Yesterday I flashed the Sensation Revolution XE ROM 3.6.2 and the recommended radio. Today my GPS is really screwed up. It is taking about 15 minutes to make a connection. The phone will very quickly pick up 9 or 10 satellites but will not connect. I installed the Faster Fix app and that seems to help pick up the satellites faster, but still no connection for 15 to 20 minutes. Anyone else with this problem and is there anything I can do short of going back to the stock ROM?

Do you know what ril you have with that recommended radio? I have heard that the radio and ril's need to correspond to work efficiently. Also keep in mind that kernel's also have a factor as well.
My hunch is that it's the kernel that the rom is using.
The kernel version is 2.6.35.14-sensation-faux 123-v0.2.1+.
I just discovered the MD5 checksum from the file on the download site and the file on my computer do not match. What can I do about that and how can that happen?
Sorry they do match - I was checking the zip file not radio.img
I know for a fact that faux kernels do not play well with the gps.conf files (well for me anyway, Im on tmous). Have you tried other kernels or even reverted to stock kernel. Reboot and try to get a lock.
I use gps status app to see if I can get locks and works for me.

I can get a lock, but it takes a very long time - maybe 15 - 20 minutes. I would like to go back to the stock kernel and downloaded the file to my PC, but the instructions for flashing are very vague to me:
How to use:
1. Download kernel package
2. Flash in recovery
3. Done!
4. You can adjust OC settings using Daemon Controller application (find it in your app drawer)
1. should the package be downloaded to the PC or the phone? And should it be extracted?
2. How exactly does one "Flash in recovery"

Flashing a kernel is very much like flashing your rom. Just download the kernel, which would be a zip file. DO NOT extract it. Then put the zip file on your SD card. Keep a current copy of the faux kernel to rever to it or have a nandroid handy before flashing anything!
Go to recovery, clear cache partition AND dalvik cache (under advance). Don't worry your apps and settings won't get erased. Then after those two steps, go to install from zip from sd card.
Choose the kernel and flash from there. Once the script has completed installing, just reboot the phone.
Try out your phone to ensure you can use it first off. Then if it looks, feels ok, then try out the gps in an open area with a direct line to the sky. Let me know if it helps!
FYI: for what it's worth, I don't mess with overclocking at this point. Just a personal preference.
This is not looking good. After flashing the kernel the phone will not boot up. It has a white screen with htc letters on it and it's been like that for several minutes now.
What do I do now?

Some times the boot screen shows for a while when installing a new kernel and after clearing the caches. Is it boot looping? If not then, go back to your pc, bring up a dos window. type in adb reboot recovery. That should bring you up to clockwork recovery. And revert back to the prior kernel or just flash the rom over with just a cache wipe and dalvik cache.
If the dos screen doesn't recognize the phone, simply take the battery out, put it back in and hold the power and volume down button at the same time. That brings you into recovery as well.
OK, I'm back in business. I reinstalled the ROM and the phone booted up. Now about that kernel. Should I just try again or is there a plan B?

Hi, stev32k
I was having the same problem with you initially when using ARHD 3.6.2. I tried many methods including your mentioned faster fix app but to no avail. Even modifying the gps.conf file did not help. Later on i went to flash radio and kernel but that did not change anything.
After searching all around, I found out the solution to my problem by accident. As some of my Apps were having FC's with superuser, i decided to uninstall the superuser updates and revert back to the old version. Coincidentally, after the uninstall of the updates, my GPS lock on timing became super fast and within 20 seconds a lock.
I thus came to the conclusion that somehow, superuser version 3.0.5 causes some GPS locking problem. Perhaps you might want to try to remove this update too and see how it goes?
Let me know if this solves your problem too.

I am also having problems with superuser. It seems to be the update because when I uninstall the update it quits force closing every time it's called on. Someone mentioned going to a version 2.?, but I can't any of the earlier versions. I would be grateful if you could post a link to one of the older versions.
I have not tried GPS since uninstalling the update, but will give it a try later and let you know if it helped.

