How to share file on Skydrive and let people edit?? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I dont get it, I just created a MS onenote file on skydrive and selected three contacts by their email who i gave permission to view/edit it..
they got an email from my live ID saying:
"ABCD shared the folder GROUP PROJECT with you on Windows Live. Click Here"
But once I click on it, it takes me to live.com log in screen..
Now they have gmail accounts, not live accounts for their email..
One even had a live account and logged in, but it said :
Error message
It appears that you don’t have permission to access GROUP PROJECT. You might be trying to access it with a different account or might need to ask the folder’s owner for permission to access it.
Plz help.. how to share a onenote file on skydrive so that multiple people can edit it??

I think there is an option to NOT require a person sign in to edit the notebook. The downside to this if any of your friends share the notebook link it can be accessed by others.
Also permissions are managed by the folder the notebook is in on skydrive. A good solution is to create a folder on skydrive. Give permissions to the folder to your friends and move the notebook into that folder.

OutSync - Facebook profile pics for Outlook contacts

I found this amazing application
The following text is taken from it's web site.
http://www.melsam.com/outsync/default.aspx
OutSync is a free Windows application that syncs photos of your Facebook friends with matching contacts in Microsoft Outlook. It allows you to select which contacts are updated. So you can update all contacts at once or just a few at a time.
The main benefit of OutSync is for Windows Mobile users. Updated contacts are automatically synced with Windows Mobile devices by Exchange server or ActiveSync. Thus new and fun photos appear during calls and other places where contacts are used.
OutSync is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Server 2003. It requires Outlook 2003 or 2007.
Sorry for reviving this post, guys. But Skydrive is being a damn cow at the moment, i can't login nor do a thing on it since three days. Can please someone post a mirror link to that app here, or online at a fileshare site?
[deleted post]
Please.
I am merely asking for a mirror of the file. Why? because I can't download from Skydrive (and the file, outsync.msi is only on skydrive) for a reason unknown. I'm very sorry if I wasn't clear enough.
So if anyone with the file in their computer could please upload that file anywhere else than skydrive, please help me out.
Your message wasn't clear enough.
I attached the file for you
Thanks a lot!
It's good to have people like you around here.
It doesn't work for me.
It closes everytime I try to open it and starts the windows error report.
Any idea?

copying email folder/messages to another account

Microsoft says you can't copy an email folder or messages from one account to another. I'm using an AT&T 8525 with WM6. Is there a third party utility or a trick to do this?
Alternatively, I'd be happy if I could just do an export to text files. I tried smsorganizer, and it exported the folder and emails as .txt files, but when I opened them, they had headers and no body..
I'd prefer something free since this isn't something I'll be doing on a regular basis.. my provider started having google host their email and I had to setup a new account to access the account via IMAP...
Thanks..

HOWTO - Getting Facebook images into Contacts

There are some softwares out there that do this, but I accidentally came across this slightly manual method that works pretty well.
What you'll need:
Pidgin
Facebook plugin for Pidgin installed
Facebook account
Friends you like with photos as their "face" or account pic
Process:
Create a new account in Pidgin for Facebook.
You will need to wait for your friends to login to Facebook, as that is when their user pic is downloaded to your machine.
Go to ".purple" folder in the Application Data folder for pidgin.
Go to the icons folder. Your friends' pictures will be here
Copy out the pictures you want to keep into a folder to be renamed later.
Rename the pictures to be the contact name saved in Contacts
On the ROM I have (elite RC4), the user pics are automatically associated as I sync down the Contacts to my phone.
one can also if one sync with outlook get them from facebook to outlook with outsync

Doesn't that cost money, though?

Company Directory- How to use it?

I have synchronized my private contacts with MS Outlook on PC. I have set up MS Exchange email account on WM device, so I can send and receive emails through Exchange Server. However, I can not send email to company employees that are not in my private contact list. There is a option to search in "company directory" but it always gives me "found zero contacts" ... Seems like it is not searching in the right place. Server settings must be fine, since I do get emails and can use Reply to sent emails. There must be something with enabling "company directory" functionality here...
I tried to go into ActiveSync Options and saw that under Microsoft Exchange section only Email is checked (calendar, contacts are not checked). Thought this must be correct setting as I do not want to copy companies global address list into my mobile device. I just want to lookup for a name on Exchange Server when needed. Anyway, I tried to click on Contact checkbox on ActiveSync Options and then it said that I have to uncheck Private Contact. Sounds reasonable as WM can not handle two contact directories.
So what can I do to be able to select name from "Company Directory"
Its simple, you must sync also contacts in AS... Without them Company Directory will not work.

