Is the anyway that someone knows of on how to stop autodating from the market for SU? I had 3.05 installed but uninstalled and installed the SU 3.02.apk and for the moment, no problems... I have removed 3.05 over the week end and went to the market and unticked the "allow automatic updatiny"... double checked twice to make sure it was not checked and somewhere between then and this morning it updated automatically anyway. I keep all of my apps updated, but this is one that I don't want updated until and newer version or the bugs are removed from this one. Question: can anyone tell me how to stop SU 3.05 from updating even though "allow automatic updating" in NOT checked? Thanks!
I had the same thing happen. I am positive I unchecked it, restarted rechecked it, the auto update was still unchecked. Then it decided to do the update anyways.. I found that odd. I just uninstalled the updates again to make sure I don't end up with the Force Close issue again. Auto updates is unchecked again, see what happens...
Download an older, working copy to your SD card. Uninstall 'su' from the Market. Now, install the copy from your SD card. There will be no link to the Market this way and therefore no auto-updating.

I want to protect myself from this issue. How would I download an older working copy and how do I install it from my sdcard?

The first install of SU on my phone was through a downloaded zip and installed while in recovery, when I did revolution. It automatically linked itself to the market somehow. My auto update is still unchecked so all is good for now. Not sure how it linked itself, and auto updated.
My copy of "su" was also installed similarly, via recovery (following revolutionary.io's instructions). I see no indication that it is linked to the Market though. When I look at "My Apps" in the Market, it's not listed.
My version is "Superuser v3.0-beta3 (33)".
Mine also installed through revo but it is listed under my apps - in fact it is listed as wanting an update.
If you have Titaniumbackup Pro you could try severing the market link that way.
How specifically?
After auto updating last week to SU 3.05 was nothing but a pain with all the fc's... So I followed the suggestions of another member of this forum and uninstalled the update. D/led SU 3.02 and placed it on my SDcard and installed com.noshufou.android.su-3.02.apk on 10/17/11... Worked great for almost 2 completed days. Not 1 FC's... "Allow automatic updating" was NOT checked. Re-booted and checked again, NOT checked... About 30 minutes ago I pulled down the "notification bar" and SU along with 3 other apps had been "Successfully updated"? How in the **** did that happen. This **** is getting old... After uninstalling the auto updated 3.05 and manually installing the 3.02.apk file, and without a doubt in my mind that "allow automatic updating" for SU was NOT checked. What is allowing the SU 3.05 (FC City) to update from the market? I might add that whenever I uninstalled the 3.05 update I was left with SU 2.3.6.3 at that point I used Root Explorer to install the 3.02.apk, ran ROM Manager "fix permissions" and for several days the market didn't auto update and my system ran fine. Unchecked "allow automatic update" for SU it was pushed to my phone and now I'm back to square one. Why the **** is android market ignoring this and pushing the SU update anyway? Is there any way that anyone knows of to stop or prevent SU 3.05 update from being pushed to my phone without my permission? Thanks!

Once you have achieved root (see other thread), to update the Superuser.apk to the latest version, run these commands:
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
pm uninstall com.noshufou.android.su
Then search on the market for Superuser and download the one by ChainsDD. Confirmed working on latest Droid2 2.2 ota.
EDIT: To be safe, go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications and find Superuser. Then clear the data. This should prevent any of the Superuser issues discussed.
sorry..new to the whole android scene. are there any advantages to updating the superuser app the the latest version and can this command be input on the droid itself through the terminal app?

i like the interface much more and its got a new autoaccept after 10 seconds if you arent paying attention when the popup shows. it's up to you. i'm sure future root tools will just include it.
alright thanks. is it as simple as installing the new version and uninstalling the old? or does one need to enter the command prompts listed above?

that is what the commands do. unfortuantely, the old version is on the system partiton. this means that we must first mount the system and read/write and then manually delete the old version ourself. then the new version can be easily downloaded through the market. anyways, adb shell means it's done via your computer so its very easy to copy and paste like 3 commands.
Instructions work perfectly... thanks!

These instructions are not specific to the OS on your computer, they work with anything.
Perfect!
Worked great! Thank you!
Instructions worked fine (I just made them up for Linux), but the newest SuperUser is giving me weird results. Every program that requests root access will ask me numerous times, like it never remembers that I gave the app access. Like removing one app with titanium will it will ask me 4 seperate times to accept or deny permission. Other apps do this also. Anyone have a copy of the old apk I could reinstall? Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks

I had the same thing happen to me. Launch the new superuser app and go to settings. Unselect and reselect Notifications. Apparently it shows it being checked, but you have to recheck it for the actual setting to get saved.
After I did this, it only asks once for a program, and then I never see it again.

