So what does HTC Sense Sync actually sync and where does it sync it to? I am on the 200mb plan so I am trying to watch my usage.
I created an account on the HTC Sense website but the only thing on there is the ability to find my phone.
Thanks

I'm kind of wondering that too, it sure seems to want to sync an awful lot.
I think one thing might be text messages. I got a new Inspire because I thought mine had a problem and texts received with the previous phone showed up in the messaging app after syncing.

its a different type of UI it specializes in keeping you in sync with everything in your social world, it does sync a lot but you make it sync only when you want to
so, to clarify:
what does Sync HTC Hub do?
and
what does Sync HTC Sense do?

it took you five seconds to get the info I did not ask for Maybe you should quit being lazy and read the thread and the question first?
the first link you posted is for HTC Sync software for PC, the second one is of concern to Windows Mobile phones.
What I wanted to know is, when I go to settings/accounts&sync//HTC Sense, I get:
Sync HTC Sense
and
Sync HTC Hub
my question is what data exactly do these 2 options sync?

well, before you attack soemoen that helped you, maybe read those websites. I went to them and learned what they do. I mean if you need it written in crayon im sure someone here has some they can draw up a picture for you, otherwise dont come here asking noobish questions then attacking someone that pointed you where you can find the info you need.

I've read them:
1. "HTC Sync is powerful software that lets you maximize the use of your Android-powered HTC phone." - not an answer to my question!
2. "HTC Hub is where you can check out weather forecasts, stock updates, and news. It's also the place to go to find out what free HTC apps you can download from Windows Marketplace. " - not an answer to my question! (news are a separate sync item in accounts&sync, as well as stocks and weather, so it leaves Windows Marketplace, yeah, that must be it ).
Also, he attacked me first for being lazy and then provided an answer he looked up for 5 seconds and obviously did not bother to read it first
htc sync is just ur contacts, mp3s, pictures u sync with the matching software on ur pc. the hub is just a useless place u can find a couple themes 9 backgrounds and a handful of widgets, its not updated ever lol. and getting it to sync with the htc software is a pain and has been for many people. best to avoid both imo

AFAIK, the options in settings/accounts&sync//HTC Sense also sync SMSs, list of installed apps, enable you to use the dashboard from htcsense.com (so, remote wipe ur phone, make it ring even if different sim is inserted or locate it on the map if you lost it and password protect it remotely, with a message you want to display on the phone). These options do not have anything to do with syncing with the PC (I do not have any HTC software installed on my PC).
HTC Hub on the other side, AFAIK, has the themes, ringtones and HTC widgets and such, so Darunion is correct in that part.
Darunion mentioned contacts. I think it only syncs the "phone" contacts. Not sim or google. And you are better off if you just have all your contacts as google contacts anyways.
The Sense syncing has also something to do with your location too. Updates your location for phone finder I believe.
But with or without the turmoil in this thread we have to agree that most of this is worthless. Especially when it only works half of the time.

I tried this out on my phone today, running the CM7 RC1, and it did not work. After entering my credentials for login, the app window minimized, then after several seconds came back up asking for the credentials again. I tried several times, making sure I was entering everything correctly. Oh well, no surprise here, nothing seems to work with this phone.

Is anyone else actually interested in this? I'd love to be able to actually use the front-facing camera, but I know absolutely no one that uses Qik. Everyone I know uses Skype or Google Talk, but neither of these are doing video calls on our phones. What gives?

Vtok, out of the box, does not work at all for me. It gets to the contacts screen and displays all of nothing. As I understand it, those apps all require some sort of package file renaming that I am quickly growing weary of.
I appreciate the info. I'm really looking for a solid phone-to-desktop video chat client that has NOTHING to do with Yahoo--I abandoned them some time ago, and none of my contacts use them, either.
It just feels like the Google and Skype devs don't care whatsoever about our devices. I understand that the Tegra chips are sort of new in the Android world, but it feels like they are just being ignored when it comes to apps that utilize the hardware.

Unless I'm missing something here, the GTalk part of Fring doesn't allow video calls. I am completely not interested in phone-to-phone video calls, as no one I know has a phone with a front-facing camera. I'm looking for phone-to-desktop solutions, and I don't see a desktop Fring client--not that I'd accept that option because Google and Skype are fully capable of video calls. If my contacts have to sign up and install some new service then this is still a failure.

