Got my Xoom tablet back after the whole Motorola LTE upgrade. Looking to root and put on a nice custom ROM. But I'm afraid that the current ROMs may not work with 4G, and keep me at 3G.
Do any of the current ROMs work? Or do I have to wait for one based off Android 3.2.2?
I know there's a stock 3.2.2 ROM, but I wanted to finally be able to use my OTG cable.
dont do it... i'm still trying to get my 3g/4g/wifi back right now... so many issues in doing so... wait for a stable release
That's what I wanted to know before doing this. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully the devs will have something good for us soon.

lol. more importantly, i hope the devs figure out how to fix my screw up... i dont wanna use up another warranty claim.
I have rooted my Xoom after received it back from Motorola but i have not find a nice custom rom yet, if anyone find one please report back.
Thanks a lot
I think a lot of the devs are holding off and waiting on ICS to be released, at least I know that's what they're doing with the Tiamat ROM.

There are none yet, and you still need the recovery, but fear not, Koush just released the Droid 2 bootstrap on the Market and on his site.
Hi,
Is there any person or developer who can port CyanogenMod Rom on our Defy?
Or do you guys have any idea regarding this? How can we attract the attention to any developers towards our Defy?
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/screenshots
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/
CyanogenMod Rom works on Droid. So That should work on our Defy as well.
Looking forward to hear your ideas guys......
We need a recovery first
How can we get that recovery?
Wait for it to be sorted - it will come, just got to be patient
What does it really mean that we need recovery and why? Please explain in a way that a noob can get it.or diect me to a place to read thanks!
Bcs recovery is needed to get the modded ROM onto the DEFY!
You need to replace/modify allot of things and this is not as easy as getting a non market app onto your mobile
And i guess there are much more people looking for a 2.2 or perhaps 2.3 then waitin for a CyanogenMod Rom!?

The modded recovery is out... Please Cyanogen make a miracle...!
my main phone is a G2, and have yet to run a CM rom, I'm, more then happy with what we have so far for the Defy, and thanks everyone efforts, if someone ports an OEm Sense Rom over this way well that's another story lol
You know what I am with the guy above. Im loving what I got so far. And in the new year I will probably do my own custom rom. I am not in any rush to get 2.2 at the moment, and im getting an android tablet today so hack time is being diverted to that
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

Google, you need to be prepare to read - alot.
Everything I have learnt is from googling - all the various android forums.
Hi, i asked google a lot, but can´t find a realy gooo anser what excatly todo.
I can compile my own rom from source, but what is with driver?Firmware?
How i implement this?
Is the bootloader locked the same way as it is on milestone, droid x and droid 2? Or is it hack friendly and we can load any custom kernel?
I missed this thread before.
I would love to see CM's rom on the Defy. In fact I would have no problem donating to the individual who makes it happen
no way!
No one wants to hack the defy!
Would easy i guess for a realy hacker.
But no one do it.
All want to give motorola devices back or won´t buy it.
Poor.

And ofcourse, if you find yourself in any situation where your phone might get wet or dropped, there's no point in comparing them.
Until froyo(kernel) is released by motorola, we can "only" have a CM5 port for the defy.
It would be great trying froyo kernel without any modules and having them replaced by DEFY ones... Doing that we would know if motorola uses the same key for all the androids
I have been checking their tweeter and their page wich is called Android 4.0 ice cream sandwich / the officila motorola blog...... ok the point is that they have been saying that they will soon add more news on ICS support for other devices. Guess What !!!! that page is changing and the previous info is gone, the only remains are the comments. I hope this means they are uploading the new info and support fo the atrix 2 will be confirmed
YAY! Good news!
I wish they said: "Meh... we decided to unlock bootloaders once and for ever"

