[Q] Android Revolution HD or PRIME! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question for everyone. I've rooted my transformer so I don't want to risk getting the OTA and having things screwed up. So either 1. can I just get the 3.2.1 update or 2. which ROM would you pick??
Android Revolution HD or PRIME! ??
Let me know why, thanks!

It's a matter of personal preference. They're both good IMO.
I just use Prime. If you don't want OTA, use Titanium backup or similar app and freeze DMClient.

Thanks for that, didn't even think of freezing that, I haven't done it in so long.
Would you happen to know if either of those ROMs will flash without wiping the data folder? It's not too bad to use Titanium Backup but it's so much nicer to just flash an update without worrying about.

Will i lose SuperNote if i rooted with Prime?
Also pretty much the only reason why i want to root it to get rid of the bottom bar. Will rooting solve the bottom bar problem?

I use Prime, because I think Roach is awesome and I'm not as interested in what the other ROMs I've seen here can offer. Stock was fine enough for me though, lol.

Only if you use <= 1.9.1; Prime 2.x.y has SuperNote.

Now i need to figure out if my tablet is B70 or B80

Look for the decal just below the touchpad on the edge. Your serial is there.

Sure, that'll tell you the S/N of your keyboard dock
The tablet's S/N is on the edge nearest the power connector. At least it is on my B5O

I had PRIME before, now using revolver. Looks good.
never tried the revolution.

I use Revolution on one or my two TF1s and Revolution on my HTC Inspire 4g, i love the rom, runs smooth and stable.

Thanks. Turns out i have a B50 so i assume since it isn't a B80 i can root it.

I had trouble with prime and some apps stopped working like Super Stickman Golf. I went back to revolution... never had a problem with it.

Just received my Transformer and need help

I received my Transformer about 3 1/2 hours ago. So far I think it is just great!! I do have a question I bought a 16 gb micro sd card and there are no instructions I can find in manual and I have been unable to install the card. I push it in and it just pops right back out. Any and all info on this or tips in general about the device are greatly and warmly appreciated
You just keep pushing until it locks in unless your device is defective. I had to use my thumbnail to push it in. It's pretty standard.
Just push it all the way in. It should click into place and should be flush with the casing
Also. Make sure the "words-letters" on the micro SD card are facing the screen. Use your nail or maybe to push it in

Finally got it in. never have had to push that hard with sd cards in the past. So far I really really like this device. I have tried the Xoom and the Acer Iconia and they do not compare at all to what I have experienced so far with the TRansformer. Thought about rooting it but right after turning it on I got notification of an update so I let it do its thing ad it turned out it was for 3.01 not 3.1 I guess the 3.1 update is to be pushed out tomorrow, so I believe I will wait. Any one way easier than another as far as rooting and applying cwm recovery? I notice there are a couple posted in dev section. Thanks for all of the help.

Easiest way is downgrade to .9 and use BLOB_V5 following this guide http://androidroot.mobi/asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101-root-cwm-recovery/
I suggest flashing 3.1 primeordial after rooting.

google voice has telephony dependencies which means in it's current state it will not work on a tablet without voice functions.... but the google team says they're working on it.

Optimized SD card speed, BusyBox, CIFS, Tun (OpenVPN) preloaded and root access. You can use SetCPU to downclock when you have your screen off, saves more battery. Titanium Backup is also a good one that lets you backup just about anything and disable any preloaded software.

To be honest, on phones I don't mind rooting / ROM'ing (if that's a term), but with my TF I'm way too protective. I'm beginning to realize that when you root / tinker things can definitely start to go wrong and often times bugs are introduced / performance can actually degrade over time at least. Then again, I don't have issues with battery life/speed at all or need any of the extra features provided by new kernels / ROMs. The only thing I do really miss is removing the bloat, but personally I'd rather know that the OS is coming directly from ASUS/Google and hasn't been toyed with at all
I know most people, especially on these forums will disagree though

[Q] Just got the transformer. Do I need to root it?

