[Q] Switching to Ubuntu - Captivate General

So I'm thinking about switching to Ubuntu completely from Windows 7.
Will Odin3 One-Click and Galaxy S One-Click Root/Unroot work in Ubuntu if I use Wine, or should I set up a Windows VM in Ubuntu?
Once again, thanks in advance!

I would just use heimdall.

Thanks! I'm definitely going to give it a try!

Yea I use ubuntu only and I use heimdall. It works great. If you are using a 32 bit version of ubuntu, you will have to compile heimdall yourself to make it work. The creator has step by step instructions how to do that inside of the source folder you will have to download. It is very easy to do.

If I switch to ubuntu, what is the best music and podcast manager?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

Switching to open source programs and OS's is inevitable. Please stop supporting the evil companies as M$ and App£e. Thanks for the heimdall suggestion I never heard of it before.

Although unrelated to this thread, but the answer would be Rythmbox first followed by Banshee
I personally use VLC.

[Q] [Help] NVFlash on Mac?

I've been searching google to see if there was a NVFlash link and have been coming up short. Does anyone know how to Flash this on a Mac?
Nope, you gotta install boot camp and dual boot into Windows, or install VMware Fusion and run Windows as a virtual machine, or find someone with a PC. That's about all your options.
use rom manager
use rom manager from the market. g2x is now on the list and you can get clockwork recovery from that.

The first step comes from googling the topic: how to make custom rom.
have you tried this yet?
there are several hits from google, including youtube vids.
You can also read the older threads in the dev section.
You can also hang out in chat rooms and irc...you're more likely to get more help there.

I have looked at Google and you tube but all I found was for Linux or Mac OS and I haven't seen any older posts that helped

have you broken down a rom yet?
Working on it now actually

You have to build in Linux since android is a Unix based system. You can tear apart a stock, or leaked rom in windows and mod it, and/or theme it. But, to straight build a rom, HAS to be done in Linux, ie(Linux mint, Ubuntu) .

Usually, eclipse is used in developing android apps but other IDE can be used as well(with the installation of the appropriate plugins).
You can follow the following link to setup everything and make a simple app: http://developer.android.com/training/basics/firstapp/index.html
The app can be tested on an emulator or on a real device
SDK
As per the site given, you will have to install the Android SDK, and get at least one firmware for an app to work. then the guide will go through creating and testing your first app using cmd or eclipse(classic version 4.0 should work), with android development tools installed. happy creating!

You could do what a lot of others have done and mount a img and chroot into it. while it's not booting into ubuntu you can do most of what you want. I know in the nook color forums(might be a few pages back) there should be a example that should work on our phones.
Its possible but I doubt there's any development on our phones. I know the Asus transformer tf101 has a few projects going on

[Q] Mac Os for flashing back to stock

Dear all,
I am now on a MTD rom, and I need to go back to a BML. I'm assuming that to do that I need to either use Heimdal 1-click or the gremlin remover. Since my mother's pc has proven to give issues with its usb connection, while my mac seems way more reliable, I was wondering if there's a stock I could flash with Mac.
Thanks!
The heimdall one click works with Mac.
