Hi guys,
Our IT department recently updated policies on our exchange server, and now they require that device encryption be enabled to sync with the exchange server.
Now, as soon as this was enabled, my phone stopped syncing with exchange. After numerous attempts at making it work I deleted the account and tried to add it again. This is when I started receiving messages regarding device encryption.
I have contacted our IT department, and they advised that the Sensation doesn't support device encryption, and I am out of luck with syncing my phone with exchange as they will not disable the encryption requirement
Is the IT department correct in regards to the fact that the Sensation doesn't support device encryption? If they are, then would some custom ROM be able to "spoof" or enable device encryption?
Thanks in advance for all replies.
Regards,
Michael
The sense 3.5 roms allow you to encrypt the phone but I'm not quite sure if this is what you are asking.

well, once I would assume so... but as I said, I have no idea what the specific problems are... I know that as soon as they enabled the new security policies, my Exchange stopped working... I will investigate S-Off'ing the phone, and then installing a Sense 3.5 ROM. Hopefully that works, because my other options are to use a second phone (WinMo 6.5), swap for a HTC Desire (which apparently works), or swap for my dad's SGS2 (very unlikely to happen)...

Hi,
Since Gingerbread came out the built in email client has stopped working with Exchange with encryption turned on. Does anyone know if there is a rom that supports this or is there a Froyo rom that I could try on my HTC EVO Shift?
Thanks
Not sure but at my old job I used MikShifted G, and it worked with Exchange and encryption turned on. You didn't mention what Rom your running. But have you talked with your IT people to make sure your device has permission? If your going to try Froyo, I also had no issues using MikShift v1.1. Hope that helps
is anyone else having issues with exchange in ALL roms based on the OTA update based on android 2.3.5.. Sometimes when it displays an error connecting or similar (when internet is down or the WAN connection has no internet etc), it gets stuck in that loop (displaying error), even if by then internet connection is OK, the conmnection to the exchange server would not be reconnected. Manually syncing still displays a connection error.. then the only solution to un-stuck it is to open the email app..
All Roms (except viruous unity, which is not based on the update) have this problem..
It happens with both Hotmail and Gmail account (set as exchange AS)
a single yes or no would be nice
And I'm seeing reports of sync issues (failure to do 2 way sync properly), so would also like to know if syncing to a real corp Exchange account (which I do now) will become a problem if/when I upgrade from 2.3.3/1.47.110.3
I did get into a continuous sync loop once before. The cure was to delete and recreate the Exchange account on the phone...
Hyperion is based on the official 2.3.5 RUU, and exchange works fine. If fact, I depend on it for work, and all my contacts are synced from there.
Cheers

don't get me wrong.. it works most of the time, but once it displays an error msg, it gets stuck in that loop
I am having problems with 1and1 exchange active sync after the 2.3.5 OTA update with it being incredibly un-reliable and keeps throwing erros (socket errors, not actually doing a full receive, staying in a loop).
It is soooo frustrating; question do I report it to google or HTC?
Thanks
Exactly.. this is what I mean. Totally unreliable. Exchange is broken in all 2.3.5 roms I tried. I went back to virtus unity which uses 2.3.4 and it works 100% ok. I think it is an HTC problem.. but can not be sure.
I see this mentioned in various posts...but can we get a single thread started where we address this issue if it hasn't been addressed already. I need this working for me bad! I noticed some have gone back to Gingerbread...which I will more than likely do but I dislike Gingerbread! I'd rather stay with ICS only if I can get MS Exchange working. It prompts me to invoke security settings but takes me to storage settings???? I have seen where someone even went threw this but it still did not work. I still get the constant bubble at the top of my phone stating that MS Exchange is unable to sync because security settings haven't been enabled. With Gingerbread all you had to do was hit activate then put a pin in and wow your done....with ICS it does not do this...
I run ICS AOSP on my HD2 and it syncs with our Exchange server perfectly. What's the problem?

1. Wrong AREA to post
2. You're using a beta rom, so go back to GB
3. Use a different client in ICS
What do you recommend me using. Aren't they all BETA's?
I use stock email from ics and push mail working good with HTML support.
I have an HTC Sensation and I cannot get it to sync on a fresh flash. Using ICS Stock email
InsertCoin 4.1.1 Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.3 – Full Rom
Works flawlessly with Exchange Sync to what I believe is version 2010
/olme
The issue is with the HTC Sense 3.5 email client. I heard the native ICS email client works.
I have used the built in client in this version of ICS as well as the Sense 3.5 client both with ICS and GB. I have no problems with syncing with a Exchange 2010 server.
On some setups I found the activation screen for the Exchange security flew by quickly after I gave the entry a name..It showed up in the notification tray so I was able to roll down the notification click on the entry and activate it. I suspect if you reboot before activating you might be toast.
If you still are having problems try Touchdown for Smartphones..I found it works very well..in some ways it has better features than the built in client. Worth the 20 bucks.

