I have had this problem since it asked to update the other day so i let it update. And ever since that i can use it no problem but as soon as i leave it idle on the table or my pocket i hear the start up tone. I pull my phone out my pocket or of the table it has restarted.
I mean i can use it as long as i want not a problem but as soon as i leave it alone it keeps rebooting by it self a few times then stops until i next use it and put it away.
Has anyone else had this problem or is it just me..
I'm from the uk by the way thanks..

After update i have regular restarts, but i do recovery(soft reset and power+home+vol.down proc.) with data cleaning plus formatting internal sd, and now i didn't have any restarts form few days. Maybe try this, and let us know is it help, because many users of O3D has this problem.

I am running on v10J Australian Optus Stock, I have excactly the same problem as you, I have my wifi on always and that made it worse, I have read that by deleting the Cache and delvic cache that would fix the problem, I have done that last night by installing rom manager and did it that way, been 1 hour so far since I unplugged it from the charger and no reboots, yesterday it was rebooting nearly 3 times an hour. Also I downloaded an app called CPU Spy, it tells you the speed history of your CPU, I tried setcpu to stop the cpu dropping below 600 mhz thinking maybe that is the reason of the reboots, the thing is although I have setcpu on hotplug and never to go below 600 mhz, cpu spy is still reporting the cpu dropping to 300 mhz.
will post an update to tell if clearing the cache and delvic cache have fixed my problem.

Unmount external SD card, remove it, then reboot. It's a workaround rather than a fix (as you're stuck with the 8GB internal storage), but I've had no reboots since doing this, compared to one every 2-3 hours on v10k before.

Well I had the same problem and had sent the phone to service. They changed the mainboard but the problem remained. This is an external sd issue as it happens only when there is an external card mounted. Now sent the phone for the second time indicating more details on the micorosd issue. Hopefully they will change it completely with a new one.

still rebooting
phone still rebooting, woke up this morning and the battery counter was on 45 minutes, which means the phone restarted 45 minutes ago (did refresh so now I took out the sd card to see how that goes, I have kingston Class 5 32 gig, if that is the case, this is bad news, being stuck with 8 gig which I only half 2 gig empty is a joke. Will give it a try before jumping to conclusions. will keep you posted.
Someone in other forum noticed that when turns on auto sync and background data may leads to the reboot as well. So I turn it off and since doing this, so far I have no reboot issue from yesterday.
I have also upgraded to v10K but I' ve had my phone randomly rebooting when idle even before that. I called the customer support service and they told me that it might be an incompatibility issue with my SIM card (I also had a problem with my SMS delivery report option being ghosted). They said that the card I had was 2.5G and I needed a true 3G card. So I followed their advice and got a new SIM card from my provider. I have no issues with the SMS delivery report now, but the random rebooting goes on...
I do hope that the Gingerbread update solves this.

Reboots = Restarts
Our phones restart by themselves! This is what this thread is about.
Dear Friends,
These issue occurs with latest 10j and 10k firmwares... If WIFI sleep policy is set to NEVER (always on) then you probably get random reboots... As mentioned previous post, you have to set WIFI sleep policy to WHEN SCREEN TURNS OFF (always off) in order to avoid random reboots... Till now there is no workaround for this issue and lets hope LG fix it in the next rom...

I took the phone to LG service center today, I was told that my Phone is faulty, that is why it is rebooting, they are going to replace the motherboard, I did ask the serviceman regarding the wifi issue in relation to the recent rom upgrade (10J), I was told that there is nothing wrong with 10J or 10K. Will let you know if the issue still exist after the repairs, the phone will be ready for pick up on Monday.

I set my wifi to sleep when the screen is off, but I still get reboots unless I manually turn it off (I have Viber installed and I suspect it keeps wifi alive to stay online, which makes perfect sense).

Hi guys,
I have a unlocked and rooted Nexus S i9023 bought around last week. Since then, I have experienced my phone freezing a couple of times already.
It happened to me at least 2 times on stock rom. And another 3 times on custom rom.
It freezes not during usage but during sleep mode. There will be times when I try to use my phone and I realised I cannot 'unsleep' it. All the 4 buttons at the bottom will be lighted up even in sleep mode. So usually when I see all 4 buttons lighted up in sleep mode it usually means it's frozen already.
Is this a common issue for Nexus S? Or am I the only one facing this problem?
Is there anyway to solve it? Or it is a hardware problem and I need to send back for repair?
Thanks for everything in advance
Are you on Android 2.3.3?
Yes I am. On GRI54 to be specific.

