[Q] Have I ruined my phone? - HTC Sensation

Hi Guys,
I have a HTC Sensation which I rooted a few weeks ago. Since then, I have gotten a new Samsung Galaxy S2 which I prefer so I planned on selling my Sensation. I was in the process of unrooting the device, following steps I found online.
However, when I tried to install the RUU, it got half way through the process and told me that the RUU was wrong for my handset. Unfortunately at this point the software had already wiped the phone completely so now when I start it up it just sticks on the HTC splashscreen.
The RUU I used was RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed
When I checked my version in About Phone, I had 10.56.9035 .00P but I though they were so close that this must be the correct one.
Can anyone help me?

Try doing it again. Not sure it will work, but to be safe wait someone to confirm this or give another answer.

Might be the incorrect RUU since I assume you didn't change your CID, try to get the exact version that came preloaded in your phone. Should work
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App

Is your sensation branded, european, asian etc. if you but yours from t-mobile you have to get the t-mo one

try pull out your battery and put it back in. and try to boot into recovery (power and Vol down) that worked for me. good luck

It's European, it was originally Vodafone Ireland but not anymore.

I think this is the problem. Maybe you have to flash some Vodafone one.

do you know where i might find one?

Ok, I just managed to check my CID, its VODAP001. Anyone know which RUU I need?

you should of sold it rooted the point is to get rid of the phone

OK, I've managed to fix my issue. What I did was change my CID to 11111111 with SuperCID. then I just installed a stock ROM. Running better than ever too!

Debranding the Sensation

Correct me if I'm wrong but if I was to get a Vodafone UK Sensation could I debrand it via the gold card method using the Europe RUU or is the locked bootloader gonna pose an issue?
+1 for an answer. I saw that little box thingy for generating gold cards and wondered if that would work.
I've been waiting for some info to come up on debranding too. But I didnt know if it would be possible until the unbranded handsets come out.

no you wont, since you'll be changing the bootloader. so no chance of jumping ship from voda branding
Thought as much, waiting for the unbranded handsets to be released then I'll get one of them - assuming it's actually any good
Or get your phone from Vodafone unbranded like me!

You won't be changing the bootloader by unbranding it.
If you get a goldcard to work, you just flash over the shipped HTC stock ROM.
However, I have been having problems with the goldcard method. I can create the card, but the CID check still fails when running the ROM off the card.
have u tried running the RUU

No, but I guess it will fail anyway, since the CID check failed for the ROM on the SD card via bootloader, I imagine it will fail via the RUU also.
Does the phone need to be connected via HTC Sync to run an RUU? Or just connected via Charge only?
You can run it in FASTBOOT, going by other HTC handsets

Hmm. Might be worth a try. But I am sure the CID check will fail.
Update: I tried the RUU using the fastboot method, and again, it failed on the CID. Everything was going well until then.
We need someone else to try with a goldcard on their device. Mine doesn't work at all
Has there been any progress with this? I'd really like to debrand if poss.

Which SD card are you using?
I tried to de-brand a friend's Hero once using the Goldcard method. Using his 4GB Kingstone didn't work, then I tried my 2GB SanDisk and it went right through.
Hi.
just some questions to get things straight.
My English isn't "DA bomb"
If i could use the GoldCard method i could install every ROM i like right?
But if there's an other ROM i would like to install can you flash it just like that? Or do i need the GoldCard method again?
Sorry for the misunderstanding but my English isn't perfect
Thanks in advance

Using Goldcard, you can ONLY install signed ROMs, i.e. official ROMs.
But we don't think it works correctly sadly.

I could give it a try... It would be nice to have an official ROM without the Vodafone branding. Thx for clearing it up for me !!
I'm new to HTC, if I wanted to try debranding, where do you get the roms from?
Does the Goldcard-method or other methods work on the sensation ?
Because i bought the sensation yesterday with vodafone branding and i hate it
When the sensation is debranded i can install only official roms in the moment, right ?
I tried again, to flash the HTC 1.27 ROM, and I get a signature error. I get a CID error with the HTC 1.24 ROM. That's using a 2GB Kingston SD card for my goldcard. I'm starting to think it doesn't work
Where did you get the roms from?
I dont even know where to start looking, is there a site like samfirmwares for htc?
EDIT:
nmv just found the thread in the dev section on here.

