[Q] I Used My Friend "The Search Key" But No Results - Samsung Infuse 4G

I promise i searched "nandroid" but only result that came out was someone who flashed gingerbread kernal on froyo nandroid (something i would do...lol)
I've flashed my Vibrant and EVO a million diff ways from Sunday (i don't know too much, just enuf to get me in BIG TRUBBLE but luckily i have never ONCE seen that dreaded yellow triangle...lol
Anyway, here's where i am confused:
I rooted my Infuse, i installed unzipped modded 3e recovery, i flashed Recovery i9000 thru ROM MGR, then flashed into recovery thinking there would be a "nandroid backup" option and there isn't....
I don't want to flash Infused or any other ROM, i just want a nandroid backup option... Is that possible?(and if so, s-p-e-a-k v-e-r-r-r-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y...lol

Ms. D

You can back up your current rom by either booting into red CWM recovery, select Backup and Restore or open up Rom Manager and select Backup Current Rom option, and there you go.

I'm guessing the recovery you are booting into is blue (which isnt really recovery) reinstall packs and you should be in green CWM recovery,
It won't say "nandroid", but you will have the option for "backup and restore" which is basically the same thing.

Don't know why i never saw anything before about that reinstalling pkgs to get it to the green screen, i guess cuz i always flashed a ROM that had it cooked in it maybe? But this time around i don't wanna flash any ROMS, i got it running perfectly just rooted and with a few tweaks : )

No problem that's what were here for. Re-installing the packages is what changes the recovery ie 3e and cwm
Holy MIUI Batman!

Wow you messed up on the West part of the process but got through the hard stuff, a little ditsy but nothing to be too ashamed of.
You did better than most guys who ask questions. Actually the girls usually do. Next time just get heimdall (more reliable than Odin and its easier to extract.tar dukes for Odin to use in heimdall than to create .tar files for use in Odin for custom stuff). And flash a voodoo kernel. Trust me its easier than what you did(fewer steps) and once gingerbread is out you will have to do this to root. Soc will no longer work with 2.3.3 or newer.

captivate cwm works on infuse.[sort of]

just to give you guys some more confidence i ran trusselo's super easy batch scritp on my dad's windows 7 box to hack 3e recovery.
you can look at my 3e thread in captivate general but do not attempt the kernel swap methods!
use trusselo's script on windows
if it fails or you are on a mac/linux machine then use the manual 3e fix after you root the device.
after i got 3e modded for self signed update.zip zip flashing like the old 2e recovery on 2.1 sgs phones i installed rom manager and chose the captivate cwm recovery. rebooted into recovery, reinstaled packages. phone rebooted, reistaled packages again and i was sucessfully in cwm. from there i was able to backup the stock rom and installed a .zip file that just changed my build.prop (taking baby steps) i could have spoofed the build.prop in many ways but it was for the sake of testing. the flash was successful. i booted up checked for the change and confirmed it was written to /system properly.
then i rebooted and restored the backup. there were some graphical errors including a broken progress bar and a splash screen that covers the menu when the restore is done so it is difficult to navigate, but it is something. success! the restored rom booted and the old build.prop was in place proving it was a successful restore.
tomorrow i will try a replaced vending.apk (market) and the build.prop as a market fix and post it in a thread if it works. if gtg465x doesnt mind i will try to build a rom off his deodexed rom if someone doesnt beat me to it.
i think we need a bounty to buy a dev phone for someone more knowledgable than me. i dont want to go all cowboy and brick this thing, the captivate had much more as far as backup plans so im being more cautious with this one. and even if i had a dev phone i wouldnt be of as much help as others around xda.

it does but there seems to be a problem. not sure why, i had no issues flashing small mods for testing but people are having trouble flashing roms. besides that the restore process seems to give me some graphical bugs but works. as far as i can tell it works like it should but i wont discredit others claiming issues mounting the sd card.

