My captivate with Gingerbread 2.3.5 and CPU 1.2Ghz - Captivate General

I finally update my captivate with Gingerbread 2.3.5 two weeks ago. Its a very big change. For one thing my battery life is 10 fold longer. With Froyo stock 2.2 my battery life was 6 hours max. Now I unplug at 8AM and I'm good till 10PM.
I also go it rooted with one click odin. and now overclock my cpu to 1.2. Very stable for now.
My Quadrant Score:
Stock Froyo 2.2 = 1150
Overclock
1.052Ghz = 1354
1.1Ghz = 1441
1.52Ghz = 1532
1.2Ghz = 1763
I've read somewhere that you can overclock to 1.6. But i don't want to take any chance.
Hope the battery life stay the same

Nice, what ROM are you using right now?

I'm running pinnacle 1.3 ROM (gingerbread 2.3.4), with mtcarey's ki1 kernel (ext4 lagfix enabled) on the stock 1.0ghz clock and I just got a 25xx quadrant score. And i'm averaging ~3-4% battery drain an hour too. You should try it, it's smooth!

Yeah I have to try that. Is it available on xda. Right now i'm running leak UCKJ1 2.3.5 and tegra overclock.

Yeah, its XDA, here:

I've been using it for awhile and its great. I don't stick with ROMs very long but this one is nice.

I'm running MIUI and I get about 1-2% an hour drain. And it's now 2.3.7. And I also overclock to 1200 mhz.

yes and i have too flashed to gingerbread 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 the lastest and it runs very smooth except for one minor glitch and when i plug in my headphones to make and recieve phone calls i only get audio out of one side of my headphones but iget audio out of both sides when streaming music and all other media applications but when i flash back to the stock rom i get audio back in both sides of my headphones when i make or receive calls...... any one else have this problem?

does overclocking to 1200 bring about a "noticeable" change?

I have had the same issue. Guess its just the way GB is, would like to have phone calls use both left and right channels though like 2.2 did.

Does for me. But it might not for you. Each phone is different in regards to how they respond to OC/UV. Some can oc to 1600mhz and remain stable. Some can't get 1200 stable. Only way to know for sure is to try.

GPS Doesn't Work
I upgraded to 2.3.5 and now the GPS sees no satellites at all.
Agree on the battery being better, but I'm screwed without a proper GPS.

[Q] 1.27 oc

Does anybody else notice that the sgs4g isnt stable OC'ed after 1.27??
not really, left mine at 1.3 for about 3 days with light, moderate, and heavy use. I didn't notice anything but beauty. recent reboot with a couple of mods and i haven't OC'd it again. (don't see much of a need for it with the kernel/roms out there)

Depends on how sensitive the chip is. Mine has minor stability issues at 1.3 but at 1.25 or 1.2 is fine.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
I had mine at 1.3 for a bit and it was just fine, but usually I just go to 1.2.
I had mine oc'd to 1.2 just to play it safe but now im running KC1 with the bali uv kernel and i really dont see any reason to be OC'd. Both KD1 and KC1 are fine without OC once installing the new kernel. THANKS TO DRHONK!!!!!!!!!!! My battery life has increased by at leist 30% now that my phone has had a couple of days to adjust. I also use an app called Green Power Pro wich has many features but one i like best is the ability to have your data turn off when u lock the phone and back on once u turn on the screen again. This prevents all the things that run when data is on from draining the phone when its on but not in use. I have seen a big difference in bat life since using this feature on this app.(data is your internet connection so when the data is off u still get your calls and text as long as ur not using an app that needs internet access for either of the two.)

What are u running? =)

I was just curious and was wondering what people are running, here is a example
Obviously g2x phone
2.3.3 GB w/ 2.4 Weapon Rom
w/ Faux 1.2 ext kernal
Clocked at 389min 1552max
i just got 4239 Quadrant rating.
Running Go Widget
So i had to lower the clock too 1200 and its more stable, far as the rom i love the rom, i recommend it. So far everything works.

