My Fonix VoiceDial keeps bringing up the Settings for Voices and Parameters instead of just going straight to voice dial.
I have to press ok before i can speak to dial a number right pain in the ass.
Can't find why it is doing this any ideas?
I think it's because you haven't selected a reading voice. You must select one of these so it can read back the contact details.
It seems very smart at recognising contacts - but not so good at determining a YES from a NO!
I have some problems with the Ms Voice Command:
I had installed two of the CABs of this program, which I found here in one of the threads:
"Microsoft.Voice.Command.v1.6.21725.cab"
"MSVC-1.0 Control.cab" (for setting the "TFlo3d Phone key" to the "Voice Command Button").
I also set to "Set rate to 1 Slower" and "Increase the volume to 5"
The problems:
1. The play-back/response of the program is very fast and usually can't be understood.
2. When I'm Trying to call by saying a phone number (e.g. "Dial 04-818-2905"), the program don't understand my command numbers and repeats a wrong number.
3. I lost hope and I'm trying to remove the program, but I'm getting an announcement that the program can't be fully uninstalled. Practically the program isn't removed. I made a few reboots, I made reinstall, I set the "TFlo3d Phone key" back to "phone" (it's still functioning as a "Voice Command Button").
Can someone help me with one or some of those problems? especially with removing the program, before I'll need no make a full-reset.
I can help you with number 2: if you're using the US version, you can only use the US phone number format to dial. If you live somewhere else, use the UK version.
if you just want to call people, try using Cyberon Voice Speed dial with BT FIX.
If you need more, I can't be of much help. De-installing goes via settings-applications-remove

I'm certainly trying to uninstall only "via settings-applications-remove".
AT&Ts website says that it supports voice dialing. The Samsung Galaxy S website says that there should be a Voice Command app. Where is it? I don't see it anywhere! I paried up my bluetooth headset and when I push the button (which on my last phone would activate Voice Dial) nothing happens.
Anyone??
Voice dialing via bluetooth on Android 2.1 doesn't work.
Android 2.2 fixes it (Nexus One FTW!), who knows when Captivate will get the update.
Tap and hold the Search button to activate voice search.
There should be an app called Voice Dialing. Use that to voice dial.

I beg to differ, I just figured this out. You can say "call -contact name-" and it dials the number.

Don't know what magic you're doing, but when I do that it just does a google search for "call [contact name]"
My Captivate does the same thing, I have tried to voice dial and all it does is google search. Everyone keeps saying there is an app but there isn't. It is pissing me off, I downloaded apps and none of them work. This really really bites.
I will be watching this thread anxiously.
But I may be making progress! I have purchased VLingo, and it looks like it may end up working like Microsoft Voice Command.
I just did a "Call <First/Last Name> on Mobile, and it dialed".
I'll post back as I progress. This is exactly what I"m looking for.

I'm not sure either then. I simply hold the search button at the bottom-right of the phone, it prompts for voice, then i simply say "call XXXXXXX" and it dials. I do have to say the entire contact name, though, both first and last name, exactly how it appears in the list. But it works
I just tried it and it worked for me too. FAST.
What is missing is a validation step, like MS Voice command offers. It will never understand you correctly all the time.
No Voice Dial for Me Too!
I don't seem to have the ability to voice dial either.
Speaking a contact's name into the Google utility only pulls up a Google search.
I would be interested to know if the people that are having similar problems have their phones rooted or not.
I am rooted.
I am rooted, as of this morning, and it was just an hour or so when I realized I could do it with Google search and didn't need Vlingo

I could do it before I was rooted
When I use voice dial I have to say contact name and either mobile or home or work to get it to work right.
How is Voice Dial Activated?
How, exactly, are successful users activating Voice Dial?
Is it just by pressing the microphone button on the Google search bar on the home screen? Or is there supposed to be a dedicated "Voice Dial" app?
Also, where are the settings located to configure voice dial?
I was able to get it work. I use the google search widget and click the microphone then speak. BUT, it only finds contacts that are from Google. If I try to call any of my Exchange contacts it does a google lookup, but if it is a contact from google sync (gmail/voice) it works fine.
I can't get mine to work. Been trying it for the past two days.
The google search voice command isn't voice dialing for me. I have no idea what is going on. HELP ME lol

I can't wait for a custom ROM to fix all the problems including this.
We've Been Scammed!!!
AT&T has scammed us!
I chatted online today with ATT support and the person said that I would have to pay monthly for their voice dial service. After telling her, politely, where to stick her voice dial service, she suggested that I contact Samsung.
After 45 mins, and two support people later, it was finally explained to me that the Captivate is the only version of the Galaxy S that does NOT come equipped with the Voice Command software and that I would have to purchase a third party app from the Market in order to get that capability.
So what it looks like to me is that ATT had the voice command function removed on the Captivate so they could push their own voice dial plan for $4.99 per month.
BASTERDS!!!
I can't wait for the ROMs to start rolling out so I can exact my revenge!

