I came from the 3.5 ROM's and am now running the stock + ROMs to get the phone speed and stability back. I would like to know how to use the mail.apk from 3.5 on this rom.
I saved the apk to my sd but when i open it using Astro, it gives me an error.
I tried to delete or rename the current mail.apk in the /system/app folder but i cannot do so there either.
What do i need to do to install the newer version of this application?
Thanks for your help!!
i tried to copy it into system\apps but it just says application not installed.

Hi guys, i'm running the Jachero at the moment but the hero yahoo stock widget is removed.
anyone know how I can add that widget back in or install it?
thanks.
there is a Google app in the market called, "Finance" which offers real-time quotes and portfolios. it gives charts and latest company news....etc (US only) FREE!
There are quite a few other free ones, I searched Market for "Finance" and came up with a nice listing.
you could also just download one of the larger DEFAULT roms and open the zip to the "system/app/" directory and look for the application you want. then copy that to your phone and run it - the installation of that stock android application will then begin.

hi id242, i couldn't find app folder under system.
possible to help me extract the required file?
are you sure that this is not what you are looking for?
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/03/finance-for-android-app.html
I am still unaware of any app written by Yahoo! for Google's Android.
The closest thing that I could find to a Yahoo!Finance app was a program called, "SnappySeeker" at http://www.theandroidapps.com/apps/viewApp?id=5
Best of luck in your searches. cheers!

sry, can link me to some steps on how to do it?
i.e: how to push it? i have the stock.odex and stock.apx from 1 of the rom file.
Unzip the attached file and copy "Stk.apk" and "Stk.odex" do the "Download" folder on your MicroSD card. Then with an android file manager (I prefer ASTRO), navigate to that folder on your phone and run "Stk.apk". The next screen should present you with a prompt asking if you want to install it.
The files came from a "JACHeroski 2.7.3 Port (20090722) [TheArtiszan]" Rom.
Since my test/programming Android phone is still running Cupcake, I have not tested the above detailed directions - so, you mileage may vary.

It's attached further up. It only works up Sense 1.5 though.
I'm on MdeeJay Nextsence 2.5, guess thats why it didn't work.

Simply download a froyo asop rom. Any will work except cyanogenmod. Extact the zip, go into system app, and look for browser. Drag and drop onto root of your sd, get some sort of file manager app from the market, and install it. I think this will work, but i have never tried it.
Until you drag the file onto your sd, this is all on the computer.
Can I get the link to download the file
can someone post up the link to download the stock browser please

I will once I get home and test it out to see if it works. Check back in 30 minutes.
..........thanks
im pretty sure it wont work. i put the browser.apk on the sd card and when i went to astro to install it, it asked me to uninstall the current browser. so i think the only way it might work is if you rooted the phone and then pulled the sense browser and pushed the aosp browser
o i see thank anyway
pushing the browser.apk doesnt work either
how about you just rename the browser.apk thats already in the system\app folder and any odex file in the \system\app folder then install it with the installer app from the market or install command via adb......
hhmmm ????
Nice ROM so far.
Issues I've noticed.
RM can't boot into recovery.
AOSP messaging app still needs some polish.
Also not so much an issue as a wtf? No Radio and no video app. I like both and I believe there is an AOSP Video apk And I liked and used the FM radio, I do relize its an HTC app but It's not bloat IMO.
How can I get it back?
Is there no help to be had? I tried Googling the .apk and found an install zip package to install thru clockwork but that didn't work. It didn't do anything as far as I can tell but it was from an incredible thread so I'm guessing that was why it didn't work. I also tried to copy the .apk from the stock system/app folder to my sdcard using root explorer before I installed the ROM. When I tried to install it after the flash it failed.
What did the fail say?

Unable to install or sonethig generic like that. I may reflash my recovery image rerip out the apk and give it another go. Should I have grabbed the odex (or whatever file it was) as well?

I removed the loud irritating ding noise.
I can confirm it works as I just installed it by pushing it to system/app via root explorer.
seem to me this needs to be moved to theme and apps section

how to install camera.apk?
I am a forum noob trying to figure out how to install camera.apk over the existing system app. I consider myself a competent searcher/hacker but little experience with android beyond a careful root and backup. I tried hard searching the forums and web without success on how to do this. If you can help with instruction or point me to a resource I would appreciate it. Cheers
Instructions for installing apk with root explorer:
1. download apk or apks your sd card
2. navigate to file and copy or move apk or apk's
3. navigate to system/app
4. tap on r/w at the top
5. paste all apks
6. change permissions to match the other apks's in the system/app directory.
7. Reboot
Root explorer is my file manager of choose but any file manager with root access will work
X
So this is a totally off topic, sorta, question about the camera.apk...
I like the Camera on this device. Its fast, very fast but on the ROM Ultimate G2x the camera lags like no other!! But the one on CM7 is smooth and i like that one very much!
So my question is, can i replace the camera on the Ultimate ROM with the one found on the CM7 ROM even though one is running Android 2.2.2 and the other is running 2.3.[?] ?
Thank you for your time!

