[Q] Updates for LG-P925G? - LG Optimus 3D

I'm in New Zealand and I bought an LG Optimus 3D via "Mobicity" because I wanted a model that is compatible with the Telecom XT WCDMA network. They sent me a Rogers phone - the LG P925G. It is unlocked.
I love the thing. It's awesome.
But it does raise the question of how I might get any updates. My IMEI will be for a Canadian phone. Does Rogers SIM-lock this phone?
I've tried LG Update and selected Canada as the country. It lists the version of firmware I am currently on (v10C). There do not appear to be any updates.
If there is a way to check for OTA updates, I can't find it in the menus in the phone.
Anyone have any answers to these questions? I've been reading through various threads and most relate to the LG-P920, which is sold here in NZ by Vodafone. But I don't use Vodafone as their new data plans suck and I can get 4 times the data from Telecom for the same money.
I'd like to work out how to update my P925G the "normal" way,if that's possible. I'm happy to root the phone and flash other firmware if there is no other way, but I do not want to disturb or break the 3D functionality of the phone as that is the primary reason I bought it.

Hi Mate... I have the same phone P925g its from Rogers Canada.... It is unlocked... but am afraid if you flash to other roms of P920 u may loose network connectivity like me.... am struggling for it... ! now it is more like a gadget than the phone.

I'm fighting to find if this telephone has a radio-specific chipset for rogers or it's firmware-locked to rogers as I am trying to carry it to videotron... trying to locate the base roger firmware to start poking around since I can't source this information on the net...

Trying exactly the same thing.... the issue is with network radio ... hope its not chipset issue...how to solve this now...

I have an app reporting the radio is an XMM 6260 which is listed as pentaband on intel's website, but I can't seem to source a specification sheet with frequency lists...

which app is that ??

"Phone Info" app.
under ALL VALUES you will see CPU Omap4430 and Radio right under XMM 6260.

Update will be when???
Hi all, I too purchased the 925g from mobicity in Brisbane here and what an awesome piece of technology...
It came branded as Rogers and I spent double the amount of the p920 just to get the 925's NextG compatability... it flies on their network here....
But I am really wanting to go to 2.3 as all of you are too. I too have tried the Canada settings and several others in the hope of getting the update but have had no luck.
I too will not use a custom mod in the fear of losing my dearest features... the 3D.
If anyone has any further info or timeframes I would be all ears
Cheers
Chris

I guess the thing to do is monitor Rogers and see if / when an update comes out. One was due out in October...which has very few days left now.
Or just buy an HTC Evo 3D as HTC are very good about Android updates....and it's a higher spec phone anyway.
BTW - Ive worked out how to make 3D videos for uploading to YouTube that will also play perfectly on the LG Optimus 3D. My YouTube channel is "linuxluver". The last 4-5 videos should work perfectly in landscape. If you want to know how to do it, post a comment on a video or send me a message on YT.

Hi again... I have been frustrated that others have GB and not us with rogers phones so I pretended to be a Canadian (not an american lol) and got into their live chat assistance system... Bottom line is they have no idea of a release date for the rogers branded p925g...

Have you heard anything ???

I have a p925g, Rogers branded - actually on Rogers in Canada.
I tried flashing up v21a base band, but I has massive problems with getting a signal and (strangely) my wifi. It really wasn't useable unless you are cool with edge only. Gross.
There where a few sweet spots where I could stand and get proper hpsa though, so it sort of almost worked...
My advice would be to not try it, its kind of a long procedure to go back to froyo.
We are pretty much stuck until Rogers decides to do something about it. Its a piss off ;(

Good Morning!
The topic of this thread is semi-related to the GB Baseband for Canada thread.
As I have stated in that thread, I am using a Rogers P925 that is unlocked and using the Bell network.
I flashed the GB KDZ file (twice before it worked) and I have successfully upgraded to Gingerbread without any network issues!
My network speeds when running speedtest lie on average in the 2.5Mbps-5.5Mbps range (which is exactly the same as when I was usuing Froyo; HSDPA+ will have to wait for the official update!
There is a mobilesyrup article you may google which states Rogers intends to roll out an update piror to the end of the year.
Those of you that are brave may want to flash the GB KDZ (you can akways go back to Froyo quite easily if it does not work). Otherwise, the update appears to be expected in a few weeks!
In the meantime I am enjoying the use of Acurom!
Thank you, Audi.