Doesn't it run HOT being overclocked at that speed? I am running stock GB unrooted and my Quadrant Score is 2666.
so far so good, i did everything today installing the rom and kernal, its been 1 hr and no reboot no overheat.
I did a full wipe, wipe cache install 2.3 weapon rom
reboot into cwm, wipe cache, installed 2.4 weapon no wipe
set everything up, i rebooted again to do backup, cleared cache
installed 1.2 faux kernal and BAM! ran quadrant

LOL my g2x just crashed, i guess i gotta lower it. But ill prob be still in the mid 3000 on quadrant.
CM7 (114) nighly on Fauxs 3.8 SV 1.4 kernel

389/389 screen off
it does't run hot at all on here i average temp around 90F
might spike to 100F on hevy use.
quadrant is roughly around 4000
CM7 119

+1 - I have to agree with you. On previous phones I have tried various roms, overclocked, etc. and always wound up back at stock. I find all the drawbacks of various things not working quite right is not worth having a smooth, reliable device. Plus in the past I have soft-bricked a couple of phones and hard-bricked one to death. So with my new friend the G2X I am leaving it stock and not even rooting it. It runs quite well and I am happy with it just the way it is.

I agree usually, but the G2x is already buggy running the stock ROM, there is practically nothing to lose from experimenting a little with a trusted source.
I will say I don't understand wanting to overclock this particular phone, at least not running that way full time. I can certainly understand pushing the hardware to it's limits to see what it can do, but stability trumps speed every time for me. If the G2x were slow and laggy I could understand, but it's definitely not.
Personaly, I'm running Weapon G2x 2.4 on the stock kernel. I really like the TouchWiz implementation on Whitehawkx's ROM, especially the toggles in the notification bar.

need advice about the current roms

Ok, ive been doing some research and it looks like eagals blood is prob the rom for me. I was wondering if i could get some advice on this, i am currently unrooted so im stock , this phone is killing me when it comes to battery life, the stability is so so, but my real problem is battery life i charge my fone about 3 times a day. I am a crazy heavy user, fb, texting about 200-400 message a day, phone calls every now and then, games (words with friends), and just random internet stuff. so my phone is like my life! My friend has a samsung captivate and he can go 12-14 of heavy usage prob not as much as me but he doesnt have it charging all the time like me. I was wondering what rom i should use to achieve great battery life and not lose out on stabilty or speed, look doesnt matter bc i use UTO kitchen.
Are you looking for an Android 2.3.3 or 2.3.5 ROM?

Hey man if you want a 2.3.3 rom that is stock the best is Xboarders stock tweeked rom it is super stable and everything works and the battery life is great. I use that ROM myself when I am in a stock mood. You hit it on the head with eaglesblood it is the best rom out there. I use the 1.08 verion it is based off GB 2.3.5 it is a mix a cm7 and EB goodness. The battery life is also excellent on it but you will not have A2DP (thats BT stero music) And you cant flash the stock froyo LG camera and there are APN issues that A hard reboot fixes every time. All of the problems I just mentioned are not specific to EB they are however specific to GB 2.3.5 for the g2x. It has something to do with Nivdia not relesing something drivers or sorce I dont know what exactly but thats why. You have to make a choice. I hope this helps you. Oh I alklmost forgot I am a heavy user like you except not text mssgs or phone calls but net data data data I had to change my plan to the 10 gig plan 5 was not enough. So what I did was I got the extended battery for the O2x it fits perfdectly and it was only $30. Before that I had 2 stock batterys with an external charger that worked ok too but I hated changing the battery half way through the day you should look into that. Good luck man.

i dont mind i want something stable, fast and great battery life...what does A2DP mean...im going to try EB 1.07 bc i hear no1 has problems with that...
A2DP is Stereo Bluetooth Audio... That's only important if you listen to music using a Stereo Bluetooth Headset.
For battery life, I'd recommend a CM7 based ROM, with either a stock, or undervolted kernel, such as faux123.

I agree with FatalityBoyZahy,
I did see a battery life increase after installing CM7, but the most dramatic change in battery life came after installing faux's 0.4.1 undervolted kernel.
And no the speed and stability don't drop, at least not with faux's kernel.
I would imagine that a 2.3.3 stock GB based rom such as Xboarder's tweaked or EB 2.3.3 plus faux's stock GB kernel would produce the best battery life, as I remember experiencing a huge jump in battery life from CM7 to stock GB.
However, I feel like besides the great battery life, the stock GB roms are ****ty compared to CM7 in terms off features and stability.
For example you can't do Netflix or gtalk video on stock GB.
Also I didn't experience this, but some users experience reboots and other such nonsense on stock GB.
So in Summary:
- stock 2.3.3 based rom (EB 2.3.3 is your best bet here in my opinion) + faux kernel = best battery life
- cm7 based rom (EB 2.3.5 or latest CM7 nightly) + faux kernel = best choice for both great battery life and better stability/features

No. The only risk is that you might run into stability issues, but using morfic's UV11 it isn't an issue.
Undervolt, use SetCPU profiles, keep wifi/gps off when you're not using them, and keep your display brightness low. That will net you the best battery life.

