There's a rumor floating around that the Mango update has been released on the HD7S.....apparently though its not true.
How can I just get Mango now?
I've heard those running 7712 can upgrade to official Mango now.
Is there anyway to do this now?
My phone is developer unlocked. I've got a student app hub account, but I don't think I can get the betas?
Thanks in advance (from me and all those who are desperate for Mango)
Which version of OS are you running?
There is a method to force the update on your phone, not sure it would work with you or you have tried it, but here goes anyway. (I used on my HD7 two weeks ago)
Plug your phone and sync it with Zune.
From Settings -> Phone -> Update.
It will check if there is an official update for you, if it shows an update then cheers!
If not:
1- Click Linking button above Update.
2- Click Update button again, and quickly disable your Network adapter (Or unplug the wire)
If it shows an update for you then Hurray! But in case it doesn't show try to repeat the previous steps, but with changing the timing of disabling your Internet connection.
Sometimes it happened from first try, one it took me ~15 times :|
After it shows an update is there for you, re-enable your Internet connection and click update.
Hope this helps in your case, don't know anyone with HD7S to ask him if he tried this method.
I know about the force-update method. Thanks for trying to help.
The issue is, the update for the HD7S isn't delivering, and the force-update only works when the update is already on the servers.
From what I know, only those with 7712 (Mango Beta 2) or RTM can update to the official Mango (7720). But I'm not sure how I would get a hold of Beta 2 or RTM.
Oh and I'm running 7390
There is a guide somewhere in the forums to get Mango Beta 2, there is also another method which forces Mango ISV.
Hmm if you can sideload apps try: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287505
Try looking these threads.
But honestly I think you should wait a bit longer if you don't want to mess around with your phone, I believe the update for HD7S should be somewhere around the corner.
Thanks! I'm going to check it out tonight and see if that works. Maybe the official is out.
How do you like w7 so far?
Don't other with the update procedure above. Just read this easy way to get the update: http://windowsphonehacker.com/articles/how_to_get_mango_beta_2_for_nondevelopers-07-31-11
This takes you to Mango beta 2 which can be update via Zune Software to Mango RTM.

I really like WP7, for me I really like the usability of the phone and the experience of using it.
My only issue with it is that it doesn't support Arabic (but got used to that since the day of WM6.0)
My friends here call me a Microsoft fanboy because I like my WP7

Yes this was the first procedure I talked about, didn't remember the topic name though
True, I remember when the iPhone didn't support arabic...it was a huge deal.
I'm guessing you're arab? I can read and write arabic, but I'm no arab. Maybe you can tell from my username here.
Anyways, I guess that trick used to work, but I don't think it works with the new Zune software. No one commenting recently has gotten it to work...
I guess I'll wait it out....but that new iPhone/iOS 5 looks too good

You guessed right, I am Arabian.
Khaliq, this is Arabic meaning creator?
I am happy currently with my phone, and iOS5+iPhone 4S doesn't seem that much big of a thing. I think I will wait for iPhone 5 to see how good it is
Sorry can't be of help, hopefully the update will appear soon.
I used this method and updated my O2 HD7

and downloaded my shipped ROM from here

Microsoft has now released Mango for the HTC HD7S: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/features/update-schedule-usa.aspx
Force update worked flawless for me. I did update using my laptop and all you have to do is flip the wireless switch when you click on the "Update" link in Zune.

Hi guys,
I'm thinking of buying a Samsung Omnia 7 right now as there are really cheap in Germany. But I am unsure about a few things which keeps me from buying for now, maybe you can help me? I am currently using a SE Xperia X1 (HTC Kovsky).
First off: NoDo. It's there already or will be there soon. Are any Registry tweaks possible after NoDo is up and running? I don't mind it beeing complicated, is it just possible?
Second: ChevronWP7. It's going to fade away after NoDo, no surprise. Has anyone heard of similar applications in development? Most important feature I guess is sideloading applications on WP7, are there other solutions?
I heard something of USB tethering on the Omnia7. Is that true? Are there any restritcions? Is this still working after NoDo?
What about HTC apps? Obviously the won't install after NoDo, but which of them used to work on a "unlocked" device?
Is there any way of recognizing the device as USB-storage?
Thats it for now. Any help is appreciated Thanks already!

