What is the ultimate goal? Will you be flashing a custom Rom or a kernel? I would say that you should get any OTA updates first and then there will be a way to root and get additional features. Check out this guide to help you see a potential order to take, using CWM 3.2.0.0 R4c (recommended as made specifically for Xoom) and the Universal Xoom Root zip which can be used for all Xooms/all updates. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798

Take your time and good luck!

thank you very much
the xoom is now on 3.1 rooted and with cwm
my main purpose is playing videos from my NAS so i flashed the tiamat 1.4.4 kernel
everything is fine i can use the sdcard with es file explorer but when i go to the settings and sd card the settings app crashes
the sd ard also ist show in the stock xoom file explorer...what can i do?
i think about flashing tiamat 2.2.2 but i cant find out if cifs will be working there

also i dont know: when i flash tiamat 2.2.2 do i also have to flash a diff kernel or is it included??

Well, the proper kernel is included in the rom. If you are on that update, you could also flash Tiamat Rom one.zero. That was a nice, stable rom.
I'm not sure what you are saying about the sdcard and settings app crashing...could you explain more?

Thats what happens:
When i go to settings-> storage (the place where you can see how much space is used) it crashes.
Can you say anything about cifs.ko in "morey"?
but overall it seems to run good, so i think I'll wait til the problems with the market in 2.2.2 are solved before i flash it.
thx
edit:
i got the same problem as jkumda here(last post):

No suggestions??

[ROM] Desire HTC WWE 1.21.40 NoRadio NoHBoot Rooted Signed

Here the rooted standard rom for HTC Desire:
Desire_HTC_WWE_1.21.40_NoRadio_NoHBoot_Rooted_Signed.zip
Facts:
Version: HTC_WWE_1.21.40
No radioupdate
No hbootupdate
rooted (Superuser 2.1 included)
busybox integrated (some rootapps need those tools)
already signed
zipaligned .apks ("less ram consumption"...)
Download: http://rapidshare.com/files/394960117/Desire_HTC_WWE_1.21.40_NoRadio_NoHBoot_Rooted_Signed.zip
@MadMic So this rom is very near at the stock htc rom and so of course it contains sense.
No Mirrors pls.
Install with recovery mode, as usual.
Flash on your own risk.
Don't need to do a wipe if you come from a stock rom.
if you get any problems, then perform a wipe.
Edit2: Some user reported problems with Root/SuperUser.apk, they had to reinstall http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828.
So if your SuperUser.apk doesn't have root after installing the firmware, pls install it from the link above. (Just flash it via recovery mode!)
(This one is the right version of SuperUser.apk: http://bit.ly/brI0EV)
Edit3: I think the root/SUperuser.apk problem is happening when you wipe before/after the flash. However, if you get have any problems, just flash http://bit.ly/brI0EV and you will be fine.
Nice work matey - quick confirmation, this doesn't contain Sence????
Sweet work
Yes it does, it's stock 1.21.405.2 with SU access
where is download link ?

How can we add app2sd to this zip? i must to mod boot.img or somthing? anyone could upload a zip with app2sd on it
1.21.405.2 + su + busybox + app2sd, nothing more, nothing less
Thanks again for your work!
so, if i come from a stock rom unrooted, can i use the AM Desire Recovery v1.1 directly? or i need a root ir first?
Sorry I am pretty new to this. Can someone tell me what the benefit is by installing this ROM? Thanks!!!

Don't know really which one his kitchen does add ... but i think the normal App2SD .. not the plus version.
Evilandi666 -- Thanks very much for this! I hadn't quite got my head around post-root upgrades and have been trying the 1.21 OTA update since 5pm both through the phone OTA interface and the Desire recovery mode. This brings the firmware back up to the O2 number (or possibly above)! I couldn't see that anyone had got back to you on the integrated apps2sd, so even though I might not use apps2sd I gave it a whirl -- just finished installing and looks good. I'll update after a play around.
Must I root again? I installed at 1.21 stock ROM before this then I found out that i lost my Super User Access.
Tested the A2SD version and got a boot loop with wiped ext4 partition. Wiped partition again in Recovery, got a boot loop. Reformatted partition to ext3 using gparted, got a boot loop. Currently downloading non-A2SD version.
Been running the version without APP2SD for a bit over a day now and it hasn't given me any problems yet
Thanks again

THIS ROM MAKES THIS PAD ROCK NOW
For now its back to using IUW to do either one of the versions..
you will also need to have done a U-BOOT-NAND upgrade at some stage.. and need to be showing at least uboot - 0.6.1.5 (587) at bootup at the right hand bottom of our screen.. if you dont have this then you will need to do it..
1: Here's a new link by Smarkies that has a great pictural step by step flash guide

CONFIRMED #3925 2.2 v2.1 bootable sd install. One step process. Great job!
(for those wondering I have 6.1.5 (559) uboot so any at that or later should be allright)
EDIT: IF you have at least 6.1.5 (559[or higher]) showing on the Infotmic screen when booting you should be able to 1) download the .img file at the link above, 2) burn the .img file to an sd card using win32diskimager (or winhex), and 3) insert the sd card into slot between 2 usb ports while booting to update to 2.2 v2.1.
PS Not only does camera still work clearly for me on 559, camcorder records now.