Nice, thanks!
I had that issue too. I ironically un-installed superuser and re-installed it and it worked fine too
I used Root Explorer to delete the old Superuser.apk from /system/app. Then I rebooted and installed the new version from the market. Worked great.

that works too though without having the superuser apk and rebooting, that could be a little dangerous for others hence my adb tutorial. no need for a restart either. could easily just use root explorer, delete the old, download new from market.
Worked great
I just renamed Superuser.apk to .bak then tried to install. Don't forget the last step. I had to adb (I was using terminal emulator) to do the last step then installed fine and removed Superuser.bak.
Thanks I like the New look.
yeah i can't get superuser from the market to install, keeps telling me unsuccessful

I had the same problem. I rebooted my phone and then it installed fine. Not sure if it's risky to reboot once you remove the apk or not. However, it didn't cause any problems for me.

I basically did the same thing except I renamed instead of deleting it. Well, once I installed SU from the market, I can't find the .apk file even though it's running and launching correctly. I assumed it would be called superuser.apk in the system/app folder but only my old renamed superuser.bak is there. I'm just worried if there is an update in the future, I won't be able to rename since I can't find the .apk file. Anyone know where the .apk file is for this new version of superuser?

Tried this, and it didn't work for me. With Titanium Backup in particular, it will literally ask upwards of twenty times for permission. It's insanely annoying. Any other tips?

Hi everyone,
My problem began last week when I updated from the Market the latest version of SU. I tried several suggestions from other people as far as uninstalling the update that worked, but still had force close from SU. Did not know how to uninstall the biraries associated with this app. Luckily for me I had a backup of my system fromJuly of this year and had to resort to using that in order to fix all the force closes generated by SU 3.05. After restoring backup using ROM Manager from that date to the older, but more stable SU (2.3) I think, I had to d/l all updates again fro my apps (time consuming). I went to the Market and unchecked (allow autmatic updating) for SU, needless to say it updated regardless. Also, since it went ahead and updated on it's own and a message was in my notication bar saying (SU binaries out of date) I manually updated them also. Force close city... I did not have this with SU 2.3, but now, nothing but. ROM Manager, Root Explorer, ShootMe etc... I went to settings/applications/manage applications/all/and selected SU and clicked on the command button to remove all updates for this app, rebooted, went back to the same path and clicked on clear cache, rebooted again only to maintain the same problem with force closes. Note I was going to create a current backup of my system today but SU updated before I got that change. Does or is anyone else having the same problem with the new SU and if so, how did you fix it... How do you remove the SU binaries? Any help resolving this issue would greatly be appreciated... Thanks in advance~

I am having the same problems with the SU updates; causing me problems with other apps, such as SetCPU and Busybox.
I had to flash to an older recovery and everything works fine, until updates are requested.
I dont know what else to do other then flashing back to a previous recovery.

