First things first. I want to take the current ROM I'm running, which incidentally is damagecontrol 2.07, and build a custom theme that is much darker than the stock HTC Sense, with some transparent elements, and changing every single bit of that day-glo green color into a nice cool blue, while keeping LWP fuctioning. I figured I would be using Metamorph for this, unless there's some sort of incompatibility issue that I have no clue about. Fairly simple, so I thought.
I'm new to android, but I have done themes and skins for things like winamp in the past. Lets be clear up front, I am in no way a slick coder, I haven't the slightest idea how to code Java, or Android, or the Linux it is based on. I'm a graphic designer through and through, and that's about as far as my knowledge goes.
Currently, I need help with setting up Eclipse to compile .9.png images for my theme. I've tried to research and get info on the .9.png images, and I understand how they work, I just haven't been able to find anything to tell me which version of Eclipse to download, (there's several on the site) and how to set it up with Android 2.1, (and a fairly new leak from Sprint) which is what the ROM is based on.
I can't help but think that what I'm asking help for has been asked before, but I don't know if I'm just searching or looking for the wrong thing, and I'm having a tough time finding answers to a very quickly growing list of very specific questions. If there's any thread's you guys know of to help me out, or specific resources to check out, let me know, so I can stop cluttering the forums.
In 5 days I'll have my newest thearmo theme up. Every bit of green is being replaced by cool blue. If you want, you can use my blue framework files to build your theme around. I've spent hours making everything that was green into blue. It's insanely tedious, especially the 9.pngs. I'm working on those right now. The offer stands...if you want to save yourself some time, you can build your theme with the files from my framework, etc....
hope that helps.

I hate to be a wanna-be mod, but this is posted in the wrong section. This is only for ROM development, not theming.
good luck with the theme tho, sounds awesome.

I agree with you whole heartedly (but you also know how rewarding it is when you see the finished product )

I have recently started looking into theming and I was wondering if there was a repo somewhere with icons etc. that generally match. atm the moment I'm kinda of pulling from these theme and the other, there a better way to do this? Eventually I'll probably start making some of my own by in the meantime while I'm still dabbling I was hoping I could find these. Right now I've got about 5k images from the various frameworks of themes that I enjoy...Tell me there's an easier way.

There are a few people who have posted guides such as the following:
https://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AcdxIJRSH9ypZGZzc2pxNDlfMjdnazk4OHNxZA&hl=en&pli=1
This is a pretty comprehensive guide from people like Manup and Stericson.
Or check here:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...ns-manuals/3209-how-theme-your-own-droid.html
I think most of it is the same, but may fill in some extra gaps, and is a forum, so you may find some additional questions answered.
I just started theming as well. I originally was just replacing images as well. But the guys doing the big work actuall create their own images (sometimes image creation, as well as coloring). In addition they usually theme the apps (not just the images) but also go in and edit the xml files to create color coded themes throughout the framework and apps. It's quite a bit of work...
Anyways...check out the links and good luck!

I'm pretty new to the whole rooting scene. I currently have ClearDroid ROM. I definitely like it. Fast and all.
But. I've also used a few 2.3.3 Gingerbread + Sense ROM's and I also like the whole quick settings in the notification area and all the neat other stuff that 2.2 didn't offer.
My big $1,000,000 question is... Is it possible to keep ClearD's ROM but still import the 2.3.3 functions in such as the quick settings and lock screen and stuff like that. Or if there is something like that already available. Please let me know.
Thanks,
Cyanide
If that rom is sense based your best bet is to wait or contact the developer to see if he can make the 2.3.3 GB jump.
If it is not sense based or it is AOSP then those features cannot be added since they rely on the sense framework
Not quite sure if I was clear on my OP.
I was wanting to keep some 2.2 features, but add a few 2.3 features like the 2.3 lockscreen, quick settings and a few other things.
But I'll keep looking around.
I'm not familiar with doing changes in the system like that so i cannot tell if it requires the whole system or just some files replacements that will not create any conflicts.
If your looking for the lockscreen search in this forums there are few alternatives and maybe easy to do for example this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054510
need help have found multiple battery icons that i think would be an awesome addition to the awesome criskelo and king droid roms that i use as i am only familiar with the basics like rooting and flashing roms if any themer is willing to help i am uploading all the images i have found so far and will upload any additional ones that i find
more battery icons
uploading more battery icons if someone is willing to help make theme for me or at the very least explain how to mod current criskelo or king droid themes to include them
I like the fact that you thing this is easy, theming is really very complicated and hard to get done, its not just about replacing icons, yo need thousands of hours working on photosop, learn how to deconplie and compile apk's properly, working with hundreds of tiny little images till the puzzle is all done, and certainly not something that can be taught in afew post, so go google and learn by yourself, there is enought info out there

i never said nor did i imply that theming was easy i was just asking if someone could include these battery icons in a theme that is being made or has already been made for the roms that i use as it is out of my league at the present time if it was as simple as replacing icons i would have used an app for that i recognise the hard work that developers on here do and while i do apreciate it i dont think its wrong to ask for help or suggest someone use the icons that i have posted in their next theme
There are a few guides on here but they are all out of date, referencing tools that are outdated and don't work, or just plain broken links. I'm also looking for a template theme that's based on the stock CM10.1 theme. I tried using SystemUI from a rom build but that didn't work too well...
Bump. Sorry. Plenty of people here making themes. Someone must know.
There are many tutorials in the android theme section here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=527
A long time ago, I wanted to learn how to make theme chooser themes, but along the way I learned from various places how to decompile existing themes and take looks on the inside on how they are made. Then I made my own tutorial here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1730445 . No self promotion intended, I took what I learned, and made more use of VTS instead of using command line tools directly for general understanding, and it pointed me in the right direction.
Hope that helps
