[Q] [QUESTION] how do i create WIFI?? - HTC Sensation

ok, lets begin.
1. i live in usa
2.tmobile usa 4g
3.i am not talking about using the 4g network on a laptop via wifi hot spot
4. i am not talking about using the PC internet on the phone through internet passthrough
5.i am not talking about using the 4g network on a pc/laptop via usb tethering
i am asking if i can create wifi through my phone.
my phone can use my pc's internet via internet passthrough. can it then take that internet and make it into wifi so my laptop can use it?
I DONT WANT TO USE THE 4G NETWORK ON MY LAPTOP.
my phone is not rooted and will not be rooted(bricked an hd2 awhile back and still not over it)
i hope i made myself clear.

Lol, that must be the most confusing question ever. And no is the answer.

just get a cheap wireless router and connect anything you want

No. Your phone's ONLY CONNECTION THAT IT CAN CREATE ( and other devices can utilize) IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE based off of T-Mobile's HSPA+ network.

yea, that seems to be the consensus . still a major shame. sucks. it can use the pc internet but it cant share it
lame but i guess impossible is impossible

Oh my, are you saying that you have internet on a pc and want to connect pc to your sensation, so to use a phone as a router to create WiFi, so that you can joint that WiFi with a laptop.
I can imagine that to be useful feature if you need to get internet on a laptop where you have some internet connected public pc.

If above interpretation of your question is correct. Than you need to split the task into two parts.
1) get internet pass through working.
This means, get pc internet working on your phone. Make sure to install htc sync on the pc, otherwise it will not work. Reason, you need drivers for the phone. So for public pc it is not always possible to install htc sync. If you intend to this configuration for home than just get router and forget this.
2) create WiFi hot spot from your phone.
Way too easy to explain.
Summary,
It can work but:
For public pc - it's a problem to get drivers installed on the computer.
For home pc - it is easier and more convenient to get router.
Recommendation
Forget about this idea.

I think you mean pass-thru, so you can use your phones wifi as an wifi adapter for your laptop?

best way i can explain it.
i want to enable wifi on a netbook. i have my htc sensation and my pc with internet. i want to put the pc internet on the phone and then spread it as wifi to my netbook.
yes yes i know a router is more practical, but not at the moment

Wif tethering is where you give other devices Wifi from your phone. Most ROM have it built in but some you need to edit something.

[Q] [REQ] Internet Passthrough

The G2 and the Sensation have an internet passthrough option that allows you to use your PCs internet connection on your phone.
Is there a way to get that feature to work on the G2X? I would prefer it be native, like the Sensation, or is there an app that can do that?

Wifi??
Suprah..."no cyanogen, rom manager still fake flashes the roms thats y for nvidia phones we have to use nvflash"
Like... reverse tethering? Have a 4G data stick for your laptop and no data plan on your phone? Or just not have WiFi? Only situations I can think of. Very odd and probably rare situation, so I hope someone can help you out.
Yeah. It allows you to use your PC's internet connection on your phone - reverse tethering

The only thing I can think of is ... nope, I can't.
Was gonna say proxy, but you can do that without creating extra overhead. Perhaps some sort of spoofing.
You can create an internet s
If you go to internet sharing in windows xp, vista or 7 you can create a pico-net whereby your computer's internal network card broadcast a network, it must be a ad-hoc network. The range will be about 50 ft and your phone can pick up on the wifi. I used to do this when I had cricket and needed to hook up devices that didnt have a USB drive.
Cheers!
Could somebody enlighten me as to why you wouldn't just use wifi? especially as you can get a wireless router cheap
To prevent the issue of throttling, I could use the internet on my work PC on my phone. No access to Wi-Fi it works wonderfully on the sensation. Any hopes of this being ported?

I can see this being useful in places where only a direct Ethernet connection to a PC is available... travel, motels/hotels w/o wiring, etc... Every method to limit mobile data usage nowadays is much appreciated by me at least.

Wi-Fi question.

