help needed: install hero rom yahoo stock (finance) widget - myTouch 3G, Magic Android Development

Hi guys, i'm running the Jachero at the moment but the hero yahoo stock widget is removed.
anyone know how I can add that widget back in or install it?
thanks.

there is a Google app in the market called, "Finance" which offers real-time quotes and portfolios. it gives charts and latest company news....etc (US only) FREE!
There are quite a few other free ones, I searched Market for "Finance" and came up with a nice listing.
you could also just download one of the larger DEFAULT roms and open the zip to the "system/app/" directory and look for the application you want. then copy that to your phone and run it - the installation of that stock android application will then begin.

hi id242, i couldn't find app folder under system.
possible to help me extract the required file?

are you sure that this is not what you are looking for?
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/03/finance-for-android-app.html
I am still unaware of any app written by Yahoo! for Google's Android.
The closest thing that I could find to a Yahoo!Finance app was a program called, "SnappySeeker" at http://www.theandroidapps.com/apps/viewApp?id=5
Best of luck in your searches. cheers!

sry, can link me to some steps on how to do it?
i.e: how to push it? i have the stock.odex and stock.apx from 1 of the rom file.

Unzip the attached file and copy "Stk.apk" and "Stk.odex" do the "Download" folder on your MicroSD card. Then with an android file manager (I prefer ASTRO), navigate to that folder on your phone and run "Stk.apk". The next screen should present you with a prompt asking if you want to install it.
The files came from a "JACHeroski 2.7.3 Port (20090722) [TheArtiszan]" Rom.
Since my test/programming Android phone is still running Cupcake, I have not tested the above detailed directions - so, you mileage may vary.

It's attached further up. It only works up Sense 1.5 though.

I'm on MdeeJay Nextsence 2.5, guess thats why it didn't work.

help: how to add removable apk to roms?

I wasn't able to find info about this until now. But I need to know how to make the apks I include in a rom removable. I guess, maybe, I have to copy into a different folder instead or /system/app. is it right?
thanks
you have to install it in data directory not in system directory. so data/app
ok, thanks, but, if it doesn't exist, should I create it?
no u should not create it because then it wouldnt be a proper directory for your rom, the rom may not recognize it, i think.
which rom are you on? most rom has a data directory, that is where third party apps are installed and where apps downloaded from the market is also installed
this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556962&highlight=enomther
ok i see what u mean when there's no data directory. what you should test out first is go to market and download an app. then see where that app is install. see if it created a data directory or not. it should...
I had a look using root explorer, and there is a folder in the root called /data/app , and there inside are every installed apk, even the ones I installed by astro...
and there is another one called /data/data where I find folder of every app too
ANd another one called /data/app-private (there I found one apk that I downloaded from market.
I try to download a new one
Yup put your apks in data/app
on a related note, is there any way to flash unsigned ROMs? like if I want to drop .apk 's into the data folder of a rom before flashing?

ok your running a reg rom system, thus meaning 1.5/1.6 non hero. i can teach you step by step on how to set up "signing .zip's". its super super convenient!! i promise and its not to hard. just pm me if you need help. its way way easier to flash a rom with whatever apk you want then to push them and hope you pushed them to the right spot.

Daily Challenge apk?

I have searched high, and low for this apk and I keep coming up empty handed. I know the widget is available via a custom Rom, but I rather not take that route just yet.
Is this apk out there?
I tried to take the notepad/task widget from Fresh RoM and install it on a couple roms with ES FIle and it wouldn't work so not sure if you even can do it that way.
Interested in finding out a way to get some of these widgets myself.
I was told if I can't get the apk in this forum, I can't be done lol. My fingers are crossed...
Still searching...
Just meant a few fellow Evo owner's that are also interested in the apk. I guess Im not alone

If you see it in a custom rom, then download the rom, rename it to a zip file, and just take the apk for the widget right out of there and install it to your phone.

Did you get the apk from the system/app or data/app folder? If it's the system/app folder, you're going to need to adb push it to the system/app/ folder using adb rather than package install it.

If so, it's legit just typing three command strings to move the file, and you're set... literally seconds.

I'm not familiar with unrevoked, and what permissions it gives you, but, are you experienced with adb at all? Do you have SDK tools installed?
unrevoked3 is a partial root. I would have to go with simpleroot to do what you speak of.
I need to take some time and sit down for a full root. Right now I'm riding around, and time is not my friend.

