Fonix VoiceDial - General Topics

My Fonix VoiceDial keeps bringing up the Settings for Voices and Parameters instead of just going straight to voice dial.
I have to press ok before i can speak to dial a number right pain in the ass.
Can't find why it is doing this any ideas?

I think it's because you haven't selected a reading voice. You must select one of these so it can read back the contact details.
It seems very smart at recognising contacts - but not so good at determining a YES from a NO!

Dialing "p" for wait

Hi,
in the old (and current I believe as well) Nokia phone - and most other pure mobile phones for that matter - you can dial a "p", typically by holding down the "*" for a while. The "p" makes the phone wait a little while before continuing to dial the rest of the number.
I need this feature!!!
I am using some prepaid phone cards for which this feature is really necessary.
So, anyone have a clue how to get a similar functionality on WM5? The "p" certainly does not work ...
Thanks in advance - Andy
if you're dialing live, you can dial only the connection number then open the keypad to dial the rest of the keycode manually. If you want to automate it, create a contact with the full number and you can enter in "p" there.
I have a contact for my voicemail which dials the voicemail and waits and the pin + #. this works great with voicecommand cause all I have to do is say "call voicemail" and it'll dial, enter in the password automatically and I don't have to touch the phone at all...
Interesting ... I did migrate all my number from my previous phone, where i had the "p" included in the number. The numbers also seemingly came up correctly on the PPC phone. However, when I tried to dial the number, it would not take the complete number with the "p" - I cannot remember exactly what it did, but it did not dial the whole thing. Thats why I thought/ hoped that there is another way. I guess, after what you are saying, I should give it another try ...
And yes, the application that you are describing is very similar to what I want to use. There is a prepaid international call provider, which has a local dial-in number and lets me call abroad for very little money. I call the local number - the service provider recognizes my account by the incoming phone number of my mobile - and then I dial the destination number. For the recognising part however, it is needed that the phone waits a little before it continues to dial the destination number.
Alright, alright .... works! Thx for the assurance! Tried it again and it just takes a lot longer - the pause is longer - than it used to be on my Nokia. Also, I do not hear the dialing tones after the "p" anymore, which probably put me off before.
Thanks! Thread closed
Try replacing the "p" with a "," . It will pause for a few seconds once the other side picks up the phone.

Google Voice directly from Android dialer?

I want my Google Voice phone # to appear on others' Caller ID when I call people from my Aria. But, from what I understand, that is only possible if I first go into the GV app and dial form there. That obviously is pretty inefficient.
Is there an app or tweak that would enable me to have my GV # appear when I dial directly from my Aria's phone keypad?
Thanks in advance.
I have the Hero and the phone dialer gives me the option at each call to call using the phone or Voice. Very handy since sometimes calling a # that called on Voice I would accidentally call using the cell # since selling on any online forum the # posted is my Voice # not cell.
Add the Google Voice widget to the home screen and click it to cycle the options.
Billy
I do think there should be simple menu items for "Call with Google Voice" when using the dialer or long pressing on a contact. And I think there should be options to "always call with GV" for each contact as well as for each contact group. It's mind blowing how poorly Google Voice is integrated into Android.
Billy
(Sorry, I didn't have time for the rant earlier!)
Yeah Google Voice will dial each time automatically or prompt you each time depending on what setting you choose.
At first I chose to make all my calls through Google voice.. Seemed great. I could use that # all the time. But I noticed something. Everyone I talked to, we were both always cutting each other off, all the time. It was very awkward and hard to talk.
So I did a test and called them without it and it was a normal conversation. I did this with 4 different people and it was all the same. Awkward and hard to talk over Google Voice, and normal without.
Conclusion? Goggle Voice is an awesome concept!! But totally sucks to actually use unless you have to because it has lag and makes it hard to talk. I hope they improve it but right now it’s only use as far as I’m concerned is to give out as a # for people to leave you VMs. Then call them back on your real #.

Voice Command???

AT&Ts website says that it supports voice dialing. The Samsung Galaxy S website says that there should be a Voice Command app. Where is it? I don't see it anywhere! I paried up my bluetooth headset and when I push the button (which on my last phone would activate Voice Dial) nothing happens.
Anyone??
Voice dialing via bluetooth on Android 2.1 doesn't work.
Android 2.2 fixes it (Nexus One FTW!), who knows when Captivate will get the update.
Tap and hold the Search button to activate voice search.
There should be an app called Voice Dialing. Use that to voice dial.

I beg to differ, I just figured this out. You can say "call -contact name-" and it dials the number.

