Anyone using a good wall charger for MT4GS?
I am having trouble finding one that has a cord of sizable length (in the 6' range). I often travel without my computer (no usb charging) and hotels often annoyingly put the outlets right in the middle of the bed and my cords don't have enough length to get to the nightstand.
I'm currently using the (overpriced) TMO branded ones, which work great but are much too short. I have a few of BestBuy's rocketfish branded ones that I used with my OG Droid that were great, but they're not working with MT4GS (too low A?).

Check Radio Shack. I got a microUSB charger for work from there that fits your description.
Just buy a longer USB->MicroUSB cable and use the stock wall wart?

This is the charger I use. I've been using it for a year and a half and it hasn't gone bad on me yet.
I picked up a cord that is like five feet long and rated at 1 amp for like ten bucks.

Went with cord and HTC wall adapter
Thanks for the replies. I did actually end up going with a 6' MediaBridge USB cable and the HTC wall adapter plug. Seems to be working fine. Would still prefer a longer cord, just wish a reputable company made one. But this setup is already an improvement.
the stock wallcharger is legit.
You mean the TMobile OEM? It is good, but way too short. The wall dongle adapter that comes with the phone is also great, I just had to find a long enough (legit) USB cable. Which I have, for the most part.
I LOVE the OEM charger for its spare USB port, which means I get two devices on one outlet, but ... ugh, just too short.
I lost my USB Power adapter today. Can I use the following for MT4GS?

Ordered a universal one with wall attachment and car attachment and when I connect the USB to microUSB cord the phone doesn't charge. Ordered another stand alone car charger and it, also, doesn't charge. If I attach the USB cord that came with the phone to the wall/car charger it charges fine. Both, specifically said for the "Nexus One". Is it an amp issue? Most microUSB charger in the mall cell phone kiosks won't charge it either. Is it a proprietary microUSB cord that I need or a matter of amps or something?
Why not buy from Monoprice.com?!
I ordered 8 USB cords (2/each of 4 different lengths), 2 Car Chargers, and 2 Wall chargers. All work perfectly fine, and I paid under $25. (Wife has a CLIQ, so we got plenty to work for both of us.)
So, I don't know what your issue is... Other than just not going to Monoprice

well I havent ordered from monoprice since customers got slammed with bogus charges... i guess i could give them another try though, but still... kinda weary
Why? I had over $1300 attempted to be spent at Newegg, and my CC company called me and stopped the charges. Got a new CC in the mail the following day. Some random amount at Apple as well. LOL. Fun times.
(Yes, it happened to me. I'm fairly confident it was from the same issue as others..) But, that doesn't stop me from using a company that makes good products, expecially when they just made such a big mistake. Odds are, it won't be happening again for a long while
Either way... Those are risks with online shopping. You just have to make sure that your method of purchase has fail-safes.
I have a CRAP load of mini USB chargers (all HTC stock) and didn't want to buy more. I bought a bunch of Motorola mini to micro adapters off Overstock.com for $2 a piece and couldn't be happier. I also bought the official Google cradle to avoid additional wear and tear on the microUSB port.
-Mc
I bought a car/home charger from eBay when I had my Motorola Cliq, and my home charger would keep going on/off charging. I later found out that it was the voltage issue, where the charger was giving a maximum of 5 amps and the Motorola Cliq needed 5.1V or something like that.
But most chargers I've bought don't power the Nexus One. What specific voltage or amps should I look for it to have? The two I bought off of eBay specifically said they were for the Nexus One. Neither worked. Sellers are putting any micro SD chargers up for sale assuming they will change the phone. They will not. What technical spec will tell me if it really will charge it?
Could someone post a link to a USB charger that absolutely works? I just bought another one from Best Buy that doesn't charge the Nexus. Made by Rocketfish and is suppose to be universal.
Thats really wierd. Every charger i've tried works fine.
You're charger should be outputting 5V and anywhere from 300mA upwards. There is no max mA limit because the phone will only draw what it needs.
This might sound patronising, and I really dont mean it to, but when you say doesnt charge how do you know?
Do you mean from totally flat it won't turn the phone on and start charging it, or do you mean when the phone is on the battery indicator doesnt show a charging, and the LED doesnt go orange/green?
Or do you mean it never charges to full?
When I plug it in it's as if nothing happens. No light, no thunderbolt symbol on the battery, no screen wake-up, nothing. Nada. Now, the HTC wall charger and usb charger work fine. But if a MicroUSB charger calls itself "universal" it does not mean it will charge the Nexus. The HTC HD2 charger my wife has works fine on the Nexus though.
Hmm strange.
The charge process works like this:
- Charger plugged in causes voltage change on +ve USB line - potential charger detected.
- Phone draws minimal current (50 to 100mA) and tries to negotiate USB power
-- If that suceeds it tries to increase power to 500mA if the USB port supports it. If yes charging starts at 500mA, if not charging starts at 100mA
- If USB negotiation fails, it checks if D+/D- are bridged.
-- If D+/D- are bridged, the phone draws as much current as it can/needs
-- If D+/D- are not bridged, the phone draws a max of 500mA
There's nothing special about the chargers unless they have been wired in some special way for a specific phone. Thats why I'm very surprised these chargers dont work.
I know that if I chop a USB extention cable and cut out D+/D-, my nexus charges at 500mA. I've tried this myself for a totally different purpose. Thats no different to ground and power being wired to a 5v source.
Odd, I have three car USB adaptors and two AC USB adaptors.. All charged the phone, although only the AC charger shipped with the Nexus would do a fast charge, and none of my car chargers would. I found one that was rated 1Ah and soldered the two middle pins, now it works as a fast charger too.
The Motorola P513 car charger (OEM designed for a Droid) gives out 950mA, is super cheap (~$3+shipping), and works great for a fast charge with the Nexus One.

