[Q] Which is the FASTEST ROM til now? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello
Noob
sorry if this Q was asked, but could not find it in search
Which is the fastest ROM one can install on the infuse?
I don't care about ANYTHING but the practicality of the device - and that means SPEED!
So which is it?
Thanks so much

fastest at what? 3d? video decoding? internet? benchmarks? what?
if you want killer benchmarks then miui with journalling disabled, stagefreight enabled and other random tweaking and overclock can give you 4000+ in quadrant. but the 2.2.1 Rom gives you faster framerates in 3d gaming. as well as faster data speeds. you decide what's best gor you.

Thanks so much!
I meant fast in the sense that everything MOVES fast. I just used my wife's Galaxy S (not II, the first gen S), and it KILLED my infuse which runs Refuse V1/7 rom.
When I say killed, I mean that the phone is so much snappier when moving through contacts, opening apps (even the PHONE APP!!!), and literary everything.
Now I am no genius, but the differences are NOTICEABLE.

miui is known to be snappy. but I can't stand the theme or lack of an app drawer.

You could add an app drawer : launcher pro or the like. I also didn't care for the standard Miui look. It's pretty easy to change it, though.

App-drawer fixed.

I would say serendipity and infused 2.2.3?

Desire Z or Nexus S??

Should I trade in my Desire Z for the Nexus S?
I'm mostly after browser speed and everyday performance
What happened to the nexus sense port? I had a galaxy S before and it was always slower to the original desire but with ginger on the NS it just might do the trick.
Are you guys satisfied with the NS especially coming from other android devices?
If browsing speed is your priority, I would suggest you wait a bit. Currently the stock browser is rather laggy.
Laggy even with overclock, custom roms (cyanogen, nscollab and infinity) ?
Does cyanogen have the auto text reflow function?
I use my Nexus S since 3 months. It's fabulous.
Choose the right ROM and Kernel! It will be smoothest!
Great experience during 2 days without any charge or FC.
GNS is a very nice device. Buy GNS and flash CM, then enjoy)
Nexus S all the way. Desire Z is old news. I'd rather choose Desire S
Personally it was a bad idea to ask for an advice in a nexus s forum . lol.
anyway, a fair answer for me would be, there is no big deal of a difference between the 2 phones. If you were to buy one of these, then i would have said nexus s but since you already possess the dz, then no need to make the change. speedwise they are the same. the difference maybe comes from the gpu but you said you are only for browsing experience. i think you should stick to the dz until you get something better.
you do have amazing devs back there... i am sure finding a good custom rom is not a problem.
Just 3 hours ago, SuperAOSP Rom created by SUPERTAMEL, has changed the whole browser system
No more lagging issue, just pure enjoyment of browsing
I guess, you come to Nexus S in the right time
Development on the Desire Z has pretty much stalled with the keyboard being the biggest limitation. Even the Desire has better roms for gingerbread. I've owned a SGS before and the browser was indeed a little slow so I should expect performance to be on par to that. The SGS wasn't that bad but I switched to the Z mainly because of the LED flash which is very important to me as a flashlight
What ever happened to the NS sense port? I was looking at some vids over at youtube and they looked really smooth with some minor issues and non working features but nevertheless usable! Was the 0.3 build the one that caused the problem with the IMEI? What exactly happened?
What's the difference in real life performance between SuperAOSP, INfinity and Cyan?
Netarchy is the best kernal option available right? In layman's terms, what does proton voltage do and how do I know what settings to use?
Thanks for helping a NS noobie

Well, sadly that Samsung has put the most important file "EFS" at a very insecure place. And, we never realise that until we find that Nexus Sense has "wiped" the whole EFS data too, making all the IMEI number being the same
So far everyone is trying to get it fix, not a single news yet, but soon

SUperAOSP, is the rom created with extra setting known as SupSetup
Infinity is created by Jonathan Griggs where he is very keen in ANdroid and added lots of different features.
Cyan 7 is the nightly build where different bugs and fixes are keep updated and fixed.
Kang's Cyan is the lighter and better version of Cyan 7.
Muiu is the Iphone version of Android (Use this rom if you like iOS interface)

Netarchy or Trinity. Both are equally good.
Both has OC and UV kernel.
Proton voltage let you customize the voltage you wanna set for each frequency and it's only usable for Netarchy kernel.