SO glad to see other P925G users...
Hi, I am in Australia, Brisbane and also have a Rogers P925G. I grabbed it over the 920 as it supports our Telstra Nextg network here. It has amazing speed and coverage. Well at least it did until I put GB on it using the 21a_00.kdz that I think we are all using and now instead of the 4G icon in the network status I get 3G and sometimes H but the signal strength has dropped away to less than half or worse everywhere.
My guess is that the GB build is not using the proper radios for NextG. 850Mhz I think from memory but I am pretty sure the phone must be using the 2100Mhz network only. The upgrade to GB has impressed me but I want to go back to froyo network speeds.
You say here that it is easy to get the rogers software back on there but I have had no luck at all, not through the update tool, through PC Suite, through trying to unbrick it because it was bricked for a bit too until I found the recovery mechanism..
My question I guess is... Is there a way to get GB to recognize the correct radio hardware with the 21v_00.kdz build and if not, how the heck do I get it back to the original firmware please... I am struggling and would really love some help.
Am stoked with the 925 though and have since also found a cheap second hand unlocked 920. It went to GB on optus no worries. It interestingly gives me the very same signal strength with a nextg sim and that is why I think the 850 radio is just not being used.

Might have found something
In my quest to get radios working on correct frequencies I found a post here that talked about hidden menus. One of them ... 3845#*920# punched into the phone gives you the ability to play with the bandwidth settings radios etc.
I set mine to wCDMA 850 and have been much happier since
Hope it gives food for thought...

Thanks so much. I have had no luck with this phone since I've gotten it, and that really helped increase the network speeds I've been getting. now I just need to figure out how to get signal on custom roms, and find and flash a radio file for this thing.

i have been playing around with that.
GSM 850 gives me FULL edge service. the bar has not even dipped...
WCDMA i put between 850/1900 and saw little difference.

Just for fun I emailed rogers support about the update to this phone. Hilarious, these guys
My first reply was..

released until they are launched to the consumer market. We suggest you
visit www.rogers.com/telephones because when new products are released
they are listed here."

Huh? Thats not even the same question I asked! They didn't even so much as read it Awesome guys. But hey, maybe I just got a dummy. So I replied and said something along the lines of "No, not a new phone, just an update you promised me when I bought it." and I got another reply!
"I have provided you with a link to find the answer to the Gingerbread Update you are inquiring about: http://communityforums.rogers.com/t...id/Android/message-id/954/highlight/true#M954. "

Oh, progress! Oh wait, no. Thats for a Nexus One -- another phone entirely. Again, they didn't even bother to read the question.
But apparently I'm a valued customer
A forum post I found on that same forum contained this troubling post though,
Just spoke with LG briefly, I was told that we will NOT be getting the GingerBread update at all. Instead they are skipping it and we will be getting ICS instead. He would not disclose any sort of time frame for the update though.

Thats kind of annoying if its true -- p920 and p925 are pretty damn similiar phones except for the radio... whats the big deal here anyway, I don't quite get why getting an update out for this phone is such a pain in the ass.
Cheers!

Well I am assuming that most of you posting in here are on rogers. I am on Fido, and I am wondering if any of you have gotten any roms workning on this phone other than stock? What's the difference between 925 and 925g? Why do I only get one bar when I switch up roms? Is there no way to extract our radio file to zip, flash a custom rom, then reflash rogers radio? I came from a nexus s, then an xperia play both of which are very customizable. This phone seems to be a nightmare, I wonder if this is a mistake getting this thing and I've only had it 3 or 4 days.

