[Q] WM7 on an Android device? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to get WM7 on an Android native device? I'm not asking for a specific device, just in general.
Though, if I were to ask for a specific device, I'm thinking about my Touch Pro 2, or an HTC Evo Shift, or the Samsug Transform Ultra. Just want to see if it's possible to get Win7 on a phone I can get on my Boost plan.
I don't need your "just get a win7 phone" answers. I just want to know if the above is possible. Thank you.

no its not possible but i think in the future with the unbrickable mod

No, it is not possible, because there is no such thing as "WM7." Windows Mobile never made it to a version 7 -- 6.x was all she wrote.
And no one will tell you to get a "win7 phone" either. Windows 7 is a desktop OS. Aside from one novelty model put out by some manufacturer in Japan (Fujitsu maybe?) there is no such thing as a phone based on Windows 7.

A lot of guys talk of WM7 instead of WP7, so guess that's what he meant...
Anyway, WP7 is extremly unlikly to work on a native android just because it's closed source and therefore not easy to port...

Yes, I meant WP7, though I could be more lenient on my lingo given I was in the WP7 forums. Apparently, tai4de2 took my misspelling to heart. Heh heh. Understandable though.
Thanks guys, now I know.

Someone apparently ported the Windows Mobile Phone 7 to an HTC.... Hopefully coming to a "Dual-Booting Samsung Captivate" near you?!
I would link it, but I'm apparently not allowed?
This doesn't belong in Development.

no need to bash on other OS because you prefer android. i'd love to see windows phone 7 on my captivate too. first impression doesn't mean anything, you have to play with an OS and knows what it has to offer and the feels of it to pass judgement.

No support in the OS for hummingbird processors, if you want a port you would have to write that in. Thats why samsung used snapdragons in the focus and omnia 7.
Blah. 10 char
Having played with win phone 7, I actually like to do the opposite, can we put Android on a win 7 device? knowing windows sysreq, I'm sure it's pretty decent hardware...
Wait
I'm going to wait for Gingerbread, I know WP7 looks great, but I have a feeling that Gingerbread is going to look even better, so I'm going to wait until I have a peek at what it looks like.

I know better to judge before I have had a month with the phone. Judgement shall be held until I actually have experience with the phone and os.. Pre judgement is kind of dumb, ios users do it to android all the time. Now people on android do it to wp7.

If WP7 turns out to be a massive failure, or falls behind in the OS race, I bet we'll see it' Otherwise, I doubt it. Hacks will likely go to porting newer versions of WP7 instead. If they wanted android, they'd have bought it, since there are tons of high end android phones wherever they buy their wp7 devices.
I would LOVE to have Windows Phone 7 on this instead. It's basically Android, but with all of it's major problems address (and the introduction of some new ones, I'm sure). But the positives clearly outweigh the negatives... Google needs to take a lesson from Microsoft and make some big changes to Android. Namely, updates straight from them.
But it's not going to happen.
I think it can be done.
The Sansumg focus is a galaxy with windows phone 7. we have the most ingenius and resourfull community if it is possible, here is were it will happen .
So, Whos up for it?!

No, the focus is not. It's got the same internals basically as an older HTC like the Evo, not a hummbingbird.

no it only borrows the screen. it is spec'd as a snapdragon, not a hummingbird!
and why would anyone in there right mind want phone 7 if they can have android? why not just buy a focus with out dated hardware?
the hts phones running windows mobile are because the hd2 had a bootloader that could support multiple os's. i would like the bootloader ported so we can run multiple android roms like there are doing in the evo forum but id never install phone 7 or winmo 6.whatever from what im looking at the interface is so limited you might as well port iOS 2.2 because they are about the same.
Not going to happen. The hardware is too different, and unlike when you port Android to another piece of hardware, WP7 is not open source.
And yes, the Samsung Focus is NOT a Galaxy S in any way except for the Super AMOLED screen.

Some people prefer things that work. Some people prefer getting the latest firmware at all times. Not this "let's wait 7 god damn months after FroYo is released before you actually get it" crap. Some people want a UI that isn't ugly, lag filled, and unintuitive.
It's not perfect, but for a first release it's pretty damn good.