I come from a desire and i am very much dissapointed in the browsing experience of this phone. It's not hardware accelerated so rendering flash content or bigger images is a pain. If your only looking for that, better stick with the desire z. I've tried all roms btw and I always end up using opera mobile.

So no real difference in performance between cm7, kangs, infinity and superaosp except preference? What's the best rom for me if I need BLN and vibrate on call answer?
How do I know the best settings for photon? Or can I just use default?
Finally got my phone and this thing is wicked fast! I've never experienced a phone out of the box this good! Screen is yellowish as usual though Speakerphone volume is excellent as well!
Browser seems to be very good, not super fluid but good enough. Not as stuttery as my old SGS. Mighty tempted not to flash a custom rom because it's already very good!
Cm7 is recommended, it will change the experience totally and it has text reflow after zoom. I personally use the nightlies a lot but it's up to you, they might be laggy sometimes.

Or you can use mine too.
I tested and using it for 3 weeks haven had any reboots or lag.
-100mv for 100,200,400,800mhz
-50mv for 1000,1200
1400mv for 1300
1450mv for 1400

Thanks for the help guys really really big help I really really appreciate it!
The browser on superaosp is much smoother but I encountered some instances wherein it just would not scroll the page even after swiping the screen multiple times. Perhaps it's the way I swiped the screen? switching to my left hand which was holding the phone made it much better.
BLN and vibrate on answer working perfectly!

Im pretty satisfied with this phone at the moment, with my headphones on this thing can produce way better audio than any HTC phone I have tried. Bass is booming and vocals are rich.
My only quip is the battery which never reaches 100 percent like my old SGS. A calibration should do the trick..I hope.

[Q] Why is the Sensation so sloppy and sluggish?

In all seriousness, does anyone really know the reason? It seems to make a mess of the hardware. Bad software maybe? What are peoples thoughts on this. Also if you state that it is "smooth" please post your previous phone, because if you came from a G1, then yes this is smooth to you. I just thought this thing would be flying around like crazy but its simply not.
The software isn't optimized for the hardware. This phone should be a screamer and extremely fluid given the CPU inside of it.

Posted with nook color running cm7 and dals OC kernel.
i dont know what you guys are talking about, i havent had ANY lag with sense 3.0, the only lag i experience is with certain apps, but again, as aNYthing24 said, and ive posted numerous times, 2.3.3 is NOT optimized for our hardware, and until we get 2.3.4 or ICS, this fone will ALWAYS "seem" slower than a SGS2 or an "older" htc device that is s-off rooted running cm7 :/ (my HD2 appeared to run "faster" at certain task than my S4G, but its purely because of the hardware/software restrictions)
this "lag" you are experienceing is either due to the 3d rosie transition effects that you arent used to, or there are too many apps chewing up the ram
Few options...
Uncheck the "tell htc" thing
Uncheck the "check for software update" thing
Disable syncing for those apps whom you dont use. Like i dont use stocks and news so i have their syncing disabled.
I hope it will work for you.

Except you can't disable HTC animations.
The phone is OK. Sometimes scrolling through menus it stutters. I have a lot of bloatware also disabled through titanium backup, along with sense UI stuff like Widgets; I use launcher pro. It has gotten a lot faster from that. It is so slow because of the rom on here. Couple this phone with cm7 and it would probably be quite fast. Its not the fastest phone in the world though.

less Ram, no optimization, Sense too heavy. all of that is on HTC.
Mine is not sluggish or sloppy at all...
The home screen and app menu scrolling could really use some hardware acceleration help

