[Q] LCD Density (Not Rooted) Want larger size - HTC Sensation

Just got through installing all of my apps and so far the Sensation looks and runs great. I do have one thing I cannot resolve. With my HD2 I used LCD Density and set my density value to 240 and it was a good size for my old eyes. However, apparently it does not work on my Sensation. I have looked all over, but cannot find any way to change the LCD Density unless I need to set it above 240. Anyone have any info on this. I m running:
Android V 2.3.4
HTC Sense V 3.0
SW # 12.45.531.1
It is T-Mobile. Any help appreciated. Yes, I did do a search and found 5 Threads, but did not find an answer, unless I did not understand what was said. Thanks in advance.

As far I am aware, the sensation is already running at 240 dpi.

You are correct. However, with my HD2 240 was what I set my HD2 to and the icons were larger. Maybe I need to up it to 260? I will try that. Thanks!

That did not work. Apparently, phone must be rooted.

Sorry if this comes out sounding wrong, but why do you need to change your LCD Density. If you know "WHY" you need to change it. You should already know how. This process is not for people that do not know what they are doing and should not be done unless you have a good amount of experience doing so, as messing with the file settings could brick your device, or send you into a boot loop. Hope for the boot loop. But i won't be responsible for telling the masses how to do it. If you really think you need to do it. Answer the question of WHY, and i'll message you. or you can google the process.

Once you do adjust your settings, you will find that your phone keypad layouts are not adjusted to fit your new screen size
This is my question to older members
How do you fix the phone keypad layout and other screens that dont fit?

The apk has to be decompiled, scaled and recompiled to fix the resolution change. Once again, this is why you don't just change the screen resolution because someone said it could be done. We usually change it for a specific reason.
Humble 1.3 comes with a LCD density change and I don't notice any issues with layouts.

Hey guys. Thanks for all the info. I am running the latest humble froyo and lcd was set at 200 which affected the dialer screen and such. That's the only reason i switched it back to a density of 240. Thanks for the help.

Whats the right lcd dencity on lg g2x?

I been using 192 with some app on the market but it was too small on that density. Then i tried 240 and it was to big.
So, whats the best density to choose.
And after that market kept saying in the updates that its not compatible with my device..
Its the density has todo with that??
240 is the regular screen size I believe.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
you believe correctly, it is 240
Edit: forgot to mention to try 220 if 240 is to big. Everything works if someone knows certain apps that wont update, please tell.
Ok yall i would try that.

Tell me what you think. I just switched to 220 to see how it is also. Don't really mess around with it much but I think im going to keep it this way.

I iust change it to 220. It looks like the same density as 240.
Have tried any other?

I tried manually, some apps just don't
work.

Are u sure it didn't change anything? It looks completely different for me. How did u switch density, app or build prob? I used build prob.

you are better off keeping the density at 240. When you change it, the market will not let you download certain apps because it changes the screen resolution to a tablet type res. It is a bug with the market.

Go to 200. There's an app called font changer that also allows you to conveniently change the screen density, it's what I use.

I had my density at 215 for a while and last month i tried redownloading facebook and a few other apps and it said not compatible with device. It is quite annoying, google responded to users complaining about the issue and they basically said that we shouldnt be altering our phones. Oh well....

LCD Density Change

Coming from the epic touch forum. Switched to skyrocket yesterday. How many people adjust there screen density to a lower amount to make stuff smaller more like the galaxy nexus screens. Currently im at 160 and think it looks good. Just curious if anyone else is dropping it?
I change mine 192. I found that to be the best for reading and using gingerbread keyboard. I've noticed Swype and the Samsung keyboard resize well at 160. what keyboard do you use?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
Im running Quiz's Rom that has the Ice Cream Keyboard and it seems to resize really well too.
Theres no point to changing your LCD density because if you do nothing in the market will work for you.

Actually a few density apps do it in a manner that does not affect the market.

Actually that's not true... While I don't know of any LCD density apps that don't affect the market, there is a workaround that seems to work pretty well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21899025#post21899025
Just follow the instructions and hopefully it will work for you too... I've updated my programs and installed a few that weren't letting me before... Soo happy I don't have to reset my LCD settings everytime I want to update an app or install something new...lol
That's bs I use LCD density and I'm using 720p settings...I download any and everything no problem. Some apps won't display correctly but most do. I am using latest skyicecream rom and go launcher with all Widgets. Fixes little issues with displaying apps. Man I thought it just resized things to appear at different resolution but after trying YouTube videos like big buck bunny in HD at 720p density it is like night and day clarity...I mean you have to see to believe....download LCD density and watch big buck bunny normal then change density to 720p....go back to YouTube app and watch it again...your jaw will drop I promise....

190 is my sweet spot, haven't had issue with market yet as with other settings. Agreed, text looks good 190-100

That's very nice for you but there are a lot of people that can't install things from the market when changing their screen density... I had quite a few apps say my phone wasn't compatible while the density was changed and were fine after I changed my settings from the post I linked to...

[Q] Adjust Font Size on Nexus 4G

I've searched threads, and across Google and most all point to the same result. I'm trying to shrink the font size on Gingerbread. I switched back from ICS due to the battery issues I was having and ICS let me adjust font size without problems.
Modifying the density with the root programs made my market screw up and throw me the error " This app is incompatible with your device". Changing density back fixed the issue. Is there another setting I can add to build.prop that can adjust font size? Has anyone had any luck changing font size without changing screen density?
Spare parts will let you change font size.

Thanks, The pro version or regular? Regular only seems to work on the spare parts screen and nothing else. I remember that app working for me when I had my epic, strange.
Not sure really. I only have used the one included with roms which I'd assume is not the pro version. Did you reboot after changing it? I haven't changed it in a while because I found the default font size was good enough for me. If that isn't working I'm not sure if there's any other app. Perhaps you could use rom toolbox to change fonts and get something closer to what you desire.

ADW Screen Realistate

So our device is 480x800, but with ADWex you obviously lose some space.
Does anyone know what the usable area is? So if I were to have a 10x10 grid, what would the dimensions of one cell be?
Devide 480 x 800 by 10 I guess.... Although it should not matter. I have used adw Ex @ 10x10 for a long time and never noticed real estate loss. If anything it gives more room.
It's not so much about what's lost, but I'm trying to figure out each cell size to aide in widget design. It's not simply dividing by ten, tried that, can't seem to figure out what it it's tho.

Not sure if this answers your question, but I reduced my pixel density to 210 (from the default 240) and have ADW set at 5x7.
The Sky ICS 4.2D-9 thread has info about using ROM Toolbox to change pixel density and then using LCD Modder Pro to fix the market so you still see all apps.

If you don't want to buy the LCD modder pro (I did ) there's a thread here where I guy did the exact thing that app does! Also he says the newest version of the market doesn't have compatibility issues!
