If you do not know what you deleted, do a factory data reset from settings->sd & phone storage, you will be back to a fresh untouched version of your RUU. Do some backups before you do the reset.

[Q] HTC sensation stock music player Can't find any music from SD

Hey Everyone,
I was rooted before and I had ARHD 4.0X and it was working fine.
I superwiped and got ARHD 6.0.X , but the stock music software can't find any music file from my sd card and add them to library.
This also happend to contacts while it was not able to find v-card backups in my SD card.....
I almost tried all the ICS roms out there , same problem.
there was this wifi problem, it turned out to be cuz of my service provider, a little script solved it,
and I am so like this :
can anyone help me ?
Fix permissions thats what fixed it for me
sorry, I am kindda new to this whole android world, permissions ? are we talking about some file access permissions ? would you please light me up a lil ?
I think he means to boot into your recovery and choose the "Fix Permissions" option.
doesn't work i'm afraid
Have you tried the "clear data" option within Settings, Apps?
Worked for me when I had the same issue.

[Q] Nexus S doesn't find new music and old pictures from before flashing.

Hello everyone,
i have a big problem with my Nexus S. A while ago i flashed from ICS to stock JB. After that the music apps didn't find any new Songs i put on the phone. I double checked if they were there with a root explorer and they were all there.
And all the pictures i took before flashing also still exist, but the gallery app doesn't show them.
After flashing to AOKP build2 the problem still persists.
Then i formatted the sdcard. Now it won't see any music files i put on it.
I tried SDRescan but it just says "Scanning: storage/sdcard0" for hours and nothing happening.
Can anybody help me with this problem? What can i try to get the media running again on my Nexus?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings
cokir
Edit: Logcat revealed the following everytime the mediascanner is started: Error opening directory '/storage/sdcard0/.android_secure/', skipping: Permission denied.

Yes i did. why?
May be your memory card is formatted in Linux or root claimed ownership.... so that u don't have permission to access it.

So the mediascanner process runs with userpermissions? How can i fix the permissions of the sdcard? The .android_secure folder belongs to root but as far as i know thats normal.
No ideas? (I hope bumping is ok after a few days)
Hi.
I have the same issue here, except that it happened after I cleared data for media storage to force refresh (some new music files were not getting picked up before).
I've tried some media rescan application, tried flashing a later nightly (am on cm10) after clearing cache + dalvik, still no media nowhere, and same error message on location about media scanner which cannot access to .android_secure.
I'd anyone has any idea please....
I'm in a similar situation ... I flash ROMs with stunning regularity and never had a problem. Until now. My pictures all show in media gallery per normal, but my music will not appear in any music app including the stock Google app. I downloaded two different 'rescan SD card' apps and neither made a difference.
Any tips what next? I'm on Slim ROM 2.6 and all my music is in the default MUSIC folder
Thanks
A little update. I updated to 4.1.2 and the problem still persists. I'm a little desperate now. Is there nothing i can try? How can it be that the mediascanner process doesn't get permission to open the .android_secure folder?
Regards
Cokir
Same problem here. Players are no able to find music in sdcard0 and I can browse them only with root privileges.
When i connect with usb cable, i can see just some folders on pc (windows and linux both).
Can someone tell us the right permission for sdcard0, please? do you think changing them from root explorer can work?
Thank you guys

Was this a paid app you got or an app that offered backup/recovery of files? You might check the app owner's site or information page for more details on that. There are so many vault gallery apps, hard to say which you have.
i already get all hidden files just unnistall all gallery vault and gallery vault key pro and jus copi the .thinkyeah folder to the sdcard then reinstall the app and thas it
any solution? same problem for me ..

I suggest you go into the .think yeah folder, then you'll see some blank files. Click rename, then change the file extensions to .jpg , might take some time if you have a lot of photos in there, but give it a try.
i have not encrypted the hidden files and how to unhide my photos
The files are hidden. So just unhide it.

It depends on whether your device has certain settings and whether you enabled them or set them up before you lost the phone. Try this

Go to system settings>apps, find gallery if it's there then clear cache and data. Then try again.
If that doesn't work, boot to recovery and wipe cache, if you have custom recovery wipe dalvik/ART cache also then reboot and try again.

Where is the pin saved, which file? Surely if you want to 'get in' you can install it clean, set your pin, then move this file overwriting the 'locked' one and it'll use your pin, right?