Use IUW to make a bootable sdcard.. this is first version.. still stable, it is posted for those that dont want to go straight in to flashing a unwrapped image file.. if you use the instructions you should be able to just dump/flash this to your usual bootable sdcard.. stick it in the top slot and it will upgrade to this version.. no usb needed.. (note.. you will still have needed to have upgraded your "u-boot" at some stage... read further down for this..

I installed #3656 first and skipped the UO file when installing this and everything worked great. I installed the newest UO 0.6.1.5 () too and root seems to work after that too.
What I really like with this release is that swedish language is included (was missing in all updates after 1623) and ofcourse that it's Froyo!
To get Titanium Backup to work you will have to copy your old TitaniumBackup folder from the SD card to the new created when you installed TitaniumBackup, after that TitaniumBackup will find all your backuped apps.
It seems like both Flytouch2 and Flytouch3 are at version #3925, maybe the are compiling new versions for both pads at the same time now, so we can count on a new version when Flytouch3 gets one?

Bugs so far.. will update as the forum grows so that we have a reference page at the front.. saves a lot of reading later if this grows too much..
Please report your bugs and we can get people to work out fix's for you..
1: Ndrive does not work in this version
2: Small amount of people experience has Wifi connection/dropout problems - yet to find a fix..
Also no confirmed tests on Ethernet connections as yet - will confirm once we get some feed back - I am in Singapore airport and wasn't able to use the the Ethernet plugin for net.. so will check it out over the next few days as I will be in different Hotels so can test connections on the road
3: No apps2sd --- hope some one smarts finds a work around.. it would be killer if we could redirect some of the apps to see the SD1
A note on this...
in 2.2 V1.8 the file structure is sdcard local ram storage.... and ... SD1 - sdcard storage.. and SD2 -
in 2.2 V2.1 file structure is Local ram storage... and SDcard 1 and 2
both are locked in to using the local partitions for program storage and program data storage..
Which is a shame as things like ebooks and heavy graphic programs it would be nice to send the storage to SD1 or 2
This is fixed.. look at Smarkies thread for work around..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074251
4: Synchronization contacts and google calendar - Mixed bag on this one.. some get it some don't...might be a cache thing..
Fix once again provided by Barsuk .. check posts from Capeschae and Barsuk for fix.. they are from posts 121 pg13 - 126 pg 13
5: Paid Market apps - This is because of the China location block from Google more on it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551929&page=3
there seems to be a fix thanks to Barsuk..

I installed this official Froyo too. It's very, very fast, more than all the different firmware tested from here!
Some remarks/questions:
- The camera is not working anymore, the preview screen shows green or sometime other colors...
- A lot of apps are pre-installed, meaning that it is impossible to update them (Dolphin Browser, Skype, Facebook etc...)
- Is it possible to install Flash Player on it? Will it work? Does anybody tried?
- Is it possible to overclock the Flytouch2 with this rom? Is the kernel overclockable?
Thanks,
Tuc

After trying a few flash websites, I noticed that Flash Player is ON BOARD in this Froyo ROM!
But colors are something between colored and black&white...and crash in fullscreen mode.
The colors issue has been fixed on the new Flytouch (512Mb RAM) - the following quotation from Androidtablets.net explains how to proceed:
Flash Player issues RESOLVED - new flash player .apk
I have tested this on my ft2v2 with TCH rom 0419, and it mostly worked! Flash now played with correct colours and almost no lag once buffered. It did however crash when I attempted to go full screen, so not perfect yet. Opera mini and Maxthon Browser use the youtube app for youtube website if you have it installed. This works excelently. Flash worked well on other flash websites, I tried an emag site and it loaded where it would not before.
Here is the new apk: Adobe flash for flytouch3.rar (Thanks koti)
Password: koti
Install:
1) use Root Explorer to rename file \system\app\install-flash-player.apk to .old
2) Reboot Flytouch
3) Install the above .apk
I tried youtube and also some eMag sites.
NOTE: This is now included in Tim's ROMS 3b and 3c.

yup, I'd like to see this too..

wonderful! many, many thanks.
hi,
Will this work on 3.2.1? I copied it /system/lib/modules but when I try to openvpn I get cannot allocate tun/tap dev dynamically.
Is this just a bad file for 3.2.1 or am I missing something else?
I did install busybox and openvpn.
Thanks,
Your tun.ko kernel module needs to be compiled specifically against your kernel source. I don't work with stock anymore, however the developer kernel now floating on xda have this module specifically rolled into their kernels. You would have to root however to install these kernels.
Thanks Kevdog..
I searched and i couldn't find any for 3.2.1. I am the rooted stock 3.2.1 already downloaded from xda. Just need to tun.ko for 3.2.1.
If u know where to find, please send me the link.
Thanks.
Ok 3.2.1 -- Stock or Rooted? What kernel are you running?
I got my rom from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278214
Thanks,
Ok -- I know this is a lot of work, however I tried it myself and I'm not sure if the rom you linked to is corrupted or my download process failed. (***Rant -- why all the developers who put out files don't match the file to an md5 sum so us users can verify the integrity of the dowload -- I'll never know!!), but I can't seem to extract your system.img. You'll need a tool such as unyaffs to unpack the system.img and then search around in the modules folder until you find the tun.ko. Or you could just flash a Tiamat 3.2.1 kernel which has these modules built in!!
I checked checksum and it was correct before I installed it. Not sure what u mean, I thought this rom doesn't have it period.
I also tried to use tiamat 2.2 which says its for 3.2 but it got stuck at boot for 30 minutes at the honeycomb screen. I thought maybe tiamat ker
Net doesn't support 3.2.1 yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200063
As far as i know this is latest. Doesn't mention 3.2.1. Didn't work for me.
I don't want to go to tiamat rom to avoid a full rebuild.