I have the nook color now. But I just got the transformer, and it will be here today.
Do I need to Root it like I did with the Nook color?
Any advice on things I should do up front?
Personally, ive put off rooting. My TF is smooth, fast, and responsive to the touch. After this last update, people are saying that even Netflix is no working. So no need to root for me.
But your usage might be different than mine. Try the seach box, i think theres a few posts about the advantages to rooting.
Backup
overclocking
Netflix (which sounds can be achieved without rooting now)
change your boot animation
You don't "need" to root it unless you have something that specifically requires root (like Titanium Backup, or a custom ROM you want to try, etc.). If you don't have any reason to root, you probably shouldn't. That said, you'll probably find a reason if you're in touch with your inner Android.
If you do decide to root, first make sure you don't have a B80 serial number, as I think those are still unrootable. Check the little sticker by the charger port on the bottom. B70's are maybe rootable, I've seen mixed reports. Earlier than that and you can use the one-click method or the "pure root" method, just browse the development thread.
Remember you will void your warranty and will not receive anymore OTA Updates from ASUS once you root it
And some people are having problems unrooting them, and still not getting OTA Updates
Rooting is good for things like getting rid of ads and other apps that need root access, but so far apart from these things I have had no need to root it
Silver is right. You don't have to root, it's a personal choice. Just like you didn't have to get the TF, you could have bought a iPad or cheap ass Touchpad. Will root give you some benefits that stock doesn't have? Yes, but you should know that since you've rooted your Nook Color. (You should be able to answer your own question off of that too)
Well, SwiftLegend, I turned the Nook color into more of a tablet than just an ereader.
I know the TF is a real tablet so I assumed I might not have too...

Let's start here: What's your model number? First three digits of your S/N on the sticker by the charger port.
rooting is a preference, asking people whether or not you should root (let alone, whether you "need" to root) is like asking others "what's my favorite ice cream flavor?"
just wait for your device, and ask yourself that question once you've used it after a while.
The first three of the serial number is B60

Then you can root away if you so desire.
Just for future reference, it's probably, "B6O", the letter O, not the number zero.

But again, you didn't have to. That was my whole point. Not that you also rooted your NC. It's still the same concept anyways. The NC runs a custom version of Android, rooting it gave you special features. The TF runs a stock version of Android, rooting it will give you special features.

Understood SL, I guess I got so used to working my ass off to get the nook to do what I want, I never used an actual tablet device. BTW--It is freaking awesome. Rolled it to 3.2 and it is badass.
I even like the stock launcher..(Hope you dont think bad of me for saying that)
Definitely something to by choice. Personally, I rooted as I needed chainfire 3D to play certain games and wanted to improve my sound quality with voodoo drivers. As previously mentioned keep your device unrooted until you reach a point where it is a necesity not just something most do.

Actually . . . I just looked at mine, both the sticker and the box. The "O" does look more like a letter "O" compared to the narrower "0"s (zeroes) in the S/N. Bee-Six-Oh it is.
So I stand corrected. Will you stand with me?

Meh. Whatever, Asus refers to it has B*0 was well. Maybe it was just a typo or maybe we are all wrong. Doesn't really matter though, since we all understand it either way
You don't need to but it has the advantages of overclocking and full filesystem access.
It depends on what you're about using for. I think it's always useful, because from terminal you can do anything, but without root nothing. And many great aps needs root.

Homescreen lag.
Hi, im a newbie here in these forums, i recently got a new Asus Tranformer and i love it.
The Tegra processor seems quite powerful however i've noticed that when i enable a live wallpaper the transition between homescreens lags a little bit (doesn't happen with normal wallpapers) is there a way to improve performance on my Asus TF.
Also, is there any chance superoneclick works with honeycomb 3.2, or is there another easy rooting method for this device?
Thanks in advance!
Apply a custom ROM & kernel combo, and it will be even faster.

TF101 B50 WITH PRIME ROM
MOTOROLA ATRIX - ROOTED WITH GINGERBREAK
TF101 - B80 AND WAITING
I just purchased my Asus Transformer yesterday (yes, I know that the Asus Transformer Prime is coming soon) and I was very disappointed to find out that I can't root it because it's a B80. I only have 14 days to return it so if it doesn't get root by then, I will be forced to return it.
I've been using Android since the G1 days so I'm not stranger to the platform, but there is too much that I enjoy about root and was looking forward to doing with this tablet (beginning with reskinning the hideous Asus navigation buttons back to stock Honeycomb and removing all the bloatware).
I will keep my fingers crossed as I really, really like the tablet and don't want to return it. The commitment by Asus to upgrade it to ICS (and it's hardware acceleration) and the price made me finally decide to bite the bullet on this one.