I don't think there is a chevron-like device for after NoDo devices yet, so if not then the answer to your other questions is "no" but I don't know 100%.
I do know there is no way to mount your device as USB storage, only Zune can recognize the phone, the only exception is if you own an HD2.

oh yeah I forgot about that, I hope it's the real deal and actually works.
You don't own a WP7 device yet, but your major preoccupation seems to be unlocking it or tearing it apart. I used to apply every tweak to my phone in previous Windows Mobile.. I'm a tinkerer. With WP7 I have NO desire to go rooting and editing registry and all that. The homebrew just doesn't appeal to me. I wouldn't make this your primary hangup over buying the phone.
The answer to most of your questions is 'No'. My comment on that is 'so what?'
I think the dude above me makes a good point.
If you like to mod, theme, tether, or change anything about your phone then WP7 is not for you.

Yeah, the same way - if you really want a full power of what modern OS can give you currently, WP7 is not for you either.
It's not only about modding. It's about usage.
for day to day use, it's probably the best out of all the current smartphone OS'. However, for more advanced things, it's not there yet. How long will it take, well that is up to MS and how they go about it over the course of the year, but with 3 months pretty much gone now, it doesn't look like we will see much of it till late next year when windows phone 8 comes about.
Thanks for you'r response, guys!
One more question about registry edits: I found the registry edior by Julien Schapman and I read somewhere else that registry edits can be done by deploying a provxml. are there other solutions? Juliens tool obviously won't work after NoDo as it has to be sideloaded...
i own the omnia 7 for about 3 weeks and there were a few moments when i wanted to go back to my nokia 5800, but on the other hand when i saw its incredibly laggy UI, powered by a 330mhz CPU i realized how awesome the omnia with win7 actually is.
ofcourse there are only about 15% setting options compared to the 5800 one's, but eventually one doesnt need the most of them in the daily routine anyway.
so for my needs the omnia 7 is pretty optimal, though i'm missing proper backlight settings, pause-function with the camcorder and some other little things, but i guess not too far in the future there will be a major update.
till then i'm satisfied with whats there..

bro if you are MS you will like to plug all the holes in your OS as well....
i dont think this time MS will like ppl to play with there OS as they did with WM OS...
as right now the NoDo is pushed in batches to individual devices, its not like last time you can go to HTC website and download a ROM and wala...
my pre update update was exactly 10 days late and i dont expect any thing less from NoDo as well...
Yeah I know. Providers have their share of the timing process as well. But it's possible to unbrand the Omnia7 and have a the NoDo Update direktly without any lag.
OK, so I own an Omnia 7, it was originally on Orange. I was able to update it to pre-nodo, however I had to change registry for MobileOperators to 000-88 and then use the VPN trick to get nodo. There I got my nodo as well.
I reflashed my ROM with XENJK1 and then DBTJK1 and I was able to force NODO on both the ROMS until two weeks back.
Recently a few of my games wont run so I reflashed again with DBTJK1, I got my pre-Nodo right away. But now, the problem is that no matter what trick I used before, nothing absolutely works any more, not the VPN and not even the Wifi disconnect.
It seems like all doors to NODO are shut, so is it that my phone is ****ed to Pre-NODO. Having said this, I have been trying about a week every day to get NODO and using all the tricks except chevronupdater due to its suspicious repute, but no success.
Can anyone explain or help?
I read somewhere that Microsoft closed that disconnect trick, I'm not 100% sure about that though.
I haven't been able to get Nodo either. (DTMJJ6)

DTMJJ6, hmm. So, yours seems to be on Deutsche Telecom, if so then have you received pre NoDo. If you may please let me know the status of your ROM.
Just use chevron updater, i used it for pre-nodo and nodo on my hd7 and after that zune popped up with an htc update (that i even wasn't getting with an official nodo i had before) so i totally don't see that not serviciable state that MS advertised.
I used chevronupdater on my HD7, worked a charm, I had no problems and have received updates from HTC after updating to NoDo

