Does anyone know if it is possible to tether a Transformer to a PC (via USB cable) in order to get internet to the Transformer? Wireless is not an option in this case - would need to connect the Tansformer to the PC via USB cable...
Basically, I have a PC with internet access and no wifi - I'm trying to find a way to get internet access on my tablet by using the PC's internet connection.
Everything I see on the web seems to do it the other way - tether the PC to an android device in order to get internet access on the PC...
Thanks!
Anyone? Trying to share my PC's internet connection with my Transformer (via USB cable). Can it be done?
Thanks!

I am looking to do the same thing. Anyone know what to do?
i have not tried it but this might work

Ha! Actually, works pretty damn good! Thanks for the info!!
I can now get my Transformer "internet-connected" via Wifi (access point, InternetConnectionSharing or phone tether), ethernet cable (via usb->ethernet dongle and some drivers) or USB cable (this app)!
What more can you ask for?? This Transformer gets better and better every day!
Just as an addendum to this thread for users without root access and completely without downloading/modifying anything I would like to refer to a thread on groups . google . com (sorry, I am not yet allowed to post links)

This question has probably been asked a million times but i couldn't find an answer.
On my HTC Hero (android 2.1), there was an option to tether once you plugged the phone into your computer. This could also be used as a wireless receiver for a desktop computer lacking a wireless access card. I was using this as a last resort after losing dozens of Ethernet cables to vermin under the house. Basically the idea was: connect to your homes wireless router on the phone, then plug the phone into the usb slot of your computer and it would share that wifi connection with your computer. Recently I have switched over to the all powerful HTC HD2 and I am realizing there is no way to do this, that I can tell, with the stock phone. Is there something I'm missing?
I have tried using the Internet Sharing option, as well as the CMInternetSharing.cab I downloaded from you guys, and neither seem to bring this ability to the table. Is there an app out there that can solve this problem?
Ussually a Custom rom will fix this most have the Internet share or WiFi router but you need to HARDSPL your phone. also theres a way for you to do it just deleting your or editing your REGISTRY.
---------------------
Here is the Thread for the roms for your phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
and this is the rom I Recomend
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
use the Cookie GTX (white theme)
Follow the intructions on how to install it(rom) also onces done click on your Window button>tools>WiFi Router and you can use your phone as a wireless router also if you connected your phone Via usb to your conputer you can connect using internet sharing.
fixed the problem
WMWifiRouter has a wifi to usb mode.
will definitely be buying it after my trial runs out.
I want to know if there is a way to use an android device as a wireless adapter? Not wireless tethering of your data connection but the ability to use the wifi connection on your pc.

Turn your data off and turn on your WiFi, connect to the desired network and try to tether via usb to your phone. This should hopefully bridge your connection if you have an aosp ROM. I'm not sure about sense, as I've never tried it on a sense ROM before.

So you mean download the wirless tether app and use it while data is off? And you can do it via usb?/ I've never used data tethering so idk im a noob

He meant to say, connect to wifi and in settings there will be an option to tether via usb
Although i am also not sure about sense roms
Or you can use a market app
There are many, Easy Tether will do the job
Connect to the wifi network and then use usb tethering
okay well I have a droid 3 so there aren't any roms out for it and when I try a wifi tether app from the market it disables your wifi

Okay, so basically what you're going to be doing is using your phone as a USB WiFi dongle. To do this, follow these instructions VERY carefully.
1) Assuming that you are already rooted (via z4root, Gingerbreak, or some other means), search for "EasyTether Lite" on the Android Market and download it.
2) Go into Settings>Wireless & Networks
3) Uncheck the box that says "Mobile Network", "3G", "Mobile Data" or something along those lines.
4) Check the box that says "WiFi" and connect to the desired network.
5) Now, download and install the drivers you need for EasyTether to work with your computer here (note that you are going to do this from your computer and not your phone): http://www.mobile-stream.com/easytether/drivers.html
6) Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable and open the EasyTether app. Enable tethering and with a little bit of magic and fairy dust, you should now have a connection on your computer.
Good luck mate.
Need for same
Need an expert here!
what we look for is using android phone to connect other devices not only to internet but also to each other .
We could do it with our modem, but with tethering is like a hotspot , every device can connect internet but cannot see other devices.
Everywhere i looked was explainin "how to tether" which is built in android 2.2 already.
Helps will be highly appreciated
Is it too simple?
I had trouble getting USB tethering on my macbook, not my PC, but:
I searched the market for USB tethering.
and with "Easy Tether lite" (the first app in the search results; there are other options, I tried this one first and it worked great).
I installed on my phone, ran it, followed the wizard, had to install USB tethering drivers for OS X at some point.
Now:
Phone getting WiFi from my router and entering my computer via usb.
I even set it up now to send this very post!!
cheers,