Follow these steps
If you're an Android user, follow these steps to restore photos and/or videos from Vault to your device:
Open the Vault app.
Tap Photos or Videos.
Tap the Menu button on your phone > then tap Manage Photos or Manage Videos.
Find the Photo(s) or Video(s) that you'd like to restore and tap to select.
Tap Restore.
I forgot to open the Gallery Vault app for a long time .. few days before I open but the files are encrypted but I still have my encrypted files while unable to open them. And also I check out my SD card folder in that the .think yeah folder is also empty. Now how can I see my encrypted photos ??? And how can I unhide it... Please anyone give me a right solution..

Ok i have exactly same problems and it drive me crazy. Any ideas whats going on and how to fix it?
I'm also experiencing the same problem
If I set any default ringtone, the phone (Nexus5) uses it without problems... but if I try to set another MP3 file (I formerly used in KitKat 4.4.4 successfully) it is "set" as ringtone, but a small "error beep" sounds instead of the configured mp3 file.
Reproducing the error is simple, just set a standard ringtone and clic the "ringtone volume" slider to change the volume... you'll hear the ringtone without problems. If you set another ringtone (using Rings Extended or similar) it is correctly set, but changing the volume reproduces the mentioned "beep" instead of the ringtone.
This is not such a big deal... I can set a standard ringtone until this gets fixed... but it is in fact an annoying bug.
Ringtone Problem
I updated my nexus 5 to lollipop. My ringtone changed to some unknow ringtone. Only some beep sound comes when a call comes. I am not able to change the ringtone. It stays the same beep evenwhen i change it. Niether custom nor default ringtone. Default ringtones are all vanished i cant even see the. What to doo! This is really irritating.

Honestly couldn't say - possibly. If you're going to do a reset, obviously backup any important info first of all

I would wipe cache, and factory reset from the recovery menu. This has cleared up a number of issues.

i have the exact same issue...cleared the cache but no dice...if anyone has a fix it would be much appreciated
Faced the same issue and Google brought me here. I would only get the default ring tone or vibrate when a custom mp3 was selected on my stock Nexus 5 on 5.0.1 (OTA). Here's the fix that seems to have worked for me:
Settings > Apps > All Apps > Media Storage > Clear Cache & Defaults
Then I went into Sounds & Notifications and ensured my mp3 ringtone was set as the default. In the process I selected Media Storage as the default provider of file services (over ES). Then I went into the individual contacts and reset each to the proper mp3.
Hope this helps.

I don't have the problem since 5.0.1, I think they fixed it.
I have the problem on both mine and my wife's phone.
My phone:
1. previously flashed 5.0.0 and OTA to 5.0.1
2. just tried flashed 5.0.1 factory images and its the same
Wife's phone:
1. OTA from 4.4 to 5.0.0 then 5.0.1
I tried with both OGG and MP3.
We are using airdroid.
Try copying or moving the sound file to the Ringtones folder/directory and rebooting. If the file is not too large it should show in in the list of available ringtones.

The ringtones does show up, and in the ringtone selector, it does play properly, However, it doesn't play when a voice call comes in. :|
I too face the same problem... Any solutions yet?
Previously I use AirDroid to transfer the ringtones.
I just install ES Explorer, copy it to /sdcard, then when selecting ringtone, choose ES File Explorer again, and pick the file. Works!
This will help.
I also had this same problem
I am having a moto G 2. Same problem occurred to me after updating. All you need to do is to paste the custom ringtone to Phone/Ringtones folder. Then select it from settings. VOILA. It'll work. :fingers-crossed:
Note: Don't copy it in Memory Card

I came here to look for a solution to this problem after upgrading to Lollipop and rings Extended no longer working. The above "quoted" worked for me on my Galaxy S5.
Move the ringtone to Device Storage/Ringtones and then select it in sound settings.
Move the notification sound you want to Device Storage/Notifications and select it in sound settings.
You can then uninstall Rings Extended as it is no longer needed. :good:

Recovery Software for root content - /data/data after factory reset?