I also am having the same issues underlined in some of these replies.
I installed launcher pro, and it seemed to run much faster, except for some annoying jitter when I activate the launcher or scroll through apps. I suspect this will be addressed in an update, as my G1 was running CM6 with launcher pro, and it wasn't lagging at all.
Back to Sense 3.0. Yes, it does lag, even if ever so slightly, and yes, this is HTC's fault. Sense 3.0, although it adds a lot of eye candy, just doesn't handle the memory and processor efficiently.
On a phone with 768 MB of RAM and a dual core processor, how is it that Sense 3.0 seems to eat up almost all of the RAM and leave you with about 100 MB, according to the Task manager? This is some serious bloat.
I can't wait for some stable CM7 build to come out. HTC Sense 3.0 is nice, but I'm not sacrificing speed and efficiency for eye candy.

Remember, there is only 568mb of ram available since 200 is reserved for the gpu. But yeah, it seems sense is extra bloated, because accounting for all the apps that it says is running, plus my current free ram of 72mb, sense plus the os seems to use up around 350-400 mb

No, this is just giving you the placebo affect. Our Sense UI is a bit laggy although it's not unbearable but sitting next to my thunderbolt it's clear that there's more lag here then there needs to be. I'm certain it can be fixed with a larger software update. Until then i don't think there's any box we can check or uncheck to correct the real problem.

It is still a fast phone, but in comparison to others that are out there it's obvious that this the animations on the home screen and menu's could use some tweaking.
I think the touch screen issues may be part of what makes this thing feel slow. Coming from an overclocked N1, then an OC'd 1228mhz EVO 4G w/cm7, I noticed how good this thing felt the first 2 days.. Then a factory reset, ruu, nothin gets it back. A randomly unresponsive touchscreen feels a lot like a sluugish/slow phone.
lets just sum this thread up right here, Once rooted you'll see the things that the development team for HTC failed to do. This phone is great..but it doesnt matter how great the hardware is.. if the software is underachieved.

What phone did you have b4 the sensation?
Before root, I had a Vibrant running touchwiz. You really wanna talk about lag. This phone flies compared to touchwiz. And if you look at touchwiz 4.0 on the gs2, its a new version with the same screen to screen lag. I really don't notice any hang ups on my phone with all animations, 3D effect, and weather lockscreen. I'm still waiting to get that weird fast swipe touchscreen issue that other people had/have.
Build date is 5/26 with a Sharp screen

[Q] What is the best ROM so far?

I follow the development thread every now and again. Recently so much stuff has sprung up i am confused. Reading it tells me so much and I don't want to install every single one to find out properly.
I currently have
[ROM]MiuiXt_Final_V2 optimize english pack (update 29/6/2011)
which is pretty good.
But now there is Wanhus, CyanogenMod variations, XDA special?
Whats the difference, whats the most improved one? Help!