Thank you for quick and clear reply
will it then copy global contact list from Exchange Server to my phone? It will be thousands of people, I do not want to have all of them among my contacts...
If this does not copy all global contact list to my WM device, is there any way to keep my personal contacts on the phone, which are synched with Outlook contacts on PC?

I think not. It provides search online on exchange server.
To your device is synced only your private address book from Outlook. From Outlook which is connected to Exchange - private address book is stored on exchange server and copy on local PC. If you syncing address book from outlook not connected to Exchange server, you lose these contacts...

[Q] Exchange functionality in WP7

Hello,
My company uses hosted Exchange Server for about 200 users, we have been using BB for many years, now we are free to go anyway we want.
Questions: When viewing e-mails from exchange account, can we move them to folders and when moving folders, can we type the name of the folder or do we have to scroll to find the one and then tap to move it? Or is there any app/add-on or customization we can get to allow this?
Also, do all folders get automatically synched to phone, or do we have to select which ones? I hope it syncs them all with no questions, especially when a new one is created on outlook.
Last question, is there a unified inbox for all folders, so e-mails in all folders (not just all accounts) displayed in one screen with icons next to them indicating they are in a folder? If not, that's cool.
I am just trying to move from BB to Windows Phone, and trying to figure out if it has the features I use most frequently.
Answers would really be appreciated.
You can move emails to folders. You must select the folder from a list. There are no apps or customizations AFAIK to change that.
All folders don't automatically get synced, but when you select a folder for the first time you get the option of turning on sync for that folder. Actually to be honest I am not sure if it syncs the folder just that once or if it will continue to sync that folder automatically.
There is no unified-folder view.
Thanks for the reply.
Someone answered this question else where with:
I figured it out recently, just click on bottom right "..." and you will see all the options you are looking for, all folders are there and can be selected + unified messaging....

Is this possible? i don't own a WP7 device, so I can't try, can you check this please? Is this only for unified messaging from multiple accounts?
Regarding folder sync, the reason I asked is because if it automatically syncs all from exchange server, when you create a new folder on Outlook, you would not have to go back to you WP and select it. Is that the case?
Sync folders are not added automatically, you need to do so manually. The only folders synced by default are Inbox and Sent. Drafts can not be synced. All others can be but you have to set it up manually.
The assumed use case is that a user will only have a few folders inportant enough that they want to use the data and storage to sync them on the phone. Out of some 20-ish folders, I only sync 3 on my phone; the rest aren't time-critical. Exchange rules do a pretty good job of filtering the important from the unimportant for me. This way I can turn on the notification for new mail and have it mean something, rather than just have the phone buzzing all day (I get 300+ emails every day at work).
Just to add to this. They are not synced automatically but are listed automatically. You choose the folder then tell it to sync. after that it will follow the default settings for your exchange account and receive emails pushed.
Also you can pin any of those folders to your start screen. I have one for the directors, one for the CEO and one for staff that is always on my start screen.
We are using exchange 2010 at our office and it pretty much rocks. Also IE9 on Windows phone mango fully supports all outlook web mail options. Works great to access the extra calendars like rooms and such.
In your contacts also you can search the exchange server for an address. Exchange support rocks in windows phone.
Also download the emulator, setup an account and try it out. I think that's possible at least as you can test apps on the emulator.
lastly it also follows exchange rules. You can wipe the phone from (even the user can wipe there own) right through OWA on exchange 2010. Also you can set rules to force pin locks and i think although i haven't tried it, limit what the user can do.
Oh and one more thing... it has sharepoint built in. I haven't tried it yet as i just set up a sharepoint foundation server to pitch to the admins once i've worked more on it. That and onenote
