Hello xdadevelopers,
I've been having a heck of a time accessing the market to get U.S. apps that I'm otherwise entitled to owning. Being outside the country doesn't allow me to download these.
I then came across:
http://www.abtevrythng.com/2010/10/how-to-download-android-apps-which-are.html
As you can read from the instructions, it states that you must hand over your Google username and password.
Humm.... Isn't that exactly what one should not do????
I have not used AppBrain myself, but it is a huge and very popular portal.
I doubt it will misuse your google credentials and i probably would have heard of something like that happening.
But i can understand your worries and it is good to ask before just entering ones passwords and account into random sites.
Lets wait for another answer, maybe from someone using appbrain, as i don't plan on signing up there .
try VPN,pls.
I don't use appbrain myself, but I know people who do. Very good app, from what I've heard.

It's pretty simple, you just need a US billing address (which can be faked ... not really recommended if you don't want to get in trouble). Details: http://android.stackexchange.com/q/7254/1465
how do you configure tor or orbot to give you a us ip? i seem to get only ones from europe..

You should get one eventually, but you could also try going into the app's settings, checking Use Bridges, and enter the IP of a US bridge. I don't know of any US bridges myself but this mat be useful: https://www.torproject.org/docs/bridges#FindingMore
And yet no one is giving a complete guide how to do it... Ok, we need Orbot, and that you go to Tor page when you don't get a slightest idea how to use it on your Android phone...

Oh, in the guide the link to Tor is purely informational, you don't even need to look at it. The Tor link I posted above is a complex way to possibly have a higher chance of being routed into the US ... that's really only for people who are ready to do the research into it. The guide on StackExchange should be enough.
If Tor is essentially a proxy - would your phone need to have iptables in order for this method to work?
Hi guys i managed to change my Amazon address to a NY one and i downloaded the appstore. But when i try to download something it says that i have to set my one click mobile payment or something like that and i have to put in a an American phone number ... is there a way to bypass that? I just want to download free apps

My kernel does not have iptables. (SE X10 Mini Pro)
While I can run orbot and connect - it doesn't tunnel any data through the connection. My IP address in any app is still the same as it was before connection to the tor network. (Including the browser check in the orbot app)
I suspect therefore that in order to tunnel apps through the tor network, your kernel does in fact need iptables.

I will have to wait patiently for AB Rio until it hits the normal market or Amazon decide on launching in the UK. (Or find it elsewhere)

Well you could try something else, like running Tor on your PC and connecting your phone to a network created by the PC. See http://android.stackexchange.com/q/549/1465
Would advice against putting in fake info. Amazon just gave me a call, and they were kinda pissed at me for using fake info. Luckily i managed to play on my young age to get out of it.
I don't understand, Amazon appstore seems to work fine for me, all it does it ask me to put in a payment method, which I'm yet to get from my dad

If you put a fake phone number, they can't call you. Don't attach fake info to your "real" account if you have one, if this concerns you. And they probably only call if your billing info is fake and they can't process your payment, so you could stick to free apps with no problem. (I don't see why they would call otherwise, there's no way they're going through every account and verifying the info manually).

It doesn't care about whether you have a payment method, or if you do where your billing address is, until you try to buy/download an app.
Yeah, stupidly enough I attached fake info to my real account. I did only download free apps though, to avoid them taking contact.
I am from Singapore and there's no need to use Tor or proxies to use the Amazon Appstore. Downloads are verified as long as there's a valid US credit card number attached to your 1-click configuration.
It makes sense because it verifies you as a US citizen. The claim that " this new market cannot be used outside of the US" is false. You're saying US citizens travelling outside of US who wants to access has to use Tor?
Amazon restricts usage only in US through identification using credit card information (and house address).