The Wanhu and Special are similar but different. The Special is the way to go (but not yet b/c Hellmonger is working on the stuck at M problem). Wanhu with MZ patch works very well according to Libertymonger. CM6 is also very good-customizable, but it is still in development and may not be what you are looking for quite yet.
My suggestion is to go to front page of all three and see specs and what you want out of them. Most of us can't really stay on a ROM for more than a week anyways, so we are constantly flashing over and over to tweak this or mess with that.
Good Luck and always make back ups.
If I had to choose between any of the 2.2 ROMs it'd have to be WanHU stock, no patches. But I have to say my priorities have changed a lil after trying out each and every ROM. Stability issues have bothered me alot with most of the ROM's and I found coming from the 2.1 signapore SBF with Wanhu over it was the most stable. Not to mention the stock look, improved battery life and overall functionality. But people's tastes might be different. The special is based on WanHU with alot of customizations, from the theme to the inner workings of the ROM, and it is still in developement so there are some boot problems. Also people don't like the korean number format which is fixed in the special. CM6 is pretty cool too, loads of customizations right from the settings but its not without its problems, eg the stock google camera app doesnt take pictures at full resolution and there are also other tiny bugs here and there. I'd say try the special, or wanhu and watch the CM6 development.
I actually don't know when I will be content with the version of ROM on my phone. Theres always new ROMS released for any phones, and I always have an urge to update it to the latest. I think its becoming an obsession almost.
as a guideline, I wouldn't recommend any 2.3 roms from experience. I don't think our phones have the overall capacity and stability for 2.3.
And its also true about the battery life. 2.2 seems to drain battery on my phone faster.
Khalpowers WanHU
I would have to say for now, until Hellmonger releases his Special Hellmonger edition, Khalpower's WhanHU steelblue is the best, Very Very stable, ram is very stable between 50-85 constant, and when you kill apps it holds steady instead of just dropping again. Only downfall with it is 20% battery increments(being worked on) and phone number format( also may be fixed). If we didn't have Hellmongers Special after it is made stable, Khal's would be my choice for now. It is fully functional with fm radio and tv out and whatever else. I think Hellmonger's mod's to it is more to do with the whole phone like camera and recording and things too maybe. I know CM6 is super super fast but khal's is fast enough for me plus can handle the games and things. I will take fast and functionality over superfast with half functionality. My 2 cents! stick it in yo pocket or cash it in! lol
The CM6 rom is a potential rom to be the best... However there are several issues to fix like the camera/camcorder application(8mp/hd recording), FM etc....
As of now, I'm using the original Wanhu stock rom with the latest update from Mioze, Dark Froyo Theme and ADW-Ex launcher... overclock at 1200 MHz, 75 vsel, this rom rocks..... very fast and snappy.
After been useing cm6 its the best.
No memory leaks.
Its very compatiable with ardoidiani openrecovery.
You have reboot the phone everyday.
It blazing fast.
No radio support who cares its a crapy radio any way.
I have test them all and CM6 is by far the best.

Cm6 is very competent in my opinion. Was on miui before this and I must say cm6 has beaten our miui rom in stability and speed. With stability I mean the general absense of force closes and reboots.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
I'm looking for the exact same answer and I thinking I leaning towards the stock roms.
Because most of those I have tried proved to be unstable at some point. One made my camera lose some features, the other made the fm radio stop working altogether.
And finally the last I've tried couldn't run Skype well, it would crash misteriously. Now I'm back to the stock rom, only this time is rooted and a newer version. So far so good, happy to have a stable phone again. I get enough headaches and crashes from my laptop and pc.
CM6.
My reason its the best.
1. Have not had reboot fot five days.
2.you can under clock it to 650 and fast as hell.
3. Memory avg aound 70 but it can go high 110 i have had this high.
4. When under clock much better battery life.
5. The most staible rom i have used on xt720.
Many more reason picking this rom.
You need to use ardoidiani openrecovery with cm6.

That's weird.. I don't overclock cm6 and it runs smooth at default 720 mhz. I then overclock it to 1 ghz, and back to 720 mhz, and its sluggish. I cannot imagine running it lower than 720. Not to mention by average free memory has gone down since i installed it a week ago. Average was 70-80, now its like: 20-30. I use autokiller memory optomizer and advanced task killer, but it still stays at 20-30 free mbs.
On the brighter side, battery seems to be extended a couple of hours for me on this rom. I can get 2+hours of phone call, texting all day, and some web surfing and game playing in for about 14 hours and have 20% battery left. It has yet to crash and restart, and I love the themes. It is really fast for me at 1 ghz. This is all updated over top the Cincinnati Bell froyo 2.2 "update".
I dont use minifree or any taskmanagers their a wast of memory.
I manage program memory through ardroidiani openrecovery.

I also agree that CM6 is the best. I only have reboots every few days. FM radio and Camera as well are things I can live without.
so its between wanhu and CM6.. interesting, no-one has the miui rom as their top choice....i really like the sync, brigtness, data, gps switching on the fly on the notification bar.
Do wanhu or cm6 have this features? saves space and reduces amount of widgets needed. Also anyone know if MIUI has a push messaging problem?