It just froze again. This time with WIFI tethering on.
When it froze, I realised I can still surf the website i'm currently on (which is xda-developers) but i cannot surf any other websites. Such as google etc. My laptop still shows that its connected to wifi after it froze though. Just that I can only surf one website.

Hi There,
Mine did this before but never on stock. I found going into recovery then Formatting Cache/Data/System and Dalvik cache then flashing the ROM solved it for me.
Another time I've noticed this is when I overclock the processor too much.
Mine happened on stock before, without overclocking.
Before I changed to custom rom (SuperAOSP), I wiped data/cache/dalvik cache
And the problem still arose.

It could well be hardware related then, try doing the above as I mentioned and see if it fixes it (it won't wipe your sd storage unless you select that option) if it doesn't I'd suggest you get a replacement
Will try that again and see if it works. Thanks.

My Motorola Triumph keeps randomly rebooting and the battery goes from 90% to 7% suddenly sometimes. I had the phone for a week so far and the frequence of restarts is increasing. I don't have any task killer app.
Is it some software that I am using or it's a hardware issue? Do you think I should have the phone replaced by Virgin Mobile?

Try charging it all the way and using cwm to wipe the battery stats. That should fix the battery drain. The reboots I would try wiping Dalvik, cache, and last first data if the first 2 wipes don't help at all.

I just figured out the problem has to do with wifi. When I turn it off and use 3G instead the mobile becomes stable (so far). Is anyone facing the same problem or it's just me? Is there a fix?
Does it have a custom ROM on it? I've seen around the forums that there has been issues with the MT and wifi on the ROMs

No. But the frequency of the reboots increased after I re-installed the original MT stock ROM.
When I first bough the device it restarted once or twice a day. Now it reboots non stop unless I take out the battery. I re-installed the stock ROM from another source but the problem persisted. The problem goes away when I turn off wifi abut comes back when I turn it on.
Sounds like something to do with the kernel, not the ROM... maybe. I had horrible luck with any and all custom kernels for a long while. Although that's just my luck, might not be yours...
Looks like you had a problem from the beginning... Try everything stock, and if it's still there, return it... Wow my first post in years...
I know someone who had the same problem..
switched to the iPhone 4s...
Same here...
Me too...
I have this problem as well. I am going to try the CM7 mod to see if that goes away. I have also isolated it to WiFi.

Wohooooooooooooo The problem DOES go away with CM7 beta 8 !!!! It's like magic!
Phone no longer reboots randomly
Wifi is stable and does not disconnect or cause the phone to reboot or the battery to heat up
And battery life improved 300%!!! I now charge it every other day with moderate 3g/wifi usage!
I had CM7 for three weeks so far and my frustration turned into happiness! It's just amazing how changing the software makes a HUGE difference!! Before CM7 I always felt like smashing my MT because of the hard time it gave me!
I followed the instructions on: http://www.motorolatriumphhacks.com/