Thank you sir. I've been trying to find a car charger that guarantees a fast charge.
Just ordered one from Play.com for £3.99 w/ free shipping.
Maybe now I can use GPS for more than an hour...
I dunno.
My motorola charger for my old bluetooth (H780?) works fine, as well as the original google charger. I also have a car charger for my old bluetooth as well.
My suggestion, is to only buy name brand chargers?

I am thinking about ordering this:
http://www.amazon.com/G2x-T-Mobile-..._24?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1304350783&sr=1-24
But was wondering if I should spend the money and get a LG issued micro usb and car charger.
Anyone have experience with these chargers?
Hmmm that's alot of stuff for such a cheap price. Makes me wonder the build quality of that stuff. I might stay away from that. Just my opinion though. But to answer your question, I use a micro-usb cable I got from newegg. I also use the car charger I got with my MyTouch Slide a year ago.
First thing I thought was "too good to be true" and in my experience cheap stuff brakes stuff.
Yeah I think the quality of those accessories is probably quite low. If you want a good micro-usb cable I ordered 3 of these about a year ago and still use them today and they work fine on the G2x for data transfer and charging:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_re=micro_usb_cable-_-12-189-164-_-Product
I still have my micro usb charger I used for my blackberry curve (2 yrs old). I would assume that would work. I wonder if the old wall charger would work as well.
Those chargers are pretty much worthless. You need a high amp charger. The phone comes with a 1amp or 1000mA charger. If you buy a cheap charger that's 500mA for example you take more time to charge your phone. If the charger is really weak then you might not charge at all or even drop you battery levels while connected and using your gps in your car.
Note these are Blackberry and Motorolla OEM products that will work with your G2X. I use these and they are fine. They are both under $5 each at Amazon.

I buy stuff like that all the time off amazon.com.
I buy stuff like that all the time off amazon.com.
I can tell you you get what you pay for.
I buy stuff like that for coworkers and everthing is still working fine except car chargers breaking because of rough handling of the chargers. Evething else is alive and kicking.
If you decide to get it let me know how the car charger, Charges the phone, and make sure to post pictures because some times picture are diffrent from what is posted on the web.
I personally got this charger from T-Moble (granted, it was $30), 4.8v 1A... and integrated it into my car:
Code:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/AddOns/Accessories/AccessoryDetailPopUp.aspx?accessory=f2105fae-0bb1-47f2-b53b-a8acc9e98c56&inCart=True&catCode=-1
I removed the LED since it's hardwired to the car.
Grated, if you want to move the charger from car to car it's not ideal to hard-wire it... but eh.
Be careful what you buy.
I ordered a Micro-USB cable from an Amazon vendor. It was the one in this package:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XGBBY6
Package seemed good enough. Good deal. The case was serviceable (I won't use it fulltime, but for what I paid, I wasn't expecting much-- it's good for putting my phone in for when it's in the car, sitting on the dash, so that it doesn't slide around while I get GPS maps). The car charger works pretty well. But the USB cable...
I was experiencing battery drain from my phone while it was plugged into my desktop PC's USB with the aftermarket cable.
The next day I tried it with the one that shipped with my phone from LG and it works just fine.
For reals, has anyone experienced battery drain with an aftermarket cable while it was plugged in?