Some things about camera on CM6: the menu that pops up for setting preferences (the top most of the six icons) actually scrolls, but it's impossible to have known that because it doesn't look like that at all. Also, milaq's CM 6.3.0 has updates to the camera--6.3.0 for XT720 should be out today or tomorrow depending on how testing goes this evening (it's built and sitting on my disk ). Mostly the CM camera doesn't offer to crop images to widescreen format by chopping off the top and bottom--so people expecting 8MP to be widescreen maybe get confused (I haven't tested this yet because of the camera updates that are in 6.3.0).
The other somewhat hassle with CM6 at the moment is that video playback isn't on par with WanHu/XDAspecial yet. Software decoding works as a workaround to playback some files, but WanHu/XDAspecial seems to be the media king. I also don't think HDMI output works yet on CM6, but it supposedly works well on WanHu/XDAspecial.
I agree with mchlbenner on the pluses of CM6 having tested Dexter 1.3, MIUI V2-V4, WanHu and the Cincinati Bell Froyo.I personally find that CM6 has the least Forced close and reboots and better power consumption of the ROMS I have tried.
IMHO, I reckon we cannot expect these modded ROMS to be 100% perfect since it is the work of the community as there will always be some small lingering issues - just try all the ROMS and then decide which ones suit your needs the best or closest.
haha jus as i was about to flash cm6 ..the final xda special hellmonger has been released...spoilt for choice again!

[Q] Dlev Stability

I have S7 right now. If anyone has switched, or used both, if you could answer the following...
-Battery Life, how does it compare between the two?
-Smoothness, once again, how does it compare? I normally run 1.4Ghz OC, so I know that might help butter things up.
-Stability, any problems besides the no sound first call? It seems to be getting updated regularly, which is awesome.
That's all for now
Dlev is the best

... Can you expand on that at all? The OP had three specific questions and you didn't answer any. You just stated your opinion and who knows if you've even tried Serendipity to compare the two.
I really liked S7 but it just decided one day that it was not gonna work. Everything started force closing. So I moved to CM7 but it was good. As for Dlev I didn't like the looks of it. So I was on it like maybe 1 hour or so didn't have issue with in that hour.
Sent from Optimus-Prime's Samsung Infuse
I've been on both and I like things about both.
S7 - Good battery life, great stability, great performance..
--It is outdated, sometimes has the battery drain bug.
Dlev - Excellent battery life, like the theme, great stability, is sometimes "choppy", is newer version the S7.
--The developer is active and fixing problems.
If S7 was 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 JVT/JVT it would definitely be my choice of ROM.
I would go for DLEV since it's 2.3.4 and doesn't have the battery drain bug, and has a lot of great features.
MIUI ftw...much better in my opinion. Battery life can be tweaked with setCPU settings so that pretty much fixes that...only issue is that 3d in rendered like 10000000000 times slower so games WILL lag A LOT. other than that...every other category you can think of is A+. Unbeatable in smoothness, theme management and eye candy. It is stable too I have not encountered any situations where it got unstable unless u overclock it to 1600 at 1600mV! That will kill it right away, but yeah...MIUI rocks. One more thing i dont like is that it like half the themes are chinese and there is no AOSP theme all of them have wierdo icons and stuff so that is pretty much really annoying.
Only problem for me is usb connectivity. Tried it without debugging on and all I got was a kies screen with no recognition from my pc (win7). With debugging on it just goes to a charge. I'm gonna play around with it some more, but everything else is super clean and smooth.

I don't want MIUI on account of the bluetooth issue, and I play games so there is that too. But thank you for the suggestion.
Anyone else on S7 vs. Dlev?

This guy ^^ really loves his MIUI lol but yes I've had both...Dlev, didn't like the theme of it and for some reason was choppy every other boot or so, and had data issues, got tired of it and flashed S7 and haven't changed since. Great battery, stability, speed, only negative is its still 2.3.3, not really a big deal for me.

