I 'm using an HTC inspire and I'm chilling in an airport and I decided to turn on my wireless hotspot and left it unpassworded. Is there any app for me or any method where I can find which ips and how many people are connecting to it? I'm not 100% sure what to type into Google so I thought someone could help me out.
Also if anyone can give me some terms to Google or articles for further info that'd be awesome. Thanks.

Tethering Android devices to adhoc mode access points (like other phones) is always a problem. There are usually ways around it, but they seem to be device-specific. In my case I ended up needing to edit a couple of config files, I'm not using an Incredible though.
Ok. I'm just learning how to tether. I'm kinda a noob on that subject. What does advoc stand for. Also how can I tether to my computer so that I am using my phone for internet. I have a desktop not wireless. I have installed PDA once and I used it to text. But now I tarried to install it again but it will not let me....

I remember seeing an app where you can actually view your computer's homescreen directly on your phone and control is. What app is this?
Also, do you need to be on the same wifi to control it or could I be away from my house and still control my home computer from my phone?
TeamViewer is your answer.
You can find it in the Market.

Sweet, thanks! How exactly do you set this up? And can you control the computer when you aren't on your home wifi? And does anyone need to be at the computer to "activate" something?

You go to their website and download the PC or MAC or Linux client. Then you set up an account from the client and make sure under settings you tell it to allow all connections and tweak the settings to your liking.
Then go on your phone, log in to the app, select the computer and boom! Your desktop shows up.
I'm not sure if it works on 3G/4G since I don't have a data plan but its flawless over wifi. Anf it does work outside of your home wifi network.
And no, if you tweak the settings no one has to be at the computer to "activate" it.

Sick!!! Good to know, now I can access my computer anywhere....
The best one is Logmein
It even supports my dualmonitors. Definitely worth it for this app guys.
I use team viewer, i have it controlled on my netbook, desktop and phone. and i use a common password so whereever i go I can always access all 3 things
very useful.
also, choose the setting that doens't give you a new password everytime you end a session.

I know this is a brand new phone and this isn't the correct forum, but one doesn't exist for this specific model.
So I realize no customized roms, but I'm looking for a way to enable WiFi tethering.
My wife has this phone. I have the Galaxy S 4g (no CM for me sadly). My stock image allows Mobile WIFI tethering.
Hers Does also, but it brings me to a T-Mobile screen on the device tethered asking to pay $15/month for it, whereas with mine it just works.
Is there another application I can get for this to work?
Do a search in the market for wifi tethering; barnacle seems to run well (for all android phones).

A google or meta search engine search wouldn't hurt as well.
Off hand pda net should work as well. I bought the pro version for my g1 worked like a charm.

Don't those apps require root?

you can also change your user agent string on your computer to match the one on your phone. That is what I had to do, and then it will take you to some mobile versions of websites, but that is no big deal for most. At the bottom of most websites you can choose mobile or classic view.

It does require paying and a driver installed on each computer you're tethering to. It uses USB.
or you could just change your user agent string like I have said.
i helped my friend set hers up and i tried the quick fix by downloading quick settings in the market.... and then you can check the settings and unlock the hidden mobile tethering option. I wasnt able to get a solid connection at the time, but i didnt reboot the phone or toggle airplane. it showed up and my computer saw the connection, but no go. Im purchasing the phones in a few days and i will try to do the onetouch root, and i'll let you know how that goes
Question is there any root app out there that can tell my phone its on wifi I don't have wifi that home so some games won't download if your not on wifi I have a 4g phone help

Are you talking about the market giving you a warning that the file may be too large to download over mobile data? If so, I got that message for World of Goo (~50mb; had wifi symbol in market) and I just pressed OK and it started downloading over 4G.

I have a fix for this. It just depends on what your trying to do with the wifi.

What you asked is impossible (to trick the phone and make it think its connected)
Create wifi access point with your phone and then connect there!
Thats what you want and what problaly dont working but use search...in Neo or Arc forum is 1thread and long discussion how and is it possible.
Cheers

Is that even possible? My phone disables wifi when making a hot spot also i'm sure since the wifi is being used to broadcast it can't be used to connect to any
Swyped from just about every ROM in the HD2 section
Are you talking about downloading from the market, cuz unless your carrier blocks it, I've never found anything on the market I can't download over mobile data (even if it gives me the warning dialog). If it's not in the market, I've downloaded files like 900 mb or more. Not sure what the problem is unless it's your carrier, in which case, whatever you do to trick your phone still won't trick the provider, I think.

buy a $15 wireless router. Tada.
I think he's talking about games from like gameloft and stuff, That require wifi only to download the extra game data. That's what I got from of his post at least. And to answer his question... I have no idea.

If you root your phone, you can use the built-in hotspot application.

In regards to the two apps above, WiFi Tether worked very well for me before I patched the above.

Only difference that I can tell is Wireless tether for Root Users doesn't work and Wifi Tether for Root Users does. They both look the same but the latter has an additional option to change device profile and switching that to Galaxy Nexus (CDMA/LTE) allows it to work.
Use the built in tether, they don't charge anymore, no app needed

They don't charge for tiered/share data plans... Speculation is they do charge for unlimited users.
We don't know what the op is on.

tank you...nice post
If I'm not mistaken from a convo with Mr Verizon Store Guy, they stopped charging for tethering because of the rediculous amount of workarounds for close to every device that render their paid service pointless.
However, I heard somewhere online theres a clause for abusing the network in you end user contract associated with fees, but I'm not sure and didn't look into it too much. I don't use it too much and am not worried about my limits (cue wifi), so it'd prolly be wise to check yourself.
Long story short: search around as there are a number of ways as previously outlined. But should you choose to go bananas and over indulge in torrents or roms via 3g/4g, be aware of a potential bill the size of congressional legislation. Tether responsibly as bandwidth is shared by all network users. Don't be THAT guy
