Hi there.
Can anyone tell if current update 2.3.5 with sense 3.0 will be the last version of android supported on desire s?
I would be happy to see, that desire s would have ice cream sandwich.
What do you think?
I think, that it will get update to sandwich
There's still 2.3.6 and 2.3.7, also ha .. ha ha .. HA ha .. HA HA .. at us getting ice cream sandwich before January, and even then .. officially ;-).
It wouldn't be good from a business perspective, HTC would profit more from putting a lot of efforting into preparing it to run on a new handset and launch it with huge advertising, while still keeping people hanging on knowing they'll get it in the ETA or "proposed rollout" of 3 months .. then testing .. then sign off .. then rollout .. you see the picture ;-).

Think it will be up to the chefs to get us ICS
Considering that the OEM's & Google have agreed for a 18 month time line in providing updates to their devices.... the Desire S eventually will get the official ICS - OTA (may be late) . . .

No sane company will ever keep the old products update for that long, if it is launching new ones at the same time, don't you think? This is people to get paid to support something from the last year rather focus on today. But we have our devs here and I am pretty sure that we will have ICS on our devices when it arrives and basically do not care is it official or not, now I am much happier with my "unofficial" ROM than with the Stock that came with my saga

Totally agree, the un-official ones have less bugs for a start! Wouldn't surprise me if we see sight of it in time for Christmas!

Is there any conformation that LG Optimus 3d will get the next version of android. If yes then when ?
OMG!!we are waiting for Gingerbread and you're thinking about IC
Some rumors say that the update will be IS and no more gingerbread.. im not sure though
You can make sure that even in unofficially, the ice cream sandwich will exist for o3d. I know it because the omap4430 will be the ooficial chipset for ICS.
at this rate, we get icecream on 2013

No way will we get IS from LG because it wont even be on the optimus 3d 2

I am sure that we will get the update because it is the update that will give the full power of the device as ICS will support dual cores fully, so with dual core and dual channel we will get much much better performance. The question is when? Actually LG should know that if they want to success in smartphones market, they should give a good support and they should beat all other companies, sonyericsson learned the lesson from their experience with X10, now they are on the top of companies that give the best support for their devices, I hope that LG learns the lesson and became the first company that rolls out ICS update(Which is not expected ).

Isn't it a bit late for LG too still be on a beta of Gingerbread in October. You would have thought they would be way past that stage by now. It'll take even longer for it to be released now.

It would make a lot more sense for LG just to go straight to Ice Cream Sandwich as they've left Gingerbread so late to be released.
I think it would be very very poor of LG if they don't even bother to release Ice Cream Sandwich at all. Do they want there reputation to go down even more.

I totally agree with that. If they are not able to release the GB this month, it's better to drop everything and start with the IC update.
It's been said that Google will release the update on Q4 which is very close now, so LG' better put themselves together and work harder, otherwise next time I buy a phone it won't be from LG.
Dear Friends,
Lg O3D is very smooth and 3D is really great with stock rom and even faster with custom roms. I am already satisfied with Froyo since i can run almost all the apps but some games related GB and some frontcam based apps. Yes, GB or ICS are really welcome but i can live with Froyo since not so much complains on performance and usage...
Kind regards

I know that many of us have been following development of ICS for our beloved Sensations... They have announced the release in early 2012
After providing a vague answer regarding which devices would receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, HTC has just released a full bore list of the first devices that will see the update. The great news for T-Mobile fans is the knowledge that both the HTC Sensation and HTC Amaze 4G will see Ice Cream Sandwich. HTC says that the update will come in early 2012 and that we should “stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details.”
We can’t blame HTC for not offering up a solid timeframe considering Google hasn’t released the update itself and we imagine once the carriers get their hands on a final build they’ll be in a better position to provide a solid timeframe. Still, we’re thrilled to see that T-Mobile’s top HTC devices will see the Ice Cream Sandwich update and hope that it makes their owners happy too.

Umm why did you not just post this in the thread that has been going for almost three weeks now on ICS on the sensation. i mean it has been covered there and another thread that was started today. Plus we just needed a link and not a copy and paste post of it. I am not trying to be a downer just reminding people of the forum rules on starting a thread is all.
you can like slap him for saying that.
Kinda weird, this article. ICS just came out, what's the problem with having to wait a few months? It won't be outdated in February, it'll be the current Android version then too. And this press release of HTC means that they're working on bringing it on Sense right now.
If you've ever had an LG phone, you'd know that 6 months of waiting and empty promises of an upgrade is no big deal. And if you've ever had a Samsung, you'd know that getting ANY official confirmation about any possible update would already make you lucky as hell.
HTC is being very fast here, and to me it just seems like these people are never happy. If HTC announced ICS was coming next week, everyone would be whining about how it seems rushed and how buggy it will be..............

The CEO of Notion Ink, Rohan Shravan, is at it again with news about the Ice Cream Sandwich source code release, saying it will be released November 17. While it's tempting to just toss this aside as another rumor in the ICS/Galaxy Nexus craze of late, Mr. Shravan has a track record that shows he's usually right. Last year, he did the same thing with the Gingerbread release, accurately predicting more than could be a good guess, and just last month he told everyone about the OMAP chipset and Ice Cream Sandwich using them as a reference platform. When he talks, it's always worth listening, and the Nov. 17 date has already been thrown out there as the European release. If we see source code on the 17th, the 18th is going to be a very fun day for a lot of us.

