Ok, ive been doing some research and it looks like eagals blood is prob the rom for me. I was wondering if i could get some advice on this, i am currently unrooted so im stock , this phone is killing me when it comes to battery life, the stability is so so, but my real problem is battery life i charge my fone about 3 times a day. I am a crazy heavy user, fb, texting about 200-400 message a day, phone calls every now and then, games (words with friends), and just random internet stuff. so my phone is like my life! My friend has a samsung captivate and he can go 12-14 of heavy usage prob not as much as me but he doesnt have it charging all the time like me. I was wondering what rom i should use to achieve great battery life and not lose out on stabilty or speed, look doesnt matter bc i use UTO kitchen.
Are you looking for an Android 2.3.3 or 2.3.5 ROM?

Hey man if you want a 2.3.3 rom that is stock the best is Xboarders stock tweeked rom it is super stable and everything works and the battery life is great. I use that ROM myself when I am in a stock mood. You hit it on the head with eaglesblood it is the best rom out there. I use the 1.08 verion it is based off GB 2.3.5 it is a mix a cm7 and EB goodness. The battery life is also excellent on it but you will not have A2DP (thats BT stero music) And you cant flash the stock froyo LG camera and there are APN issues that A hard reboot fixes every time. All of the problems I just mentioned are not specific to EB they are however specific to GB 2.3.5 for the g2x. It has something to do with Nivdia not relesing something drivers or sorce I dont know what exactly but thats why. You have to make a choice. I hope this helps you. Oh I alklmost forgot I am a heavy user like you except not text mssgs or phone calls but net data data data I had to change my plan to the 10 gig plan 5 was not enough. So what I did was I got the extended battery for the O2x it fits perfdectly and it was only $30. Before that I had 2 stock batterys with an external charger that worked ok too but I hated changing the battery half way through the day you should look into that. Good luck man.

i dont mind i want something stable, fast and great battery life...what does A2DP mean...im going to try EB 1.07 bc i hear no1 has problems with that...
A2DP is Stereo Bluetooth Audio... That's only important if you listen to music using a Stereo Bluetooth Headset.
For battery life, I'd recommend a CM7 based ROM, with either a stock, or undervolted kernel, such as faux123.

I agree with FatalityBoyZahy,
I did see a battery life increase after installing CM7, but the most dramatic change in battery life came after installing faux's 0.4.1 undervolted kernel.
And no the speed and stability don't drop, at least not with faux's kernel.
I would imagine that a 2.3.3 stock GB based rom such as Xboarder's tweaked or EB 2.3.3 plus faux's stock GB kernel would produce the best battery life, as I remember experiencing a huge jump in battery life from CM7 to stock GB.
However, I feel like besides the great battery life, the stock GB roms are ****ty compared to CM7 in terms off features and stability.
For example you can't do Netflix or gtalk video on stock GB.
Also I didn't experience this, but some users experience reboots and other such nonsense on stock GB.
So in Summary:
- stock 2.3.3 based rom (EB 2.3.3 is your best bet here in my opinion) + faux kernel = best battery life
- cm7 based rom (EB 2.3.5 or latest CM7 nightly) + faux kernel = best choice for both great battery life and better stability/features

No. The only risk is that you might run into stability issues, but using morfic's UV11 it isn't an issue.
Undervolt, use SetCPU profiles, keep wifi/gps off when you're not using them, and keep your display brightness low. That will net you the best battery life.

I believe the faux kernel is here: [Kernel]CM7 [2.6.32.45] (v0.4.1) OC~1.55GHz/UV/SLQB/BFQ/EXT4/Voodoo [Aug-27]
Looks like the CM version of the kernel is preferred by some in that thread (has to do with the battery driver).
Question: In terms of flashing the kernel, should I flash the ROM first and then the kernel? Or the other way around? (Or does it not matter?)

Always ROM then kernel.
And I prefer the CM version of faux's kernel as well. Supposedly the DS version has better battery life but I've never been able to notice because I'm always busy pulling my hair out over the jumpy and wildly inaccurate readings.

hi, i have a thunderbolt and the batterylife sucks. any suggestions for a rom and kernal for the best batterylife? thanks
IMHO there are no black and white answers to this. It depends on how you use your device - more for voice/text or more for data, where you are in relation to the towers and how often you are moving between 4G and 3G.
The one bit I will attest to through experience is that the Gingerbread Sense ROMs chewed through battery a lot more than the Froyo ROMs. (Except Cyanogen Mod 7 but there are radio issues with that. Ones I have learned to tolorate as it is my DD.)
Regardless of rom, you will get max battery with imoseyon's kernel, battsaver mode, 1ghz max + whatever min your phone can handle. Froyo roms get marginally better battery than GB roms. I have not tried cm7 but I have read more than one person suggest it gets less than Froyo or GB.