Here's another option for you. No root needed.
Go out and buy a permanent marker. Then black out the bottom area where the status bar is. Voila, you've hidden your status bar.
To bring back your status bar, use acetone.

[Q] Asus Eee Pad Transformer B80 root

Hello everyone.
I know there have been many threads concerning this topic but there does not really seem to be any improvement. My question concretely is, is there anyone currently working on a root for the b80? Or is it impossible to hack the root key?
If there is someone working on the rooting, is there an estimated date available.
Just so you know, I did actually search many many many topics on this subject but nobody seems to be able to give something concrete.
Anyway, I hope someone has some solid answers
Sincerely,
Incapable
Actually, I wasn't able to root it and though to return it back before 14 days pass, so got the Samsung GT P7510 instead and rooted it in 2 minutes , got the HDMI adapter and getting the USB stick adapter soon. IT is better screen resolution, brighter and lighter. 2 days running (without charging-only one charge) only 10% (interrupted use with stand buy mode) of battery life used. The transformer , B80,will be hard to root, so be patient.
...and any breakthrough in development will certainly be revealed first within the eee pad transformer forums.

Ok, great, but i don't see any reason to replace it with a samsung, the resolution is actually equal to the transformer, cannot agree with the brightness. I can run it for 16 hours full operating and that is more than enough for me. Anyway to stay a little on topic. I know the b80 will be hard to root, that is exactly why i created the thread.

Most probably, but maybe someone had found something somewhere else. Since there has been no update in 2 months about this I thought it might be time to just ask once more.
Here is a comparison table, 7510 has better color depth and Screen Readability in Bright Light is better.
There is a table at displaymate.com/Tablet_ShootOut_1.htm#Recommendation_3
Have a look at it.

Agreed, our friend incapable is asking if there has been any news on rooting a B80 Transformer, s/he is not asking for advice/comparison for acquiring another tablet.
It is unfortunate there hasn't been any updates floating around or any indication that it is still being worked on even. Let's just hope that we'll see some news soon. I wonder if the TF Prime will have the same SBK and if it does that should actually benefit us because there will be a flurry of new Devs attempting to root it.

Indeed, my first guess will be that the TF Prime will indeed have the same bootloader since, as far as i have seen, did not actually change anything about the software at all. It seems to be they have only made hardware changes.
Let's just hope for the best.
I don't know if I can wait for that release...
I may have to resort to flashing an older version like B70. I think there is a way to go backwards.
Have had stock rom for long enough!
Which developers are working on this? Is anyone? I'd hate to think that everyone was standing around waiting on something that no one is working on
I have a locked transformer as well, and I'd like to contribute... who should i talk to?
Razorclaw v1 to root
hey guys, today i found new way to root asus transformer ( B70/80 ) . That's Razorclaw v1 in androidroot.mobi ( i'm new user and can't post link in message, plz google it )
It works well on my transformer but it needs firmware update ( 8.6.5.19 OTA update ) . i'm not expert about android and so if you interested, check the link for further information. good luck guys...
A little hard to root it.
Razorclaw
Razorclaw is available on the Android market. It is a simple, 1-click rootingt tool for the Asus Transformer. Installs SU and busybox. Confirmed working on my B80—WW
Thanks to phyokyaw for posting
I don't think it's on the market anymore, but here's a link