No, the ICS Source Code will be made available to the public on Nov 17th. This means that Developers will be able to start working on ICS for a specific device. The advantage here is that the SGS II has a huge fan-fair also is quite open with development and has kick azz hardware, hence it will most likely be picked up for development right away with results to show soon after.
I won't lie, after reading this, I got really excited. For the past few weeks, I've been using MIUI, but once a stable ICS ROM comes out (I'm hoping/guessing CyanogenMod), I think the pure AOSP experience will be even better
Released or not ive been dam patient about ICS to come out. So dam patient that ive past my time by continuous amounts of games on my Galaxy SII!!

We've all been patient, and regardless of whether it's Nov.17th, or slightly later, ICS is coming soon, and it will be a whole new level of operating system
Personally, I've been passing the time with Shadowgun on my I9100 (thank you Chainfire3D )
Wait a minute, Google are hosting a big Android event on the 16th! Good chance that that means they'll release the source code the day after the event, or on the day (if we assume the difference in date due to time zones). This adds a lot more credibility to the idea
I am a bit concerned about the date that Samsung is going to release ICS for SGS II.
Wouldn't this still be unusable on our SGS2 unless they release a device with proper drivers for the mali400?

Regarding drivers there is not going to be any big changes from 2.3.7 to 4.0. So it wont be a problem. Official drivers may be more optimized .

I think that's a lot of wishful thinking to expect it this month, at least a stable build for us to use on a daily basis.
I think Mid DEC should be a good time for a decent build, permitting driver compatibility and the Source Code release is on the 17th.

Jeżeli informacje zostaną oficjalnie potwierdzone, model ten przejdzie testy pozytywnie, prawdopodobnie Ice Cream Sandwich pojawi się pod koniec lutego.

According to @HTC_NL, the sensation range of devices will receive the ICS update soon (before the 1st of March). On the 1st of March an ice white sensation will be released in Holland.
Link here (it's in Dutch of course): http://www.whizpr.nl/persberichten/8268
Article from tweakers.net (source):
HTC provides users of the Dutch Sensation, Sensation Sensation XL and XE soon an update to Android 4.0 ICS. On March 1 also appears that a white Sensation Android 4.0 already installed.
To update existing devices called HTC no period, the manufacturer has only said that "soon" will take place. The update was on the air offered to users. It is still unclear whether the devices with the update to ICS also immediately be provided with Sense 4.0.
About new features in Android 4.0 version of HTC Sense is still little known, HTC has just announced that shortcuts at the bottom can be adjusted by the user. Recently there appeared images of the new version of Sense, showed that the appearance, colors and screen animations differ from both Android 4.0 and the current versions of Sense.
HTC Sensation spent the last year in June from 2.3 with Android. Last autumn there were the Sensation XE and XL on the Sensation. The Sensation runs on a Qualcomm MSM8260 dual-core SOC running at 1.2 GHz. The GPU is an Adreno 220. The phone has a 4.3 "LCD with a resolution of 960x540 pixels. The camera has a maximum resolution of 8 megapixels and shoots video at 1080p with 30fps.
The manufacturer will this spring, next to the white Sensation, presumably releasing new models. These will most likely at the Mobile World Congress telecommunication fair, which takes place later this month in Barcelona, are presented
Nevermind, HTC has clarified that the phone will be coming with 2.3 and will be upgradeable to 4.0 ... lame.

This would be awesome, as they would release kernel sources with this phone which might be compatible with the original Sensation/Sensation XE... which would allow better custom kernels for ICS which is the only thing wrong with [email protected] at the moment! (apart from the *few* minor bugs )

There will be not ICS on 1 March, on XE White. R u blind all? Read!
Update: HTC just wrote us to say that its original press release was incorrect — it'll actually ship with Android 2.3 and be upgradeable to 4.0 down the road, just as its other Sensation versions will be. In other words, don't expect an ICS-equipped Sensation on March 1st... but you can expect a white one with Gingerbread. Furthermore, the white Sensation is already available in select markets, so the PR is simply announcing its upcoming availability in Benelux. Now, the question becomes: how much longer is the wait for the upgrade?

Yes how retarded of people not pre-emptively predicting an updated article.
Take a chill pill.
Im seriously not impressed with the way HTC are masking ICS, AOSP ICS is a beautiful thing, so can sense be, but htc have gone about it all wrong with sense 3.6 and 4, I think im steering away from HTC slowly but surely, and can almost guarantee that I will be going AOSP ICS when it is stable!

A chef here has to make a rom which is pre made and stable and tweaks it. If it works for 99% of the users it's good. Htc has to release a rom which work for 100% of the users.

You forget that it isn not just a phone software that they need to update and polish, they need to sort out all cloud services that their ecosystem is all about (eg facebook for HTC, watch, hub, likes etc).
I would rather wait a few weeks to get a finished product, than have unpolished system that has memory leaks or whatever...
You forget that average user doesn't want to mess with rooting and flashing and they even don't know about that alternative (and/or care) so they cannot and will not flash new "xda" software when official rom "breaks"...
Very true, didn't think about that.
