Nandroid wont work for you.. ..sorry Bud you're out of luck, unless you can use heimdall. On linux

Heimdall works on all platforms, its not Linux exclusive.

True. But on Linux there is no worry about drivers. I run MIUI and my windows machines won't recognize my phone with adb (I didn't install the nexus drivers). On my Linux partition (Ubuntu 11.04),adb works great. Heimdall sees my phone. Couple other programs work just fine. And not the first driver have I installed. Plus, Adam's "Am I Bricked" mod/app only works on Linux.

Ok, it may work "better" on Linux but perhaps the op doesn't have access/knowledge of Linux, just letting him/her know that it is still an option on windows....or even mac.

I get that message all the time. If switching to different USB ports don't work, see if you have the same issue on a different computer.

Tried if on 3 computers and two cables. So linux ? what version do you recommend? I am new to that but i can deal with develpomet

Ok go to Ubuntu.com and download Wubi.
Then execute the program and follow the steps. Once done reboot and select Ubuntu. If it doesn't boot all the way, turn off by holding power button until it does so. Then turn back on and if you see anything mentioning hitting the escape key for more options, then do it. Then hit enter and you are now running Ubuntu.
To flash something, I reccomend using the KH3 Heimdall one click( in development section. READ BEFORE DOING IT THOUGH. and if the flashing suite doesn't see your phone, then open terminal and type
sudo apt-get install libusb-1.0
Enter.
Reboot and see if it works then.

[Q] Switching to Ubuntu

So I'm thinking about switching to Ubuntu completely from Windows 7.
Will Odin3 One-Click and Galaxy S One-Click Root/Unroot work in Ubuntu if I use Wine, or should I set up a Windows VM in Ubuntu?
Once again, thanks in advance!
I would just use heimdall.
Thanks! I'm definitely going to give it a try!
Yea I use ubuntu only and I use heimdall. It works great. If you are using a 32 bit version of ubuntu, you will have to compile heimdall yourself to make it work. The creator has step by step instructions how to do that inside of the source folder you will have to download. It is very easy to do.

usb still not working

had anyone having problems connecting their phones to their pcs ever find a fix?
my phone still won't get recognized by my laptop. not to sure why. it hasn't been able to recognize it since i flashed to gb. my wife has the same phone stock and the laptop sees hers fine.
things I've tried:
reinstall drivers
restarts
kies
different rom
different laptop
different cables
download mode
factory resets
debug mode and ask on connection
deleting the usbs from device manager
like i say my wifes phone can get recognized by my laptop. i think the bootloaders for gb has something to do with this problem but that's just me thinking.
i get an unknown device error in device manager. also when i was installing the drivers and
hooked up the phone it seemed to fail on CSc and adb our something can't really remember

Your computer sees your device it just doesn't know what it is. I thinks this is because Odin jacked up your device drivers. many people have this issue and can resolve it by reinstalling the drivers combined with a different version of Odin. Did I mention Odin is unstable? Lol.