Clear app data, uninstall, install 3.0.2 from link above ( or anywhere else you want to download it from)
Worked like a charm for me.
Auto updating for SU
After restoring to a previous date prior to the SU market update. I manually updated all of my apps for the exception of SU. I'd say about 30 or so minutes of d/ling and installing. I did the manual install specific to NOT installing SU and UNCHECKED the "Allow Automatic Update" for this app, rebooted and went back to the Market and double checked that the auto update for this was unchecked, still during the night it updated away? I just finished running ROM Manager "Fix Permissions" rebooted and still have the same problem. I can always go back and do a system restore /w RM and update all of my apps, but even with the auto update unchecked, it will re-install the update. Also, tried SU Update Fixer, no good. Says "No problems detected"... Beats me?
Thanks Namtaru... I installed the 3.02 apk file and so far no problems. Do you know how to stop this file from updating to the 3.05 version? I had "allow automatic updating" at the markert unchecked earlier, but someway, it updated anyhow...
I had the same problem. I uninstalled, installed fixed permissions in recovery and finally I cleared data on everything that used su including su that seemed to fix it I hope hadn't fc since
---------- Post added at 02:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 AM ----------
Sorry for the confusion. I am still using the 3.0.5 version. The clearing of the data on everything that uses su including su is what did the trick for me
Thanks for the reply donaldanttila... Right now I am good using 3.02... I'll definitely keep this in mind should I need to update to 3.05 or it updates for me...
It is clear data not cache. You are welcome
Yup, that's right, l8r...
Im not sure why, but Im not getting prompted for apps that require superuser permissions. I have to go into the superuser app, close it, and then sometimes it works. I used sparkyroot while at .17, then backed up root with voodoo, then installed .26. Anyone else having issues with superuser?
Nope I rooted and it pops up fine. Maybe Clear Data on Superuser?
I had the issue right after I first rooted. a reboot fixed it.
Are you trying to get it to prompt each and every time a particular app requests root so you know what's going on?
If so, open superuser, find the app using root and delete it. What worked for me is to next reboot device. The next time this app requests root, make sure you don't allow it to remember your choice. It should then prompt each and every time thereafter.
No, I was trying to get the prompt to come up on new apps so I could access root functions. I used an app that installs busybox and that fixed it.
I know there's a dedicated SuperSU thread but being a newbie on this forum I cannot post there.
I have Teclast P78HD tablet (A31 and Android 4.4.2) which I have rooted using Kingo. There is no custom recovery available for this model, AFAIK, so zip option is out of question I think. Kingo installed SuperSU 1.9.1 which does work, but as Play offered an update I accepted it, got 2.0.1. A big mistake.
The system still works, it prompts to grant root access when an app needs it. But I cannot run the SuperSU app anymore, it asks if I want to update. If I select yes after a while it fails and tells to reboot and try again. Which of course gives the same result. Selecting cancel closes the program. Uninstalling the update returns the system back to working 1.9.1. I have tried also Settings / Cleanup / Reinstall and Settings / Cleanup / Switch superuser app but both fail similarily. I also tried to replace the APK in /system/app using ES File Explorer but this method also makes an app to ask for update.
Any ideas how to update SuperSU on this tablet? Maybe I should just forget the problem and use the current one, but it is somewhat old and the changelog lists many, many changes. Plus Play keeps offering an update which is somewhat annoying

uninstall supersu and try this one. some people have issues with supersu and have found superuser to work correctly.
This is downloading on my device? Is this going to brick it?
No it's fine. Lots of us received that update the days. I don't see anything new but the performance after the update seems very good.

Why would you think it would brick your device?
Did any of the previous updates brick it?
I know the number looks strange - it really should be 5.6.... not 5.3, but that's a mistake on Amazon's end as the "Learn more" link to the User Guide has the correct number.
OP had probably downgraded his tablet to a earlier version of FireOS like I did and installed the play store and nova launcher. I havent used it in a few days but when i got it out today, it said it downloaded and installed 5.3.6.4 on 11/11/18 at 1:16am... which is weird because I had previously used this guide to downgrade to 5.4.0.0 ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/help/fire-7-2017-7th-gen-downgrade-debloat-t3699937 ) and this "update" seems to have downgraded it even further. But nothing has changed except the version number. Lockscreen ads and all the bloat is still gone and nova is still my launcher, so having the update message appear is very head scratching...
BTW, i did the downgrade to 5.4.0.0 MONTHS ago, and have never seen an update message until today. In fact, if I went into the Device Options and selected System Update, it wouldn't allow me into the setting...it would just kick me back to the home screen. Now it DOES allow me into the setting. Very strange.
5.3.6.4 Update remove root?....
After receiving the 5.3.6.4 update on my HD 10 (11/15/18) -
Lock Screen Ads re-appeared on reboot
Titanium Backup - "no longer finds root" (and in turn, no longer works)
SuperSu - No longer works
Nova Launcher remains in-place oddly enough
I have since theoritically (read on) uninstalled all apps mentioned above and re-rooted via kingoroot and can access a root prompt via ADB (id reflects uid=0(root) gid=0(root) context=u:r:init:s0), however I have been unable to update the binaries for SuperSU despite multiple re-installs and reboots (I'm running the previously working v2.79 btw). Additionally, when I now run a fresh install of Titanium BackUp, all I get is an ongoing "Detecting SU & Busybox..." message onscreeen that leads to no where (I just re-installed BusyBox prior) AND when I run Root Checker, it relects no root as well, despite both kingoroot reflecting root within it's app and my ability to run su via an adb shell on my PC., though please also note that I am unable to run su via a shell/terminal emulater installed on the device ("su: not found").
Thoughts?....thanks in advance for the assist.
Peace.