Well. If you've only had it a few days I'd return it and get a phone with better support. There are only two optimus 3d's, P920 and P925G, though. I just leave the 'g' off because its a bit redundent
Seriously though, the hardware is great, and the software would be fine with the carriers didn't treat their customers like crap. LG has the damn firmware apparently, too bad we'll never see it.
As much as I like the hardware, I'd return it if I could for something that works with Gingerbread, a lot of cool apps require it now and we're left out. My banking software requires GB *for some reason* and Onlive looks pretty cool...

[Q] Questions about OTA rollouts???

As far as getting OTA updates, is there any difference between being on T-Mobile's phone network or on random wi-fi link? Does it make any difference if the sim card is in the phone or not?
I don't have reception at all at home so the phones are just on wifi and I often only spend a few hours a week on T-Mobile's network. So at that rate I may never get the OTA update. And lately my SIM card is in my spare rooted G2x which I've been using to try out ROMs.
Does anyone have any idea how phones are selected for updating? Random based on IMEI number? Phone number? SIM card? Date phone was purchased? Date the phone was manufactured? Does account type matter? Prepaid vs contract etc.?? The lack of info about this is infuriating. Same as the new market, weeks later, still no new market on my stock phone (not side loading anything on that phone).
The fact that Google has no direct support for Android at all and they are leaving support completely to grossly incompetent companies like LG and T-Mobile bodes very poorly in my estimation. Will this have me go to a locked down phone like iPhone or WM7 phones? No. But it leads me hoping they might open up WebOS more and get it on some better hardware.
Basically, is there anything I can do to influence the situation, or is it completely random? Does checking more often help, or will my phone only get the update once Google/LG/T-Mobile determine my phone will get it???
No one has any idea? Not even wild, inaccurate speculation??
I am interrested in knowing this as well! I spend most of the day on wifi calling either at work or at home...
I recently spoke to tech support he told me he would recommend updating thru the lg update tool because its a secure connection.

I heard they use IMEIs, but I don't think the IMEIs are necessarily in order of oldest to newest. One of my buddies who bought his nexus one from google a couple months after I did would always get OTAs before I did.
And we both got OTAs over wifi. I wouldn't know if your sim card needs to be in there, but I would definitely leave it in and just run the *#*#checkin#*#* command just in case.
But nonetheless, to anybody:
Please use alogcat while downloading the OTA.
Once done, just upload the whole logcat so that we can find the URL for the OTA.
Ha! Strangely, I got my OTA GB today. While on cellular, not wifi. Go figure.
Still waitin' on the new market......
Sorry, I wish I had known about the logcat thing. I may flash stock 2.2 onto my spare rooted g2x and wait to see when it gets the OTA, I want nothing to do with the LG updater app, but I might loose patience, we'll see....
Oh, and the *#*#checkin#*#* command??? Has this been tested to work on the G2x? Is that regarded as useful on Android phones in general? Or certain brands, like just HTCs? Search isn't showing too much info on that.

[Q] Flashing Stock Gingerbread without LG Updater or OTA possible?

I will soon be getting a G2X shipped to me in Thailand. I have heard that the LG Updater will refuse to update the phone if you don't have an active T-Mobile account. Is there a zip package I can flash with Clockwork Mod that will flash the Stock Gingerbread Update? A pre-rooted one would be preferred also. Or the alternative would be a Stock Gingerbread Nandroid backup I could restore.
Yes. You have pre-rooted stock in dev section. But you won't get new baseband. For that you'll need to use OTA or LG update.

What is the advantages of the new baseband?
Is it true that the LG Updater will refuse to update the phone without a valid T-Mobile account? Or is just having an old T-Mobile sim in the phone good enough? Or is this misinformation and the sim doesn't matter? I already have the unlock code for the phone. I will be receiving the phone early next week, hopefully.
New baseband has better GPS lock and data connection is smoother. I don't think you need Tmo account to update, but I do know that LG updater is risky and may brick the phone. (

I don't use GPS much but having smoother data would be nice. Yes, I have heard lots of horror stories regarding the LG Updater. I test ran it with my wife's Optimus T and it flashed an update with no problems; but that doesn't mean that the G2X update would go as smooth. Thanks for replying and your valuable information.