What does it say on your phone
If the phone boots to anything, your not bricked.
Sounds like your trying to flash it the wrong way or something? Download the ROM you want, put it on your SD, you can mount from CWM if you cant boot past recovery.
Wipe/factory data reset
Then install from zip
Select your ROM and your on your way
Well first the S/W updating screen, then unplug the phone put the battery and reboot to CWM and when im going to do a restore/backup it always says wrong image or no image file or no file or m5 something as for now i cant do nothing to restore my phone.
I have seen where that happens at times, where you cant restore someone else's backup. If you have access to a pc, just download a new ROM. BTW, Gingerbread is far more stable on my phone then any FROYO was

not a problem. the brother above is right, it sounds like you are trying to flash the nandroid restore instead of flashing a rom. I apologize for not making more clear when I sent you the post. You can actually restore that but you dont flash from zip you go to backup/restore and choose restore for that file in that post.
1. You must have ROM Manager installed and or ClockworkMod Recovery flashed and an external sdcard installed. Then have the directory and file contents of the "LG-P999-V10f.rar" file extracted to your external SDCard in the _ExternalSD/clockworkmod/backup/ directory.
2. Run ROM Manager and choose Reboot into Recovery or boot phone into clockworkmod recovery.
3. In recovery go down to backup and restore, choose restore.
4. Select LG-P999-V10f and choose Yes - Restore.
5. When the restore finishes do not reboot yet. Do a "wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu.
6. When it completes choose Reboot.

Glad you got it worked out. The x-boarders stock tweaked is really nice and very stable. Its probably the best IMO. I also like the AOSP by Faux combined with his OC kernel is really nice also. There is also another I have been hearing alot about that seems to be really nice with alot of custom options and tweaks and thats called Weapon. Happy Flashing
Thanks a lot im going to check them out!!!
One more question??
When i go to the sounds menu on the ringtones they appear three times all the sounds, why is that??
Sounds like you have an older SD you may have used in another device? You most likely have them on your SD a few times under Audio or something IIRC
Maybe who knows jeje, but i just flash a froyo rom and it fixed so no worries.

Please help a newbie out

Hey All,
Just had my infuse for a week and no complaints about the phone so far. But I have been reading a lot on this forum and I want to get off this stocky phone and get a ROM on it and see how much better it will be.
I'm fairly new to this as I have never rooted or loaded ROM's before, so running into a lot of problems. Trying to root my Rogers Infuse with superoneclick which didn't work and ended up getting stuck in boot loop so used odin3 fix and got it up and running again and rooted phone.
I downloaded the 3e recovery and used root explorer to r/w in system/bin which is telling me to rename old recovery file but for some reason I don't have an original recovery file. So I just paste the one I downloaded and unzipped in the folder, use rom manager and flash cwm. Then when I get to cwm recovery to reinstall packages but that option is not available on screen.
Sorry guys I'm pretty struggling with this, I have been searching all over and starting to think I should just stick to stock. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance!!

you never set up CWM...
download rom manager from the market, click "flash clockworkmod recovery", then select plain old galaxys i900.
this should give you the "reinstall packages" option that you are looking for, and selecting that twice will get you to green recovery.
or you could just flash any infusion froyo kernel with heimdall or odin and get directly to red CWM (which is where you generally want to be flashing zips from).
Damn just tried it but stuck on Samsung boot screen. Seemed like everything got loaded on the phone, Odin3 said it was completed too. Maybe there is something wrong with my phone thanks.

try starting fresh from stock, and following this video to get your modded 3e recovery. make sure you adjust the permissions like the video does.

There are 2 downloads there that I see. "stock + rooted + 3e" and the other is "100% stock"
E
whenever i need to (i say that because most of the time it isn't really necessary), i always go back to 100% stock, do a factory reset from settings (make sure the contents of your SD card are backed up), and re-root it using superoneclick (making sure USB debugging is on, and my SD card is mounted).
then, follow the youtube video for modded 3e recovery, making sure to adjust the permissions at the end. flash clockworkmod recovery again in rom manager (plain old galaxys i9000), and this should allow you to finally flash your ROM.
Yea going to give it one last try before I go to bed thanks!

UCKD5 is a Froyo AT&T-derived ROM - the bootloaders on your Rogers Infuse probably won't like it.
It looks like you eventually figured things out, but in general - the Rogers Infuse has different "back to stock" and "rooting" processes from AT&T devices due to it having stock Gingerbread and more specifically, Gingerbread bootloaders. Since far more people here own AT&T Infuses, the Rogers-specific threads tend to get buried on the 2nd/3rd pages of dev, and people here forget that Rogers devices are "special" when posting suggestions.

[q] do not use rom manager - help!

I read the posts, but maybe I did not understand?
I downloaded CWM and installed via the Android Market. Then I see the icon is named ROM Manager (whoops, is this already bad). I hit the "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery" button. Then I used up/down volume and power to boot into CWM and did a backup from there.
So am I screwed?
Is the backup good?
Can I use the CWM that I have as long as I boot into it?
Please, I have not been able to understand exactly what the "DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER" means. If I just boot is that ok?
I guess you can tell I'm new but I have a lot of software experience - just not in this environment - maybe I'm moving too fast for my knowledge (I think so now!).

