I have searched for ENDLESS hours how to unroot my g2. I want to unroot it and return it to gingerbread 2.3.4.....!!!
I have tried EVERYTHING, and I'm stuck.
I encounter many problems such as
-When I try to boot through boot recovery and it loads the PCIMG10.zip file, it doesn't let me update it! It loads it, and it just goes straight back to the boot loader screen
-When I try to change my build number from 1.22.531.8 back to 1.19.153.1 it never changes. I hex edit the misc.img file, but when I open it, the hex editor reads it as already 1.19.153.1, even though my phone says 1.22.531.8!!
Somebody please help me!! I've tried tons of tutorials, ones with and without using ADB
bump!
Can someone please help me?! I haven't found a way to unroot my phone and I'm extremely desperate!!
SAME PROBLEM!!
i have double checked after i apply the new misc.img AND IT IS 1.19.153.1
100%
Once i try to apply the PCIMG10.zip my phone returns to s-on but the update fails!
then if i check the hex it has returned to 1.22.531.8???
I Have re-rooted to s-off and tried again....AGAIN...and again making slight changes along the way yet no success??
WTF AM I DOING WRONG???

Hi there, can someone help me!!!
So here's my situation:
Not Rooted German G1 with 1.5
first time it booted in 1.5 i checked the box for always using dxtop as standard homescreen. well this was quite stupid, as the screens loaded up but without any icons or anything, couldn't even get into the settings screen...
i just figured i'd reinstall the firmware -> BRICK
now G1 only boots into the recovery screen and when i try to reinstall 1.5 it gives me this message:
E:Can't symlink /system/bin/bugreport
E:Failure at line 626: symlink dumpstate SYSTEM:bin/bugreport
Installation aborted.
any ideas
problem is, i think i could save my baby by installing a root firmware, with goldcard, but i don't have any way to read the CID from a sdcard... so I'm stuck here.
I'm thankfull for any help!!!
What you should have done is a wipe. In fact I would try that even now. From the recovery screen do Alt+W. See if it boots properly. If it still boots to recovery, you can try the update again but I doubt it will work as it is probably looking for the previous version of the firmware.
First thing,
you haven't modded your G1, so you MUST have warranty. Send it to t-mobile.
If you use the goldcard, you loose your warranty.
So think about it first.
A PCI-Cardreader and Ubuntu to read out the CID should do it. But it isn't easy! Or borrow a Windows Mobile-Device from a friend.
This is the easiest solution.
If you have no friend with a WM-Device (Or no friends... ) you could ask someone here for borrowing you a goldcard.
I have one, but actually I need the Stick for my PSP..
Hope that helps.
you bought the g1 on rc9 or u updated it manually to rc9?
its not a guarantee..
but try to reinstall the rc9..so change your update.zip files again and watch if it goes?!
Thanks everyone, now i tried allmost every signed firmware version out there, but nothing worked. seams like the updater won't let me install a smaler version then the one installed... Well I go to the elecronics store today and see if i can get them to let me read out my SD's CID on one of their G1s. should tae care of the problem...
just wondering, you said that you couldn't get icons to load, i can potentially fix that, and it says the install aborted which means it didn't flash. is the phone loading to the home screen?
Did you ever just try uninstalling dxtop through adb?
Hi everyone. I've searched for an answer to my problem, but haven't found anyone with exactly the same issues I've been having loading a custom splash screen onto my phone. I'm currently running the Revolution 4G ROM. I've tried the "flasher" program, I've used the appropriate adb commands, and I've even tried an alternative method of loading the splash1 image file into the data folder of the flasher program before using, all to no avail. Flasher says its working, but on reboot, the same old white HTC screen pops up. When I go the command prompt route, I get the following message: FAILED <remote not allowed>. I am 100% certain that I am rooted and S-off, I have full access to all of my programs requiring root and I'm getting the appropriate notifications re: S-off. So what does this mean, and what should I do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You need to flash the Engineering HBoot first.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.p...Flashing_the_Engineering_HBoot_.28Optional.29
When you say you have S-Off, is it ENG S-Off? If not, that would be the problem.
If you followed something like hack-kit, you only have Radio S-Off.
(after I typed this msg, I got distracted, came back, and hit submit. Now I see LGSilva already responded lol. I don't know how to delete this post, so I'll just leave it be...)
Thanks so much, quick and easy!
I have a really strange issue and I've done everything I can think of to fix it to no avail. I'm hoping someone here can give me a few pointers.
I'm working on a Inspire 4G for someone. The issue is that the phone reverts to a specific state no matter what I do. For example, if I wipe the phone, the phone boots back up to Froyo with all of his stuff on it. If I try loading an RUU or IMG file (Froyo or Gingerbread), it will "take" but boot to Froyo with all of his stuff on it. It's almost like it wipes itself and loads this image out of nowhere...
Another weird thing, which may or may not be related, is that I see a weird download in his notification tray. Apparently, the file named "WinBej2Setup.exe" was downloaded twice. I did some research on that and everything I see points to some kind of malware for a Windows PC.
Any and all help is appreciated.
Forgive me if this sounds stupid, but you do have S-off correct? I'm not sure about the weird file, have you tried to access it? Also what other roms have you tried to flash? Also what method did you use to root?

