Did a Quick compare between Iphone 4s and My Stock Froyo Capi - Captivate General

Hi Folks i was at Apple store just abt 10 mins ago, hardly there were people coming in to buy Iphone 4s, so i did a quick compare between browsing speeds of My captivate and 4S and I should say that 4S is faster but not as fast as marketing/tech sites say. i did record the video(i used another iphone sitting on display) but i could not email to mys self as i didnt had a camera. but i did buy a iphone for my GF so will try to post the video. i dont see a good why reason why people should upgrade to 4S.
Video coming soon
see this video a quick compare for drop test between SGS 2 and Iphone 4s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=elKxgsrJFhw

Very Interesting... I went from an Iphone 3gs to the Cappy.. there was NO comparison. especially now that I am running Phoenix. ive been told mine runs smoother than the iPhone 4 my boss has.

Really? The SGS II has insanely improved web browsing over the Captivate.

I dont mean to be THAT GUY, but it's just a given that iOS is going to be about 100x smoother than android, unless you have a Nexus S, which is an iPhone 4 with android on it.

It's basically impossible for web browsing to be much smoother than the SGS II.

i didn't try my captivate while in the store but
i did try bringing up pages on the 4s and the GSII side by side in the store.
They were both connected to wifi rather than 3g so couldn't test that
but i do have to admit the 4s was bringing up webpages faster than the GSII.

Why do people even still care?
I've had my phone for a while, and I'm still a while away from an upgrade.. What good do these comparisons do?
The iphone 4s is a dual core device at 800 mhz. Therefore unless the browser is optimized for dual cores the captivate will theoretically be faster at 1000 mhz assuming both have a stable connection in the same location.
Even if the browser is hypothetically optimized for dual core processing, the gains over a single core processor for a web browser is probably still not going to see large gains.
It's a browser.. not autocad :/

Who buys a cappy/sgs2/iphone4/iphone4s only to brows the web? There are thousands of other applications/uses for these phones. For speed and stability browsing is the least of my concerns. Run a real test, like how well it streams or runs video intensive apps/games, etc.

I can co-sign with MikeyMike that the GS2 has 100x better browsing than the Captivate. I went to heavy flash websites and lagged hardcore with the Captivate. That lag is non existing with the GS2. I can compare this with my laptop in terms of smoothness.

It's a device that runs Instagram which is about the only reason to look at one, albeit a damn compelling one.

If you want it to "just work" you buy a iPhone. If you want to tweak it to match you you buy a Android. I am not sure why people are always trying to compare. btw apple sucks

Its the smartphone that makes their owners feel they are smarter than they really are.

I can only wonder why everything has to be a contest.
I love my captivate, but come on.. it is how old?
Captivate is now low-mid range in terms of price/performance.
Honestly, I really don't mind that it is the low range.. It is still decent hardware which can do everything I bought it to do.
Just seems in terms of comparisons.. you would think people would have gotten bored with comparing it by now :/

It better not have the same lag issues as the current crop, otherwise im not buying it.
If it doesn't have tons of ram i don't want it.
omg it makes me so sad to see this after ive only had my captivate for a month but imagine what the next year or two will bring!
Unless the samoled 2 is also a solar panel, I don't experience the best battery life...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Probably gonna be bogged with RFS and and TouchWiz. If they bork the nexus S with RFS that will seriously suck. I know we can run lag fixes etc. but it would be nice to get a phone that doesn't need to be hacked just top be functional (totally would still root it, but its just the satisfaction of knowing that I wouldn't have to ^_^)
I'd still pick the Nexus S.
If the Captivate has such awful battery life, I can't imagine what a 1.2ghz processor and a 4.3" screen will do to it.
The Google Experience with a 4" screen is my dream phone. The S2 sure does look pretty though.

with all this extra power, bigger screen etc, I couldnt believe what kind of a battery it would need to be HALF DECENT.
Companies should stop competing in cpu wars, display wars etc and really revolutionize a battery that will last at least a full 24 hours with moderate usage.

This isn't fake at all. I have a very good source at Samsung who can confirm this device, although those slides are not final. Like Engadget said, these slides are 100% real from Samsung... they just used an image of a different device to get their point across. Not meant to be seen by the whole world.
Anyways, the device (which can be confirmed real by Engadget, BGR, AndroidCentral) is called the Samsung Elite: http://briefmobile.com/new-samsung-elite-specifications
It is the successor to the Galaxy S line and it's due in early 2011 for announcement.

Sounds reasonable, I was wondering if it's samsung advertising our a mock up of what might come next.
People around here are so argumentative over things where they have no facts. Also I don't get what people expect of a phone, I find battery life between meets expectations to excellent depending on what rom and modem I'm running.
And where did the notion that amoled displays hog power come from? that's the opposite of true, I don't know what the droid x is like but go buy an evo and check the battery life, it's far from good.
I'm excited about the nexus s and hope the rom and kernel port to the captivate, I just wonder if the modem will be a problem, I'm guessing it will be hsupa+ (4g) and wonder if the hardware is the same in that area and if the modem file will support the att 3g bands, or will a froyo captivate modem.bin work in gingerbread? I'll have to wait and see. As for my next phone I'll wait for a dual core device.