Seems like that is just some fluke from MS. Many thanks for the encouragement mates, I shall do the chevron thing later tomorrow.
In a bit of a mess right now and can't figure out whats going on.
I bought a Samsung Focus and unlocked it and updated it to NoDo before its release using the timing trick.
BUT I reformatted it afterwords and it locked back up and I ALSO got the notification from Microsoft that I could update to NoDo when it was officially released for the Focus (though I already had NoDo). I connected it to Zune and got the official release and everything has great.
Now, my understanding was that after having done all this, my phone was back to normal and eligible to get official updates.
But I have yet to get a notification for 7392? When I connect it to Zune, it says my phone phone is already up to date with 7390.
SO, in conclusion, I would like to do either of the following 2 things:
1. Be able to get 7392, the latest release
OR
2. Roll my phone back to pre-NoDo and dev unlock it again and wait for some other work-around to surface. (I can't restore my phone using Zune because the computer I used has been since reformatted. Had I known, I would not have done that. Doh!)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
ATT hasn't released it yet. You either wait till they do, or unbrand your phone to 000-88. If you're on a focus, on nodo, not unlocked, and don't have a pre-nodo backup to revert to, you'll be waiting for ATT to release it.

Thank you munkey. I was confused because I saw some Focus owners got it already. Also, since my phone has NoDo, is locked and no backup, I can't rebrand? Thats not good. Also, is there any other way for me to roll back? Thanks
The only current option for rolling back a focus is the Zune backup. I've seen some talk of using someone else's backup, but have not read any success. Also, I know there are people working on a nodo unlocker, but nothing has come from that yet either. I have also read about some ROM's for the focus, but again, there is no confirmed success there. You can pay for a legit dev account through Microsoft, or attempt to get a free student dev account. Both of these will unlock ur phone, but TBH, it's not really worth the effort just to get 7392. Now, for sideloading and access to reg edits, it may be worth it

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
I did manage to get it unlocked by signing up for a developer account as a student. A very long and tedious process, but I'm glad I did it. The main reason I did it is so I can sideload apps, get custom ringtones, and just tinker around with my phone.
Still no idea how to get 7392 though.
Install the SAMSUNGRegistry Xap, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910911
to edit this registry path:
HKLM\System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\MobileOperator
enter the "value" 000-88
select "STRING" not "DWORD"
press "Write"
connect to Zune, and it should prompt you with the update
if you want, you can return to the ATT branding by repeating the process, but writing ATT-US
EDIT:there is no space in "MobileOperator" the forum does that for some reason
Right now I'm 7390 but I just received a new update message what will the new update change?

I wasn't trying to be dismissive or rude. I didn't have a confident and complete answer myself, so I googled it to get your answer, but there were so many links with lots of info, and I was on my phone, I figured it was easier/better if you read through them yourself.
I'm glad cookie found a suitable link for you.
Oh, and btw, it's a cumulative update, so if you don't have nodo, it will install that too. Worth a mention in case someone is holding off on nodo for whatever reason.