[Q] HTC Desire S - Vodaphone UK Android 2.3.5 & Sense 3.0 update?

Hi there, I currently own an HTC Desire S, the information for it is below:
Android version:
2.3.3
HTC Sense version:
2.1
Software number:
1.28.401.1
Operator name:
vodaphone UK
I haven't yet recieved the Android 2.3.5/Sense 3.0 update. I have tryed searching for updates and checking in using that checkin dial code. I'm just wondering if there's anyway to install this official update onto my phone with minimal risk? I've looked around the forums but can't find exactly what i'm looking for (or I just can't find it!).
Thanks!
I think that you have got the same software version 1.28.401.1 that I had until recently.
I would like to have used to OTA update route but basically got tired of waiting.
I believe that the OTA update was targetted (certainly at first) specifically at those people who already received the previous (troublesome) update to 1.47.
I believe this explains why we didn't get the update.
I loaded the RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.5_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_219480_signed from the development section here and it works a treat. No problems.
The only thing that puzzles me is that my phone is very definitely unbranded and not operator locked, whereas you mention Vodaphone. (If your phone was locked to Vodaphone I would have expected a different software version).
Anyway, if your phone is unlocked like mine, I would certainly recommend using the RUU.

Thanks very much for your reply.
Yeah, unfortunately my phone is in fact locked to Vodaphone, and I couldn't find the equivalent update that you listed for unlocked phones.
i have a vodafone as well on the same firmware and never got it.
from what i hear the update was pulled due to instability so if you didnt receive it already i very much doubt you will untill a new version is released.
i gave up waiting and went to endymion 3.5

Are you sure it's locked?!
I thought that software version was for the generic european unlocked version.
Someone else help me here - can the same software number apply to both operator locked and unlocked phones?

i can confirm the htc euro ruu DOES NOT WORK ON VODAFONE BRANDED DEVICES. it bricked my phone and took a whole lot of work to downgrade back to the old hboot to get it working again. the only way to install this version on a voda desire s is via goldcard.it will just give you a cid error and brick your device

Completely agree, great care needed !
But my point was, the software version1.28.401.1 reported by Biogeneric appears to be the same as I had until recently on my unbranded phone.
I thought that if his phone was locked to Vodaphone, wouldn't it have a different software number? Or can the operator lock the phone to their network without changing this software version away form the "generic" one?
- Steve
I'm with Vodaphone, and it says my network is "vodaphone UK" so i'm assuming it's locked! How am I supposed to find out without putting a different networks Sim in?

Mine (which recently had the same software version and in NOT operator locked) simply says the name of whatever SIM card you insert.
I suspect your phone may be unlocked, but I'd like feedback from a more experienced developer before suggesting that you load the RUU! We don't want any nasty accidents
By the way, I've just loaded RUU for 2.10.401.8 and it's looking good so far...
Okay, I tried putting in an Orange sim card and setting the network to Orange and it appears to all work (well, I had signal on it, and the network was stated as "Orange"). So i'm assuming my phone is in fact unlocked then?
If so, great news! Am I all clear to update to that unlocked version then? Anyone got a link to the newest one? (Not any mods etc. just the standard update!).
Thanks all!

I believe that the most recent RUU is RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8_Radio_20.4801.30. 0822U_3822.10.08.04_M_release_225161_signed.exe
in the "Shipped Desire S ROM Collection" :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
I loaded this last night and not experienced any problems so far.
Be warned that this will wipe all existing data on your phone, so make sure that you have got everything saved. In some respects, this is a good thing because you are sure of getting a completely fresh install.
I can't see any reason why this shouldn't work for you, but I wouldn't feel bad if you got a second opinion

Okay thanks very much! I'll try updating it via that ROM tonight - hopefully I won't brick it!
Does anyone know if updating the phone using this method voids the warranty?
Also, how do I actually install that update to my phone? Seen a few tutorials scattared around but some are for different things and I don't want to mess it up! (Easiest/quickest method please, if there is one ha!)
Thanks a lot for your help Steve!