I am surprised that being over there, you got a G2X rather then an O2X like you wife's.
To get the baseband, you could also do the kdx flashing route that is covered in this forum. However, data works pretty good in the original baseband, and you can flash just the ROMs over it without worrying about bricking it.

My wife has an Optimus T, not an O2X. I went with the G2X for three reasons. The first one is that I hate the UI that LG puts on the O2X (I have played around with demo phones at Tesco). It is almost a clone of the Samsung UI. I prefer vanilla Android, which the G2X has. Also, I got a second hand one in very good condition from a reliable source I have purchased many, many devices from for $269 with shipping to my USA address (shipping to Thailand is another $9.00). So the total transaction cost me just over 8,000 baht. The new O2Xs here are 17,900 baht (almost $600) and used ones are going for around 12,000 baht. The third reason is that there is still no Gingerbread update released for O2X devices. I prefer stock roms over mods like Cyanogen. Having used a Nexus One for a while I prefer Gingerbread. On the G2X I will flash CWM recovery and then the 2.3.3 flashable zip. I can live without updating the baseband for now. If the G2X works well I will give my wife the Nexus One. If not, I will resell it at a profit.

I do not know what data bands you have over there (I have not been there for a long time - when the exchange rate was 16-18:1), and that is why I was questioning your choice (unless you only use WiFi for data - then it does not matter).
You will have a choice of rooted or unrooted flashable ROM's. I would guess you would go with the rooted.
PS - your written English is excellent - way better then many US located posters, whose posts are sometimes almost undecipherable.
I use TOT3G which runs on 2100, which the G2X can use. AIS just turned on their 3G system in Bangkok on 900 and DTAC and True use 850. Glad to hear my English is good. Being an American expat living in Thailand it's good to know. With the declining value of the dollar against the baht bringing stuff over here is getting cheaper. I wish it was 16 to 18 to 1, then the stuff would be even cheaper. When buying from the USA you multiply the dollar price by the baht to the dollar amount. So if the exchange rate was 18 to 1, I would be paying less than 5,000 baht for the phone. As the ratio goes down, it means the baht is strengthening against the dollar and buying stuff from the USA gets cheaper when converted to baht.

Q: return to stock tmo branded for waranty repair?

I want to return to stock on my tmobile branded HTC sensation 4G. I have flashed the radio, eng s off, and CSL recovery.
I am going to give them a shot at fixing my reception issues before I destroy the phone and buy something else.
Did you have reception problems before flashing your radio or after? I think you should be fine with having a rom since HTC released their bootloader if its a big deal and your really worried just flash a stock rom on that bad boy and call it a day. Just my 2 cents new to the site so hopefully a vet will chime in here for help
Though I've never returned to stock on my phone, you just need to download one of the TMOUS RUUs in this thread:
[ROM][11 May] Shipped Pyramid ROM Collection
There are two listed for TMOUS (there was only one when last I checked the thread), but it supposedly doesn't matter which one you pick according to one of the posts later on in the thread.
They're big old files, but just run the .EXE and it ought to walk you through every necessary step to proceed properly.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Thank you very much for the great responses.
Yes I had reception problems on all 3 sensation 4g's I've had my hands on. It's terrible. Side by side, on the same tower, it gets far lower reception than my old Motorola Cliq (piece of slow crap.)
It's ridiculously low and drops calls. It's so unreliable at my house that I have to use WiFi calling and take a drop if I get more than 30' from my extremely good wireless router. meh. crap.
To the other gentleman, than you very much. I figured it included the radio, but I was unsure about the bootloader/recovery. I will start there and then figure out if there is anything else I need to fix before I send it in. I don't want any more BS from them. I'm sure they are just going to send it back and say "nothing is wrong".
They have said that it is comparable to reception on their other models. If this is the case, this will be the VERY last HTC phone I ever own, and our company has just gotten to the point that I can invest in things such as this for business. If we only get 2 at a time, every 6 months or so, That is $10,000 in lost business in the next ten years, provided they are only $500 phones.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion and ask a few questions....
1. Have you tried reverting to stock and see if you still have the same problems with reception?
2. Are you aware that the Sensation suffers from the grip of death?
3. Have you noticed performance with reception after flashing a new ROM in comparison to stock?
I think I may have some insight to the real problem but need this info first.