[MOD] LAG FREE g2X + dalvik fix

So far for the past two months or so we have been having the wonderful devs build some pretty awesome ICS Roms. I have been lucky enough with the rest of those on the g2x threads to benefit from Owains awesome ICS builds especially the latest linaro build. Now the one issue with ICS lately is the memory leaks and the lag that slows the phone down to a crawl. The lag on my phone especially got me looking through the internet and doing research on why it could be happening. I first found out that the implementation of Zram on ICS did not work correctly with our devices. This around the time I decided to disable the Zram on the ICS build from OWAin which at first when disabled it worked a little while but then it would start to slow down again. This is when I started messing with the build.prop and started messing around with the dalvik dexopt flags. I could probably go on and on but i will cut it short here. Now I am proud to present to you the lag free -dalvik fix. I obtained the following script with permission from batoo and his thread from the ATP forums. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721799
. The dalvik dexopt flag change were found through research of android and the internet. Below is the procedure to get some serious butter melted from our G2x along with a smooth ride. There are two files you need: 1.modified build.prop or do manual fix 2.tune.sh script (script manager recommended)
NANDROID-BACK UP- YOU HAVE WARNED
Step 1: Download lagfree.zip below
Step 2: Extract to sdcard or internal storage
Step 3: assuming your using a rooted file browser. back up your current build.prop
Step 4: place the extracted build.prop in system folder and set permissions to RW-R-R
Step 5: reboot into reocvery and wipe dalvik cache
Step 6: reboot, dalvik cache will rebuild
Step 7: use Script manager or whatever app and run the tune.sh make sure you run with SU permissions. Reboot will disable script, run at every boot or set it with script manager
Step 6: Enjoy the buttery smooth g2x
-Manual Mode --
Open build.prop and add the following
change dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y TO
dalvik.vm.dexopt-flags=m=y,v=n,o=v,u=n
right below add
dalvik.vm.execution-mode=int:jit
then change windowsmgr.max_events_per_sec = 300
comment out with #
dalvik.vm.heapgrowthlimit
then save
then goto step 5 above.
Please provide feedback nd enjoy....
now im off to get drunk...

USB debugging & download mode not working

I have an infuse on uclb3 and I decided to flash aokp. I downloaded the rooted heimdall package and my phone wont show up in download mode.
So I decided to root on PC but USB debugging wont show up at all. Any ideas?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
So you are in ulcb3 stock without root or cwm right?
You made sure your phone was entering download mode when trying to use heimdall?
Edit: in settings > applications> development there should be an option to toggle usb debugging on or off
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I know both of those but the adb icon in the top doesn't show up and download mode doesn't show up in Odin or heimdall
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Sorry I'm not quite understanding you :/
An adb icon where exactly?
For odin or heimdall to detect your phone you must first place it in download mode by:
-Remove battery and put it back.
-While holding vol up and down, connect your device to the Pc
If it still does not recognize your device then it could be the drivers
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I got drivers installed and I can connect and transfer files just debug/download modes don't work or something
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
There SHOULD be an adb icon in status bar when USB debugging is enabled there's none on mine
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Okay, so you say you are trying to root your device.. using superoneclick?
You made sure you have usb debugging on? Does the program return any error?
Please I need you to be as detailed as possible to be able to tell what is happening and to be able to give you better assistance.
Edit: agreed, if it is on it should appear right next to the "usb connected" when your phone is connected to a Pc. You double checked it is switched On in settings?
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I'm not using super one click just adb for temp root usb connected woeks
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
May I ask why you want temp root instead of fully rooting it?
To obtain temp root through adb is a bit complicated and it requires using a series of commands to push our phones exploit and run it from within.

[Q] Help a n00b with flashing. :(

First of all, hello! And yes, I'm a n00blet.
I have an AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G that I unlocked and rooted a couple years ago. I have never flashed a ROM to it. My sister borrowed it for about a year and used it. She has returned it to me, and I'm going to put it on Straight Talk (since it is already unlocked, and ICBF to flash my Sprint phone to Straight Talk).
With some tooling around, I decided to try and flash the Avatar ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174227&page=46). Of course, like an imbecile, I decided to try and do this at 1am last night.
I've installed the ClockworkMod app, and everything is fine on the surface. When I try to flash the ZIP of the Avatar ROM, it goes to Recovery like it should, but nothing happens. I feel like I am missing something stupid and will have a huge "DUH" moment when I figure it out.
I am trying to do this off of the internal SD (since the Infuse has the phone memory, internal SD, then optional external SD). From all I have read, this should be possible?
My tech level with computers is through the roof, but my Android tech level is still very elementary.
Here is a picture of my recovery after I have asked Clockwork to flash Avatar.

if you are on froyo stock first you have to update your phone to gingerbread 2.3.6 here u will find all you need to do that read the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613523 the option C is rooted with CWM recovery and get the gingerbread bootloaders
After that you need to flash the entropy cm9 (ics) located in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601844 this requires a doubleflash.
And finally you can flash the jellybean rom you want (avatar) this also require a doubleflash and don't forget to flash the gapps.