I should have said I am currently using Megadroid ICS 4.0.3 v 1.4.2
Storage encryption.
Hello,
Mine works. I had to tick the storage encryption.
Beware though.
Enabling encryption on the SD card will WIPE ALL the data on the card without any notice (as far as I remember).
Make a backup of your SD card prior to encrypting.
Should you go back to GB for any reason, you will have to un-encrypt the SD card and that will wipe the card too!
Cheers.

I had an issue with exchange, setup went well to the point to activate securety settings.
it just stopped there and would not activate.
i found out that due to extensive flashing i had used up the max numer of devices on exchange server. Luckely i have my on exchange server so i could reset the device amount.
When this was done the setup went like normal.
Exchange settings don't stick for long
Hi, I too use Exchange on ICS and have had no real issues except this one:
I change the default sync settings from 15mins/1hour to push/manual. Frequently this resets again to the default settings.
Anyone know why this is?
Can I tweak an ini file or is something else causing this?
Hope someone can help as it is becoming quite irritating.
This problem only happens with Hotmail/Live Mail. But you have a point, it's quite annoying. And you can't set it to HTML! This option is greyed out.

Hi, a suggestion for you!
And maybe op and others to try
I also had sync issues with ICS and Sense 3.5/6 and 4, they always reverted back to 15 min, 5kb etc.
But surprise surprise! Baadnewz's Sense 4 beta10 includes a fix for this!!!
I can set options like sync every hour, full message download and they stick!
Even upon reboot
Finally HTC became aware of the issue (and did something about it), maybe it solves issues for op as wel..

Also working on Badnews Insertcoin v5.1.6 ICS v3.6. Exchange settings stick even after reboot....

Exchange Server 2010 (14.01.0339.001)
ARHD 6.5.2 XE, kernel SebastianFM v1.30.2 - 1782 MHz
Default email client works perfectly fine. Push email works, limit set to 5kb by default, format HTML. Settings presist through a reboot. Contacts/mail/tasks/calendar are in sync, no problems.
6.5.2 was installed for the 1-st time. I had stock rom/kernel/radio. So you might want to try perform a super-wipe, flash ROM again and install the latest kernel. Also to help you pinpoint the issue, logs from the gateway and the device would help i guess. Exchange ActiveSync is quite weird sometimes, worce is only RPCoHTTP, heh.
EDIT: Also after preforming a clean install of the system, don't restore anything from backup. Test if it works in default configuration. I ran into a few problems after restoring settings from titanium backup.
My HD7 is not identifying any WIFI network and ICS shows "Internet Sharing isn't currently available"
This problem is there with wp7.8 only, its not there in previous versions...
Please help me! :crying:
If doing a hard reset doesn't fix that, then reflash the rom...
what rom are you using?
I've tried all 7.8 ROMS..
Not even a single 7.8 ROM fixes this problem..
In Earlier versions, WIFI and ICS are working properly..
Only in 7.8 ROMS, its not working
Sorry but...
That's B.S.
I'm using Dynamics V2.0 and I used ICS, and no problem with it, the same with Deepshining ROMs, they work.
Remember that the ICS option uses password security unless you don't want that.

I realise that language may be totally acceptable where you come from but to many, telling them that they are speaking "BS" might come across as being quite offensive.
there is clearly a problem otherwise the OP wouldn't have posted the question, So its not "BS" but the answer may be simple or even a misunderstanding, talk it through with them, perhaps you may provide an answer, perhaps its a device specific problem.
Just a wee word of advice, that's all!

Dear Friends,
I'm still having this issue.. Please help me!!
I had a similar problem on my Nokia Lumia 710 after flashing a custom ROM (I don't remember which, maybe Rataplan?) but I solved it by downloading the Nokia Network Setup app from the Marketplace, which automatically setup my APN for data. I think HTC has a similar one called HTC Connection Manager, so I would try that. Hope that helps!