Yes, They (3 different phones) had this problem from day 1. Purchased from different places, at different times.

Yes, but this isn't to what I refer. Holding the phone in a weird way to make the radios D/C isn't my problem so much as the design that allows this to happen in the first place is my problem. If I set the phone down, I get more bars than if I hold it normally. If this is the difference between 2-3 and 1-2, I can get dropped calls. My wifi range (max performance on) is 1/10th of my tablet and 1/20th of my laptop.
Even without touching the phone, just setting it on a wood counter top, it has less reception than my Motorola Cliq or Mytouch 4g, even when on the same tower. The cliq's reception does not change if I pick it up.
It's a bad design. If it is what HTC considers acceptable, then their phones aren't acceptable to me. It's cool. I'm not really that pissed about it. I just won't buy another. There are options.

No, I've found no increase in reception with any change I've made. I've flashed 5 different radios other than stock with no changes in this department.
I have heard people have speed changes, but I was not tracking that so I can't really respond to that.

Hope you have some help.
I've already tried a new back. It did nothing. There simply aren't enough towers in my area (all edge towers anyway) to support a phone with such poor reception. My Cliq had no issues with dropped calls in many of the areas I drive through, but this sensation just can't make it down my parents road without dropping.
The reason I ask is that I think that the Radio-Interface-Layer (RIL) files must be screwing with your radio. The RILs are like drivers for your radio. Different radios work with different RILs depending on your location. Long-in-short-version, Since the Sensation is fairly new, we are still exploring what works best and therefore your mileage may vary.
You may want to check this thread
And check out your RIL version. To check to see what RIL you have run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" in Terminal Emulator or adb shell and it will print out the RIL version.
T-Mo users should utilize HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ if not running 2.3.4 ROMS
2.3.4 ROMS require HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ. The matching radio versions are included in the thread posted above.
Hope this helps.
If that fails, tonight, TMOUS released an OTA update. See if you can get it through Settings-> About Phone -> HTC Software updates.
The changes for the T-Mo update can be found here
Hope this helps!
EDIT : I am assuming that you have a T-Mobile Sensation 4G and not an unbranded HTC Sensation and that you current location is in fact Myrtle Beach, SC. But then again, I hate assumptions and I really should have asked >.< **having a simpson 'doh' moment here**

I'm sending it to HTC, not tmobile.
I will play with the MILs right now (installing the tmo one)
I'm on stock RUU now, but it did not replace the PVT S-OFF and recovery crashes and requires a battery pull to reboot. It goes to a icon of a phone with a red triangle thingie on it.
EDIT: MIL's match.
EDIT: Texts from 10076200000 is tmobile related. WTF it does is WTF.

Could be trying to push the OTA update. Have you tried applying the OTA update?
iNFORMATION
I have personally reset my phone a couple of times using the tmo ruu and know that it sets your phone back to absolute stock, with no root and only being s-off. What this means is, if you wish to reroot then you are going to have to go back through the rooting process.
As far as the symbol that you are seeing when you try to do an ota update? The reason that you are seeing the phone with a red triangle is because your phone is being recognized as being rooted and once rooted htc will not allow an ota to your phone. You have to trick HTC into thinking that the phone is not rooted in order to get the ota, there is a thread in the forums for this. I do not remember which thread it is, however, I know that it works as I did it for all four of the HTC sensations that I own.

Downsides to the Skyrocket/AT&T LTE?