EDIT: (Hmm, your syntax is kind of shaky, original poster... You don't mean use the computer as a wireless adapter for your phone do you?? that would be internet pass-through, yes? I think you do mean USB tethering but using a WiFi source, not the mobile connection. Is this as simple as hooking up a usb data tether but using the WiFi instead of 3G from your phone, such as to use a dingy laptop without wireless to get the WiFi in a Starbucks/etc/etc? Hmm.
Otherwise, your phone is not a WiFi wireless adapter, it has one that your phone OS connects to, which then "usb tethers" to computer...
I've never even seen a usb cable that connects a mobile phone to a mobile phone. Haha. I suppose if you had one, you should be able to USB tether from one phone and Internet Pass-Through on the other.....:/ )
Check out this thing called Bluetooth for that. It works wonders.

solution without additional software while having cyanogenmod
This works with cyanogenmod10 out of the box. Probably also possible with cm7/cm9 too.
Connect phone via cable to pc, connect phone to wifi, enable "USB-Tethering" (Settings -> Tethering/Hotspot), let OS detect the new device, done.
I know this thread has no activity since over a year, but if anybody finds this page like me while searching for this topic, I could be helpful for him knowing a method without using additional software while having cyanogenmod.

yet another reason to consider CM flash
Just some questions...
OK GUYS. thnx for the usefull info.
Now i wanna say that suppose we have this wifi dongle for connecting to computer..(see photo attached) we use this for connecting WIFI to our PC's. RIGHT???
NOW i wanna ask if it is possible that we can use our phone instead of this ""DONGLE"" as wifi signal catcher. NEITHER USB NOR WIFI TETHERING(like easy tether lite or many other options available on XDA.) [people are actually asking for "THIS OPTION" so we don't have to spend another 20-30 bucks but they ends up with USB or WIFI tether)
we connect our phone to PC and Search for WIFI Signals on PC... NOT on the phone itself.
please guys, if any one know how to do this then please share. OR please tell if it is possible or not..
thnx...

sorry for bringin up a old thread
but man ure a life saver my dongle died on one of my pcs and i used the same method for my LG G4 works like a charm
thank you a million times man
I actually just tried the above program and it works. It has serious limitations if your not getting the paid version. Blocks a bunch of webs sites and all secure ones. It does work though. I really wish Verizon would not have found it necessary to remove wifi sharing over USB for some dam reason. The S7 I have, had it factory and they removed it. Not sure why? Seeing how it does not have a fuking thing to do with the mobile network. I can actual tether my computer by USB using mobile network and can't from my wifi. Can already bypass they're tethering fee.
I will continue reading and searching till I find a way to undo or work around big reds unnecessary removal of this feature. Even if it involves crawling a 1000 miles on my hands and knees, on broken glass to find some big wig and beating the reversal out of him with the very S7 I'm typing this on.
I was wondering if it is possible to WiFi tether with the GN10.1?
I tried connecting the tablet to my PC via USB, but the tether option did not show up in the settings like it does with my HTC Amaze.
It is for me...
I have wifi tethered my table to my phone and my PC. You need the right software or know how to use netsh to make your PC a wifi hotspot.
Are you trying to use the WiFi on your tablet to give your PC Internet access? Presumably meaning your PC does not have a WiFi adapter of its own.
You probably need to look for an app for that. And/or a driver for your PC so that it can recognize the tablet, when connected by USB, as a USB network adapter.