as far as ive seen with both cm7 and cm9, random reboots houldnt be an issue anymore, but for other still having the issue it usually comes from about 4 things over the rest
1. faulty hardware, which normally isnt the case, if faulty hardware was the issue you'd probly be seeing more then random reboots, but its still possible
2. Rom didn't take correctly during flash, either by chance, or because the phone wasent properly cleared and now settings are "head butting"
3. Running a custom rom in which you can adjust the cpu and the settings are either to low or to high, both can cause reboots
4. Most common one ive seen by far outta them all, Apps, certain apps especially after some updates will "play tricks" on the device and for some reason cause reboots sometimes, usually the next update of said app will resolve the issue but not always, so if you find an app thats the culprit you can notify that apps developer
you can always try and go back to 100% stock and see if the issue is still there but if your like me you probly hate the stock froyo by now lol
It may seem painful or whatnot but unless you find exactly what may be causing the reboots the best bet overall would be
Do a complete Fresh install of whatever rom you use, dont flash anything besides the rom and gapps if needed, also dont restore any backups yet, just to be sure
Once the fresh new rom is booted i turn the phone off then back on for safe measures lol
Now if you can lol try running the phone with No aftermarket apps besides any/if any that came on the rom, if the problem is gone you know for sure here that it was one of your apps
then 1 by 1 install your apps and give it some time in between app installs to see if the problem comes back and hopefully this way if it does youll know which app is causing troubles
FAQ
To quote directly from my FAQ,
"Reboots on Android are a pain, and can be attributed to multiple sources. I’ve been able to successfully reduce the amount of reboots that I get, but never eliminate them… Anyhow, here’s some troubleshooting information:
1. Format SD card in Windows (back up your SD card data first!) Make sure you format to FAT32. Don’t try formatting it in Linux. I have done this before and the phone wouldn’t boot up!
2. Slightly overclocking prevents some freezes.
Under Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Performance overclock the max speed to around 1300-1400ish. This should speed the phone up, but not to the point of the thing overheating
3. Fix SD Card permissions. Do this by booting into Recovery (You can do that if you have this ROM installed) and go to advanced > Fix SD card permissions. Now reboot.
4. Do not use Firefox, except the Nightly builds. Firefox has went through drastic speed and performance improvements recently, but the older builds, despite being called stable, are so slow, they will make the phone freeze and reboot. Yes, this includes Aurora. UPDATE: All Firefox versions except stable (ironic, eh?) have been used by me personally and have not made my phone reboot. Make sure you’re on at least version 14. (This one doesn't apply as much anymore, I need to update my FAQ!)
5. Give the phone a break from time to time. After intensive gaming for hours on end, the phone will often reboot while exiting a game.
That’s all the tips I have. I managed to drastically reduce my reboots by doing these, but not eliminate them completely. I hope g60madman or mantera find some hidden timeout value in the kernel (if one exists, like the auto reboot on BSOD in Windows) and either lengthens the timeout value or disables automatic rebooting so if this is a kernel panic, we may see the debugging details and upload them to fix some crashes.
6. Make sure that you have the VM heap size set to be adequate enough. I recommend at least 24 MB, preferably anywhere from 32 MB and up if you want the phone to last a while without rebooting.
7. Sometimes a cache wipe and dalvik cache wipe are needed to stop bootloops. Unfortunately, every once in a while, you may start getting bootloops. This usually due to some sort of corruption in the cache or dalvik cache. You can safely clear them through Clockworkmod Recovery without loosing any data, and this usually fixes the problem. If not, do a factory reset through Clockworkmod Recovery and reinstall this ROM."
Hi everyone, for who is suffering with this problem, here we go, let's FIX IT !
First of all, this is not a 100% sure fixing method, but I want to work with you people of XDA in order to solve this problem.
WHERE IS THE PROBLEM ?
I discovered that the problem is in the manageing of the wifi during the deep sleep.
When the phone is sleeping, if for any reason the signal is lost, and the SII+ trys to reconnect to the access point, here we have the SOD.
This happens only during the deep sleep.
SOLUTION
So I think how to avoid this situations. A solution could be to set the wifi policy, in "Wifi Advance", when the screen is off to NEVER and check the option "Check Internet Connection", reboot and done.
I'm using this simple configuration since 2 days and it seems that the SOD are gone. I'm not sure about it and i'm writing here because I want to share this solution whit everyone.
So please try and let me know here !
THANKS !!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
Try app form Google Play, WAKE MY ANDROID PRO, i mean it solve SOD on my SGS2+
Fantastic, thank you! Let know if sod problems happens again. I downgraded my s2+ to 4.1.2 because in this version I never had sod problems but if this works I will upgrade to 4.2.2

Currently 9 seconds, auto startup and low wake
It works but this method drains a lot of battery
It's been a month since I started to talk with samsung of this bug. I took my phone to the rapair center for 3 times and they tried to change the motherboard, the PBA of charging (another logic board), and then at the 3rd time I ask for a substitution with a new one, in particular with another model, as is written in the warranty. But the headquarter of Samsung italy said that my phone is fixable... I know it's incredible, even after changing almost 2/3 of the phone they didn't grant me the substitution. Fortunatly the technical rebuilt a new 9105p for me, because he understands my irritation. Now, as everything i tried didn't solve the SOD, i'm trying the last possible solution, going without the SD card. Probably the phone during his common life cicle, fail to read or write something on the sd and then it stucks in our SOD.
Just trying this thing, then if it will freeze again, i'll go to them and I'll pretend the sustitution
PS the sd card is a kingston class 4, 8GB, used of 2 years in a smartphone (hungry of space on it), I also discovered an hidden partition of 512mb formatted in ext3/ext4 !
keep you update on the situation

Hello guys
I just finished updating my rooted Nexus 5 to 4.4.3 and it went fine but I immidiately noticed some "problems" when I turned it on. The thing is that my touch screen is not as responsive as before 4.4.3 update. On 4.4.2 scrolling was flowy and smooth like on ice, but on 4.4.3 I got big delay (half cm of emptiness) on scrolling through gesture (apps, home or anything..) and, even worse, when I'm scrolling down my Contacts list it dials randomly due to a lagging. Is there any calibration to be done or that's it?