Help updating Revolver

Im on revolver 3.7.3 and ive had no updates. Revolver parts sez theres none available but there is! Anyone know what to do?
The base updates require you to download it via your browser or computer because of the large file size so the next one for you would be the 3.8 full rom update but i would go ahead and download the full 3.9 update (here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1173230) put it on your sdcard and go to clockwork to flash it

[Q] Questions about CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.6 First-time Install

Hi, I hope this post is in the right section (please move if not).
I have lots of experience rooting and installing custom ROMS on my Samsung i9000 phone, but this will be my first time installing a custom ROM on my TF700T. The tablet is unlocked and rooted and has the latest Android JB version and bootloader (4.2.1, 10.6.1.14.4). I also have TWRP 2.5 installed and working. However, I have a few questions before I start - sorry if these seem really noob.
1. My current SKU in Taiwanese (TW) - do I just use the WW edition without making any changes?
2. I've never used DATA2SD before - do I need to format the SD card and add the /Data/ directory manually, or does the CROMi installation do this for me?
3. The tablet is currently setup for two users (myself and my wife). Does CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.6 support mutli-user?
4. If I back up all the current settings using Titanium, do I need to do it in both profiles? Or should I simply do a simgle backup from root?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers, R

4. If I back up all the current settings using Titanium, do I need to do it in both profiles? Or should I simply do a simgle backup from root?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers, R

1. Yes just use the WW. It really dont make a difference but I wouldnt use the US rom unless you are in the US.
2. I have never used DATA2SD but by what I have read, you must use GParted to format the SDcard a certain way in order for the Mod in the CROMiX installer to see it. You MUST use GPARTED, you cannot use any other without risk of more problems.
3. Yes CROMiX supports multi-user. CROMiX is just the stock ROM, but de-bloated and extra tweaks.
4. Titanium will backup all apps. Though I do not use other users, I would think if you back it up from the Owner User, it would back up everything, but I do not know if the owner can access other users info though.

I can answer the 2nd question, You need to do all the partitioning and formatting on your PC (under Linux preferably) with GParted, CROMi does not do the preparation. As noted in the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962507.

No problem, as long as you have adequate command of the English language, which you do seem to have.

Just make the two partitions, and follow the prcedures to the letter. Your ROM will do the rest.

I haven't tested this, but since it is based on Android 4.2 it should work (it provides exactly the same functionality as the stock ROM, so if stock does it, CROMI(-X) does it, too).

I have no idea, so I'd better shut up here.

Wow. Thanks very much for the very quick replies. I'll use your info and get installing today.
Thanks again!
You may find this useful. It discusses backing up multiple user accounts in 4.2 with superuser (assuming ChainsDD but could be CWM) and TB. How this works with other superuser apps (superSU, superuser X) is TBD. Here is the key finding:

Non-Primary Users CAN get root access. I used superusers multi-user Mode (owner controlled) and TiBa gets root access on my secondary users. Without superusers multi-user feature TiBa doesn't get root rights...i tried it...

I was also wondering about DATA2SD. OP did you format your SD card and get it to work? When you install ChromiX it asks you if you want to install Data2SD. Will that option not work if you dont have your external SD card formatted correctly?

Yes, you have to correctly format and partition your external SD with Gparted for Data2SD to work.
Read the forums before you do this. Data2SD can be a mine field and does not give you the performance boost it once did IMHO.

For the love of God use GPARTED to partition it seems a long effort to go but using any other will and has done to me broke my micro SD.

Hi, sorry for the late reply... I haven't been checking back on this post. To answer your question... in the end I chose not to install DATA2SD option. I did successfully install CROMi-X 4.6.1 and everything is working really well - browsing with Chrome is amazingly fast compared to stock!!!
The only problem I've found so far is with some of my Play Store Apps not being able to load - there were a couple of apps that installed just fine on Stock Asus JB (latest version 4.2.1) but under CROMi-X they say they are incompatible with my device. I guess it probably has something to do with the DPI being used (I used the 213 DPI which was default selection during the CROMi-X installation). Might check this out in the developer thread.

I've updated the boot loader in the first post of the CROMi-X thread to include the latest TW boot loader now.
Also it seems the multi-dpi version of the play store I am using has some issues showing all compatible apps. I have an alternative version to test which will hopefully resolve this and then I can release a patch.