Coming from a Nexus One, I just got a Skyrocket yesterday.
While having a dual core and LTE speed is indeed nice, the phone is a f****** brick in comparison to the Nexus One, so I am somewhat regretting my decision and might return it ...
It's easy to see the upsides of the phone (speed, large screen, better built quality than the N1), I also want to know what the downsides are, so I can make an informed decision.
As far as I can tell, I already see these - which I mostly pulled together based on my own experiences and what I read on this forum:
1. Throttling of LTE unlimited data plans (I never had that problem on my N1 - though I did not really use that much data (no video streaming))
2. Uncertain CM7/CM9 support - as far as I can tell there are some unofficial ports under way, but no dev from CM has joined the effort and non of the current devs have officially joined the CM team?
3. F'ing AT&T blocking websites (e.g. justin.tv (not that I ever want to go to this site but I am pissed about being blocked))
4. CIQ BS on the stock software (ok, can be fixed by using a custom ROM but still ...)
5. AT&T might watch LTE usage more closely for tethering? I frequently tethered and never had any issues with the N1 - though I did not really use that much data (no video streaming)
6. Reception issues on the stock software (I am in LA with little LTE, yet the phone ALWAYS connects to LTE and NEVER falls back to 3G giving me really sh** reception)
7. Size: it's a brick, not a phone.
8. Unlocking - my N1 was obviously unlocked and at&t never gave me any problems unlocking before, though I heard they might not unlock the Skyrocket PERIOD.
9. Uncertainty about specs (and whether it supports intl. 3G/UMTS2100)?
I am happy to have people convince me otherwise, but at the moment some of these con's outweigh the pro's (the size con even in a literal sense, hahaha)
Also let me know if you know of any other good (normal sized) phones (ideally with the same specs otherwise) that might come to AT&T (or might be available unlocked). I would probably love this phone if it had a 3.7" screen in the same form factor as the N1.
Who cares lol you came to the wrong placce to complain about the skyrocket. If u dont like it take it back. This thread is useless, and should be closed

Your comment is useless. Thank you.
Its not really. We are here because we love the phone and for once its a group that sees a few short comings and we are working as a group to fix them.
You knew the dimensions of the phone when you bought it. For that statement alone...take it back.
Nearly every other complaint you have mentioned has been corrected with development by some very dedicated dev work new and experienced.
In the end only you can make the choice...but when you ask for an opinion be prepared for what you are going to receive good and bad

Some have the issue some dont, dont abuse it and probably wont be throttled.2. Uncertain CM7/CM9 support - as far as I can tell there are some unofficial ports under way, but no dev from CM has joined the effort and non of the current devs have officially joined the CM team?
I think it will be ported, maybe not cm9 but we have started a thread over there and asked them to, but we will see. its just a ROM - if thats your looking for pick something else. 3. F'ing AT&T blocking websites (e.g. justin.tv (not that I ever want to go to this site but I am pissed about being blocked))
4. CIQ BS on the stock software (ok, can be fixed by using a custom ROM but still ...)
i think this was fixed with they dropped 2.3.6 - i have never tried nor found a site that i couldnt get to. if the fix is a Custom Rom and your answer is BUT STILL....then why are you on these forums. Roms are like clothes change them ****s and move on.
5. AT&T might watch LTE usage more closely for tethering? I frequently tethered and never had any issues with the N1 - though I did not really use that much data (no video streaming)
if you dont video stream, i DOUBT you will ever get throttled or sent the little AT&T teathering email.
6. Reception issues on the stock software (I am in LA with little LTE, yet the phone ALWAYS connects to LTE and NEVER falls back to 3G giving me really sh** reception)
i dont have an answer for this, im in a LTE area with NO PROBLEMS
7. Size: it's a brick, not a phone.
u know what they say about little hands

Good Luck
If you have questions about the device, it's no problem to ask them here. Although, there is a right way to do it. If you have searched and cannot find the answer, then ask. When you do ask, don't come of as a troll like you're bashing the phone and provoking users into defending it. You should know how that is going to end up. Lets keep this thread in the right direction......