[NEW GAPPS.ZIP & APK] New Android Market [2.2.6] for G1(Android 2.1&2.2)[16/12/2010]
EDIT: I've put the new gapps.zip to update all ur gapps . This has to work : ) Just flash this from the recovery . It'll overwrite your old gapps , giving you the latest of all the basic gapps (incl.the new Market )
You can then go to the new market and install the updated Gmail,Voice Search,Google Search,Maps,Youtube app etc.
New Android Market (version 2.2.6) features include:
1.Refund window changing to 15 minutes
2.New carousel with featured apps on main page
3.Widgets and Live Wallpapers categories added
4.Related content added to app page
5.Single page app viewing, all info in one place
6.Max size for apk files increased from 25 MB to 50 MB
Also the Downloads now get paused instead of getting cancelled if there is a network/data interruption
I am not making a flashable update since it might clash with the original Vending.apk . So here are the steps to remove the old market and install the new one.
1) Use adb to remove and install the new market.
a) adb remount
b)Backup your current Market by
adb pull /system/app/Vending.apk Vending.apk
c) adb shell rm /system/app/Vending.apk
Rename the apk you downloaded (MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE RIGHT APK FOR ECLAIRS OR FROYO) to Market.apk and put the apk in the Android SDK/tools folder then
adb push Market.apk /system/app
OR
Simply use your favourite Root File Manager (Root Explorer ,SU explorer , Android Commander etc.) and go to /system/app and delete Vending.apk .
Then put the New Market apk in /system/app
Restart your phone and you're good to go

I have SparksMOD . It should work on all CM 6.1 (Android 2.2.1) and all Froyo ROMS.
Make sure you restart your phone and follow my instructions carefully.
Also try running fix permissions from recovery incase it doesnt help.

You cannot replace or manage Android phone system files through normal File managers like Astro,Linda etc.
Best way I recommend is to Use Android Commander and follow the steps for installing without adb commands.
http://androidcommander.com/
i installed thru recovery and works great
on my G1 with 6.1 2708 is great. install via adb
why I do not see the category widgets and live wallpaper?
Hey..
Pity, it doesn't work for me.
I did it with the Root Explorer. Installation suceeded but i get a "force close" error message, when i try to select a program from the list or to go to "my downloads".
Changing back to the old one without problems.

I used the qr code/barcode scanner in the following link and followed the on-screen instructions. Took it a few minutes but it worked and I have no errors.

Here is the link with the QR code, just use your favorite QR scanner and then open via url or open in browser. It should then start a download, after its done just follow the on screen directions to install (it back-up's the installed markets user data then deletes it and installs the new market. http : // androidspin . com / 2010 / 12 / 11 / new-android-market-update-unofficially-available-for-download/

Hello HellRazorGod. I have a G1. And I just got it rooted with Cyanogen 2.2 Froyo ROM. But then as you know, cyanogenMod doesn't come with google apps anymore. And then so I tried your android market maybe it will work. And before I downloaded yours, I found many market apk files from other source. But then it still wound't work. But when I tried yours. Still didn't work. I tried AndroidCommander. Adb and still with the same results. I open it, and it is just all white, and after about 5 seconds go back to desktop screen. I tried every possible way. And tried all your steps. Even with the AndroidCommander. Can you help me out? I have a Android 2.2 Froyo Cyanogen 6.1.0 DS ROM. Would really appreciate it.
fart23 did you download the gapps .zip file and then flash it after you flashed your rom. if not then you need to go check out cyanogens wiki how to root/install cyanogen rom.

MIUI Weather Help

Is there any other way besides the adb push method to add the database I need to utilize MIUI weather.
A noob & not real sure how to go the adb route...all help will be greatly appreciated.
***Also if I need to post this somewhere else direct me the right way as I am still learning the forum.
I just gmailed myself the corresponding .apk and installed it through gmail directly on the phone. Gmail can install apk files.

Thank you very much. How is MIUI weather by the way?
I can't get it to work either. I've installed the proper .apk for my state, and copied the .db (I've tried both adb push and via Root Explorer) and I can't get it to work. It's stuck on Weber City and when I try to search manually it's still stuck on the first set of states. I'm stumped
For me Weber City has always been there. I have to add my zip and refresh a few times and delete, re-add the widget a few times, reboot a few times etc...to get it to show Miami as default, but Weber City has always been there.
Also turn off geolocation in the widget, it doesn't work.
Posted from MIUI Inspire 4G
Yea I was told in the MIUI Weather forum that the GPS feature only works in China...
I finally was able to get it. I had to rename MIUI_city.db to MIUI_city.bkp, then rename MIUI_city_NM_SC.db to MIUI_city.db. Then I pushed the corresponding .apk. And now I'm able to find my location when searching. I'm not worried about it holding onto Weber City...I'm just glad it was finally able to display my location!!

Yes you can. If you can identify the .apk file of a certain application, you can simply copy it to
another device and install there.
This is something I used to do whenever I see my friends mobiles. I will checkout if they have any cool
App. If I like any, I will find out the installation file (.apk extension) and I will Bluetooth/superbeam it to my mobile
and install...as simple as that...
And my easiest way to find the apk file is "just search for 'apk' in file explorer"....

This simply does not work for the Sammy apps they are kinda rigged to the framework .

This is the reason why non of the sense apps are ported to CM ROMs

Have you tried direct copy inside system? Since you said you've tried Titanium Backup, it means your device has been rooted right?
Enter your system and change its permission to copy the application there into your memory card... hope it works...