At work we are not allowed to go on certain websites with our work computer.
If I were to use my G2x and go on Facebook instead of using my computer is there a way to keep a record of that? And would it e traceaable? If anyone know's it would be appreciated.
Yes they can track what websites you been if you connect to their router.

If you're doing everything over your cell network I wouldn't worry about it. If you're connected to wifi at your work and the sites aren't blocked, then don't worry about it either.
Now, if it violates your workplace policy to be using your phone in the first place well that's another story.

Only if they knew your phones MAC addy, or they if they could deduce who's phone was connected just by looking at who carries what. It would kind of depend on the size of the network and who was paying attention.
My G2x shows up on my router with android_70062d507xxxxxxx for a host name, If I were the only client on the router with an Android device I'd definitely be found out. I would think that with any reasonably sized employer there would be many Android phones.
Of course if you're doing anything seriously wrong none of this applies, an investigation would go to a whole 'nuther level.
EDIT: If an IT person helped set you up or if you had to request access from your phone then you are probably being watched, but if you just connected yourself to the router from a shared password then you are probably somewhat safe.

[Q] A general question about tethering.

This has nothing to do with a certain ROM or anything like that, just a general question. Now, I was wondering if my GS3 is connected to WI-FI, and NOT using any mobile carrier data, can it share that connection through USB tethering to a PC or laptop? I've looked everywhere and all people seem to do is share their DATA connection with their devices, and nothing for Wi-Fi. Thanks in advance! -YK
That doesn't make any sense. Wouldn't you just connect your laptop to that same WiFi hotspot?

My bad, I forget to clarify that my PC can't connect to Wi-Fi because it's lacking a wireless card. And just my luck, there are no ethernet ports anywhere.
Then it might be time for a hardware upgrade lol. As for sharing your WiFi connection, I can see it being possible for USB tether, but I have never heard of such a thing. My guess is that there isn't much demand for said feature.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I've known several people who demanded for WiFi tethering, too. All, business related.
To my knowledge, I do not know of a way of succeeding, due to that I've done research myself.
If anything close enough to it, would probably be USB tethering or Bluetooth tethering. But, I haven't tried those personally. Running on CM10.1, which those options are available,
I wanna saw I saw a feature like you're looking for in PDAnet. If you have a few dollars to spare I'd def throw in a PCI Wireless Ethernet Card
Oh whale.
Ah, even after all this time, there is still lack of such a feature. Oh well, just have to wait till I can scrape up a wireless card somewhere.

54G usb cards run like 10-15, hell you could probably find someone willing to practically give them away on CL

Wifi experts, I need your help

I just installed a new Android-based head unit into my BMW, and it's supposed to rely on your phone for internet access. Since I have a mobile share plan with AT&T and have been able to tether all sorts of things to my One X (including my N7), I didn't figure to have any problems.
Well, I have. The head unit sees the phone just fine, and will connect most of the time, but it either stalls on "Acquiring IP address" or appears to connect but gets no internet access.
I've played around with the settings to no avail. I tried setting a static IP address on the head unit, and though that got me past the acquiring address issue, it still can't get an internet connection.
This unit has a reputation for being finicky about tethering, but every other discussion of this issue I've seen is about problems seeing the phone or connecting at all. So I'm thinking this is related to the connection setting, not a hardware conflict.
Any ideas?
If you have wireless at your home see if the radio will connect to your home router if it has enough range. That will eliminate a problem with the radio. Other than that I don't know it should connect?

Ya HTC phones have these issues for some reason, you prob already installed WiFi fix from op in viper thread? Also broadcast ssid first time then you can shut off broadcast . Android in general hates hidden ssid. Check what band and make sure its same . (Wireless n &g). There may be some issue with accepting connection. When I set up hotspot on phone it would ask permission on phone and on device trying to connect. Also if you have es file manager you can set up server on phone through that program . I would say it will all sudden connect and you will be good. Also try messing with static and dynamic settings . But def make sure you have WiFi partitions installed found on op in viperxl thread

Nothing worked. I finally gave up and went and got a portable hotspot at the AT&T store. Of course it connected immediately with no issues. Fortunately I'm on a mobile share plan so it's all the same data.
