I had the fresh evo rom and went I switched to the cyanogenmod 7 rom (the latest one) I did a backup of my old rom and everything but when I installed it I didn't wipe the cache and data, and phone is stuck on the cyanogen loading screen...tryed taking out the battery and turning it back on multiple times but it just won't get past the loading screen the arrow keeps going around in circles... when I try to hold down the power and up volume key my phone just vibrates 3 times and nothing happens, is there any other way to fix my phone or factory restart it or anything please I'm in much need of help guys
im pretty sure you need to wipe the cache and data since your switching from a sense to asop rom. thats what caused me to have a boot loop when I switched. try popping the battery out and putting it back in. hold the vol down button and power on and restore to your nandroid backup you made, if you try flashing cyanogenmod again, be sure to wipe data and cache

I hope you've figured it out by now, but if not, you need to hold power and Vol Down to enter bootloader, Power and vol Up won't do it.
But none the less this is the EVO shift forum not EVO

Also do you have CWM 3 (hint:has the orange on black text)? Because you can't flash Cyanogenmod 7 on CWM 2.x as it doesn't support formatting partitions in Ext4

LOL, that was happenning to me recently (sometime yasterday). I thought that was it, the end of my Inspire, and I did VOL UP+POWER , I even trying to hook up to pc and redo the rooting, wouldn't work at on. Then google is my best friend , VOL DOWN+POWER got me back to Recovery mode, I will remember for the rest of my Android phone's life
that takes me into regular recovery not clockworkmod
Do you see an option that says Recovery after you get into hboot?

Also, make sure you don't have a PD98IMG file on the root of your SD card or it will always try to install that and not let you select recovery from the options. ( this happened to me multiple times before I realized what was going on.)
Hi,
My Inspire is now stuck in a cm7 bootloop after I messed up flasing cm7 to it, and I can't boot into recovery now. I take out the battery and restart it with power + vol- down, but it just loads back into the bootloop and there is no way for me to access any recoveries or the main screen. Is there any way I can completely reset my phone from my computer? It seems like that is my last resort now, so if that is possible I would be completely willing to start over from the beginning with rooting and flashing. Any help is appreciated.
Also, my volume rocker has not been working for the past few hours, and I have no idea if it was broken originally (I doubt that) or if it was broken after a bad root or something. This is the main reason I need to reset it from my computer.
Also, my phone is not being recognized by my computer when I plug it in. The more I think about it the more I realize that I'm probably screwed, so any advice to the contrary would make me love you forever.
try with the power cord attached, holding the volume up,power on until the red led starts flashing, then remove the battery put the battery back in, press the power button. for me this got it into recovery. good luck
Thanks for the help, but it didn't work. At this point I'm just looking for a way to reset it from my computer and start completely over. I don't care about any data or apps I had on there, and I don't even care about the root I had. If anyone knows ANY way to reset my phone back to factory settings (or if AT&T does this) please tell me.
If you vant get your computer to recognize your phone then you cant restore.
Some att stores can do it, but remember you have voided your warranty.
What recovery version are you using? If its an older version then you can plug the phone in while it is off, and it will boot into recovery.
How long have pulled the battery for?

Recovery is volume DOWN plus power for 5 seconds, bootloader its volume up plus power...
Try putting CM7 or any other ROM on your SD card via your computer, using a card reader. Then boot into recovery (volume down plus power), wipe data/cache/Davlik, then install from zip. That should get you up and running.

Hey, first time posting anything here. i have an HTC Inspire 4g and i rooted it and installed the RCmix3d Bliss sense 3.5 ROM. Everything worked perfect until this morning i woke up to a black screen. everything was fine but, the screen wouldnt turn on except the lights on the touch buttons. I took out the battery and restarted but nothing, eventually it showed (Once) and i thought everything was fine but when i put it to sleep and the screen wouldnt turn on anymore.. i came home and did something(i think) very stupid and tried to attempt to re-root it and now the lights on the touch buttons dont light up. i can tell its on because i have 2 text messages and the notification light keeps blinking. I also tried holding the volume buttons and power, it vibrates and the notification lights turns green and just stays that way.
Please if someone can help i would really appreciate it. I love this phone and its not going to be easy to replace...
Thanks,
AMiiGOE
P.S I read that leaving it without the battery for 12hours will fix it, and im doing that now.
I would boot to recovery and perform a wipe then reinstall the rom.
If you deleted the files, you can mount the sd within recovery to get the files back on the sd card