Well typically USB doesn't have enough juice to power the phone while you are using it. It might in some cases but with WiFi, the screen, GPS, or whatever... you probably won't be charging the battery much if at all, and in fact might be losing power.
The same with USB chargers. The better chargers provide more power where most only provide the standard 5v (just like a desktop) so with heavy usage (GPS, screen, bluetooth) you might not gain anything.
I'm not sure about PC's because computers follow the standard of 5v and I don't think they will send more over the cable. A bad cable will have more resistance and probably not do as good of a job but overall should work.
The answer is any microUSB cable will work because it is a standard. Chargers (home and car) should provide more power to give it a faster charge.
Some Chargers are able to do "fast-charges" which I know the G2x can handle. I have a Microsoft Zune charger and it devastates my battery charge times. I'll be full in like 30min.
Typically batteries like a slow progressive charges though, which seem to last the longest. Oddly enough, I get the best battery life by charging my phone via my USB port on my Cable Box (haha).
As long as the charger's output is 5V then you're good. The higher the milliamp output on the charger the faster yourphone will charge.

My phone charges just fine when I'm using while connected to my computer via USB.
It's the amperage that counts when it comes to filling up your battery. I've used .5, .6, .8 and 1 amp wall adapter and car chargers. The 1 amp charges much faster but, if I remember my USB spec, that's all that was allowed until Apple came along PCs are typically restricted to 500 milliamps (.5 amp) so it's a little slower but still enough to charge it., even under use. I suppose if you have GPS seeking satellites and the display turned up all the way you may draw more than 500 milliamps but I'd be surprised.
EDIT: if you're really interested in this stuff, check http://batteryuniversity.com/ and https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Universal_Serial_Bus#Power

What about trying a retractable female-to-male USB extension cable to run between the wall outlet adapter and the HTC USB cable? I believe most PC and cell phone accessory stores sell them for around $5 - $10 and will extend up to around 3 - 4 additional feet. Here's a link to one that's in stock at HTC Depot...
http://www.htcdepot.com/smartphone-experts-usb-extension-cable/5A18A625.htm
Yeah...I have one.
At least that way you aren't cramming something that doesn't fit into the phone and risking damaging the USB port.
i brought a couple of micro USB cables from meritline it took 2 weeks for them to come here. it cost me $4 including shipping for 2 cables. They ship then from HK. So far I am using this cable in my office and have not has any issue
I currently use a 5' male to female USB "extension cord"... Been using it for years and highly recommend the setup.
On another note, if someone were to trip over the cord, it has an extra breakaway point now... I believe it cost me $5 for two of them... Gave the other as a gift...

So turns out I didn't ship this week... -_- Just what I've come to expect from the military lol. But on to my thread! Is it just me, or do any of you guys ever have issues with certain USB cables? My phone seems extremely picky about which ones work and whatnot. I've tried an LG one for a Sprint Optimus S, borrowed from my sister to charge and it wouldn't charge, tried an HTC from my girlfriend's Inspire, and I also tried an AT&T generic cable. The last two cables will charge, but no data will work, and I know there's nothing wrong with them because they all work with other people. So far I've only had luck with the Samsung official, and it seems as if mine has lost it's data abilities So on my quest to find a new one to purchase, I've wanted to avoid one that wouldn't work. If any of you guys have this problem with your phone being picky about cables, please let me know so I don't feel like I'm just crazy, lol.
Yes, i have had my share of problems with cables. I had one from my old Aria that i tried to use to charge one day and completely mest up my phone. My computer wouldn't recognize the phone, it wouldn't charge, etc. That was a headache. I just stick with the Samsung cables.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997
honestly ive never had issues, i just got my infuse today but its charged from several differnt cables,
Car Charger
Blackberry Charger and Cable
HTC Cable in PC (and data worked)
Ive never had issues, it seems that I have about 7 or 8 micro usb cables/chargers and from my captivate to my brand new infuse ive never experienced an issue..
I've had some issues with the orignal charging cable actually wanting to charge my phone.
Also, when plugging the phone into the computer I can't use the stock cable to do any flashing and sometimes USB doesn't work. I end up using a charging cable from my Logitech K800 keyboard and it works like a charm.
Maybe look at the cables for the K800 from Logitech, I have used it to charge via wall adapter, computer USB port, and it works for flashing. It's also longer than hell and comes with a little Velcro hoop attached to it for easy storage / transportation.
I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue, lol. I thought my phone was just crazy, haha.