I came from S7 to Dlev about a week ago. I had HUGE battery drain problems with S7 that weren't being fixed with a reboot, or uninstalling apps. I've been extremely happy with Dlev, paired with the Daily Driver kernel the battery life is very good, and the kernel makes charging faster. I have had no stability problems with the new update, I had some problems with the first one and the Touch Wiz launcher (fixed with a re-install). The new version has Go Launcher EX installed, which is an excellent theme-able launcher with lots of eye candy tweaks. Smoothness even at stock speed with all animations is good, would be even better if overclocked.
Dlev is the best for me, which has been running great all the time. I have not tried CM7, but since Dlev is actually based off of the captivate (very like the Infuse if you did not know), which seems like it would work better with the Fuse. Ha Mohammad_Adib knows I like it so much this from Android Forums ha. I would probably be running Infused though, because I just like the feel of running a rom that is actually meant for the Infuse, but with no updates for now I just have nothing to look forward to on that rom, where Dlev may just be my fav now.

[Q] Lag with new 4.0.4 ICS?

I'm suffering lag on my Nexus S i9020a after the OTA update to ICS. Most of the time the launcher lags when switching from page to page. However sometimes it will be completely fluid. It's strange... It goes away after boot but then it comes back again. I noticed that I don't get lag on the stock wallpapers..? Anyways, it's very frustrating. For example, right now my phone is running smoothly, but in a matter of minutes it will start to lag again..
Also I was rooted before the update and when I updated I lost root but still had the superuser app.. Could that have something to do with the lag or something?
Any help would be GREATLYappreciated.
THANKS
Anyone?? Please??
I never noticed stock 4.0.4 is smoother than 4.0.3 ... And 4.0.4 potentiolly slower a bit .... But for sure 4.0.3 was god damn smooth for me and no lag at all...BTW I don't keep too much stuffs and apps because I don like slow systems ... A reset to factory and wipe everything can be useful ...
And to tell you the truth , I am started to feel that this Nexus S is dying for me for its very inferior data capability , rediculus 200-300ms pings and awful DL and UL speed compaired to SII or the T mobile blaze 4G

I did a reset twice and deleted the superuser app and it's much smoother. I also stopped killing processes and that helped a lot too. (when you hold down the home button and swipe to get rid of the task)
From my research, I concluded that killing tasks actually slows down the phone in the long run.

My ping is 50-150 . And my download speeds are 500-1000 KB/s. Of course I'm on a different network.... Anyways back on topic... I haven't made the upgrade yet. Don't know if I want to ditch all of my amazing features and MODs for next to nothing.

Hi! Android has a method to kill processes when it's necesary but installing programmes like "Task Killers" just slow down the system much more (because it stays open in the background) and contradict with the method of Android!

Urko
PD: Made a little bit with Google Traductor, I'm 16 years old.. xD
EDIT: Can anyone thanks me? I can't release my Rom on the Dev section because I don't have 10 posts thanked!

I didn't download a task killer, however I used the built in task viewer to kill the apps and instantly I received lag. Had to reset my whole phone because the lag wouldn't go away.
Frankly I think it's an ICS thing, I get a bit more lag with ICS on the screensaver and such for a brief second or two. It tends to go away pretty quickly though, and scrolling is usually pretty smooth.
xda<3 you seem to be a guy who likes to complain too much...You wanted ICS and now you got it ... Nexus S is a 17 month-old phone, thank god you have it and remember many similar devices or even better didn't...
Here I'm using Steve Garon's kernel, for my phone was the best choice. I'm also switched the original launcher to Apex, there is no lag when tapping the apps drawer and you can set landscape mode in homescreen, I really like it!

Yeah hopefully.. hopefully it's not my phone acting up or anything. The worst lag I receive is when I open the app drawer. It's such a pain. It lags intensely for a couple of seconds and scrolling through the app drawer is a pain for the first few seconds. Hope this will be fixed in updates.
Try Apex launcher, quicker than stock and comes with tons of settings. I'm a perfectionist too and the lags when oppening the drawer and scrooling menus where gone.