Yes, I got the file from the place you linked to and I am up to replacing the GPS config file. Will give that a shot shortly.
I think I can confirm thunderskain's problem with the GPS / superuser interference.
I uninstalled the superuser update, turned on GPS, then started GPS status. It found 6 satellites and got a lock in 19 seconds while inside. I repeated turning GPS off and on and call up GPS status 5 times without the superuser update and the lock times were never more than 19 seconds and a couple were under 10 seconds. The average was 10 seconds, the high was 19, the low was 5.
Next I rebooted, opened up root explorer and it got superuser permission. Then I repeated the GPS on/off and calling up GPS status 5 times. The lock times ranged from 81 seconds to 11 seconds. The average was 45 seconds.
Next I tried to remove and allow superuser permissions until superuser started giving the force close errors then repeated the same testing procedure of turning GPS on and off and measuring lock times. For 5 repeats the average was 65 seconds the high was 97 and the low was 29 seconds.
The final test was to remove the superuser update, reboot the phone and repeat the testing procedure again. This time the average of 5 tries was 12 seconds, the high was 23, and the low 4.
As a result of this I am convinced the Superuser app is interfering with the GPS function. I cannot explain why the lock times were in the 15 minute range yesterday and the longest today was in the 90 second range. That's a big difference so something else was going on yesterday that is not happening today.

Are you rooted? If so what modifications have you done?
Have you uninstalled any of the stock bloatware, even if it was uninstallable without root? The update requires all bloatware to be installed.

Seriously people, search before you post!! We have covered this at least 10 times!Anyways, If you have deleted any of the AT&T bloatware the update will fail. It is STRONGLY recommend that you flash the fkz's to get back to stock before you apply the update, especially if you have rooted and performed any mods. Just be sure to re-root and apply the 4ever root mod to keep root over the OTA.
Or just wait for lfaber to make something awesome with it!
Thanks, I just now stumbled on the other thread's also saying the same thing my bad. And also another question why is the bloatware so important?

It's not that it's important... it's that the update file is filled with a bunch of patches, some of which are for the bloatware, and so if the bloatware isn't there the patches don't install and the update won't begin (it checks everything at first.)
Oh ok thanks
It's not working for me too . I removed alot of the bloatware yes any solution beside restoring fxz ?

Sadly not...
you can just wait for custom ROMs to be based off of 2.3.6 and flash them... this update really isn't very major.
How can I tell if it's even trying to update. I manually started the update about 4 hours ago, but it doesn't look like anything is downloading. When I click on system update again, it says an update is currently being downloaded, but according to 3G watchdog, my wi-fi usage isn't changing. If I turn off wi-fi, it says the download will resume when wi-fi is back on, but the percentage is at 0%, and when I turn wi-fi back on, it stays at 0%.
If it's going to error out, does it not say something? I'm not getting any indication that it failed. Is there not a progress bar in notifications or anything? At first, I figured the server was just busy, but after 4 hours, something should have downloaded by now, right?

A reboot can't hurt.
Ok i had issues upgrading to 2.3.6 tonight.. I realized i had stupidly uninstalled YahooContacts.apk and FMRadioService.apk... As we know Titanium can't restore these. However what I did do was this:
open /cache/recover/last_log in a text viewer
scroll to the bottom, it will tell you what is causing the installer to fail.
Mine i could clearly see it couldn't find FMRadioService.apk I took the .gz file from the titanium backup directory, un-gzipped it, renamed the .apk to FMRadioService.apk and placed it in /system/app I then re-tried the update, it failed again, repeated with YahooContacts.apk
and viola... all was well..
-t
I tried that. The progress bar that was stuck at 0% went away after reboot, but it's still not downloading anything, as far as I can tell. That's why I was wondering if there is any kind of progress bar normally.
I'm thinking that, since I'm at work, our wi-fi is blocking it. I can't get it to download over 3G, so I guess I'll wait until the morning, when I'm home.
BTW, if your phone dies ("Battery Low - Cannot program" message) while trying a rollback to 2.3.5 try the following procedure. It's risky but I was able to bring my Atrix 2 to live:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892026
So today CM 7.2 RC1 was released for all supported devices. Here are some links
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyan...rc1-is-upon-us
http://get.cm/?device=speedy
So I wiped my device clean and flashed the zip, and after booting up successfully (shows the screen that says "Touch the Android to begin") it just reboots on its own, and the process repeats. I double checked that the md5 was clean, and I tried wiping and flashing several times with the same results. Is this happening to anyone else?
Same for me here.
Probly a stupid question but if I'm going from 7.1 to 7.2 do I NEED to do a full wipe? Can't I just wipe dalvik, cache and flash?