I've never had a problem with any cable (BlackBerry, HTC, various Samsung) on any of my Samsung devices. Used them on Captivate, Epic and Infuse with no problems. I almost wonder if the USB port's quality is as big a factor as the cables.
My phone will charge about 55% of the time. It is the most annoying and aggravating thing I have ever encountered. Of course I can't take it back because I dropped it and shattered the screen about 2 days before my case came in the mail
Some of the AT&T cables are charging-only and won't pass data (they get lots of bad reviews for this...)
General rule:
A straight-through cable will depend on the charger to determine how the device charges. If the charger shorts D+ and D- together on its end, the phone assumes AC. If the charger uses iPad/iPhone resistors to indicate a dumb charger, the Samsung will assume USB. Not sure what happens if the charger has nothing on D+/D-.
Some of the AT&T cables short D+ and D- together in the cable - meaning they'll always charge as an AC charger but won't work for data.

If anyone is short on micro usb or in the market for one,
look for data cables instead of just a charge cable.
they're about a buck ea. on ebay
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1
I picked up about a half-dozen Blackberry branded micro USB cables off ebay for a buck a piece, shipped; they worked like a charm.
I mistakenly thought it wouldn't matter, and on a business trip to NY took my son's cable from his LG dumb-phone. I had all kinds of problems with it, so yes, I see that behavior too. It wouldn't charge unless I fully seated the cable and then removed it halfway out of the USB connector on the phone. Even then, I occasionally had problems with it.
Had the same issues. Good cables has associated "click" event when it inserted, bad ones are loose. If you look at USB connection from Samsung made cables it has significantly larges pins on bottom (probably 2x time bigger then other brands) and that's what makes a difference. This is also important in a car with a lot of vibration. I just bought specifically Samsung OEM branded microUSB cables from eBay and never had any issues after that.
FWIW... USB cables from Monoprice work just fine on my Infuse.
And I had issues charging with a cable from another Samsung phone.
My Infuse stopped being reconized by computer and at same time I realized that it wasn't charging also. It would charge on my computer but not wall or car charger. While munchin down on some wings I dropped it and it splashed into the bleu cheese dressing. The mic and charge port were crammed with cheese. I thought I cleaned it but no. I took a tooth cleaning pick (used to get food out of your teeth, has a green brush on one end) swabbed it in alcohol, the rubbing variety and gently scrubbed the contacts. Phone now charges on all chargers, computer still won't connect.
Had all sorts of issues with cords/ports. I'm convinced it has something to do with the dual sd cards. But who knows. Anyways now using a monster data cord and it works great! well as long as I only use it on one specific USB port

I'm searching for a USB Type C battery pack with the cable built in like one of these micro-usb packs :

Anyone know of any available yet? I know USB C is fairly new technology so I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't even exist yet.
And for the sake of sharing and discussing - what power accessories do you have and what's important to you? Do you always want fast-charging or is that not important?
If you already have battery packs like I do, I bought a few extra micro usb to USB c connectors to use with them.

I never actually trust the quality of the cables that come with these chargers. Something about generic cables bugs the $#!% out of me (and no, I'm not one of those who use $200 Monster HDMI cables)

I have one of those and it seems mostly fine, the only frustrating thing is that you can't charge the power bank itself from a type A to C cable, even if it is spec compliant. Mine only seems to charge from a C to C cable. This seems to be confirmed by reviewers on Amazon too.

http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=108&cp_id=10831&cs_id=1083110&p_id=14202&seq=1&format=2
Anyway, still big for what I'm looking for. I just want a "top-off" charger (maybe around 2,000 mAh), that is C compliant and will will fit in my shirt pocket together with my phone.

I've tried to order that iVolver three times from three different vendors on ebay.
All three times they get stopped at the distribution centre in the UK.
still looking for a External Type C 3A battery pack for in Australia
I just got one of these
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ode=as2&tag=xaybzc-20&linkId=4VPEX6PDGSH5FDFQ
So far it works great. I just use the cable that came with my phone. It rapid charges just fine. Also I has a port for phones that use turbo charging and all. I can charge multiple phones at a time. I love it. Plus being 20100 mAh I can charge phones all weekend without having a wall charger. Fits in my cargo shorts side pocket just fine.
Ports:
micro USB in(for charging the battery)
USB c 3A (can also use this to charge the battery)
Quick charge USB port (5v, 9v, 12v)
Ismart (2.4v)