Buy root explorer or do it in terminal. Its worth it to buy Root Explorer, you will use it in the future.
Super Weird... But I use CM7 (Build 54 with colorized nightlies) I backed up / replaced the camera, as I dont like the CM7 one (since I cant zoom with the dam volume buttons) and applied this .apk.
Gave me a boot loop... I dunno if it was cm7 or andriod commander.
I'm pretty sure you need the lg framework for it to work
Now if only we could patch the apk so it doesnt have issues when below 15% battery. I HATE that limitation.
In that case i use "hdr camera+" app its a really good camera app only thing is doesnt have flash. But other than that is a good camera app.

Hey I get a force close as soon as I try to open it. Any ideas?
Weapon 2.6 and used Root explorer to put in app folder and fixed permissions
Also Have Camera Problems
Hi guys my name is Natalli and I am new here so please don't attack if I posted in the wrong thread.
I believe this thread should be most appropriate.
I am working with a G2x freshly rooted as of today.
Flashed to a "P999_2.3.3_Stock_Tweaked_v1.2.2" rom that I found on this site.
So far everything is great.
MY DILEMMA:
Ever since I updated my G2x from the stock version over to Gingerbread I noticed that my awesome camera app disappeared. The one from the previous version had no shutter sound (which is a blessing) plus the settings were a lot better!
I do not like the camera layout or the position of the buttons.
I'd like to find the camera app that I had before. So would I be looking for the Froyo camera app? Or is it the LG camera??? I am confused please help.
I hate this new camera app, always have and always will.
LG camera is the one your looking for. (That was also on froyo) its ported by flaco, you can find it in the developement section. Its not a 100%, but it works just find in my opinion ( since I don't use the ffc so much)

Ok not sure if this is the right place or what but im a go ahead anyway, i was looking at some custom roms and i notice that some roms had the DownloadproviderUI.apk i tried pulling it and putting it on my phone but nothing i keep getting error messages that the file cant be something.(sorry)
the apk was running on the Triumph and i have a Triumph but its on a custom rom im running a Stock and it cam from a CM7 so is it possible to port the apk file to Stock and how if anything?
The stock rom should have a apk handler with it also, are you trying to download apps from browser and install them? If so just go to settings. Then application . Click unknown resources hit ok, best to have a file explorer to find downloads and install

No really like that, I know how to do that im talking about if i wanted to take a app from the CM7 roms apk file then add it to my SD card and download it to my phone (i know ill still have to do what you said also) but when i do it says "problem parsing the package" but it comes from a triumph rom so how doo i get this to work on the stock roms?
Hmm, just needing the DownloadproviderUI.apk from cm7? Extract from zip then try pushing it to system/apps and fix permissions, then reboot . Should work

That Would work but how do i get it to stick to a rom? like if i added it to the System/app folder then flashed the rom? I got the ICS Keyboard to work by adding the LIB files within the app its self to the Rom then flashed and that works but this app isn't the same.
What from are you going to flash? If its a cm7, it'll be there won't have to do that. If you want to add your apps before you flash decompile add recompile zip then flash

There are a few things that are different with the APK's
if its just a plain old third party app APK, then putting it on the sd card and locating and installing with a file explorer of some sort should work fine
If its a system related app that must be in the system with permissions then theres 2 ways, sometimes one way doesnt work
a. simply open the rom's zip and add it to the system/app folder(sometimes after doing this you'll still need to navigate to the folder and hit install usually itll install itself)
b. the trickier one if a. doesnt work, have the apk on the sd, using a file explorer that will allow you to change permissions, change the system folder from read only to read/write move or copy the apk from the sd card to the system/apps folder, Install it, then switch the folder back to read only and reboot
also keep in mind that if your trying to bring an app from CM7 to Stock some probly just wont work, CM7 is gingerbread based while stock is froyo, gingerbread changed how things like texts, data, camera, and hdmi are read by the phone and how they function or where the files are so it may just not work

you cant, if it was a System apk then Sometimes, you can put it into the correct folder inside a custom roms Zip and itll install itself
otherwise you need to download some type of file manager so you can navigate thru the folders, then just clicking the apk should pop-up and install menu