Don't know what magic you're doing, but when I do that it just does a google search for "call [contact name]"
My Captivate does the same thing, I have tried to voice dial and all it does is google search. Everyone keeps saying there is an app but there isn't. It is pissing me off, I downloaded apps and none of them work. This really really bites.
I will be watching this thread anxiously.
But I may be making progress! I have purchased VLingo, and it looks like it may end up working like Microsoft Voice Command.
I just did a "Call <First/Last Name> on Mobile, and it dialed".
I'll post back as I progress. This is exactly what I"m looking for.

I'm not sure either then. I simply hold the search button at the bottom-right of the phone, it prompts for voice, then i simply say "call XXXXXXX" and it dials. I do have to say the entire contact name, though, both first and last name, exactly how it appears in the list. But it works
I just tried it and it worked for me too. FAST.
What is missing is a validation step, like MS Voice command offers. It will never understand you correctly all the time.
No Voice Dial for Me Too!
I don't seem to have the ability to voice dial either.
Speaking a contact's name into the Google utility only pulls up a Google search.
I would be interested to know if the people that are having similar problems have their phones rooted or not.
I am rooted.
I am rooted, as of this morning, and it was just an hour or so when I realized I could do it with Google search and didn't need Vlingo

I could do it before I was rooted
When I use voice dial I have to say contact name and either mobile or home or work to get it to work right.
How is Voice Dial Activated?
How, exactly, are successful users activating Voice Dial?
Is it just by pressing the microphone button on the Google search bar on the home screen? Or is there supposed to be a dedicated "Voice Dial" app?
Also, where are the settings located to configure voice dial?
I was able to get it work. I use the google search widget and click the microphone then speak. BUT, it only finds contacts that are from Google. If I try to call any of my Exchange contacts it does a google lookup, but if it is a contact from google sync (gmail/voice) it works fine.
I can't get mine to work. Been trying it for the past two days.
The google search voice command isn't voice dialing for me. I have no idea what is going on. HELP ME lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I can't wait for a custom ROM to fix all the problems including this.
We've Been Scammed!!!
AT&T has scammed us!
I chatted online today with ATT support and the person said that I would have to pay monthly for their voice dial service. After telling her, politely, where to stick her voice dial service, she suggested that I contact Samsung.
After 45 mins, and two support people later, it was finally explained to me that the Captivate is the only version of the Galaxy S that does NOT come equipped with the Voice Command software and that I would have to purchase a third party app from the Market in order to get that capability.
So what it looks like to me is that ATT had the voice command function removed on the Captivate so they could push their own voice dial plan for $4.99 per month.
BASTERDS!!!
I can't wait for the ROMs to start rolling out so I can exact my revenge!

you have to say the full name thats in the address book for it to immediately dial as well. if you dont it shows the "did you mean" box and you can choose from there.
I installed Vlingo from Marketplace. Works like a charm. The programs from Marketplace are all pretty cheap compared to WindowsMobile.
My voice dial works. however I have to enunciate very clearly and quickly.
"call Contact Name" brings me to the Contact's page to select which number to dial.
"call Contact Name mobile" dials immediately.
There is even a confirmation feature for my phone where it gives a pop up with my Contact's picture with a ring slowly rotating around it with an option to "dial" or "cancel" doing nothing until the ring completes it's 360 degree rotation will default to dialing, pressing dial will dial immediately, and cancel will cancel the command.
My firmware version is 2.1-update1

[Q] Voice Dialer

After a struggle, I have successfully paired my NS with a Parrot CK3000 Bluetooth car kit. This is great because I can now activate the voice dialer from my steering wheel... however, the voice recognition on the NS voice dialer is less than useless!!!! It does not recognise names very well and you end up calling random people. Trying to "Call Sam", always ends up calling Simon. I have tried changing the voice settings to English UK (preferred), English Generic and US but no joy.
My old WM device had excellent voice dialing, worked spot on every time. At least it asked you first if the selected contact was correct! The google voice dial app just dials straight away!
Is there a better voice dialer app? Preferably one that doesn't involve active data?
Moved to Q&A
Sorry Thought this was an app question
I never use the voice dialer app, but I use the Google Voice Actions to say "call Sam" without problems. I don't know if they use the same voice engine, but you might want to try. I think it's actually called the Voice Search app. Must be US English for proper function.
Actually, might not be a good solution for you, since you have to hit accept key on the phone, so not true hands free.

[Q] google voice - easy way to dial a number with it?

I don't like the current options you get with the google voice app. 99% of the time i dont need to make a call with google voice, so getting prompted every time i make a call asking me if i want to make the call with voice or not is annoying.
What i would like is a one click way of dialing a number with google voice when i need to. Maybe a shortcut on one of the desktop - click it, it gives me the same basic interface i have now when dialing a number, and it just dials with my voice number.
Any way to do that? It's kind of dumb that even within the voice app itself, you can't just say 'call a number'. I have to go into the settings and switch it back to asking me, and then when i am done, go back and switch it back to do not ask.
