Ugh. This is so annoying. I have a HTC inspire all stock. Just the newest update from ATT. Also when I got the phone about 2 months ago I purchased a 16 gig class 2 sandisk SD card and had this error over and over.
So I formatted it in the phone and had zero issues for a month. Now today we went on a trip and I used Google maps with navigation and once I got to my destination and closed out maps and did other things on my phone all of a sudden guess what came back. Yep. SD card removed. This time I received it like 5 times. The last time I pulled both the SD card and battery also I uninstalled the update to Google maps and so far its fine. I just wish they would freaking figure the problem out I'm getting annoyed with it.
Anyone else have this issue yet or a fix for it?

That is pretty dang weird! I have a bone stock Inspire as well. I am using just the 8 gig class 4 SanDisc card that came with the phone and have not had that problem. However, I have not used navigation and only use data when I'm on my home WiFi network. Sorry I can't help you further, maybe one of these other guys on here will be able to help you correct it. I would say try backing up the entire SD card to your computer, to back up all you files on it, and try reformatting from your computer. When I say from your computer, I mean take it out of the phone and get it connected directly to the pc. If that doesn't work, I'm all outta options. Good luck, and let us know if that works or not.

Yeah I will try it when I get home on Sunday. There are a ton of posts on googles site for developers with this same issue across a ton of other phone manuacturers. Some say its 2.2 issue but idk. I am so mad now its doing it again. Now I can lock the screen and 20 minutes later ill unlock and it does the SD card again. I managed to unmount it before it did it again. I wish Google would fix it.
Here is the post I'm talking about. I know it says LG ally but if you see all the posts there are a lot of them different brands.

Whenever I used weatherbug on my Inspire, I was had the SD card unmount problem...
Hmmm. Let me uninstall weatherbug its worth a shot. I have had it on my phone for a few weeks now without issue tho.

I would wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the slower data transfer speeds of class 2 flash media, but that may only effect the ability to record 720p video.
Hopefully it's a REAL 16 GB card from SanDisk, and not a counterfeit card.
Well I deleted weatherbug app and no SD card inexpecdly removed error. Oh well that's weird. And its a real card I purchased it at Hastings in Richmond ky.
Also slower speed hasn't effected anything. I recorded some videos of my son playing and it was just fine.

I used to have that issue all the time when I was on froyo. I haven't had it at all on gingerbread. I think it is an app2sd problem in froyo.
i saw something similar but with the sim card...
i think it was the door
Well the error is back. God this is annoying as Hell. Once the screen locks when it goes to sleep I guess it comes right back. I tried installing contract killers this morning and it caused it to do this again. So I deleted it and it won't stop....

Do you happen to be running the "Flight Control" game app? It can do strange stuff if you leave it paused for too long (forcing a battery-pullout).
nope no flight control app... well i had to back up my photos and videos online so i can format the card in the phone.... its been about 30 minutes so far so good.. i hope this is fixed... sucks because i lost all my progress on all my angry birds games and everything lol...
Still getting this crap. It's fine unless I access the card on a game. If I play contract killer the first time I open it works fine. But if I close and go back it will say checking integrity of the file it will close out and POP up the sd card error. You guys think heat can do this? It was fine till I drove with maps on and the battery got warm. I just wonder if the card is going bad?

Ok so weird. Now that I am home with a WiFi connection I havent received this error at all in 24 hours..... ugh of course when I was in the woods (literally) this past weekend it flipped out and almost messed up my whole weekend. Now I'm home its fine. FML

Well that's pretty strange..
Do you get the same sort of problem if your phone is in Airplane mode?
Do you have a mini/micro SD card reader for your PC (or another phone) to try the card in? If so, maybe you could try playing a large video file directly from the card, just to see if stays stable.
Yeah I can try that today. That's a good idea never thought to do that. Now airplane mode I never tried but so far its been two days and no sd card error. I do know I am going to start backing that Dang thing up from now on tho after this.