I don't have S-OFF. Here's all the bootloader info:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0019
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.06.04.06_m
Emmc-boot
Dec 27 2010, 14:47:30
As for the file, I'm not sure where it's located. I can only see the notifications that they have finished downloading.
As for the history on the phone, I really can't say much since it's not my personal phone. The person I'm doing this for said he tried to root it using the ACE Hack kit and "some ADB commands" and failed. That's all the information I was given.
At this point, I can load anything to the phone but it will just revert to Froyo in the exact state that it's currently in.
For example, I just tried installing Gingerbread via the official RUU file. It goes through the entire process without a hiccup. Then it reboots and takes forever to load; but when it does, it's back on Froyo with all the owners files...
Personally I would root it, make sure s off, and make sure to format the memory card the corrrect way also.
Then I would install a custom rom.
And the file you speak of is also a game called bejewled. My girl loves that game.

This p-o-s I'm addicted to, and my woman is jealous of.
Reformat the sd card then do an official upgrade thru HTC. Go to the website and download the Gingerbread RUU and HTC Sync. If this doesn't work, complete the root process as suggested.Tell your friend you can't install exe files on Android. They need to be apk files or zip files if installed thru recovery.

I appreciate the advice guys, but I think you guys are overlooking what I'm trying to say... I've already tried running the official upgrades from HTC. The RUU says it's completed fine, but on reboot, I'm back on Froyo with all the same stuff on it.
I've even gone as far as extracting the IMG file out of the RUU and loading it through the bootloader. If I do this, it does the same thing-- says everything loaded fine but reverts on boot back to Froyo in the same state it was in prior.
I can temp root the phone using psneuter but that's about it. I have no idea how I'm going to achieve S-OFF if everything I do is wiped on reboot...
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to lock the entire phone down in a state where nothing can be changed; and if so, is there a way to disable this feature.
Are you sure you do not have a file on the root of the card named PD98IMG.zip? You may be installing this every time the phone boots.
How can you install a non RUU ROM when you have s-on?
Something does not make sense here. Also the exe file you talked about has no use on android as android can do nothing with it. Where do you actually see it?
Go back to square 1. What ROM is on the phone now? Do you have clockwork installed?
I'm not sure how to many different times/ways I can explain the same thing. The phone is on stock AT&T Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3). Currently, there is no custom recovery and it's not rooted.
The issue is that the phone always reverts (almost like it's doing a nandroid restore in the background) during boot to Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) with all his stuff on it.
I've installed Gingerbread 2.3.3 (2.47.502.7) via the official AT&T RUU file
I've extracted the PD98IMG.zip from the Gingerbread 2.3.3 (2.47.502.7) RUU and loaded it via bootloader
I've installed Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) via the official AT&T RUU file.
I've extracted the PD98IMG.zip from the Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) RUU and loaded it via bootloader
I've done a factory reset from within the phone
I've deleted user data & cache with the stock recovery
After performing each and everyone of these steps, the phone hangs on the white HTC screen while booting and eventually boots up to Froyo 2.2.1 (1.80.502.3) along with all the guys stuff on it.

I agree completely; however, the issue I'm running into very unusual. With that being said, I'm trying to point out anything unusual that I notice with the phone. This file most likely has absolutely nothing to do with the problem I'm encountering, but I mentioned it just in case.

I wish this was the case; however, this wouldn't explain why all his stuff is still on the phone... The only time there is a PD98IMG.zip on the sdcard is when I put it there. Even so, I would have to boot the phone into bootloader mode and go through the prompts to get it take. More so, even if I did do this, it would just revert upon rebooting (hints the problem).
I appreciate the help but I think the problem is a little deeper than what has be presented.
That clears it up for me. You obviously know what you are doing. You mentioned "wipe" a few times which confused me. Didn't think there was a way to actually wipe it without a recovery installed. Sounds like one helluva confusing issue there. Goodluck.
Its always going to revert back to the previous state because its still s-on.
You need to get s-off before anything will change.