razorclaw was so easy, I cried.
Now on Prime, so fantastic

Will Asus fix the lag and crashes on TF700T

Im now on 5th day with my TF700T.
So far it have been mixed feelings about it.
I love the keyboard, dont think i can have a tab without a keyboard in the future.
There is also no other tablet out there that have what I want.
The thing that worries me a bit is the lag on the device. Sometimes I must wait several seconds before it responds. And this is not the touch screen, becouse when I just wait, it will do what i wanted. This is not fun when you are sufring a simple webpage.
Will Asus fix this lag in the Jelly Bean 4.1 update?
How about people that have rooted (custom rom) their devices, do they have the same issues?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using XDA Premium HD app
ummm, i dont think anyone on here can answer that question. JB is a google OS update.
Try resetting
Then check the firmware version.
The only delays I see after tapping are when web browsing.
Everything else is snappy as far as snappy can be under Android.
Are you running in the balanced mode?
First thing I did was root mine and freeze all of the useless crap they preinstall. Havent ever had any lag issues.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. Have had the tablet just less then a week. I very surprised at just how poor the performance is on this. Here are some of the issues I'm having:
-If I leave the web browser app for other apps and then come back to it, my web pages reload. It's like the multitasking fail that is present on the HTC EVO 4G LTE or HTC One series only not as pronounced.
-Some Flash heavy websites are so choppy and laggy. Scrolling is very choppy.
-The Netflix app is almost unusable. Scrolling through my queue seems like it's getting about 5 frames per second. Oddly enough, actually watching movies plays perfectly if I can manage to scroll to select the right movie
-Some games, even ones that are promoted through the Tegra Zone are very laggy.
I really want to love this tab. It's so great for me in so many other ways but I can't live with it if this is what I can expect
I'm rooted, not unlocked, stock ROM. I've been running in performance mode. I've tried with and without Nova Launcer. I've removed or frozen everything I dare to using TB. I've looked through this and other forums for tips on improving performance but so far nothing has helped. Do I have a lemon? Are these problems common? Is this what this tab is? Please help, really want to get this thing running like I'm pretty sure it can.
im going to go ahead and assume that asus had a bad batch of tf700t's go out. i had one with the same problem and i returned it, got a new and havent experienced the same problem again. so fast and snappy that jellybean will just make this tablet crazy.
Because of some problems i have with my pad i have decided to factory reset it a week ago.
Since than the experience is sooo much better. Didn't solve my problem though

Not sure what to tell you...
I don't have any really bad slowness.
Kind of sounds like a bad processor or gpu core or other hardware bug like maybe ram errors.
IMO wouldn't say these are common problems.
*Just curious does your serial# on the bottom of the tablet start with a C6 or is it C7?
No problems here, either. I haven't rooted or done anything to mine except install updates and some apps I like - nothing that alters it really. Super happy with mine. Sorry you're having problems, but maybe you should exchange it, as previously suggested.

C6. From Amazon maybe 4 days ago. Is that older or more known to have issues. I'm still well within my return period from Amazon. If C7 is known to be better it would be worth it to me to return it and buy it from a store where I can look at the serial number on the box first. Thanks for the replies... Didn't mean to hijack the thread but it seems the op and I are having the same issue.

Ah...
You might want to return for a replacement.
I have a C7 serial and have no bugs with the tablet I received from Amazon.
No guarantees yet it might be worth shot. Amazon will treat you right.

Where do you find the serial number?
on the dock?

The tablet serial number can be found on the box the tablet came in and on the bottom of the tablet itself on a sticker (on the part of the tablet that would go into the dock if you use one).
The only difference between a C6 serial number and a C7 serial number is that one was manufactured in June and one in July (the number after the C is the month it was manufactured in)....

Maybe we should start a new thread and track the serial #s and their defects. Good way to compare range of serials with defects and spot unfixed junk that might be sold as refurbished later
For my limited use, the lag and freezing was driving me nuts. Of course, I've been down this road before with the Prime. Eventually the Prime community found the tweaks and mods to make it fly, and I admit it was part of the fun to experiment and find ways to squeeze more performance and stability from the tablet.
My problems with the Infinity seem to exacerbate when RAM goes below 200k. I can see this from the Cool Tool widget. When I get below this level, the browser is generally unusable. I use a tool called startup cleaner to minimize what launches and tried to keep widgets to a minimum but my RAM seemed to always run low. Based on this same experience with the Prime, I changed the setting in developer options to limit background processes to 2. This does a good job keeping RAM above 400K, and when I do this it runs very well. No lag or ANRs, and everything seems very fluid.
This was an early temp fix with the Prime until other mods caught up, so I don't expect this to be required long term. However, the results are really are dramatic so far and enough to keep me from going the Note 10.1 route.

That's a good tweak, and one I hadn't tried before, so thanks!
If you're unlocked, I would advise you to run...don't walk, and flash TWRP recovery and then the Zeus rom v 4.0. This is a totally different machine on that rom.
There is also the trick of turning off animations in Developer Options or set the scale to .5. That helps with smoothness, too.
My advice is not to exchange over simple lagginess if all other hardware issue are ok. There is so much more that can and will be done on the software side, but if you exchange, what if you get a tab with a major hw problem?