Usually you could but had risk of error, with me, it just made the reboots happen at 5 minutes intervals instead of 10.
Not sure if this is coincidence or not, but after about 5-6 reboots, I skipped the sign in, then quickly turned off the GPS. The phone stopped rebooting, even after turning the GPS back on. I have no clue what fixed this, but it has stopped rebooting now.

I see, I'm thinking the reboot issue has to do with the kernel. Try a different kernel and that should fix it.

Since this discussion is going in two threads, I will let everyone know that using one of Sparksco's kernel ports fixes the reboot issue.
Edit: Though the kernel ports fix the GPS reboot, they take away all audio.

Agreed. I have tried just about every kernel I can get my hands on. The ones that boot have no audio, the rest simply don't boot or bootloop or reboot after a moment or two (haven't tried the default kernel and turning GPS off/on yet).
I fail to understand how they let 7.2 out for the Shift when it isn't booting up reliably for the majority of users. At what point did it become safe to say it is a Release Candidate? I'm beginning to think it more a Return To Your Previous ROM Candidate.
[edit]
I just flashed back the default kernel with GPS disabled and it booted without issue. Enabled GPS after boot and it works without reboot. Rebooting phone with GPS enabled still results in bootlooping, tho.
So, here's my proposed solution to those still having problems, want audio, and can live without GPS being enabled all the time (since no audio also means no call audio, this should be the majority of you):
1. Flash the 7.2 zip.
2. Immediately flash pershoot kernel (the ones that boot without audio, like v14 port).
3. Boot and immediately disable GPS.
4. Reboot into recovery and reflash the 7.2 zip. (NO NEED TO WIPE ANYTHING BUT DALVIK CACHE, for those who are already setup on 7.2 or coming from 7.1)
5. Boot normally.
NOTES:
A. If you attempt to boot or reboot with GPS enabled, you will get caught in a bootloop again. Simply follow the steps above again to turn it back off.
B. You CAN turn GPS on after boot and use it without issue. But you MUST disable before powering off or rebooting, else you'll have to do the above steps again.
C. Even if you can live without audio, I advise AGAINST using the pershoot ports on 7.2 for daily use. Something is causing that kernel to drain battery at about 3-5 times the normal rate (may have to do with the audio issue), regardless of CPU speed.
Hope this helps until this gets officially fixed somehow.
[/edit]
yes I have tried almost everything, like flashing custom roms or stock ruu almost everyday with different variations. flashing kernels, tweeks, so on and so on.
It works somehow and it disconnect itself after a while or totally stucks in "wireless is turning on". After it get online it makes couple of reboots and it gives "wireless is turning on" error again. I can use the phone for days but wireless never gets on.
The funny point is when wireless on and screen is locked and screen is off. When I attempt to click screen lock button, sometimes it never gives light but I can see that The screen is on and I can move the ring and do whatever i want but it is very hard to see actually. I have to put on light on to see the pictures but it doesnt happen when wifi is off or gives error.
and another funny point is I can swipe down upper bar when screen is locked. I can do bypass.
What the hell is going on my phone? no idea really

Hi,
Have a look at THIS THREAD
Particularly # 3 and Extra 1
I have this problem as well...whatever I do, I can't get wifi to work anymore...I reflashed firmware, tried several different roms, I followed the guide in the aforementioned post...nothing helps...it always says "Error" after some time.
Is there anybody who knows what to do?
Struggled with same problem for months...gave up
I had the same problem with my wi-fi and bluetooth. Both would get stuck on "turning on" mode and never come on. Everything else worked fine. I too flashed ROMS, Kernels, RUU's etc. to no avail. SO I GAVE UP. After 2 months without wifi i couldn't anymore so i called HTC, they asked for my S/N and IMEI and confirmed I was still under warranty, so I un-rooted, went back to S-ON, flashed the newest official T-Mobile RUU and shipped the phone away. I called today and they said the MOTHERBOARD was being replaced and I should have it back this week! Woot-Woot! Try giving HTC a call...worst thing that happens is they say NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY...but you won't find out till you give em a call...*shrug.
I have the same problem with the lock screen and wifi. Except for me the wifi is always on "Error". It doesn't say anything else it just says error. It started happening after a system update failed to install. An update would come up and reboot my phone to try and install it. So it would start up ext4 recovery and ext4 would do some stuff and then reboot again. After boot I was asked again if I wanted to install the update. I repeated this process a couple of times before deciding I had enough and deleted the update.
Wifi has been on Error ever since. Everything else works fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm on a HTC Sensation XE stock rom but HTC Dev unlocked and perm rooted.