Just keep checking through cheesecake, to get some "leaked" alpha/beta versions that way... Stop depending on Moto to get you an official anything, look how long it took them to fix all the issues with 2.3.5 when the bionic already had it for several months, and the razr which was released one month after our phone was released with 2.3.7. It is real important to check ALL servers at least once daily, EVERYONE needs to do this, to catch these updates, as they do not stay up very long... once we have that, then lfaber06 and I can work our magic on it, and get us some "stable" ICS leaked ROMs.
Also don't install anything from cheesecake, just post it someplace and let lfaber06 and I know, where we can grab it, and pull it apart.
Okay Jim i will be glad to help, i am new in this android stuff and currently waiting my unlocked atrix 2 as i live in Colombia and need the bands opened. Once i get my baby i´ll gladly help to get some alpha or beta ICS with the cheesecake method.
As I´m a newbie i´ll have to read and instruct myself in android before trying anything in my phone.

There is a ton of info in here.... I have been one of about 15 or so pioneers of this phone, and one of our first devs in here, so we are all here to help you.
For information on cheesecake, take a look at this:

To get familiar with this phone and all the things we can do, and need as well as some n00b things... look here:

Okay i have been reading as i said. its really the A2 that bad without a Custom Rom?, should i flash the custom ROM immediatly or is the stock worth a try?

If you're looking for pre-tweaked build.props, overclock, a little bit more customization, and/or debloat, go custom. Nothing wrong with stock though, imo. I have stock 2.3.6 rooted, uninstalled the bloat, flashed a themed systemui, and use GoLauncher. Works fine, great battery life and performance.

The current ROMs are all based off of stock right now, so just try out the bone stock for a while and see what you think... since I do so much dev work, I am always working on and testing some new ROM, so I am not a good basis.
So, thanks to Shabby and others, I've got this rooted...the question now is, are there custom ROMs for it? I don't want to risk flashing an ordinary Photon 4G ROM into it, as given how fragmented the Android landscape is that could well brick it.
I'm thinking an AOSP type, similar to the old Blandroid, as I intend to use mine for long-range SSH and Unix sysadmin stuff...so, something stable and fairly vanilla.

I'm posting after I don't even know how long just to remind you that that is the stupidest thing to do. Anyone with the brains to realize that they can do custom stuff to their phone and set off to find ways to do it (Example, stumbling upon XDA) should also have the brains to know that doing that won't work.
Edit: Don't think I'm being an a hole or anything towards you, I'm just making sure nobody stumbles upon this thread and gets the idea to do that.
N/A - not bricked.

I found a sight that showed some experimental roms for the photon q. Any idea if there is anything on the horizon for the photon q. I would love to have the jelly bean on it. I did download and flash the asanti build and also arrrrgh kernel so it's running at 1.89mhz. But I really don't see much on the difference in the rom from stock. Just wishin.
Roms
I flashed Asanti mostly works fine. Only thing that bugs me is I can't get my antivirus to work.
If I brick it I will just have to either fix it or buy a new one, no big deal.

CM10 has been informally released - but it's for GSM only right now.
Edit - now that I check the rest of the forums, it's formal.

we have cm 12.1 for our device also thanks to @Unjustified Dev http://androidforums.com/threads/h631-ms631-beta-cyanogenmod-12-1-for-lg-g-stylo.926968/
from what i read in that thread he has let another dev take over for him and im sure they will upload new builds for us as soon as they can...patience is a virtue
we also have @GameTheory. helping us as well as others i cant think of at the moment (its way too early, hopefully they will chime in)...but yeah i would definitely love to see more roms for this phone too. i do like the stock lg rom though, and combined with xposed/some buildprop tweaks ive made, im very happy with my phone in its current state that i dont mind patiently waiting for some roms to show up :good:
Yea, if we got flashable zips for the official updates I would be OK with that.

I think it is possible to extract KDZ files using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600575 and then repack them for flashing via custom recovery
Furthermore, you can download your current KDZ file (if available) from this link
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=YOUR_IMEI_HERE
You need to replace YOUR_IMEI_HERE with your own IMEI, visible on the box, behind the battery or by typing *#06# in your phone dialer
Okay cool i wished i knew how to build roms but as long as this awesome phone dont be left for dead im happy with that. Would be great to see more than just cyanogenmod roms though