I can't really find an appropriate forum for this question, so I'll leave it here, hoping that moderators will move it to a more appropriate place if it does exists.
When I log on to Google Play some applications will not be available to me due to geographical restrictions. But in my world electrons knows no national borders. I have tried logging on through VPN (and I do find more apps that way) but Google obviously have my devices pegged down to my current country. I have even reset my device to factory, established VPN and created a new Google account through the VPN connection, in the fervent hope of getting access to some apps that I desire. Still no dice.
Is there any method that will enable me to get hold of those apps? Is there a mirrored site? Anyone that has any kind of suggestion is welcome with input, because I'm at my wits end.

you appear to be from a horribly dangerous country, so I am not sure if I should help you.... I don't know of a way to get around that type of block, but if you can get the .apk file downloaded then you can install it by tapping it in ES explorer if you have the "unknown applications" option checked in your security settings for most ICS roms.
I think Market Access or Market Enabler will do the trick.

My suspicion is that the VPN your using is based somewhere that still has restrictions in place, therefore you may well be seeing more apps yet some are still missing... maybe...
Try the suggestions above though, much less hassle....
And by the way, this is Off Topic, your question is very much on topic. You couldn't have picked a worse place to post if you had tried.
Unless your trolling us... In which case, good job. :highfive:
I couldn't find a sub-forum that dealt specific with Google Play. Can I assume that Market Enabler is available through Google Play?

That did look like the real deal, unfortunately it wouldn't let me download.
After several tries it did download.
Yes, it has potential, but there are still restrictions activated. Unless you can spoof deviceID and SON I doubt that you can access apps set up with restrictions (and I'm not talking about paid apps here), just restricted to carrier or country.

I want to create a form that has fill able fields and a place to sigh by a customer. I would like it to be modifiable when necessary and able to attach pics . I also need to be able to email it and print it. Who makes a good app to do this?
I have done searches and found a few. but their web sites suck as to showing what it will do. they just describe it, no examples. they don't even give prices. I also do not want to keep the forms in the cloud and I don't want to pay a monthly subscription to use them.
Here's an example of one for the Apple. http://www.formconnections.com/

The only I seen that mimics what you are looking for is this. I used it for photography. I am sure you can alter the documents or release type and it also lets you arttach pics and will email a pdf to you and a client. I searched it up online and used a pirated copy and bought the app immediately after trying it.

Yeah. It's only if it's purchased from Sammy's store that the issues come in. Other devices won't know you own it and you can only get updates when Sammy gives them to you. Learned the hard way about app stores other than Google's.
It may be that I am not entering the right keywords, but I can't find the answer on the forums here. It's not a big deal, but I'm curious. When I connect via VPN on 2.3.6 through L2TP ipsec, I get a warning in Gmail saying that someone from a different IP was trying to sign into my account and google prevented it. (Because suddenly a different ip address from hundreds of miles away is attempting to sign in). I don't care that it's not letting it sign in (this isn't my daily driver, I just use it as a media player basically), but the choices I get are to click " No it's not me, change password" or " yes it's me" ( which I don't really want to say either). So is there some simple solution that I am totally missing? Or do I just ignore this everytime I connect to vpn?
Thanks
The simple solution is, if it's you, tell it that it's you. Why wouldn't you want to say it's you if it is?

Point taken. I suppose my first impression is that since Google services pretty much thrives on its users data, I don't necessarily want to admit that I'm encrypting it. I mean it's obviously legal, but I somehow feel that there will be a red check mark next to my account now. Or.... Maybe I should just take off the tin foil hat.
I put this out there to see if I'd get a response from anyone else who came across the same thing in the past.

Well, if you want it to work, tell it that it's okay to work. If you don't want it to work, then you can keep telling it not to work. But if you tell it not to work and it does... that's a bug or security flaw.

True, that has been my experience as well - they are utterly useless. I do hope though that the addition of Google Assistant doesn't become the fiasco that the addition of BP/ECG and/or Samsung Pay is - it really seems like Samsung doesn't give a flying duck, sometimes...