Android on the Arrive/7 Pro

Searched, and haven't found a thread on this.
I'm due for an upgrade in July on my Sprint line, and I was almost certain I was going to go with the EVO 3D (when it comes out), but then I saw the HTC Arrive and kinda liked it. The thing is, though, that I really like Android as well. I know dual-booting Android was possible on the Touch Pro 2, so I was wondering if it's possible to do the same thing with the Arrive/7 Pro, or if having Windows Phone 7 prevents it from being able to do this. Thanks!
It cannot be done as of now.

The HTC 7 Pro has the same SoC as HD7 and HD2, and both of them already have Android.
Why Android still can't be ported for 7 Pro?
I'm pretty sure that hardspl must be available before we can flash custom roms on our pros. More imporantly some sort of application like haret for WM6 but for WP7 would probably also need to be developed first. Hopefully some fine day it will all be possible like on the HD2.
i was looking at how they dual boot with hd2, and it looks like they boot from sdcard, and flash wp7. we shouldn't need to flash wp7, but booting android is sdcard boot. so i see no reason why we can't boot from sdcard, unless we need a special boot loader, and the boot loader they need doesn't have the access to wp7 to get the boot loader working properly and that goes beyond me please correct me if I'm wrong.
why would anyone want to put an unsecure, laggy, fragmented, built from stolen code OS like Android on a fine device such as the arrive? wp7 is leaps and bounds superior to Android and once mango arrives it will be even better. thus the need to do this isn't necessary.

and also many articles that say the opposite. Dont just spew out stuff and say it as fact. Other people have different preferences.
iOS is just as fragmented as Android. Only thing is that Apple controls the fragmentation so dumbass developers dont try making completely universal apps when they dont know how the hell to do that.
And fragmentation isnt an issue for consumers. Its perfectly fine. So i dont understand your bias against it unless you are a developer.

I really don't care whether you or anyone says android is worse or better than wp7 but it would be nice to switch if one wants to. so when there is a thread discussing the possibility to port android on the 7 pro, there is no need for no-sayers, since they can occupy their brains with other stuff.
i would love to see this, but especially since there is only 1 sd-card, its either flashing one or the other i think...
Not possible on wp7 YET

Hello all,
I am new to mobile phones and I would like to post some questions, which are general in fact, but closely related to the topic and the Arrive device.
I would like to have another OS on it and I have found a way to change the SD cart it is running with, so I should be able to change or modify it with no trouble.
I imagine that I could find another HTC device with identical hardware and deploy it's ROM to this one in a manner similar to HD2's approach. I am so new that I already can feel how dumn is that ... but still.
I need to clarify some basics in order to know what to look for. First of all what does the firmware does and how it is related to the OS. Can I imagine it is something like BIOS, which controls the main hardware like processor, ram, telephony, etc? If so what stops me of formatting the SD and booting another system from it on the same hardware.
Another thing is what the ROM contains and how it is related to the OS. I am with the impression that it has everything in it -- OS distributive, firmware backup and bootloader maybe. If that is correct am I free to cook a ROM that contains the same firmware (as I imagine it like a BIOS alternative), the bootloader of another system and its distributive? Of course the ROM that is already on the device may and most probably will try to stop me, so I will need to somehow format it.
I do not express myself too good due to lack of expertise, but I know computers and I believe you will know what to tell me to straighten my thoughts.
Thank you in advance for any information you provide.
Sincere,
drel
At this stage, pesonally, I think wp7 is the best os to me. At it is not laggy as android does and looks more beautiful than iOS...

I think what you meant to say was "Why would anyone have a different opinion than my awesome opinion?" As much as I love WP7 I'd love to be able to use Android with this chassis. Choice is always good. There is no Android phone with this keyboard.