You may want to root and install a gb ROM. There are a bunch out there.

I have a problem with my phone. It keeps turning iteslf of all the time. I cant even start it now without turning off. It is working when I have my charger in the phone. But without it it last no more then seconds.
I took the SIM-card out this morning and now the phone is normal, no shutting down? Whats wrong with it? I have tryed installning new ROMS, from endymon to cynagoen 9. But the problem is still there.
The SIM-card is working fine in another old SE-Xperia-phone, so it seems to be working fine there. Please help!

have tryed without SD-card but still the same problem, but you think a reformat can do it? Just copy all files to computer and back again on the card?
no, you said before that without the sdcard your phone was ok, but now you're saying contrary. if the problem persist even without sdcard in your phone, than reformating your card won't help.

Sorry, I have tryed both without the SD-card and the SIM-card. When the SIM-card is not connected to the phone its way more stabile. It has turned off 1 time during this whole day, and with the SIM-card inside, its turning off all the time.
When I had the SIM-card inside and took the SD-card out, the phone turned off as fast as with the SD-card connected.
Is it clearer now? =)
sorry, i mixed sim & sdcard...
NP...hope someone else may have a solution, clearly the phone seems to be working, but shuts itself off because of the SIM-card, that is working fine in another phone...

say that your sim has broken down and ask from your provider a new sim. Iphones also have this kind of problem....let me quess,it works like a charm with others sim cards?
edit: and of course with transferring your number so you don't have to change
Try to get a new sim card from ur provider, sounds like the sim card could be faulty, every sim card may look the same and work, but like my situation with my phone. I had to replace my sim card so i got it replaced and now it works.

Some other options? Have tryed to change ROM again, no luck with that either! :/

Try to provide logcat!
Maybe that could be helpful?!
adb logcat >logcat.txd
While the phone booting!
A lot of helpful information could be found!
I have the same error! It happened after I opened it and replaced the Display. I thought that I damaged it somehow and I bought a Desire S on eBay with a broken Display. At first I changed the SIM/SD-Card reader, to see if it was damaged, but it had no effect, it still shut down. So I replaced the whole Mainboard, and it worked! But I had to reopen it several times, because I forget the speaker, the cameras (front and back) seamed to be broken, the vibration unit didn't work properly.... it was awful! This mobile was a pain in the ass!
Finally, when I thought everything should worke, I started it and it had the same problem again!! With the new Mainboard! I almost exploded :silly:
I can't imagine, that I somehow damaged it twice the same way. Maybe the camera is damaged, but how could that effect the SIM Card....
Has anyone an idea? I can't be the only one with that error...
Best,
therox

AHH! ****, you were right! It seems like ist really was just the battery! After I replaced everything I must have switched the batterys, and the phone keeped rebooting. Now it workes... oh dear...
Thanks you guys!
Mine also has problem with this; Previously Airtel, Aircel Sim card are working fine but now it suddenly shutdown as soon as it is in the desktop. Only vodafone SIM card is working flawlessly. I also suspect it could be the Radio Version.
I have noticed that some of my calls are not coming through. The past few days people have tried to call me, but said they got a busy signal. The phone never even rang. I also got an email today from a potential employer who said they called twice today... The phone was sitting on my desk right in front of me all day, and nothing. Is this happening to anyone else? What can be done to fix it? Im not in a place where im not getting service so I dont understand why its doing this?
Also, the other day I was having car issues and needed to call someone, when I went to call someone the phone showed the dialing screen, but never started to ring. I tried hanging up and redialing, but nothing worked. I had to shut down my phone and restart it. I can only imagine what would have happened if I really couldnt call out finally....
Really starting to hate this phone.

It sounds like a reception. Do you have good signal? What about Wi-Fi calling?
I have never had that and have had nothing but the sweetest reception, I do get dropped calls but that's T-mobile for ya.
All day I have between 3-4 bars of service, so im not sure what the problem is
Im also having trouble calling out. Ill dial the number, and the phone will beep and disconnect the cal. I have 3 out of 4 service bars....