Sounds to us like you've already made your mind up. And the poeple above are right. This IS the skyrocket forum on xda. Were only going to tell you that we love our skyrocket. Which we do. There's not a single phone out there that does not have problems. My biggest problem with every other phone out there is a locked bootloader. Which means it will be even harder for any dev to fix any of the problems you have with any phone you choose. Good luck!

Thank you! That was very helpful.
There are lots of good things about this phone (eg call quality is a hundred times better than on the Nexus One which always sounded like a string/tin-can phone).
I want to know about all the bad things, and what is being done to address them.
Does anyone know whether any current CM devs are considering the phone?
Or whether any current Skyrocket devs might join CM/bring official CM support for this phone?
Not getting CM9 would be a dealbreaker for me.
I only found threads about at&t blocking websites on the new LTE APN - I did not find anything about other ROMs or the new stock software update fixing it. Can you point me to the thread?
Reception issues: do custom ROMs/radios fix this problem for anyone that has experienced this?
Does anyone know whether at&t will unlock the phone (or whether we are stuck having to pay these third party sites to unlock)
European 3G - lot's of sites claim that the phone should work with 3G internationally (2100 UMTS) but has anyone tried (even just roaming on at&t)?
Manufacturers and providers have lied before about phone specs ... need to get this confirmed.

Simple, google the Qualcomm radio this phone has, then look up the specs on Qualcomm's website.

That is no answer, since the carrier might have disabled the radio, eg the T-Mobile G2x has quad-band 3G but they disabled the ATT 3G radio when the phone was released.
Someone with the phone needs to test it - since the phone has been out for a while now, I would hope that someone has done so.
Otherwise, we will not know based on some BS specs on some BS website.
only thing I'm worried about is not getting ICS OTA update till late next year and thats really only because I 2nd guess myself over just about everything technology which is halting me from rooting

and as far as ICS, OTA or not....we WILL have ICS on the this phone due to the devs porting it over. im thinking by maybe Feb we will have something for our phone. or im hoping anyway.
I bet we get ICS even sooner. Also what's this about ATT blocking justin.tv? Plays fine over ATT LTE for me...
Yeah. this phone really sucks. Lets see..
I get 28+hours on my battery..
Large screen with beautiful display
LTE with 40down speeds my comcast cable has 18 down
Good Dev support so far..
I am so sick and tired of hearing this phone is " sub par" etc..
I think I will treat myself to a new Samsung led 1080p hdtv this week...lol

[Q] ICS time!

I have had my Atrix 2 8 days past the 30 day mark. And recently the phone has started getting really hot. Not when I am using but when it is just sitting.
I have checked to see what app or process could be running and causing it. And I have found nothing. This is what I have checked so far
Wifi is off
Bluetooth is off
GPS is off
Here are the only things using my power
Cell Standby 33%
Phone Idle 31%
Voice Calls 9%
Motorola Services 4%
Display 4%
And it gets smaller from there. I can set the phone down and walk away and come back to pick it up and it is smokin hot with 40% of the battery drained.
I sent an email to Motorola support on New Years. I have not heard back from them. I also contacted ATT and they want to give me a refurbished phone. Which I have refused due to last phone I did with them. I got a scratched up dented phone in trade for my flawless phone. I told them my phone has been used for 38 days and is flawless I want the same back.
I liked the phone at first but I am about at my wits end. Any ideas what can be causing this?
Hey Motorola Atrix 2 users! It's been a few weeks since my last post here, and my topic is the same as it once was lol
I have a Samsung Infuse 4G, but I want to work with my Dad's Motorola Atrix 2, now rooted, Stock OTA Gingerbread 2.3.6.
After rooting his device, I was able to get him certain little features he really wanted (mobile hotspot, notification toggles, screenshot) without switching his ROM. He ended up not wanting to switch, then lol.
It's his birthday today, though, and he still wants ICS, so I gave this forum a look around and noticed this which, if I understand correctly, will get him onto an ICS leak.
From there, I'd be able to flash SCv7 (the ICS ROM my quick poking around tells me is the most stable right now), right over the leak with no problem, right?
It seems things are a lot more stable for ICS and this device than they were a few weeks ago, and I'd really love to get him onto SCv7 later today (it's about 5:30 AM where I am right now) if possible. Would SCv7 be a good choice as an ICS daily driver with data, wifi, mobile hotspot, GPS, and MMS all functioning? I haven't read anything to the contrary lol.
Also, Is there anyone I can PM while I go through this process? I'm a Samsung guy, so some Motorola aspects of modding are a bit sketchy to me lol
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! I'll offer what little I know about the Samsung Infuse (and probably the Samsung Galaxy S series devices, since they're pretty similar) in return if that encourages anyone lol I know I'm asking a lot here, but you guys seem like a really helpful and efficient community!
Thanks a lot!
if you are having AT&T hardware MB865 then the ICS leak will work. (OP suggests that)
and if something goes wrong (most of the time it WONT !) & if u Hardbrick ur fone then pls
dont blame anyone.
talking about SCV7 ... its buttery smooooth u can go for that too
just FOLLOW the STEPS EXACTLY
all the best :fingers-crossed:
Official ICS from Motorola is a few weeks away. Some people have bricked their phones flashing the leak and then reverting back to 2.3.5. Be safe and wait for the phone to update itself via OTA (provided it is on stock 2.3.6) to the final released ICS from Motorola directly.