Bump. Having no Bluetooth SPP has just pissed me off for a year. About to get an Galaxy Nexus S come May, so I don't mind tinkering with my Arrive for now.
hello?
Any news about dual booting android on arrive / HD7 Pro? I read the thread and some users just talk crap. " Why this? Why that?" Why not, may I ask. I Love WP7, i really think that beats the crap out of everything else. But why can't we dream of having android too? As far as I know, Android has at the moment much more apps ( free and payed ones ) available than WP7. My brother-in-law has veetle ( just an example ) on his Xperia S, and he can watch live football/soccer which I can't cuz there is no veetle available. And who can name veetle, can name many others too. The point is: Combining the best of two worlds would makes fully profit from our beloved phones, which we payed ( at least I did ). I really hope that some news about this stuff.
Best Regards
Miiky

[Q] Could you recommend me any WP7 mobile phone which can multiboot Android??

Hey yes I am a noob and did some research and homework on my own
but did not come across the right thread or information I am looking for yet.
I decided to go for a WP7 phone after selling my brand new iPhone 4 which I got from my insurance claim. The main reason was because while my iphone was in insurance claiming process I had a chance to use an android phone and I was amazed that how I have confined myself only to iOS.
I really liked the UI of WP7 and what it is capable to do so but at the same time my major concern is that it does not have some apps which android and iOS have got.
whatsapp and kakaotalk for example.
So I have come to a conclusion that I should buy a WP7 phone and get it modded (or hacked) so that it can multiboot both Android and WP7 operating systems.
My reasoning is that since Android is an open source platform, it has more adaptability to other hardwares hence I should go for WP7 and get it run Android on it.
From my research I have learned that HD2 could do it but personally I don't think HD2 is worth giving up my brand new iPhone 4 but something like Samsung Galaxy S2.
Anyone could name a good WP7 smartphone which could multiboot Android?
Thanks for reading this and please don't hunt down on such a noob. I did search on the forum but I could not find the right information for me.
HD 2 is the one and only.

What Phones can run WP7?

I'm in the market to buy a used Verizon phone, and I'd like to pick one that I can install WP7 on. What Verizon Phones are available that can have this installed on them?
HTC Trophy. Sick phone.
-Griffin CEO of Parios
Right. I was aware of that one, but I was looking more into phones that could be flashed with WP7. Maybe a windows 6.5 based phone that can be upgraded. I'm not due for an upgrade at the moment and I need to buy a decently cheap phone. So I was making sure that there weren't any other phones for Verizon that could possibly be flashed to run WP7.

The only phone that can be flashed to run WP7 is the HD2 (that I am aware of) and it is a GSM so I'm afraid unless your on AT&T or T-Mobile, you'll have to stick to the Trophy.

The only phones that can have WP7 flashed to them are phones that are released with WP7 on them (for now at least) all BAR the HTC HD2 as that is just a beast of a phone that has had Android and WP7 portered to it.

Windows Phone 7 has strict hardware requirements that pretty much make any Windows Mobile 6.5 phone and below incompatible with it. Even the HD2 does not follow the exact guidelines, but it is the only phone that has a working Windows Phone 7 port and its likely going to be the only phone with a Windows Phone 7 port since the hardware is similar to a current Windows Phone 7 device out (HD7).
Verizon only has the Trophy, and that is your only option if you stick to Verizon.
Judging by your post, I'm guessing you haven't done too much research on Windows Phone 7, so if you are looking to "upgrade" from a Windows Mobile 6.5 based device, make sure you read up on the major differences between the two operating systems. They are in no way similar at all aside from the name. And as most people have found out when thinking that Windows Phone 7 is an "upgrade" to Windows Mobile 6.5, they become terribly frustrated by some of the changes and downright disappointed because they don't understand the differences between the two operating systems.
Windows Phone 7 is not an "upgrade". Its an entirely new mobile operating system. Keep this in mind.

probably would have been a better idea to have bought an hd2.

because at this point for android to boot, someone else has to do it. DFT openly stated previously they are not taking up the project...so there you go...
as far as in general, the consensus is correct. If you want an android device, get an android device. It is far simpler.
Yeah, we want options, but if a port were to happen, don't expect it to be done like tomorrow. So when people suggest getting an android device, they're correct.
I would never do that to my phone! WP> android IMHO. Although with the limited number of WP devices, it would be great if we could port WP to android devices :-D