Nope. They don't need file renaming. You just need one file to be put in the framework folder and that's it.
Fyi, more phones and tablets are coming out with tegra 2 chips so what you are saying about "ignore" is a myth.

If I remember correctly, there is a file you have to copy somewhere to put in the nexus s info - you have a copy of that file and know which folder it goes in?
Heck I'll give it a try!

Only oovoo needs nexus s info. The rest works without editing build.prop.
The file needed goes to framework folder.

can someone create a zip that i can flash to my phone so that i can use my usb cable to my phone to get internet from my laptop ...
running hellfire sandwich v1.6
probably not, if your laptop has a sticker on it saying it was built for windows 7, then you can get a program that will allow your laptop to become a hotspot (like our phones can) if not then its most likely going to be some kind of 3rd party app on both your phone and your computer.
Search the Google Play Store, and Google. if nothing shows up then your probably out of luck.
i have an app on my phone called 'reverse tether' but it doesnt wanna connect ..

the zip is corrupt, link to the download in the app store itself instead.
also, read the description carefully, most of those types of apps need a program to run on the computer too.

no, i cant help unless i know where you got the apk from. was it from the google market? did it come with instructions? was it a 3rd party app store? what versions of android is it made for? does it need a program to run on the computer as well?
i need a link to where you got it from.
got it on the market.. its made for droid 2.2+ there isnt any app that needs to run on the pc ... u just need lg drivers installed.. i get it to show up as an network connection via usb from the phone but it just stays at "unidenified network" wont get internet access
and if you would of just installed the apk you would see that the instructions are built into the app

i think This is the app your talking about.
if it is, then take down the .apk, because its a paid app and you cant post that stuff here.
second, ICS Drivers are kinda messed up with USB tethering, so try it on an GB Rom and see if it works.
and finally, im helping you because i want to, all i asked for was a link to the market app, and you just cannot even take the time to do that, so this is all the time im going to put into helping you. if what i said above does not help, then good luck.
Edit: also, im not going to install an apk from an unreliable source. turns out, there are such things as viruses and malware for android phones.
well thanks anyways..
i think your statement with ics drivers is right ..appreciate your time

So I killed my XT897. I dropped it on cement and cracked the screen so badly that I can't read it at all. Luckily I had the insurance and most of my data backed up to the cloud. However, it would be great if I could somehow back up the other stuff (apps, sms, call log, etc...) and then would like to wipe the old phone before returning it. Any suggestions on how to do this?
I guess you could adb pull stuff, but no clue how to adb pull sms messages and call log....
You usually need an app to back that stuff up. Maybe someone has another idea...

What I was hoping for was a way to take remote control using a service like webkey (I use that to remote control my tablet). Problem is, I can't see the screen to configure the app so it's a catch 22!

Would it be possible to install a remote viewing program such as TeamViewer using ADB on your Android device and and corresponding software on PC side???
Then you could in theory utilize the PC Application to at least search through all the Android system files and have access to everything you need to back up...
(Yes, HDMI probably works better for this because of the fact there is a GUI, but I was considering all options)

Last I remember you gotta be rooted with a VNC server app running though. :/
You might be better off just pulling all your data with ADB, flashing with RSD and sending it in.
If you pull with ADB though some things like call/text history might not be easily loaded into another phone but you will at least have all the database files and any media.

You could install a custom recovery like clock work mod then back up your phone from there. Then do a factory reset. Then uninstall your recovery. then lock your boot-loader again.

In response, with TeamViewer one is not able to "control" an Android device, as there is no Graphical User Interface (GUI), but I am able to access all files and such with my PC. And I will check to see if indeed being rooted is required to install this on the Android side.

It would really be nice if there was a way to transfer images to the gallery app via bluetooth rather than needing to connect to a computer via USB. Especially on the Neo where the gallery serves no purpose otherwise. How hard do you think it would be to be able to add the devices to the share menu on the gallery app and then integrating with the tizen app? Any thoughts?
I am having a hell of a time getting the sdk to install correctly on Windows too btw!

Do you mean transfering images from watch to phone? or vice versa? Cause pics from watch is automatically showing up in my phone's gallery after taking them.