As you can see, CWM is included in the kernel you flash, and thus there is no need for ROM manager. It doesn't play nice with this device anyway, and is just unnecessary imo.
Use the recovery not rom manager itself...

So the OP is fine if he uninstalls Rom Manger even though he used it to flash CWM Recover? That seems a lot simpler then the cwm injected kernal method I just did.
Install rom manger, flash CWM, uninstall rom manger... flash roms all day. Would that work?

ROM MANAGER IS NOT CWM.
CWM is in the KERNEL (well, to be specific, in the initramfs of the kernel) on nearly all Samsung devices.
ROM Manager is an app that tries to install CWM, but FAILS to do so correctly on our device. CWM versions installed by ROM Manager DO NOT WORK PROPERLY on the I777.
ok heres the deal the cwm you booted into was probably rom manager cwm. so here are the next steps to take. question is are you using a custom kernel that has cwm installed? when you rooted your device did you have cwm installed? i also noticed you were using a skyrocket. when i rooted my wifes SR I did the all in one package. My opinion is just unistall rom manager and reflash cwm. then reboot into cwm and make a nandroid backup. although in theory your backup you did with rom manager is good forever unless you delete the file under /clockworkmod/backup.
miui+siyah = beast
OP, if you ****ed up probably the easiest step of the process(after all in one of the stickies it says DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER, as so), rooting your phone is not for you.
Either that or you're trolling.

Reading through this made me confused. But to the OP. Mod Manager is fine. You can use that to install CWM recovery. Just be sure to chose the T-Mobile SGSII version of CWM when it asks.
DO NOT USE ANY OF THE ROMS IN MOD MANAGER THOUGH. They are built for the SGSII phones. You can however use Rom Manager for all other options such as installing roms through SD, fixing permissions, and booting up into CWM, etc.

Using the stock kernel. I rooted with DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su. So I can do the uninstall and then reflash CWM. Do you have a URL handy for the reflash? Don't want to make another error.

Probably the part about what else he's supposed to do. If I knew, I'd tell him. I assume he should read the whole thread in dev about how to get CWM installed through recovery but I'm just a novice. You might have been more helpful but I see that a lot of you are too busy hanging out in in dark closets having sex with your phones... tin foil hats and all. I know it's a pain answering the same questions over and over. I've provided support on a lot of boards and on a lot of subjects. When I got tired of typing the same answers, I started keeping them all in a text file so I could copy and paste them, links and all. That way, the info is spread all over the place and new users don't have to resort to finding the single "needle in the haystack." I know the L33T (do they still use that term? It's been about 20 years since i've seen it... probably for the good) love to repeatedly type "DO A SEARCH." Why not just help. If you don't want to and only want to maintain being L33T... do it elsewhere. You serve no function other than stroking yourself. I hate the "slam the noob" mentality. We were all one at some point. Merry Christmas.
The confusion here is that the OP posted this in the i777 forum. The i777 CANNOT use Rom manager to flash recovery and they have to use a cwm injected kernel.
The OP needs to learn where to read about his phone and remember what model he has.

[Q] No recovery after OTA kj6 update....HELP!

I have rooted 2 different phones after the OTA KJ6 update. I rooted one phone with super one click 2.3.2 and the other using doomlord_v3_root and both phones sends the error:
Can't access
csc/ tmb....file? I tried flashing just the csc file using odin but it just soft bricked the phone. Can anyone help with this? I can't get either phone into recovery
I'm pretty certain that being rooted just gives you the ability to push the files needed for recovery to /system... Or, you could flash a kernel with cwm recovery

That "can't access CSC/TMB" error is normal, at least for me. As for getting into recovery, it's different once you flash the Gingerbread boot loaders.
Power off the phone. Hold the volume up & down buttons at the same time. While doing that, press and hold the power button. Once the "Galaxy S" screen shows up, wait a second or two and you'll notice that screen gets a tad bit brighter. When that happens release only the power button while continuing to hold the volume buttons. You should get the recovery screen after that.
I know how to do download mode and recovery, and all that guys. I'm not a noob, I have just never posted anything. But I get stuck because on Froyo (rooted) the 2nd option on the recovery screen it said "reinstall packages" and you choose that one...blah blah blah....well on Gingerbread recovery the 2nd option on the recovery screen is "apply update to sd card" and that option takes me to files, and I can't find an update.zip anywhere in recovery or on the sd card or on the phone. And I keep getting the following error:
--Applying Multi-CSC...
Istallng Multi-CSC
Can't access to /system/csc/TMB/system/
Successfully applied multi-CSC.
What am I doing wrong? I know it has got to be something simple (hopefully), it usually is anyway. I appreciate yalls time.
Have you tried using Odin to flash a modded kernel? It will give root and cwm recovery which hopefully you will be able to access.