First of all, I apologize for bumping an old thread up. This is my first post here, and I think I might be in a bit of a pinch.
I updated to NoDo using the Hungarian VPN method when it was first published. Unfortunately for me I also carrier unbranded the registry of my device and neglected to apply the "prevent re-lock" tool before updating, rolling back and updating again once the official release became available. My phone hasn't since displayed any update prompts and Zune shows it to be up-to-date (7390). If I connect to Marketplace via WiFi only my carrier's exclusive apps do not display. This leads me to believe that carrier branding is somehow instrumental in acquiring updates.
Is my device now in a permanent state of flux? Exactly how does Windows Phone authenticate to the update server via Zune? I am asking only because I don't want to roll back to the last available backup image to get the most recent update. I first had to do this to obtain the official NoDo release and lost a bunch of apps and settings in the process. What can I do?
So I received my Arrive in the mail today and played around for a little while and decided to take the plunge and load Mango.
Since this has been loaded I've run into nothing but problems. The Zune software won't properly recognize the phone so I can't sync music/apps to it, and whenever I plug in my phone to the computer it tells me I need to update the Zune software, but then goes on to say it's up to date. I can't actually interact with my Arrive through the Zune software.
I've tried downloading the Sprint RUU files and booting into recovery and running the RUU, but it never finds my phone. I've tried this on an XP machine and Win7 machine, getting the same results on both.
Are there any other ways to revert to NoDo? I'm running into nothing but dead ends here and I have no idea how to get back to factory. I realize that people need to buck up when they goof something up, I just thought I was very careful in making sure I was reading through the instructions at least twice and then taking the step.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I didn't just turn this new phone into an expensive paperweight.
Whilst I haven't tried Mango myself, I would imagine most people would suggest going back to a previous backup if one was made. Microsoft have instructions here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsphone/en-us/howto/wp7/basics/restore-a-backup-to-my-phone.aspx
I have no idea if this will work in your situation, frankly, but if you are desperate it might be worth a try at your own risk - perhaps someone can clarify if this is the right thing to do?

I ended up having some issues with my OS that was causing the problem. After a fresh reload this morning I was able to run the restore.bat and properly get my phone back to NoDo.
I'm thinking I might give this another try now that I know I can restore without any issues. I was beginning to think I'd really borked myself, though at 2am you start to think "end of the world" type thoughts with your device.
On a side note - I'm absolutely loving WP7 so far, though it's hard going from my EVO to this. The screen is SO much smaller and the device is noticeably fatter and colors of the LCD are a bit lacking in direct comparison. I think most of it's just going to be getting used to the phone and leaving my EVO at home when I'm running around.
Thank you all for the support. I always forget why I love XDA so much!
u needed to update the Zune client to the latest beta as well after installing mango. that's why u weren't being detected. and the reason the colors look better on the evo than the arrive is because the evo is 32 bit color while the arrive is 16bit color in NoDo. mango fixes that and brings the colors to 32 bit

Interesting. I'll have to take a look at this a little later this evening when I get home from work. I wasn't aware of the color difference. I reloaded Mango after getting the beta Zune client and have my backup ready to go.
Feeling better about WP7 for sure now.
Hello All,
I just thought I would confirm that the 7.8 update is being sent out to our devices.
I have just plugged mine in to Zune, and it immediately said that I had an update waiting.
Just for reference, I have an HTC 7 Pro, that is running the standard UK Rom.
Great to see a wide range of the original devices getting the update, thus far I have it working on my Titan and HD7 and now that I have seen this thread I can let my work colleague know it's available for his 7 Pro.
Differences?
I updated this morning, I can't see much different apart from the start menu.
It seems to be running slower too.

The change log is as follows.
Start Screen: Provides resizable Live Tiles (small, medium, large) to provide for more customization options for your Start Screen.
Accent Colors: Increases the number of available accent or theme colors to twenty.
Lock Screen: Improves the lock screen performance with accidental wipe protection and rotating wallpapers provided through the Bing image of the day.
Marketplace and Xbox: Expands Windows Phone Marketplace and Xbox support to new countries and regions.
Fonts: Enhances the Chinese font and improves the appearance of Arabic and other languages.
Microsoft also notes that the 7.8 update includes many "other improvements" to Windows Phone in the change log.
Odd, we don't seem to be getting the update at all stateside. Tried the method I used to forge Mango (update, click somewhere else, click update again, unplug network cable, wait, nothing). Sprint Forumers are saying that the update is totally shelved for US customers with this phone, because of a manufacturer decision from HTC somehow.

Like we said before, the start screen looks nice, with resizeable tiles, and that's it, some icon changes maybe, but no real improvement underline. It's nice to get an update, but not too much with no real fixes for the problems we are facing. Actually, it should be quite easy for many of those "problems" to be fixed.