Hey guys, I've got a problem. I want to restore my com.whatsapp dir in /data/data/, is that possible somehow? Someone had a similar problem back in 2015 and it is said that he could not restore any, but I have software which backed up all videos and photos, but it didn't recover the files I wanted (because you only could choose things like: doc's, pics, movies etc).
Do you guys have an idea, please?
Or do you guys know how to verify whatsapp? I've been using my old number for 5 years now, 2-3 years ago I got a new sim card. Since then, I've always made a backup with titanium or took the backup from whatsapp itself and if you enter ur number and whatsapp recognized a backup, it didn't have to verify anymore. But it's been changed now somehow, they want to verify one's number and then it'll first try backing up (but I do not have that sim anymore). And unfortunately, titanium backup made a corrupt file exactly with the whatsapp file <_<
Thanks in Advance!
WhatsApp doesn't store your media (received images, videos, chat messages, etc.) in the com.whatsapp folder in /data/data, but it stores it in your internal sdcard itself in a folder named WhatsApp. Take that folder with you and put it in the new phone/tablet where you want to continue your WhatsApp usage.
Verification is straight-forward. All you have to do is do a fresh install of WhatsApp on this new phone/tab of yours and start it. If you had placed this backed-up WhatsApp folder on the internal sdcard of the new device, WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device.
Hope that helps.
Hello, thank you for your help.
As I said, I don't want the media, I want the data of whatsapp. I backed up all the media anyway and the recover programs only recovered the media, but I want to recover the whatsapp data.
"WhatsApp will ask you and automatically import this media on your new device."
That is how it used to be, I think they changed their system. You now first have to verify your number and afterwards, you're importing ur whatsapp backup folder. after verifying to another number (not the one I wanted) my old data has been backuped.

In that case, I don't think its going to be easy to retrieve the old chat contents easily unless you have WhatsApp running on your older device. If you have it running on the older device by any chance, you can refer to this manual and create a Chat Backup to your Google Drive, so that later you can restore it from Google Drive on your new phone/tablet. I suppose this is the only way to create WhatsApp chat backups going forward.
Well, I flashed another rom, so I don't got any possibility to return to that version. That's why I ask for an recovery software which also can recover root files. I didn't think it would be so hard to find, because there are some which recovery plenty of other files, I just needed one which includes /data/data folder AND any files, no matter which ending they have (like *.*, where * is a wildcard for any matches), so I hoped someone of you would know any software?

What software did you originally use to take the backup? If it was Titanuium Backup, then what went wrong while restoration?
In case you have the actual file system backup of /data/data/com.whatsapp, you can directly try pasting that folder in the new setup using Root Explorer (or similar app) and see whether it works. But of course, you'll need to be rooted on your new setup.

[ROOT NEEDED]
Maybe GT recovery is the app you are looking for. Basically this app recovers your lost data even after a hard reset by exploiting some resources in the root directory. By this app you can recover the whole folder of your WhatsApp. Just type in the full directory path in the app.
May this help you.
Unfortunately, the exactly the whatsapp backup is a corrupted .rar file, only has 0.0 kb data... @tiger1487 I got root on my phone, but the problem with GT recovery is, that you need the paid version for using it. But tbh, I'm not willing to pay 15e to try if it eventually could recover my needed data, so I'd ask you, if you know another software which is similar to this one? I can't search for one unfortunately, because if you google for it, you just get some to backup a factory image via cwm or twrp or something :x

I am a new member so i cant send you the link of the all free GT recovery but i can tell you that just type 'GT recovery cracked' in the google search engine. You will get it for free[Tip: If you type 'cracked' in front of any app name on google search, you will get it for free, just look for some trusted website like 'onhax' or 'okhax' or 'crackedapkfull']

And I forgot to tell that GT recovery is now more updated. Now there is no need to type in the exact path. There is a direct option for Recover WhatsApp. Likewise there are other options too for messenger, call logs, etc if you need it?

Oh, you were talking of the app, thought of the windows software. The app itself is free, isn't it? I tried the app, it stucks at 0% scanning and I don't think it'll work. Tried different apps, it seems they're only looking for sdcard/whatsapp/database instead of data/data/com.whatsapp so it would be awesome if I could set a path
Thank you very much for your help.

Yes its free...windows version is paid but my app doesn't stuck. Mine one is working perfectly. See that you try some other older versions of the app too. Maybe you downloaded the version that stucks at 0% or something like that.

Sorry for answering late :x
Okay, it seems that my root was broken somehow, but now as it works, the program tells me I am not rooted (now I am for sure!) and wants me to download Kingo root or something. But anyway, I had GBWhatsapp installed on my phone, so I think the app won't help me because it would search for com.whatsapp instead of com.gbwhatsapp (could that be possible?)
I found the app Undeleter, this has some more path search options but unfortunately not one where I can specify my desired path. So, I hope you got one last idea?