Dear phantomsniper,
Thanks for reply. But you are talking about Data connection. But my problem is with the WIFI and Internet sharing. My data connection is working fine. Please let me know if you have any workaround for this issue.
Regards,
Karty
That's the strange thing actually. My data connection on the phone worked fine, but the internet connection sharing didn't. After running the Network Setup app, both worked perfectly. I don't know why, but my assumption is that Windows Phones have two sets of APNs. One for regular data and one for internet sharing.
In my case, I think the ROM had the AT&T APN for regular data, but not the one for internet sharing, so the Nokia app fixed that. I've never owned an HTC windows phone, so I can't comment on how they may work. I guess it's worth a try though. I hope this helps, and good luck!
did anyone find a fix for this issue?
idk, I've updated to 7.8 (8862) and used it for more than 1 year, no WiFi or Bluetooth issues
while most users had this problem after they've updated to 7.8 take a look at this discussion with Microsoft Support
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...e/a15a3040-72e9-447f-8aaf-f1326bbf6b4a?page=6
I tried to flash an old stock rom, it worked.! but only for few hours :/
I tried to flash custom 7.8 roms nor NWA or Deepshining fixed it
well I've noticed that if you repeatedly do a hard reset for many times it works! but only for few minutes,, I'm not sure but it seems that WiFi fails again right after phone been locked or goes to standby mode.
pleeeeease, if someone have found a fix for this, or can do a workaround to fix this issue, please share it with us.
Tested with Skype version 3.2.0.6673 (released 1st July 2013) on various
Android devices (Sony Xperia Z, Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Huawei Premia 4G
The Skype for Android application appears to have a bug which permits the
Android inbuilt lockscreen (ie. pattern, PIN, password) to be bypassed
relatively easily, if the device is logged into Skype, and the "attacker"
is able to call the "victim" on Skype.
This can be reproduced as follows with 2 Skype accounts, and 2 separate
devices to use with Skype. The target phone is presumed to have an Android
lockscreen configured and in use, and to be locked during the test.
1. Initiate a Skype call to the target device, which will cause it to
wake, ring, and display a prompt on the screen to answer or reject the call
2. Accept the call from the target device using the green answer button
on the screen
3. End the call from the initiating device (ie. the device used to call
the target phone)
4. The target device will end the call, and should display the
lockscreen.
5. Turn off the screen of the target device using the power key, and
turn it on again
6. The lockscreen will now be bypassed. It will remain bypassed until
the device is rebooted
Similar to (ironically enough):
http://arstechnica.com/security/201...een-lock-on-up-to-100-million-android-phones/.
Seems that internet based calling apps might well be "unlucky".
I suggest logging out of skype when not using it, until there is a fix.
Thanks to Turl for originally bringing this to my attention.
Greetings pulser_g2,
Thanks for posting this. I found that all these screenlock bypass vulns (including yours) won't work if a enterprise policy is enforced on the target device. I've tested with 2 different smartphones, Note 8.0 and Note 2. Both with the current stock firmware. Can you or anyone else confirm this?
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the tip. However, forcing enterprise policy onto a device that does not need it should not be a solution for a bug like this (not ranting against you, please don't take it that way). Skype was already informed about this a couple of weeks ago and nothing has been done afaik.
I received a Skype update today from the market, so I guess it might be worth checking if the bug can be repeated or if it has been fixed.
Hi egzthunder1,
I don't take your post personal. My post was not made with the intent to be a bugfix. I just want someone else who also has access to provisioned devices to confirm my observation. Additionally if my observation is correct then it should be mentioned in a security advisory that enterprise provisioned devices with an enforced password seem to not be affected by all these lockscreen bypasses. I'm just discussing here
Does andybody know which wrong usage of the Android-API might be used here? I'm developing myself an app which switches the Screen on and shows information without the need to unlock the device. Know I'm concerned that I might use the API wrong, too. There were also such bugs in other apps in the past month, so there must be some wrong usage type. Saidly I didn't find anything about it via googling. If you have links, please share.

It seems to be related to the use of the permission to disable the lockscreen.
I.e. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/12021800/disable-delay-android-lock-screen-programmatically
You want to ensure you definitely disable the option once done. I suggest you create a test plan and ensure even if everything goes wrong, the lock will still get enabled again in the end.

Hmmm that is interesting actually.
I need to see if I can replicate this by forcing provisioning manually.
I don't have an exchange server unfortunately (I use my own mail server that uses the protocol but doesn't do the complex provisioning.)
I'll have a look though as I think it supports provisioning in the configuration where it emulates Exchange. I believe this likely is a workaround for enterprise users.
This would be enough motivation actually to look at setting up proper provisioning of my devices.
Thanks for letting me know