Np..
1. Turn phone completely off
2. Press and hold volume down and power for a few seconds. You should see the white background with colored text.
3. Select recovery
4. Make sure the rom or any rom you downloaded is present on your sd card..
5. Select install from sd. Card
6. Browse to where the rom is, usually in /download file, unless you moved it to the root directory
7. If the zip file IS there, let's try reinstalling the rom before doing the other fancy stuff
8. Assuming you are still in the directory where the zip file is for the rom you are flashing, select that zip file by pressing the power button when it's highlighted (navigate up and down with volume keys).
9. Select yes you are sure you want to whatever it says..
10. Wait for it to complete, hopefully it says the rom installed correctly.
11. Go back to the first recovery menu _ you should see back arrows at the top.. Select those arrows until you see an option to reboot.
12. Select reboot
13. Profit?
If this works, then you are golden.. You may want to see if the rom you are using is over clocking the cpu - your cpu might not like to be o/c
Let us know how it goes!

Hey, i been trying to research all day and no go :/ ... thanks for the step-by-step but im not sure if im explaining myself very good
my phone is completely black. i used this link here to root it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
when my black screen was going on for the first time, i went home thinking if maybe i try n re-root it itll fix. well now im not sure if the process got interrupted but now its only black. no lights on the touch buttons and now i feel its getting worse and i really hope im not losing this phone :/ ... nothing shows at all no more. when i take the battery out and put it back in, i can turn it on (it'll vibrate once) but thats it... nothing more. again when i take out the battery and insert it back, if i hold the up volume key and power, the led notification light will flash orange and one vibration pulse will occur and the led will keep flashing.. holding it down, it'll just vibrate.. nothing on the screen shows anymore.. i want to call HTC but im not sure if i will be able to replace it :/ and im not sure if they can tell that its rooted..
Tonight i just pressed the power as if i were turning it on, and i will leave it over night to see if miracles happen..
please if you ANY suggestion, im alllll ears .. i hope to maybe solve this and learn my lesson to just not root it no more lol
Thanks AGAIN!
So when the phone is off, and you press volume DOWN AND POWER SIMULTANEOUSLY for a few seconds what happens?

Thanks!

so it wont wake up. Well i would pull the battery then put it back in. Now hold the vol button down while pressing the power. Now you are in recovery. Wipe everything (partition, data factory reset, and dalvik located under the advanced menu) now relash the rom or another rom. Make sure you download a rom and place on the sd card first.

is it completely black? or it shows htc then fades to black?
Did you hold volume down, tap the power button without letting go of volume down, keep holding volume down until the htc logo appears?

Replacing hboot may fix it. But if your board is going bad it will probably happen again. I would just replace it while you can. Refurbs aren't bad, especially if they are in better shape than your current phone.

I am rooted and unlocked. I was running CM10 and tried to flash Lean Kernel on it (I have never tried to flash a different kernel so I have a feeling this is where I went wrong). After flashing the new Kernel, the Samsung Galaxy SIII boot logo would appear, then go away and leave the hardware keys lit up. Now I can't get any activity out of my phone other than when I pull my battery and put it back in. When I put the battery back in the phone vibrates, the red LED comes on, and I get a battery logo with a loading circle then the screen goes black. I have tried booting into download and the bootloader but gotten nothing. I have never been able to boot into bootloader using the power and volume down, I've always had to go to the restart menu. My battery was fairly low (about 10%) when I tried flashing the kernel. Is there any way to fix this?
I have a CWM backup as well as TiBu and Nova Launcher backups. Please help!

To boot into bootloader using the power + volume down + Home button.
Volume Up + Home + PWR = recovery
Volume Down + Home + PWR = download
Push and HOLD each button in the above sequence.
I think Lean Kernel is for ICS/TWiz only.
Get into recovery and restore your backup ...

Ok, so I've tried booting into both modes and it's not working. I'm thinking that in the process of my phone not working that the battery died... If the kernel is bad then the phone won't charge, correct? It's been a while since I've had my battery completely dead, is the battery with the loading symbol in it the indication that the battery is dead?

I have it on a charger right now and have had it there for about an hour with no success. I'll let it sit for a while and try the process again in the morning. If this doesn't work, are there other options??
Edit: If I get a new phone, will restoring using the CWM backup restore my app data and such?

I would let it charge to full, then pull the battery, let it sit for a few hrs the give it another try. You have to call Verizon service for replacement if you can't get into recovery or download mode, probably the best way.

Ok, I'll let it charge while I sleep then try in the morning. Luckily I have the Best Buy protection plan so I can get a new (or refurbished) phone for free. Will restoring the CWM backup restore everything (app data, etc)? I'm assuming I'll need to root, unlock, and flash CWM onto the new phone.
Thanks for the help.
good luck