I believe the faux kernel is here: [Kernel]CM7 [2.6.32.45] (v0.4.1) OC~1.55GHz/UV/SLQB/BFQ/EXT4/Voodoo [Aug-27]
Looks like the CM version of the kernel is preferred by some in that thread (has to do with the battery driver).
Question: In terms of flashing the kernel, should I flash the ROM first and then the kernel? Or the other way around? (Or does it not matter?)

Always ROM then kernel.
And I prefer the CM version of faux's kernel as well. Supposedly the DS version has better battery life but I've never been able to notice because I'm always busy pulling my hair out over the jumpy and wildly inaccurate readings.

There isn't really a need to change kernal because this phone is fast as is. I tried it, oc'd it and never saw real time improvements. I actually underclock mine to 816mhz and it still plays all games the same.
This phone operates the best for me on Baldwin's kang cm7. Its fast and reliable. Either way you will want to use anything that uses the external sd card for app storage.

G-ma's stock G2x. Updated software?
You mentioned the speed of the stock build. I am curious if GRANDMA has the recent software update. It's V21Y and brings the phone up to Gingerbread 2.3.4 (as opposed to 2.3.3 previously. My wife has been on it over a month now w/o rebooting. It's an awesome stock build! My G2x is rooted and running recent Cyanogenmod real well too. The stock is so good now that even I sometimes restore a rooted stock nandroid for ZERO bugginess!
Joining in the dredging of an old thread - I loaded V21y on both my and my wife's phone - both run slower with noticeably more lag than stock Froyo. But no dreaded Black Screen Of Death, which is what my wife hated (she is on call sometimes). So I guess I'm happy. Someday I should try a dev rom I guess... But I NEED WiFi calling and a2dp - not sure if I can get that in a dev rom...

Yea she got the update 2.3.4, the stock build is awesome fast, faster than the htc sense obviously but I still love the htc sense animations are just better on sense if sense could be just as fast as stock id loved it even more lol. Stock makes a big difference even the single core G2 is fast on stock faster than the mytouch even with 2 cores. I've done the test I tap the menu at the same time on the 3 phones and the mytouch is the slowest. However you do see the difference when not on the UI, for example on apps, the browser, and loading obviously the mytouch wins on that aspect 1.2 ghz dual core

theres still some minor issues with the 2.3.4 got one rare SOD and a few odd reboots. cm7 has none of the issues. guess thats the tradeoff for proper quality of calls and a working gps.
I downgraded my baseband back to the March 2011 firmware, loaded up Hell Fire Phoenix with Faux's stable kernel, running V6 SuperCharger, and a Team Carbon theme that I'm currently modifying to my specific likings.
This phone flies for me. Everything works and it looks great while doing it. I really don't see a need to get a new phone, unless I decide I want a larger screen.

[Q] Stable,fast ICS out?

I tryed some ICS Roms from the Forum the last days.
All of them where build from the official release and everyone says "stable".
Fact is that every ICS rom i tryed had bugs.
So my question now: Is there a rom which is realy stable and fast?
Roms i tryed:
- Ultimaste ICS -> wallet closes, market crashs, stucks on home screen,
- Nexusbeam -> graphic artefacts, battery sucks,
- Original Rom -> graphic artefacts, poor performance, no options,
Try aosp43. Everything works just fine.

What they said! OICSv43 works perfect. Use the supplied kernel and after it boots, after you set every thing up, go to recovery and fix permissions. I use nova launcher, status bar mod, and it works perfect. All the camcorder effects, mms, dialer etc. No lag here and all apps I use are working with gpu rendering on. This rom made me completely be happy w my ns4g until sprint gets the nexus.
Hell w my extended battery I got 6 hours screen on time and after 18 hours hit 15%. All on 3g and 5 hours on wifi. The android os use is reporting high but it is not affecting my battery and therefore I am not concerned. Really really good rom and I can't imagine the ota being better
Sorry. Actually aosp43 is only for NS4G and since you mentioned nexus beam rom I think you have the GSM version.
Im uploading my release soon, your welcome to try it. Im not going to post a thread just yet though