I have actually, I flashed KJ1 + voodoo (Dr.honks kernel) and my phone doesn't act stable on it. I installed Busybox and everything but my phone does crazy stuff like shut off randomly and freeze up too frequently.
Is root your goal? Because your title states no recovery which is the reason you received the responses you did.

Yes I have root, sorry if I'm misleading....that's kind of why I haven't posted anything before...don't wanna crash and get burned on here, ya know
You have root. You know how to get into recovery. What is your question?

i can't get voodoo, or clockwork recovery. I can't flash anything, the recovery that is shown is the stock recovery. It's almost like I'm missing the update.zip or something. I posted what it was doing, is it not clear? I know it sounds crazy, I've actually never seen this before.
Odin a modded kernal as said above.

I'm going to attempt to clarify things here, so forgive me (and correct me) if any of this is wrong
- You updated 2 different SGS 4Gs to KJ6 (2.3.6) using Kies Mini
- Both phones are now rooted
- You tried using drhonk's KJ1 kernel on at least one them (which gives you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix) but it was unstable
- You WANT to have CWM vs the stock recovery
What is the current state of either phone with regard to what ROM & kernel are on it?
If you're at stock 2.3.6 (KJ6 ROM) and you were having issues with drhonk's kernel, you can try one of bhundven's [Heimdall][One-Click][UVKJ6] The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection [12/11/2011]. The latter of which on that list will give you root, CWM, and voodoo lag fix.

Note the link that lumin30 gave is flashable via Heimdall. I used it to flash onto my phone and the kernel works great. I'm currently running it, as a matter of fact.

Oops... I flashed it in CWM. Kernel does work great. Though bhundven recommends flashing Beta 2d until he releases his new version. Both kernels have worked great for me.

No oops, you can flash it either way. I had just installed stock 2.3.6 and didn't have CWM, so I went the Heimdall route. I didn't try Beta 2d, I went straight to Beta 3. I dig it.
I think he recommends Beta2d because of a deepsleep issue draining battery for some people.

I get that same error about CSC. I think everyone does. Note that it says "Appling" not "Applying" LOL. Don't think that has anything to do with your problem.
Also what OTA 2.3.6 update? I thought we all had to use Kies Mini to put the stock update on? Or is that just a Tmobile USA thing.
Correct both are rooted...well correction I had to flash one back to stock because I messed it all up playing with Heimdall, so now only one has root. But yes, both are running KJ6 2.3.6 (only one is rooted with the "not working" recovery) neither one has voodoo as of right now. Both phones are giving the same error "cant access to /system/csc/tmb/system/" (even the one that is not rooted). Yes I want cwm or voodoo either one, but I've been experiencing the unstableness with voodoo. On the phone that is rooted...yes it goes into download mode and recovery, but recovery doesn't have an update.zip to flash, so therefore, I can't flash anything. I don't like using custom kernels (although I have found KG4 is probably the most stable), I just wish I could root my Gingerbread and actually be able to use recovery to flash, and fix permissions, and all that good stuff. I don't know what I did wrong. I'm not a noob, I just have never had to actually post anything on here. I find little things all time that ain't right, or just don't make sense about my phone. But I usually either fix it or live with it. But this one has got my brain boiling! I can't figure this one out. I know there are alot going on that doesn't make sense at all, I wish a magic fairy would come in and fix both phones like they just left the store so I can start all over and hopefully not run into this problem....anyone know of any fairys available?
Having CWM or the right recovery you refer to is a modded kernal. The stock kernal gives you the recovery you are seeing. The update.zip was on froyo. Now you just need to ODIN the modded kernal we keep telling you to do. That will give you CWM or the right recovery to flash away with. ODIN A MODDED KERNAL. Take your pick. I recommend bhundven as he is active developer and updating his work. They have worked great for me. No problems.