Yeeesssss, loft in its beauty. Feel it in your pocket.MMMMMMMMM. So good.
I bought mine on launch, and I still love. My only regret the is potential loss of tmobile, but the FCC seems to be leaning against that.
I really like it a lot. I think it's still the phone I'd choose today if I was in the market again; I've really appreciated the stock experience, especially post-2.3.3 patch, which fixed pretty much all my gripes with it.
I love it, but the only thing that I can think of to change is making the speaker audible when laid on it's back. I had a few missed calls because of this.
I love it. Started off a little bit slow, but things are starting to catch up... slowly.
I never get sick of the phone's looks. And getting the Case-Mate Pop Case made me even love it more.
Edit: Slow as in development.
I love it to death. The only way I would think of giving it up is if the deal goes through. Having a 3g phone with no 3g is lame.

Same with this guy.
my brother has one. ihave iphone 4. last week i bought one. used but almost brand new. not a single cratch with no visible gtid pattern on the matrix pentile screen. it was stunning.
i figured what the hell, i will try it for few days. if i like it, i will keep it and sell my iphone 4. if not i will return it to the store " store owner is my close friend "
so i played with it. i think its awesome. but i gave it to my brother since it was in better shape than my brothers and he sold his phone.
i use skype video calls almost daily. and i play alot of games. i figured i can live without the skype but it was a no go.
its funny how a small things can screw up big things.
all in all i think its one of the best phones in the market. and i recommend this phone over any andriod phone available right now.
unless optimus 2x will have a cracked bootloader, then i dont think any phone coming soon will top the nexus .
right now i am waiting for the xperia play. for the same reason, i play games alo :/

Considering Getting This

I'm sure you've had several threads on this, but should I return my Galaxy S 4G for the G2x? Is that big a boost in performance? I love stock Android, hate Touchwiz, but the Galaxy S has an amazing screen. Also, does the app Wiimote Controller work with the G2x?
Huge boost in performance. The G2x works like "butter" as many have been saying. G2x's screen is amazing, some are saying it's one of the best on the market right now and even outshines some of Samsung's screens. Wiimote does not work YET due to LG adding in their own bluetooth stacks into the phone instead of the more common ones, however it's generally believed that a ROM (Probably Cyanogen) or a software mod will fix the issue. Hope this helps!

I exchanged my Galaxy S. for the T-Mobile G2X. Yes, the screen is a big change, the Galaxy has a much better screen. But after about 10 days, I've forgotten the difference and was really enjoying the speed increase of the G2X. If you think you can get over the change in the screen, go for it, if you don't, you better stick with the the galaxy S or wait for the galaxy S II coming out soon.

SGS2 is almost 2x faster than iPhone 4S's browser

Hi everyone,
I was tired reading on the web that the iPhone 4S is faster than the SGS2, especially in the browsing part.
On BrowserMark, the iPhone 4S makes a score of 89 567 points, and some general computer websites said that the GS2 makes less than 80k points.
I ran the test myself, on CyanogenMod 7 :

I was expecting this kind of question
Sure that Sammy's stock roms are not the best in terms of performance, and they would probably not give the same results in the tests, but at least we know the raw power of the mobile device.
For the iPhone 4S, there is no software barrier, it -should- unleash all of its power since you press the power button. That's especially what's interesting.
Hopefully, the Ice Cream Sandwich stock rom for SGS2 will be as quick as CM7 currently With CM7 lead dev in Sammy's hq, it should be quite well.

OMG Siri is amazing! Yawn..
Apple is so playing catch up now.
Can't wait to see what ICS is going to be like.
I am an iphone guy,but..... still think is pathetic to wait in line in the middle of the night just to buy this phone yesterday. 4s is not worth it, if anyone already owns an iphone 4. Soo what if the processor & memory doubled, applications between iphone 4 & 4s run at the same speed or no noticeable difference. it's a waste of money to upgrade from 4 to 4s just run same apps, do the same tasks, and Look at the same SMALL screen.
As far as the 1080p video stuttering goes; I think that video clip was made biased on the 4S side and believe the stutter was there intentional, just to make make the S2 look better. If there is truly is a stutter on the 4S, that can easily be fixed via updates. My SGS2 use to stutter when recording, but easily fixed by updating, with that said, that easily applies the 4S as well.
I can't speak for iphone 4S, but i personally think Samsung did a terrible job designing the camera with zoomed-in 1080p (thats huge flaw for me), which is the only thing that i can complain about the galaxy S2 and use 720p instead.
Knowing iphone 4S was a bad move by Apple, Don't know why are we having yet another Iphone vs SGS2, when we very well our S2 is already superior.
I m happy
Win Win Win
And i can bet on samsung that they gonna do some nasty things in future updates of android coz they achieved a lot in last year after not good start with galaxy S