Hi buddy.. I was having the same problem as you with the wifi error. Also my phone was restarting by itself. what I did was that I removed the SD card and left the phone without it. It worked for me. After that my wifi was working perfectly and no more restarts. I had a 8GB SD Card before, maybe with this new update this 8GB SDcard was too heavy for the phone. I running a 2GB SDcard now with no problems. Please let me know if it worked to you as well.. Good luck!!

I tried this, but it did not work. I'm not sure if my problem is a hardware failure or a software problem. 3 weeks after I got this phone, it got water damaged. Full of water! I took out the battery, letted it dry for some hours and turned it on. Everything worked! Only thing to see from the water, was the spot, that shows if it have got water, was 3/4 red. Everyting went good within a month or so. Then in feburary/march it stopped working (wifi). The same thing for Bluetooth. It's just writing "turns on" wifi or the bluetooth, and after 5-10 minutes it say "error"
Edit: The reason why I wonder about if it's a hardware/software failure is, I do not remember if it came within a install of an costum rom or it just happened out of now where
Any sugestions?

Ignore this info. What you need to do is log into your router hub & change the wifi signal Ch from auto to say, number 4 or summat, guarantee that's your problem.

Hi,
I'm having trouble with my OpO since I rootet it. Here is the history:
-Day One: Just stock 25R, installed all Apps via google play, no problems whatsoever.
-Update 30O still no problems.
-Then I rootet the phone and flashed TWRP recovery to install the Titanium Backups of my old Nexus 4. Thats when I had the first random reboots. Some while Browsing in Chrome, Some on Youtube, Some while listening Music on Hedphones.
Since I have no Sim-Pincode activated a reboot just means, that I'm Offline for about 20 seconds but having that about 5 times a day just isn't acceptable.
-Then I got the 33R OTA update, which made my root and TWRP recovery disappear because I forgot to make a check in the developper settings, but that did not make the reboots disappear
-Today I flashed the 25R stock Image of the Firmware via Fastboot to set my One to real Factory status. I only installed apps via google play and recovered the app data of 2-3 apps via helium backup without root. I got the two OTA updates, and another reboot.
-Then I rootet the thing again, to use a logcat app, and now I have two logcats ending with a reboot.
I really hope that you can help me since I allready sold my old phone and expect that it will take really long until I get a new OpO here in Germany.
The next thing I will do is flash the 25R Image again and install the apps without using helium at all and leave out the goolors icon pack that I used before. But after that I'm absolutely out of ideas.
UPDATE: Yeah so it's definitely a HW defekt or something I cannot solve. I just wiped everything via TWRP, then flashed the factory image 25R without root and just installed some apps via google play. But after one hour I read an email and it rebooted....
Unfortunately I cant post the links to the logcats due to my low post count.
Logcats don't help you when it comes to finding out what is causing your phone to reboot. It is last_kmsg that is responsible for debugging reboots.
A hardware defect would not be causing your phone to reboot, its something to do with the way your phone is configured / set up.
I would highly recommend you to start from scratch completely and do the following,
- Flash XNPH33R http://dist01.slc.cyngn.com/factory/bacon/cm-11.0-XNPH33R-bacon-signed-fastboot.zip from scratch. Make sure you do wipe.
(OR.. flash a custom ROM after wiping)
- List all of the apps that you currently have installed.
- Are you using Xposed?
- Whats your set up? ROM/Kernel/Gapps/etc.
I am not using any custom Rom, root, custom kernel or xposed module.
I just wiped everything in TWRP and flashed the 25R factory image. After about one hour of installing apps in Google play and loging into account i got the first reboot.
I can try flashing the image that you postet tomorrow but thats the same Rom that Im using now

I meant, you can try a custom ROM and see if you can reproduce the problem. Custom ROMs are running on code that is much newer than CM11S.
Ensure you're on XNPH33R when it comes to OTAs.
I just wanted to add my frightful experience. I've had the OPO for two weeks now without problems and no random reboots. Had my first reboot today and just now my phone powered off and wouldn't turn back on. I plugged it back into the wall charger and it turned itself back on but was stuck on the boot logo. I tried holding down the power button to turn it off but nothing. Pressing the power button only turned the display on and off but still stuck on boot logo. Eventually I held down the power button and volume down and the phone buzzed and went to recovery. I'm on stock 33R and Franco's kernel. Haven't tweaked anything. Now I'm afraid my phone is going to brick itself.