It doesn't sound normal. Mine is working just as smooth as it was on 4.4.2. Have you tried wiping the phone? Do a factory reset and see.

my battery went from 19% to 0 over night.... in airplane mode. previously, it would only use 3-4% overnight, esp with everything turned off. almost woke up late
also, im having a hard time answering phone calls. i slide to answer, it doesnt answer but its still ringing
I noticed that there is a bunch of different problems reported last two days and I have decided to wait for Google's response on all of this mess. But I must say that my phone is working better now and somehow it heals itself )) Maybe this update is about implementing some organic components

I also got a big issue on 4.4.3. since the update i get sponataeuos signal dropouts especially when i travel by bus or train.
It seams the radio has problems by logging out at one cell and switch to an other cell. Also the reception/signal is very weak.
Someone noticed the same? or does anybody has a tip?
thanks in advance :good:

For battery drain, install an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats (it's free demo version is available on XDA) or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm
Observe your device for one day after complete charge (90+) and use it.
Using that app, you'll observe the apps/wakelocks which are causing unnecessary battery drain. Eliminate them or post screenshots here so that we can help you to solve battery drain issue.

First thing to do if something is broken after an OTA is factory reset to see if it is an OS bug or whether you have incompatible data and settings.
It sounds like it would be a pain to do, but you can easily backup with helium nowadays so it needn't be

what if i like the current mono toned google dialer?
when i get this update & it updates the dialer, is it possible to un-install the dialer update to revert back to the older dialer?

Did you flash the userdata.img? If not, your data is still there and still possibly causing the issue.

Yes I did. I flashed the image with the 'flash-all.bat' method which includes it [emoji17]
I've had a few random reboots in the 6 days I've owned the phone. Most of them were in the first few hours so I just checked it up to my new phone settling down.
So when I got one out of the blue this morning I started to wonder it any of you have been experiencing this.
So please if you did or do get random reboots. Leave a comment so we can keep an eye on it.
BTW it might not happen before your eyes but if you have to put in a pin to get it an you did not schedule a reboot, it was random.
Let us know.
After the latest update i have random reboot as well daily once... Mostly when it's goes to sleep..
I have Uninstalled all the bixby remap applications... Let's monitor for today and see how it's going...

I have had about 3 random reboots so far. still on stock firmware, no updates available for me yet (even though it's sim free). I just put it down to bugs that should get ironed out with updates.
Thanks guys. Good to know I'm not alone. Let's keep an eye on this.
None so far here before and after update.

You never noticed having the volume notification out of the blue even though you did not power cycle your phone? The whole reboot can't take more than 20 seconds. It's mad fast. You won't notice it unless you're actually holding the phone when it happens.
This an issue on the F models?
Can you give us some info?
Which version is your s8? Is it from at&t?
This was happening to me. So what worked for me was moving all the apps I had on the SD back to the internal storage. The app that was causing my reboots was p
Facebook pages. But I changed them all just in case. Since the 0 reboots

Which variant?
None for me but my S6E had them so much I had to return it. I installed an app called reset or reboot counter. The worst day I had something like 130! It would kill the battery too
I had twice since I bought my s8+ exynos model.

AT&T
Had same issue
My phone would randomly freeze once a day then restart. The reason for the problem seems to be the update that patched bixby from being remapped.
I'm using the Sprint Variant of the Samsung Galaxy S8+.
I have seen two fixes for this issue. The first solution which worked for me was to clear the cache in recovery (boot holding power, volume down, and bixby), I did this three times as if it was a rom. The second solution is to back everything up and do a factory reset.
Random reboots....I had lots

Yes, I had a big problem with it rebooting the 2nd day after I installed all my apps. It would reboot 3-5 times in about 4 hours. I called Samsung support and they had me wipe the cache and told me if that didn't work, do a factory rest. After the cache wipe it rebooted on it own 1/2 hr. later.....not good. So then I went back and moved all the apps that allowed me to move them to the SD card, back to the internal storage. The problem went away, no reboots for 3 days...none! So then I started to move the apps back to the SD card, one at a time, one only per day. On the fourth day, fourth app, the phone rebooted by itself a few minutes after I moved the app to the SD card. I've seen several web sites that it may be a problem (software) with how it deals with the SD card, but other users have reported the same issue and don't use a SD card. Hopefully Samsung is looking into the matter.