Definitely not, I would never blame someone else! And I always read each step many times before actually doing it. I've flashed about 4 ROMs on my Infuse and I've never bricked once :fingers-crossed:, same with rooting both devices
So you feel SCv7 is good for GPS, MMS, Data, Wifi, Tethering, and Bluetooth? Thanks again!

The Motorola Feedback Network (MFN) has been recruiting users for the ICS Soak Test. The soak test is the final step before the OTA is released to the public. We are expecting the soak test to start this week. They send the OTA to 1,000 qualified MFN members to make sure the final version of the OTA is stable. If that goes well the OTA goes live two to three weeks later and is usually rolled out over a few weeks so their update servers are not overloaded all at once. When it is ready if the phone is on 2.3.6 stock it will get a notification that the update is ready and to download and install it.

Rayk, check out the thread "Which phone should I buy" in there mr Jim tells us how to get the folks at the ATT store to let us upgrade early. The ATT store totally hooked me up even though I had 11 months to go. This may be a good way for you to get your dad hooked up with much faster equipment. That said I think my new Moto Atrix HD with ICS is going to be very similar to the Atrix 2 ICS. I would bet that benchmark tests would come out equal from what I've seen in some of the ICS threads. The screen is slightly bigger but the battery draw is quite a bit more. With Bluetooth connected, GPS on, connected to LTE tower (using navigation so data is being pulled), and screen on @ 50% brightness it is reading 4330mV in my battery widget by elvision. All that said can someone message me what the atrix 2 (HSPA+ of course) draws under the same conditions? Thanks, Jeff.

I also can attest to the early upgrade with AT&T. I was not due for my 'regular' upgrade, but since I have been with them for so long, a few words to the manager and they hooked me up as well (got the SGS3). So, from a $450 dollar charge for the phone, I walked out only paying $180 for it. It's worth a try, and if nothing else, if you tell them that you are seriously considering switching carriers, they will do most anything for you to keep you as a customer!

That's totally true guys lol if AT&T is good for one thing, it's
bending over backwards to not lose customers. Months before we were due for an upgrade, by suggesting we were going to T-Mobile, my Dad managed to get us my Infuse, 2 Motorola Atrix 2s, an iPhone 4s, and an HTC Amaze. It was incredible LOL
So I don't think we can try doing it again lol but definitely you guys are right and thanks a lot for the advice!

Definitely gonna wait now. OTA sounds good to me!
I'll just tell him the good news lol and have him wait. His birthday present didn't come in the mail yet, so that's why I was gonna do this. But if it means about a month give or take until he's running ICS OTA, then I'll advise him to wait. Thank you!
