Try downloading ROM Manager from the market and flashing CWM Recovery from within the app.
Once you've flashed recovery you can put a ROM on your SD, boot to Recovery, and flash

iam gona try and tell u...
thnx in advance

You just need to reinstall recovery again, but since your unrooted with soff its a little different.
Huge thanks goes to gene for this file.
1)download file and rename to PD98IMG.zip--- must be exact caps matter, make sure you don't add an extra. Zip happens alot.
2)place in root of SD card-not in a folder
3)flash through hboot
4)done you have cwr and can flash a custom rom

The name of the zip must be exactly "PD98IMG.zip" sans the quotes of course and to flash through HBoot, power the phone off>press and hold the Volume Down key/button and Power at the same time>release the keys/buttons when you get a white screen w/an android and text>it will search for the PD98IMG and upon finding it will ask if you want to update>confirm by pressing Volume Up>reboot when prompted by pressing the Power button.
Tx

thnx
iam trying it now and will tell u about it
there a way to chk if the rom i downloaded is not corrupt or etc
and before flashing or after do hav to do anything els llike audio fix etc
thanks

the h-boot doesnt search for any file
there the recovery option when i open it it goes to {android system recovery 3e}
i did everything but its not working ;(

Where did you rename the file? If you did it on a windows machine the default is to hide the extentions and you probably have the extra. Zip I mentioned. Verify the file name with a file manager on your phone. Just trying to rule out the most common mistakes

you're right, i guess my question should have been worded differently asking if the OP was SURE he didnt have root. it pretty obvious that he's new to android customization, which is why i asked exactly what ROM Manager said when he ran it.

YOu have to be rooted for rom manager to work. Your best bet would be to use the hack kit. Please do your research before modding your phone. What you are doing could leave you with a device that doesnt work and cant be returned.

You're right in saying that the only way to root on DSS is currently XTCclip.
But as for ROMs the only ones you'd be able to instal (except official ones) are the customs that you'll find in the android development section of this forum (although I don't believe that any are available through ROM manager).
there are four or five different cooks.....to choose from, but the number has doubled in the last week alone so things are certainly looking up.

would i be correct in saying that once i s-off'd my phone and then rooted it, i would be able to uninstall the apps installed by my telco?
i'm not opposed to using the rom installed by my telco, it seems fast enough. i only want to uninstall their stupid bloody apps (which aren't actually apps, but rather links to their website).

Can you root using Gingerbreak ? Cuz i read that you need to flash an unsecured boot.img to make SuperOneClick work. What's the difference?

i might look into buying myself an xtc clip.

I used gingerbreak 1.2 to root after getting s-off and it has done nothing at all to damage my sd-card
It made the card un-mountable when you tried to temp root with out s-off, but that was easy fixed with a battery out reboot

copy the data from the card to your computer first.
then after you've run gingerbreak, copy the data back.
or, go buy another sdcard. they're very cheap.

S-OFF doesn't give you root. You have to flash a PG(somenumbersican'tremember).zip file and you will have root then (read the sticky in dev section)

Since you're having so much trouble flashing the su .zip file, I would recommend skipping it in favor of a pre-rooted ROM.
Go to the DEV section and pick a ROM. I'm using LeeDroid right now. Download the ZIP file and put it on the root of your sdcard. Boot into Clockwork (either with VOLUME DOWN or use the command "adb reboot recovery" if you have adb) and flash the ZIP of the new ROM. I've found that my stock Sensation ROM hated Superuser. YMMV

Try it again. I believe, from reading the troubleshooting part of the noob guide, that you may have to try to flash it a few times. I had to try 2-3 times and then it just worked. Make sure you read that guide+troubleshooting part thoroughly incase some of it applies to you. Or, if you want a ROM as well, skip it all and read up on flashing a ROM. Make sure you understand what you are doing, as you can royally mess up!

[Q] Possibly bricked my device?

I was trying to install the new Android Revolution HD ICS Rom, I installed it through ROM Manager and it wouldn't boot up. I thought I would try and update my phone with PG58IMG.zip in the bootloader, however it says the CID is wrong, and I now can't access anything in the bootloader or recovery to try and fix it. Anyone got any ideas of something I can do? To at least remove PG58IMG.zip from my SD Card anyway.
Thanks
Umm...pull out the SD card before booting the phone...? Maybe...? -_-

Do you know why Android Revolution HD won't boot up after being flashed? It's the same version you have according to your signature.

Sounds to me like you don't have SuperCID.
In order to be able to flash the firmware that Mike provides, you need to have SuperCID.
Check the tutorial on how to do that in the S-Off,Root,SuperCID thread here.
I have S-OFF, however the bootloader says locked? I now can't boot into any ROM it seems. Not sure what's wrong?
EDIT: Managed to get boot by restoring old backup. Now going to try flashing ROM again, could be something to do with ICS Rom maybe. Thanks for your help everyone. However anyone who knows why I can't flash any ICS Rom, please let me know
U also need 3.12 firmware if upgrading to ics. Correct me if i am wrong.

Actually both. Where do I begin?
The unlockr has the revolutionary method on there. That's how most of us did it. Make sure all the links work before u use it.
Once u follow through with that, use rom manager to update to the latest clockwork mod.
Once u get rooted make a backup of ur stock rooted rom and start flashing whatever u want
Use undeadk9's rubix ics 5.2 from page 180 with the messaging fix zip in the op page 1
Follow the directions I posted on page 148
=) that's the best, fastest, and most stable rom atm. But there's a few real ics roms out there if u wanna play around with them.

If your HBOOT version is 1.45.0013 (get into HBOOT by turning off fast boot in settings, turning off your phone, and then holding volume down and power), you won't be able to get perma-root until HTC fixes their bootunlocker or until someone else devises a method to get S-OFF.

We have discovered that if your machine is S-OFF you can flash any version hboot you want. I swap back and forth between all 4 consistently.
----
Shawn411:
They got you covered, just run revolutionary and S-OFF the device, then you can do anything you want after that.
You will start with CWM 4.0.0.8 if you choose to install during the Rev process, if not then you will be S-OFF with stock recovery.

Replacing Stock Recovery: Clockworkmod
If you have S-OFF but stock recovery, the easiest method is to:
1 - Follow the instructions in This Thread to get temp root.
2 - Without rebooting, add your market account to the device.
3 - Install ROM Manager from the market.
4 - Flash Clockworkmod through ROM Manager.
5 - What you do next is up to you (but a clockworkmod backup isn't a bad idea.)

Okay, I used Revolutionary to S-OFF my device. It gave me the option to install clockworkmod recovery. I typed in yes but my recovery still looks the same as stock. All it says at the top is Revolutionary~ and all the other information.
...that is your hboot menu.
Hit volume down to select recovery in the list, then press power to accept - now you will see your recovery.

Well I have 4ext recovery well pretty much everything I can flash custom just would like s-off so where would I find these ruu because HTC dev don't have them apart from Android 4.0 which is hboot 2. Unless you mean PG88IMG is like flashing a different version of 4ext? I'm sorry for all these questions just want a clear enough picture before I attempt the downgrade and thank you for helping me hopefully this one should be my last.

Struggling how? When u done the misc version, did u type in the number of the ruu ur going to use? 1.47.401.4
Can you check CID? That will help us to choose right RUU for your phone.
When you do misc_version successfully you have to reboot in bootloader and start RUU.RUU install from bootloader. Then it will check is your misc_version is ok.

The misc version has been detected by the ruu but it says that my battery is low when I try to flash it so it won't flash and my battery is 100% charged