Yeah so this is definitely getting worse. At first I had 1-2 reboots a day but today after unplugging I already had 3 reboots in one hour.
I think I am definitely going to send it back when I'm back home next Week.
I already flashed stock Firmware 3 times and did what feels like 10 full wipes in one Week.
This cant be normal. Apps that I installed that arent in the top 50 in the play store are: Dailyme, yatse for xbmc, line, Wolfram aplha and ogyoutube.
That really sucks. I already sold my nexus 4 and have no other phone left
Btw: I'm on 33R for the third time this Werk. Everytime via OTA
Try a different Rom like crDroid + AK Kernel. Running this 2 things since 2 weeks and i only got one reboot just because my camera stopped working because in undervolted my phone ^^
THX but I just want a functioning phone. And since I have errors that nobody else has I think that it is a Hardware issue. At the Moment I am waiting for a answer from one plus so i can send it back

ok I understand your frustration but to fully test your phone you will need to run stock and stock only with no outside apps loaded. Try and do this for a day or half a day or so and see what your results may be. Its your phone and of course do what you like but testing your phone and doing the same thing every time as in reloading your apps is not a good way of fully testing.
also did you do a last_kmsg report as recommended.
Okay will do that. Is there a tutorial to do a last_kmsg report? Do i need root?

Yes you need root. After a reboot just pull the last_kmsg file from /proc/ using adb, file Explorer of your choice, etc.

of course there is a tutorial there is a tutorial for everything.... Got to utilize google my friend.
OKay it's me again. Meanwhile the Oneplus support answered my mails and told me to flash custom Kernels to resolve the issue.
Since Yesterday I tried three Kernels (Franco, Heeroluca and AK) and nothing changed, so now I start to gather some Last_kmsg files name it after the APP where the reboot occured and upload it here. Ofcourse I'm also sending those files to the Oneplus Support
Here is the first one:

Have the same problem. Using wi-fi -> reboot. Don't know how to fix this defect. I hope a solution will be found
Had a random reboot while browsing chrome. I was scrolling down the page and received a text at the same time when my screen froze. After freezing for a few seconds, it rebooted itself. I tried getting the last_kmsg but it tells me that it isn't found. The code I used was: "su" followed with "cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt" in terminal emulator. Let me know if there is anything else I can do. Thanks!
I have also problems with chome beta browser. I get freezes. Is this issus only with chrome or with all browers?

i have a nexus 5 that is completely stock. I used to have it rooted but decided to go back to stock for lollipop. I am running android 5.1. Since I have had lollipop I have zero gps capability. I feel like I have read every thread on the subject and tried every suggestion, but I can never get the gps to lock.
I have tried the. Card stock gps antenna fix, didn't work.
I tried factory reset
I tried device only
I have used gps test and fix
I have used gps status and toolbox
I tried safe mode
I tried mapquest
Bottom line my gps doesn't work at all, it used to, but not anymore. Any ideas on what to do?
Same thing here and I also tried most of what you describe --- 5.1 (LMY47D), clean install (no OTA).
Select high accuracy
What does GPS status show? Flat lines for all satellites? What is the setting you're using for downloading the assistance data?
I used GPS Test and GPS Status -- here are two screenshots: i.imgur.com/o2B5QCk.png
Meanwhile I flashed LMY47I and re-installed everything from scratch. It still feels sluggish but now I can get at least a GPS fix after a couple seconds. Hope it stays this way.

The only solution seems to be this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBpNtWvY454 (confirmed here)
I also tried several tricks and nothing works.
What is the easiest way to do a complete wipe and flash to the latest version of android to see if that will fix it?

The above hardware trick worked for me though (and optimizing the gps.conf file for my region/country).

Thanks for the tip...optimizing the gps.config file is something I have not doen. Can you provide speifics n how you go about doing that? I will try that before I wipe it and start fresh.

Until 'Extra Suggestion.....' I didn't try Leo AGPS Injector BTW.
I just wanted to update everyone...I wiped the phone clean and flashed the phone to the latest stock. GPS issues remained, so I rooted it and tried the GPS.config tip and it didn't help either. Then I downloaded FasterGPS and used it (basically does the same thing the GPS trick linked above does) and now it works again. It takes about a minute for it to lock so it isn't super fast to lock, but it works and I have not heard the GPS signal lost since I did FasterGPS.
Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.