Froyo 1.66 Stock (plainjanev3 I think is the rooted version). Guaranteed best battery life among the whole bunch. with moderate use, you can go a full day.
Never had any problems with any of the BAMF ROMs
I am going to build a solar powered charger. All supplies bought from Radioshack for around $30. This way, I can carry a charger with me anywhere I go.
However, I am running gingertheory, and battery life has been pretty good. Can go all day at work and lose about 60% with heavy use.

I'm going to second this one, The gingersense roms total kill my battery, but cm7 sips it slower than any other rom in my experience. It's totally functional for me, with the exception that I can't receive vcards in MMS, and the MMS issues are well known. It's my longest running DD currently.
How is CM7 working now? when I had one, it would drop data, boot with no data, and the battery drivers were all screwed up...how is it now? Have a lot of the mistakes been corrected from the original G2x's that were shipped? (reboots, data drops, etc)...??? Any help would be appreciated. Tired of this Single core phone, and found a good deal on a G2x.

I've been running MIUI. WiFi Calling isn't working yet (which sucks) but I'm using Faux's 4.2 Kernel and getting great battery life and very little issues.
With Faux's kernel, WiFi will sometimes fail which requires a restart, and sometimes using USB Mass Storage will lock up.
Sounds bad, but aside from WiFi calling not working, the other issues are pretty rare.

For me, I had absolutely no reboots at all on the newest version until I went and flashed Faux's OC/UV kernel. To be fair, my battery life is plenty better, just a little unstable. Weapon by itself is amazing.
EDIT: Forgot to say I came from 2.3.5, so I came from a complete wipe.

Its average for me, looking for a stable ROM also. Ics is a little buggy still, need something very lightweight.
i Think MIUI and Oxygen are very good for Battery ;-)
It seems that most people seem to tout MIUI as the trimmed-down, fast, good battery life ROM. (Never tried it myself as I like all of my extra features )
I don't know if it was just me but I had miui for months and the battery life was just a little better than ics roms. Is there any rom that stands out in term of battery life. If not,I'll just keep ics.
I am a battery saving natzi.
Using the Oxygen ROM with GlaDOS or Franco kernel with deepidle on and google talk without video installed (to make deepidle work right).
Ive also had great success with oICS V40 (now on 41 seems same) with the Matrix 12.5v Kernel and SmartAssv2 @ 1000/200. I have not been able to get deepidle to cooperate but it still get good batt life.

try this ics kernel, http://goo.gl/QAuKi its Trinity TEUV(TEI6S). its undervolted, underclocked at 880mhz, and its bus/gpu is overclocked 10% at 220mhz. its fast and great on battery. i use it with cm9, but it should be good with any ics rom
You don't even know lol ive tried and tested that decent battery but I can't live without the mods... solid performance tho

With all the mods, they r all good as well (icup speedy, matr1x, sg-uv etc.). The new franco.kernel is released and it runs very nice. It doesn't have mods yet but the battery life and performance are super. Also like simms said, the barebones trinity kernels are the best in battery life.
I'm running NexusBeam with franco's latest and I got like 25 hours of battery after average use.

TEUV All the way for battery performance
Matr1x v15.0 is out, has all the features and is undervolted.
I get 20-25 hours out of battery with around 4-5 hours screen on time.
Do you think using running CyberGR-MOD|NS.NGN ICS with Matr1x 14.5CFS, i could get decent battery life? i'm asking cuz i want to install ROM on Gf's phone, she still running CM7 from when i did last time, but i don't want to put a rom that lacks features. i want one feature rich that will not suck on battery life
I can't get over 2 hours screen on time MAX at all anymore. I'm running Peter Alfonso's Bugless Beast GB with GlaDOS 1.12 kernel undervolted to 880 MHz and 20% screen brightness. Even with a new Battery and a full wipe and clean install I still get terrible battery life. Anybody have any ideas? I'm dying here. Is my phone broken?
Hey guys, I bought myself a Nexus S one month ago and I've flashed about 15 different ICS ROMs. Is it just me or are there almost no stable ICS ROMs? All of them had random reboot issues apart from AOKP and CM9. I had no reboots on AOKP but the clock got stuck every 2nd day, so my phone wouldn't wake me in the morning which is even worse. CM9 I liked a lot, but I couldn't phone in the hands free mode (don't know the propper name of it in english) because the mic wasn't loud enough. Currently I'm on ras cream sandwich and it reboots while i'm listening to music which is really frustrating. Oh and before i forget, I always flashed matr1x kernel and used smartass governor, no OC.
Is there any stable ICS ROM apart from CM9 and AOKP? Or can i fix the other bugs?
Thanks in advance!
Your problem is the kernel, not the rom. My phone also reboots while listening to music in the undervolted matrix kernel. Stay with rascream and flash the _thalamus kernel and see how stable it is. That kernel is really stockish and stable. If you don't want to flash you could try to raise your voltages to stock values in nstools. Some phones like undervolting, some not. ;-)
Verstuurd van mijn Nexus S met Tapatalk
hm I didn't know matrix kernel was undervolted, I thought that's only the case with trinity TEUV kernel by default well I'll try another kernel for the time being and see how that goes.
Yeah. Some of our phones can't handle the voltages mathkids kernel supplies outta the box unfortunately. Either adjust them back to the stock ones or search for another kernel. I prefer either thalamus or Simple Kernel. I just recently flashed the latest version of the former and its great. You can try Air kernel if you want a few more governors and whatnot.