Try replacing your sim card? Or if you're on stock then call T-Mobile might be a hardware issue.

Do you think switching to your rom might help? I want to try it but I'm waiting for the final version. I did have my sim replaced a few years ago by T-Mobile. I know they had to transfer all my stuff on to a new one. I have one laying around, is there anything I need to do to get it to work? Like switch my number to it?
You might want to try cleaning the metal contacts of your sim card with a pink eraser.

If you're on stock I think your best bet is to either get sim replaced before flashing cus if its a hardware issue then you will have to get it replaced.
As for the sim card if it's new then just call them and they'll activate it if it's used before then it won't work anymore and you'll have to buy one

I called Tmobile a few weeks ago and had them activate a new sim card I had. Didnt have this issue until just today when I tried to make a call and got "call ended" everytime I tried to call out. What else could the problem be? Im running your rom now also...
Is anyone else having this issue? Its getting really annoying! I had to dial my friend 5 times before it actually went through.

Yeah, I just didnt want to do the "call tmobile and sit on the phone with them for an hour to troubleshoot" crap... Ugh...
Called Tmobile and they ended up screwing my phone up even more with their "troubleshooting" Told me to do a factory reset, but since I have a custom ROM, it just screwed more up. Now I cant even swipe past the unlock screen and there is no reaction to my touch. At least its finally screwed up enough to get them to send out a replacement. Now im trying to revert back to complete stock so I can send this one back to them when my new one arrives. So I guess problem solved in a way..

Hello everyone,
im new here,
I just bought Nexus S from some1,
it had a problem which later showed up.
The touchscreen works all by itself suddenly,
the left part of the screen is misbehaving, it starts touching on screen when its not.
it was on GB when i bought, then i updated it to ICS to see if the problem gets fixed but it gets more crazy, now updated to Jelly Bean, worked fine for a while, but now again its starting.
Any help will be appreciated
I think it is a problem with your touch screen hardware and not the android software. That being said, unless someone else has had the problem, no one can really help you.. Personally, since I've never heard of this problem, I'd recommend you get it repaired, even if it costs some $$. Hopefully someone else who has had the problem can help you out, but until then, best of luck!

Already tried all flashing. nothing helped.
but recently i did some wierd things with phone,
i burned my nexus s screen side, not actually burned it, but kept it to a distance from fire, just to heat it up,
i thought if there was any moisture that was causing the trouble might end up from burning,
after the phone cooled down, i placed battery and started phone..
wow amazing... it worked fine!!
but in the next step i inserted SIM card, i was going happy and was thinking "oh yes... saved the day!!!"
but boom, touchscreen started misbehaving again!!!!
i removed SIM card, but problem persists!!!
sad...
but i tried again,
removed battery and sim card,
burned phone again with more temperature as i was angry, wanted it to burn completely, but i guess i saved it.
now currently, without the SIM card, phone is working perfect as it was.
I dont know wat it has to do with the SIM card or burning
any1 knows wats its problem?? how can i use my SIM card with phone now???

can any body help me on this issue?
miracle happened

Problem is back... and i think i found wat is troubling, its the SIM card, when i insert SIM card it does troubles, but when i use airplane mode, everything gets better.
tried different SIM cards, but no change.
so guyz tell me possible fix of the SIM card?
noticed another problem,
phone takes a very long time to recharge
and when i plug the recharger, sometimes battery indicates 10% or more Additional battery suddenly
i don understand wat is the problem?
Battery? Recharger? or SIM Slot??
im getting crazy now!!
Finally Its Fixed without spending any money
it seems baseband was troubling... as it was something like this i9020A this A is meant for AT&T thus its preferred network was WCDMA (my network is only on GSM).. i saw a code to see my phone info.. *#*#4636#*#*
This code showed up a window where i saw a button called radio... i switched it off.. i thought it was meant for FM Radio lol.. but it actually turned off my Cellular network.. i turned it back on and then i saw that the problem was gone... i went to see baseband and now its I9020XXX .. that A is gone..
Issue is fixed but there is one thing i don't understand at all.. how did fixing radio band fixed the touch issue? I think this conflict was causing Operating System to go crazy, hardware was never at fault..it was all software confliction.. I'm very happy its fixed..
If some1 have the same issue go here
*#*#4636#*#* turn radio off then turn on again.. hope it helps..and if it doesn't then at least it helped me