Thank you, that was exactly what i meant since my wifi adapter for my pc is on the fritz. will try searching for apps/drivers when i get home, Thanx
I recently purchased the Lenovo S6000L tablet for the purpose of traveling. I wanted a large screen (10.1) tablet that could do the basic functions of a laptop, without having to lug around my 17.3 inch HP laptop to and from work/etc. My issue is, I work for a company that will not allow us to access their WiFi (security reasons), but we can use any LAN. I purchased an OTG cable and a USB to Ethernet converter. To my surprise, my Lenovo tablet wouldn't recognize the converter, thus, not allowing me to access the internet via the OTG cable. After that failure, I decided to root my tablet, which I did. Even with the root I can't seem to tweak the tablet to allow the internet connection bridge to work. Being P/O, I decided to go a step further by flashing a custom ROM to the tablet in hope that a different ROM would read and react to the OTG setup, but I'm unable to find a ROM that would work. Well their you have it, this is my big issue. Even though those are the steps I've taken or are willing to take, doesn't mean It's the only thing I'm looking to do, I'm open to anything that will work. So I desperately ask, does anyone have or know of a solution for me to use a RJ45 ethernet cable on this S6000L Lenovo tablet?
P.S. I've hooked up the USB to Ethernet to my PC and it worked, so it's not faulty. I've hooked up a flash drive to my tablet via the OTG cable and that worked also, so the OTG cable works as well.

you cannot use like that because to use internet from other device to android you must use reverse tethering method and it can be done only from connecting it to a laptop or pc
so yyou cant use internet directly from lan cable to your tab
I don't want to use it from another device.

I'm not using it from another device, I'm only using it and want to use it from a router and/or directly from a modem. I only hooked the adapter to my laptop once just to verify the adapter was working.

Corrections for the above reply: I misread your reply. In theory, reverse tethering is the same method. A source that contains internet(PC) that you bridge to your tablet and gives it internet. The Nexus 7 is one tablet that allows you to bridge a RJ45 to the tablet for LAN access, and their are others. My best guess is it's an software issue that Lenovo has blocked, but I'm looking for a way around it. I don't know if they added anything specific to the stock that is killing that use or is it just that the adapter I purchased isn't compatible with what I believe is Linux based software. As I said, I will travel any path to victory, even if I have to flash software that's used on the Nexus 7, if possible.
Sorry for the delay, I'm at work and people keep coming to me.
Houston, I believe I have a solution to my problem!!
I have no clue why I didn't think about it earlier but all it may take to remedy my issue can be spelled with one word, Portable Wireless Router. Ok, that's 3 words, but who cares! I don't. Whenever I'm in a situation where LAN is available but WLAN isn't, I figure all I would have to do is to plug the LAN into my soon to be purchased TP-LINK TL-WR702N 150Mbps Wireless N Nano Router. And BOOM! my own private WiFi hotspot.
Hi guys. I'm getting stuck with this problem. I don't have a good house network (my isp is terrible) so I started using my Smartphone (huawei nova 5t) to play with my xbox on online games. Until now i've been using the Hotspot (wifi),but it's instable and it pings a lot. So I was wondering how could I use a cable to use my LTE connection on my xbox via ETHERNET using the USB Thetering . I bought from amazon an adapter that's Type C-Ethernet. It's a really good one,but when I plug it to my phone,my Huawei doesn't let me use the USB thetering,I can't activate it. So I was asking if there is a way,an external app or something that could make me do that. My idea is LTE---> Otg Type C Ethernet---> Xbox one. I found nothing on the internet about this, all the threads are about using that OTG to connect my phone to a router and using the router internet, and it works perfectly that way,but I wanna use the cable in the opposite way. I wanna share my smartphone connection with my xbox. Can I do that with that otg or it's just impossible..? Thanks forward.
Hi there. I need the same thing! Sorry to bump late but at least there's only 2 of us.
I think it's called
REVERSED TETHERING via an ETHERNET dongle. (or HOST mode?)
It should be technically possible because ethernet dongles are supported by a lot of ROMs but this function is usually going in the other direction.
Tetrd is another useful search term.
Did you get further with this since you last posted this?
This could be related:
https://android.stackexchange.com/q...-hotspot-and-usb-tethering-so-that-they-are-i
If you can put a windows device between the set up, you can use the program Connectify to make your windows machine a router and choose the ethernet out and plug it into the xbox. And then usb tether the phone into the computer. Connecitfy works with speedify too so if you have multiple hotspots you can bond them together and get a more reliable connection.
Or, I suppose, a Raspberry Pi