Like.. that's what STOCK is all about.
The people that made the phone are the most interested in making a stable ROM, no compromises.
Most stable and fast rom
Try APEX ROM 1.1.2 (latest release), that's what i'm using until aokp milestone 6 comes out. there is no lag, no reboots (just if u OC too much),...
Slim rom with no tweaks is smooth. Try it and u will not regret it.
Good luck
Vs Nexus S 4G
MIUI roms are very stable these days.

Well it differs from phone to phone. My phone is good with Matrix kernel. Might be one of the best custom kernels to run for my phone if not the best. Matrix isn't a compromise for my phone.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
For several days I'm with Slim ICS and Matr1x and I have no problems with random restarts. No OC and no tweaks!
Try CyberGR ROM
I have installed CyberGR ROM and I have not suffered any reboot. I followed one by one all the steps of the development part and I'm quite happy with it.
Good luck.
Well, if you really want stable, get Stock 4.0.4. I'm on 1100+ hours on uptime without a single reboot... The only thing I've done to the stock 4.0.4 is getting root.
I would also like to know. from my own experience, stock 4.0.4 is best, but can CM9 very be made that stable? I'm running it now with ink kernel and no tweaks and it seems slightly laggy :/ should I flash brainmasters tweak pack?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Bugless Beast hasn't given me any issues. I've rebooted to flash other kernels but the only two kernels that have given consistent performance are Simple(stock with bln) and thalamus. Once I get my new battery, I may see how long I can go without rebooting. But if you want rock solid, go with stock ROM. Hell, my cousin has an EVO 4G and has almost 1200 hours up time. Lol.

AOSP+ definitely belongs to this category. Stock with a few useful modifications.
You should try AOKP again
I know you've already used AOKP but you should try/flash it again. I'm sure that the clocking was freezing because of some flashing issue.
Go to this link and download the milestone-5 version (m5) of AOKP. Also, you should use this rom with matr1x v19.5 cfs.
Milestone means that it's stable, so you shouldn't have problems with it. I use this rom and matr1x 19.5 on my daily device and haven't had any problems nor reboots. Great performance and great battery life too. Besides that, the rom is highly customizable.
Apart from stock, Have you tried BuglessBeast? Very stable. No need to flash any custom kernels.
if ur using ra scream use one of the trinity kernels. its super stable, super smooth, and long battery life
im using this black ice rom, in love with it .. shud try

I searched the internet and apparently I'm not the only one with that problem. I tried AOKP twice (i think build 32 or something and m5), always with matr1x kernel. Could this also be a kernel Issue?
I don't know that much about Android, but what I found out in the past days is that my Nexus S can't handle UV. I also get very high Android OS battery usage sometimes but I don't know why. High meaning Android OS once used more battery than display even though i had 2h screen on time. I suspect it's got something to do with titanium backup not restoring apps correctly, but that's just a stab in the dark.
Currently I'm on Apex v1.1.2 with stock kernel. No random reboots so far. I didn't restore apps via titanium backup (which was a pain in the ass). So far Android OS seems to use way less battery than before. But yesterday I had something like SOD when received a call while using TuneIn, so I had to pull the battery and call back. Not what I call stable.
I know that's a lot of text and probably also a bit OT sometimes but I hope some of you will read it , I'm not really a flashoholic and I'm getting sick and tired of switching roms, but I need my phone to be reliable. I'm really tempted to just switch back to stock ROM with stock kernel at the moment...
the things I'd really like to have is bln, notification toggles and stability.