I have a Nexus S and I have the exact same problem since last few days. I enabled "show touche" from the developer options to track the screen touch. Now I can clearly see that one column on the left side of the phone gets a random series of touches (in that one column only) from top to bottom. The issue I think is a HW issue, nothing to do with sim card, or ROM or anything related to SW. I have tried GB, ICS, JB and even "touch" version of the clockwork. It happens even in clockwork. It seems to me that I need to buy a Galaxy nexus unless someone knows of an easy way to fix this.
Same Problem
Hey man,
I got the same problem.
I tried so much things but it's absolutely a hardware problem, I found on the internet that there is some netarchy kernel modified by someone, but that's not up to date anymore. The kernel only works with a old version of android.
I update my android almost every month, it helps a bit but not much.
I am trying to learn all about building and modifying roms and kernels, but that is not that easy as I thought so that will take some time before I can publish a kernel for you.
Maybe if you can building kernels, try it by yourself?
Or google Nexus s unresponsive touchscreen, i found there some helpful answers. But they all not really up to date.):
I hope you'll find a way!
Sorry for my bad English
So I recently switched to the new Baked ROM and everything has been working very smoothly until I had a message pop up saying unable to detect sim card please reboot to connect to network. Ive rebooted quite a few times and the phone will be fine only to have the issue pop up again. Today alone its happened about 5 times I had a similar issue with liquid smooth ROM as well, not as much as now though.I've notice it happens most of the time when I'm in areas that I get a weak signal, is there any way to fix this or atleast insure it doesn't happen as often?
I've reinstalled the ROM and wipe cache/delvik cache and it works for a bit then pops back up.
Thank you all for whatever input you have!

I posted about experiencing this in the AOKP forum. I was receiving a puk error on viper. Att gave me a new sim. From there I started was getting the sim inserted error Reboot. Tried flashing AOKP yesterday to see if that would fix the issue. It didn't. Went to att store today and the only thing they said was asking how I liked 4.2.2. No help at all. I am going to just claim insurance on this phone I guess

Interesting, I just went back to jellybam 6.7 and haven't experienced it. I've used it before and it seems like its the only ROM I can use at this point.
So after some research I found out that the sim issue happens due to the sim tray/sim card not fitting properly so it's not the ROMs that's are effecting it. Simple solution was to put a layer of tape on the front side of the sim card to thicken it. (this would be the non metallic side) and all would be well. I did it last night and went back to the Baked rom and so far no issues in the past 24 hours.

FWIW my hox had this sim card error from one moment to the next but never recovered and no amount of tape or new sim cards fixed it. Its got nothing to do with the roms, its a hardware issue. I left it at a cell phone repair site since i had no warranty on it, hopefully they can fix it. I called att to cancel my line and to my surprise they offered me a warranty replacement even though i never bought that phone from them. If my hox cant be fixed ill still have the replaement coming in but id imagine its got jellybean already so im going to go into withdrawal without a rootable device.
I put tale on the back of mine and it has yet to have a problem for a few days now

I did one small layer of tape and I can honestly say I haven't had the issue since. I was getting the error before on a daily basis at least two - four times a day but hasn't happened since.

Some SIM cards are being manufactured too thin. This has been a known issue since the phone launched. Scotch tape trick or get a new SIM card.
