Instructions
Root Explorer method:
1. Put the bootanimation.zip the on your SD card
2. Open Root Explorer and copy bootanimation.zip to /system/media. This will replace the existing boot animation
3. Reboot your phone
Sound Instructions
1. Download PowerOn.wav
2. On Root Explorer go to /system/etc and find PowerOn.wav and you can either delete it or add (.bak) after file name. If you dont have it on your phone it should be fine and still work.
3. Past the PowerOn.wav file you downloaded in /system/etc
4. Then reboot and there you go!

Cool but why not just replace poweron.wav in /system/etc with a different audio file? Most ROM developers take this file out but many custom kernels support it.

Actually that's a good idea. Just need to put all the different bootanimation files somewhere, then have a simple script that is run at the end of boot to copy a random file over to the data/local directory. I'll see if I can hack up something.

Question, why do you push the .zip to /data/local/ if the original bootanimation.zip is in /system/media?

i was working on modifying the miui stock boot animation to theme it like miuimod but it was kinda looking bad so i stopped plus i couldnt get it to zip right so i could see it on my phone. im new to it.

for nexus one just get a rooted file explorer and got to system/media then there is a bootanimation.zip copy it out of there and paste it some where safe then paste new bootanimation.zip in to folder then on reboot it will have new animation
this is just what i was already working one. the second image is when i stopped and was like idk if i like this lol but i know the first one i like but i cant get it to zip right i think.

I'm using cm6 and when I try to copy the new boot animation to the system/media it tells me the folder is read only.

i used 7zip to make a store zip and it still didnt work my bootanimation is only 2.1mb

Bootanimation made from Introducing Galaxy Nexus.
I liked it and I had to have it done.
I decided to share with you
v2 - bootanimation.zip (landscape mode)
v2 - bootanimation.zip (portrait mode)
I recommend the one in lendscape mode, but for those who just want bootanimation in portrait mode (slightly elongated ).... I made it.
Added a bootsound
File that you downloaded android_audio.mp3.zip IS NOT ZIP FILE!
Rename it from android_audio.mp3.zip to android_audio.mp3

Rename whichever zip you download to "bootanimation.zip" (without quotes) and put in on your SD card. Then, using Root Explorer, go to /system/customize/resource and paste that file over the one inside of the folder. If you'd like, you can rename the original bootanimation.zip to "bootanimation.zip.bak" just in case.

Instructions to install boot animation:
0) download boot animation zip file and save to phone
1) Download ES File Explorer from market (its free)
2) Go to ES File Explorer settings
3) Scroll towards the bottom and enable Root Explorer and Mount File System.
4) Copy zip file from location using ES File Explorer (press and hold on zip file and hit copy)
5) Click on Favorites at the top of ES file Explorer
6) click on phone icon (/)
7) Go to System > Media
8) Paste in bootanimation.zip file
9) Restart and Enjoy

i've been thinking about a theme..but i guess i should wait until they are done with cm9 to see what capability we will have..but i can create the icons in the mean time and have it ready to go.

no need to be sorry we all gotta learn the new stuff at some point.
first dl the image that you want and upload it somewhere like imgur.com (do not upload it directly from computer to xda..this will not work for sigs).
for signature to work go under private message (top right under the Welcome (yourname)).
This will take you to a new page..you will see on the left side there is a "your control panel".
Click on edit signature.
in there put in the DIRECT LINK that you get from imgur.com in the img tags..which goes something like this {img}http://i.imgur.com/LK8vW.gif{/img} where you will need to replace all { and } with [ and ] respectively.
thats it . let me know if you have any questions.
on xda avatars can not be animated..so you will have to select one of the static avatars. hope this helps.

Thanks . I don't think boot animations have to be specific to the phone. you can just dl the boot animation and put it to whichever phone you want (I THINK!).

Rename to bootanimation.zip
Put on sdcard in your device
In root explorer or other move manualy to system\media and replace existing bootanimation.zip file. For your safety you can rename existing bootanimation to bootanimation-old.zip and paste one of mine animation you just downloaded.

Apple animation will stop at the end , but if you want to animation to repeat you need to move last 4 files from folder part0 to part1 in bootanimation.zip

Sorry just read it do I flash it or place it in place with root explorer. Also the letters only would be so bad ass thank you!

I explain in first post how to install. DO NOT FLASH !!!.. Manualy push to system/media. make sure your kernel is alowing to play bootanimation.zip not sanim.zip. If your kernel is using sanim.zip rename to sanim.zip before moving to system/media.