You may be right about the 1080p video. I found one that doesn't have the stutter:
This difference between stock SGS2 and Iphone 4S is the used Webkit version, i.e. SGS2 use pretty old version while the iOS and Honeycomb use a newer build. The Webkit is core engine of Android and iOS web browsers.
So, if you look at the benchmark results between 4S and Galaxy Tab 8.9 (Tegra 2 based + Honeycomb) you will see that the performance is equal.
Going back to SGS and Cyanogenmod 7.1 - the Android version is 2.3.7, so I guess this branch contains much newer version of Webkit, which explains the SGS2 advantage.
In brief - both A5 processor and Exynos use ARM A9 core, but they both run on different speed: A5 - 800Mhz and Exynos - 1.2Gh respectively. There is nothing surprising for me that SGS2 blows away 4S in browser tests!
Sorry to burst your bubble. But the stock version scores are something like this.
Waiting for ics to change some things.

SGS2 is still the king, but iOS does it in style, take the notification bar pull down menu, on the SGS2 it just looks like ****, on the 4s it has style
I have both phone. Benchmark doesnt really matter to me but.
In terms of loading pages the iPhone wins by a few second, but only when ,on demand option is on, since it still loads the flash content.
.
After putting flash off, they are pretty mucb equal or sometime vary, depends which ones having a good day. There both great phones afterall.
Cant wait for ICS though
Not an Iphone fan as such but this chap compared the iphone 4s to an iphone 4 and SGs2 and iphone seems to be doing preety well

You realize that's the Tmobile SGS2 which has a Qualcomm and not the Exynos processor right?
The Smartphone envy videos are always better

Hi everyone,
I was tired reading on the web that the iPhone 4S is faster than the SGS2, especially in the browsing part.
On BrowserMark, the iPhone 4S makes a score of 89 567 points, and some general computer websites said that the GS2 makes less than 80k points.
I ran the test myself, on CyanogenMod 7 :
Out beast still beats it by far. The GS2 also makes a greater score in PeaceKeeper (more than 2 times the iPad 2 based on the website's chart).

Which CM7, kernel and browser did you use? I only get about 114000 with nightly 84 and stock browser.

After sgs2 updating to v4.0 ICS......iphone 4s will deffinitely cant even compete with this droid.......coz Android v4.0>>>>>>Ios5............

Swapping back and forth between OSes.

First of all, I'm a die hard WP7 user through and through. Social interaction, stability, and quick gaming, as well as a good ecosystem of interconnected services are what I'm after in a phone, and so it's the ideal option for me. That said, I try to be as fair as possible in my judgment of other devices. I recently picked up a Nokia N9 and an Xperia play as alternate phones to my Lumia 800 (which has since been upgraded to the Lumia 900) for comparison purposes. The first thing I tested on these two devices, since it's the one thing I miss on WP7, is emulation. Honestly, despite the perfect controls on the xperia, I kept going back to the more "pure" Linux experience of meego for emulation. This was due primarily to the app emumaster which has all your basic emulators cooked into one app with great developer support and outstanding framework. The xperia's controls are awesome, but the low quality of the ps1 emulators I could find left a lot to be desired. The feature that Android really stole the show with, was the market. I left android October of 2010 for the most part aside from picking up random great deals on Craigslist. I most recently tried the Gnex, and it seemed to have a lot of the issues that put me on the prowl in the first place still, so I was not smitten. However, the progression of the app market is phenomenal, a far cry from the doldrum mess that I was forced to search through in my time with android. The new Google Play point is great and feels a lot less like a beta test than it did before. While I'll always prefer WP7's dynamic UI, I much preferred Meego's to android's. There are no "official" widgets yet, but even without, the three home screens have all the info you need and the lock screen is great. It offers a, "sleeping clock" feature where even when the phone is asleep, the clock is still displayed, as well as your notifications. After double tapping on that, you have more specific notifications over a background pic of your choosing, you can swipe on any of these to open the app direct, or just swipe the whole homescreen off which leads to the homescreens, one has all your apps complete with folders. The next, shows all the apps you have currently running. True multi-tasking an astonishing 19 apps and no real hiccups. Amazing. Then, there's your notifications tab, it keeps your notifications as well as a list of your social network mews feed on hand. Everything just feels easy and intuitive. Android, sadly, still felt pretty much the same, I guess if it's not broke, don't fix it, but there's better UI options. Overall, the xperia Play got the least play, not because it's a bad device, but it's just not what I need. The N9 is great, but suffers some of the same issues android does. It is, however, a good meeting point between android and WP7 and was abandoned far too early. Neither pulled me from WP7, but unfortunately, I now try to double-tap my 900 to unlock it.

Not sure what the point of this post is.
E; oh, text wall. It looks like copying it misconstrued my formatting.
That should've stuck with Meego. That would've been a real 4th OS.
Nokia can't shine with Wp7.

The Lumia 900 seems to be doing quite well for itself, replacing the iPhone as ATT's hero device. I can't wait to see what the 610 does in India.
I read somewhere that at&t associates doin a disservice for customers. It seems iPhone is still the hero device, salespeople still pushing the iPhone and not giving the lumia900 a chance.