you have to say the full name thats in the address book for it to immediately dial as well. if you dont it shows the "did you mean" box and you can choose from there.
I installed Vlingo from Marketplace. Works like a charm. The programs from Marketplace are all pretty cheap compared to WindowsMobile.
My voice dial works. however I have to enunciate very clearly and quickly.
"call Contact Name" brings me to the Contact's page to select which number to dial.
"call Contact Name mobile" dials immediately.
There is even a confirmation feature for my phone where it gives a pop up with my Contact's picture with a ring slowly rotating around it with an option to "dial" or "cancel" doing nothing until the ring completes it's 360 degree rotation will default to dialing, pressing dial will dial immediately, and cancel will cancel the command.
My firmware version is 2.1-update1

anyone have trouble setting google voice as their primary voicemail?
when i download the app, and go through the initial setup, i sign in with my account, hit "next", select "do not use google voice to make any calls", hit "next", hit "configure", then i select the "google voice" option instead of "my carrier" - and i get an error message that says "call settings error: failed to retrieve and save current forwarding number settings. do you want to switch to the new provider anyway?"
i select "yes", and then i get another error message that says "call settings error: forwarding number change unsuccessful. please contact your carrier if your problem persists".
anyone else run into this issue? even if you haven't run into this issue, any suggestions for how to get around it? i only want to contact my carrier as a last resort, because i doubt at&t is going to know how/care to solve this issue.
any advice would be appreciated - i only want to use google voice for my voicemail! thanks in advance.
Was having the same problem and found this - worked fine - but needed to reboot:
"Go into the settings at voice.google.com and deactivate your phone and reactivate it. The deactivate step will give a code to enter in your phone...skip that. Next, click on activate this phone and it will give you a string to dial...something like *004*yourgooglevoicenumber#"
Just go online and make sure your phone is active, then enter that string *004*1...#
at what point during this process are you rebooting? i still can't get it to work...

The first time I did it it didn't work - after reinstalling going through setup, letting it fail, and then doing the steps, and then rebooting it worked perfectly. So yeah, thanks!
I got it to work but it changed my voice mail greeting. Can I not have the generic AT&T greeting while using google visual voice mail.
could somebody please post the EXACT steps, step by step, of how they got it to work? i.e., when you reboot, when you uninstall/reinstall google voice, whether you set it up through google voice settings or call settings in the general phone settings...
i've tried every permutation of every post on here, and i still can't get it to work for some reason.
edit: turns out that, even though it says there was a failure in the forwarding, it still works... when i call my phone, my google voice mailbox picks up - and when i leave a message, google voice gets that message and gives me an alert... strange. people actually got it to setup where they didn't receive an error? it works, but my voicemail settings in the phone's call settings doesn't say "google voice" - it still says "my carrier".
I don't think he's being clear in his post, I don't think there is way to get it to work through the GV app. Dialing the *004*+1#* changes your voice mail provider on the phone, but doesn't change the dialogue box in the phone options, it will still say "My carrier".
I used the *004* method and my phone forwards to GV and notifies of voicemail just as you described. That's how it should work =)
I pretty much followed his post. I visited the GV settings online, deactivated the phone using the codes they gave me, uninstalled the application. Reinstalled the app, then activated the phone on the site using the codes they gave me and rebooted my phone. To test it I called myself and it went straight to google voice, then upon launching the application it went to the inbox instead of the set up. This worked for me, and I don't think I'm missing any steps.

this is what i needed to hear all along.
i was waiting for the settings to take effect in the call settings (i.e., switch from "my carrier" to "google voice"), but this isn't going to happen on our phone.
however, even though this doesn't happen, google voice still becomes your primary voicemail.
thanks for making that clear!
Thanks for the tips after spending 25 minutes on the phone with the att rep who didn't help one bit this worked perfectly.

Thanks for this!! Worked GREAT!
Sorry for not being clear - it still says my carrier - but works with GV... same thing on my phone.
I had the same issue as well.
Mine is now set to "Google Voice" under Voicemail Service. This is even after a reboot but GV voicemails were fine even when set as "My carrier". So not sure why it changed.
I just made sure under Settings -> Call -> Call forwarding that my GV number was set for
"Forward when busy"
"Forward when unanswered"
"Forward when unreachable"
When I select GV as Voicemail Service, it gave me the same error but it stayed. Strange. But GV has always worked for me no matter what it displayed. Long as it was set properly under the "Forward ..." options.
Thanks this was bugging me!

In case people didn't realize the Google Voice setup just sets up forwarding nothing else. Also forwarding is at the line level and not device. So if you take the SIM out and put it in an iphone or anything else it will continue going to Google Voice until you change it manually. Just FYI,

Hi guys
Just wandering if anyone can throw some light on the reason my gear s3 refuses to voice dial, it understands my request no issues and displays the command on the screen
" Call dave" for example, the s3 hears it, displays it correctly
there is one contact with dave who has 1 number assigned
the s3 thinks for a second or 2 then displays " i did not get that" or " who do you want to call" it simply refuses to read contacts
stupid thing, it just displayed everything it needed but it just refuses to work, initially i thought contacts would be transferred to the watch, now i realise its a server thing but this has been like this now for a week since i got it so i cant see it being a server down issue
The phone i am using is a S7 edge with latest update and it is not running anything other than standard firmware and a square home from end, which is the w10 look
i tried resetting the watch but no joy, i tried changing the watch language to US no joy, checked the phone is syncing contacts to samsungs storage
and doing a search on the net actually brings up very little info on this issue
has anyone got any thoughts, here in the Uk having a device that voice dials whilst driving is a real must, i have BT in the car but dialing it is a pain so the watch would be a real help... if it would freakin work
TBH i wish i could use Cortana for voice assist, but that aint gona happen
The more i try different voice commands the more the issue points to lack of sync with contacts... what am i missing ?? just tried to send a text via voice and the s3 watch cant find any contacts
Hmm i had an almost whilst messing with the thing just now, i changed language from English auto to just English... now when i ask it to call a name the watch displays ( Contacts syncing ) that is as far as i have got, it still refuses to dial anyone, and checking my contacts in the watch they are all there
i have a similar issue, when I say call XXX, its then says "syncing contacts" and sites there, If manually go into contacts and call someone its fine, why it decides it needs to sync contacts at this point I dont know, why, must be a bug.