I expect that doing almost anything other than the "official" OTA update theoretically voids warranty. But perhaps more important, if it all went horribly wrong, could anyone detect that you were fiddling with it
If you returned a phone rooted or S-off, then it's asking for trouble.
The discussed RUU is a signed update that does not invoke S-off or root the phone so should not create an "obvious" problem.
The way I updated my phone was as follows:
- I already had HTC Sync installed on my PC
- Fully charged phone
- Downloaded the RUU file to folder on hard disk
- Temporarily disabled my antivirus
- Temporarily disabled standby power saving option on PC
- Connected the phone as normal and selected the option on phone to do Sync
- I let the phone completely finish sync
- I ran the RUU on the PC and followed the simple instructions.
- It took about 10 minutes with no user intervention required.
I don't know if the whole HTC Sync thing is necessary, it was on my PC anyway and the procedure has worked OK for me.
I can now confirm this has all worked for me. no problems so far!
Thanks for all your help fasty! Very much appreciated.

[Q] Sending Sensation back for repair - Warranty Q

Hi, i am sending mine back tomorrow as well.
Do I have to put it back to S-ON? I've heard its risky.
Best to, and it's not risky if you follow the guide to a T
Make sure you've set the CID back to what it should be before doing it (assuming you changed it in the first place)
Hey, it looks like mine's going back as well.
I'm a little unsure of which version HTC rom was default on it because I bought it from Pixmania and not a carrier.
It originally had Vodafone branding and the box is written in German.
I don't think I've changed off of the original kernel or radio as I've only switched roms through ROM Manager since I rooted the phone using these instructions.
-ANkh
I too am wondering the same thing, but my problem is slightly different. My phone wont even power on so i was unable to s-on factory rom it, im unsure of what exactly needs to be replaced on the phone so idk if theyre gonna be able to see that the software has been changed.
Hi again,
I found my CID: VODAP102, it's for Vodafone Germany.
Where can I find the matching stock ROM?
Thanks,

Yes it did, HTC UK repaired the phone and converted it to a stock HTC UK phone without any German or Vodafone stuff on it anymore.
They didn't charge me anything for it.

Help restoring Orange Uk HTC One S to stock?

Hi There,
I've sold my HTC One S and need to reflash it to stock. It was originally on Orange UK.
I can't find the Orange UK rom or RUU anywhere.
While I don't think the buyer will know or care what ROM it has, the HTC boot screen saying its running a software build owned by HTC doesn't really help.
Has anyone got any ideas of what I can do?
Thanks,
Omar

OKAY,
1. Try flashing stock recovery hopefully the initial boot image shall be gone ELSE
2. Save your CID, change it to generic CID like 11111111, run 2.2 RUU(EUR firmware or your firmware if available) (by this time you should have manually flashed stock recovery, and bootloader locked), after this your phone is completely STOCK! If wanna return back to orange, unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery, gain root and change the cid back to original! than flash stock recovery and bootloader lock!

OTA Update on rooted One S (S4)

Hello
I've got a rooted One S, i'm trying to get the sense 4.1 OTA update but with no luck. I currently have the stock rom and just yesterday flashed a stock recovery. I managed to download the update but about a quarter of the way through the installation I got a red triangle. About five minutes later the phone reboots and i'm back to square one. I've also tried looking for an ruu for tmobile uk but to no avail.
Have you tried pressing VOL UP on the triangle?
Check for updates by going into the dialer and typing *#*#2432546#*#* (numbers stand for CHECKIN). Stay with the update the whole way through. Or better yet, since you're rooted change your CID to HTC__001 and run the 2.38 unbranded RUU.

What does vol up do? I just tried it but nothing happened, and also do you know where i can find the ruu?
I'm also with T-Mobile UK and unfortunately there are no RUUs. Which is why I suggested de-branding. How about holding the VOL UP button? I think that was it.

Hmm. At this stage I think the best option would be to de-brand yourself, run an unbranded RUU and then change your CID to T-MOB005 to receive the update. Then that should work.