This I know is not true-- You can load signed code with S-ON. If what you said was true there would be no way to load an official RUU or OTA...
I appreciate the help, but telling me to get S-OFF (which I've clearly stated that I'm unable to do) is not getting me anywhere.
Is the original ROM branded? Have you tried installing a PD98IMG.zip from a gold card? Just a thought.
Hi to all, i'm jauffre and i'm new in XDA. I have a problem and, as i searched all the forum without finding an answer, i need your help.
Last week i rooted my htc incredible s using the revolutionary tool, wich upgraded the hboot to 6.13.1002. i installed with the clockwork mod recovery tool a modded rom, and it was great. but sunday my phone crashed to the ground, and now the cover is broken (so i need to send it to the warranty).
i spent last day searching a guide for dummies to unroot the phone, and using the signed RUU (downloaded from this site) it appeared to work, but my htc is still s-off.
now, i know i need to downgrade the hboot, and i tried everything (i reinstalled froyo, updated the radio and then updgraded to 2.3.3), but this is still a problem.
please, help me!
Hey guys, this is the procedure i did to solve my problem. do it at your own risk.
first of all i must say that with this process i'll have the hboot back, but NOT the bootloader (so when you hold "volume back+power on" you will see the modded bootloader, not the stock one). i don't know how did you rooted your phone, what programs did you use, and i cannot assure you this procedure will work. if you're not sure, don't do anything.
first, you have to look for the original RUU of your phone (you can find it on this site). then follow this thread to find the rom.zip file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=790022), where you can find several files. you need the android-info.txt and the hboot_xxx.img files.
open the hboot.img file with a text editor; in the first line you can find many strange symbols, and after that there will be a string of numbers (that is the hboot version).
you have to know what version of hboot have you currently on your phone (if you used the revolutionary tool, it will be probably 6.13.1002) and simply change the hboot.img string so that the release number is higher (than the modded hboot; i.e. you can write 7.09.0000).
after that you have to make a zip file with the android-info.txt and the hboot_xxx.img file you have just modified, and if you have an incredible s, call it "pg32img.zip".
if you have another device, simply you can turn on your phone in the bootloader mode, and if there's a memory card the device will look for a file, which name appears (it's the code you need).
then put that pg32img.zip file on the root of your sd card, reboot in bootloader mode (volume down+power) and follow the instructions to do the upgrade. after that, if you restart in bootloader, you'll see that the hboot version will be 7.09.0000 (the same you wrote) and will be s-on.
now, search and download the latest version of "superoneclick" (an application that should root and unroot your phone), and start it. link your phone to the pc and start the unroot process.
when it is done, simply leave your phone linked to the pc and start the RUU.exe file you downloaded. start the update process and if you have done everything good, at the end you'll have your phone with the stock hboot and the s-on.
i'm not a serious programmer, i simply was really lucky (i really didn't know if that could have worked) but i did it. i don't know how did you do the root, and how does the superoneclick work, so i am not responsible for any bricked phone.
if you are not sure, simply send your device to the htc assistance (better pay than have a new paperweight).
good luck
download superoneclick select unroot and uninstall the superuser app.Oh and download and flash your phone's stock rom
ok, thank you for the help!
there's a little problem: at the end of the superone process it says me "superuser not found", so it can't be deleted.
so i remade the root (using superone) and unrooted; then installed the RUU, but nothing: it's still s-off. what can i do now?
i tried to make superoneclick work, but with no success... although i have installed the superuser.apk, the program still says me there's no SU, and can't unroot my device.
Any suggestions?
ok guys, i did it...
first i remade the root process, and flashed the superuser.apk. then i wanted to "upgrade" the hboot, from 6.13.1002 (revolutionary) to 7.13.0000 (simply i changed the 1 to 7 opening the hboot signed image with a text editor). then i launched superoneclick, and started the unroot process. at the end, i launched the signed htc RUU with gingerbread, and now i have my htc incredible s with s-on and hboot 1.13.0000.
=)
the last thing: does someone know hot to put the original htc bootloader?
cant someone build a uniform high performance rom
i added a guide to do the process go to the first post and read it all
thanks for the guide, just one confusion here, that after putting the pd****.img into the sdcard, i need to goto bootloader right? (not recovery)
Edit: worked in first attempt . Just one suggestion if you can replace word "Recovery" with "Bootloader" inorder to avoid confusion for other users
thank you fshami! i just corrected the guide
Hi I just tried following the guide posted on the first post using the android-info.txt and the hboot_xxx.img files received by the OTA update released recently as well as one downloaded from the net "OTA_Vivo_Gingerbread_S_hTC_Asia_India_2.12.720.5-1.36.720.1_release_190041sn70bk4icw74exvv"
On both occasions the bootloader update failed.
I am unable to install the OTA update. This has been downloaded quite a few times already and the phone just hangs with the android logo screen.
P.S. My phone is an Incredible S purchased legally in India around June 2011.
Thanks.
then put that pg32img.zip file on the root of your sd card, reboot in bootloader mode (volume down+power) and follow the instructions to do the upgrade. after that, if you restart in bootloader, you'll see that the hboot version will be 7.09.0000 (the same you wrote) and will be s-on.
Sorry my friend , but this donĀ“t work....
Sorry.....
I thought this is what I was searchinf for years but...What if I have an USB issue? Like usb brick? So I cant connect my htc with the pc x.x for superoneclick

The best place to start would be to RUU your device. HTC makes a great, easy to use utility to restore your phone to stock. If you get the right RUU .exe for your phone (it depends on your CID, MID, and currently installed version).
Search is your friend. All of the information you need is on these forums.
