after an otterbox defender or commuter or case-mate tough but not sure which case i should go for, advice please
I'm using otterbox and I'm happy with it. No problems with receiving any GPS signal...
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
I'm using otterbox commuter only problem with it is part of the top part has broken off which seems to be a common problem. I believe they have lifetime warranty though. On another note it's now actually alot easier getting out of the case when I need to.
Otterbox
I love Otterbox and no problems with blocking signals
Using the CaseMate Tough for the last 6 months or so. Can't fault it. Extremely robust, no cracks etc.
No issues with GPS signal (that is limited to the mirror-silver version of CaseMate's "Barely There" product)
Otter Box
Definitely Otter box. I have had my Commuter for about a month now and no issues.
i love my otterbox commuter series but it gathers dust very quickly..

I switched from my casemate tough to an otterbox commuter because otterbox cases are supposed to be some of the best. I quite enjoy both cases BUT the CM tough is holding up better. The top part of my commuter has broken loose. Also, the commuter is very slick. The tough has a texture to it. My commuter took several slides off the car seat or out of my lap. Nothing major but kind of annoying.

My otterbox broke after a few months, quite poor quality to be honest, no drops or heavy bangs, just parts of the plastic section developed cracks. Using a casemate now.

Case-mate Tough rules!
I just got my case mate tough case and it's working great for me. It feels solid and looks nice on the phone.
I have all three cases, and mostly use the Defender since it has a belt holster, and it offers the most protection. I also like the material of the Defender case as well.
I prefer the Tough Case over the Commuter because of the grip it has, the Commuter is too slick IMO.
I've had the CaseMate Tough for about 6 months.
I can't fault it. It looks the same as it did on day 1. No damage at all to corners etc.
I must say I don't take the phone out a lot, but when I do, it comes out and goes back in perfectly. The silicone inner skin has not stretched at all since I got it either.
So it has passed the test of time
I use an Otter Box Defender and you could drive a tank over it, my phone is 11 months old and looks perfect out of the box.
Otterbox kicks a**...end of story.
Otterbox rules.

Bought a Otterbox -> send back
Bought a case mate -> send back
now im using a bugatti leather case
Been using Otterbox defender for 3 months now, no problem dropped it a few times sometimes it just flew out of my hand as I was turning around the phone with my finger. BUT NO WORRIESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS LOL friends ask why did I buy this case which is so bulky. I just threw it up the sky and watch as it hit the cemented floor while my friends in shocked. NOTHING HAPPEN LOL didn't need to talk so much as the demonstration always works
Since I always rush around due to my job, all my previous phone dropped (well no cracked screen but case only most of them) w805i, k700i, x1, and.. er.. i remember having a bulky nokia phone... I can't seem to remember the name thought... looks like one of those mini laptop type. Anyway all of it experience drop while being used by me. But the conclusion is, I am really happy with this case as it serve its purpose
Im using the thin aluminium one from OBO store. For the price it is pretty good.

hi,
can any of you guys please give me advice which case should i buy the case-mate pop or otterbox commuter.... the otterbox commuter seems nice but case-mate looks nicer more but at the same time it makes the DHD much bigger right? so if any of you guyz owns both that could give me the pros and cons of both of the cases thanks
Have a read of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819651
I went for a Casemate Barely There when I first got the DHD. But, I didnt think it gave quite enough protection.
I have just ordered a Casemate Pop from Amazon, being delivered tomorrow.
As far as I could tell, the Pop gave less bulk than the Commuter - but thats only looking at the reviews.
I have the case mate pop and case mate tough. If you want a good grip get the case mate tough, I still prefer the case mate tough which is a dual case (silicon and hard) over the pop.
I have the Otterbox Commuter and its not really bulky at all, in fact less than the silicone case I had. Offers very good protection and the volume and power buttons are very easy to use.
The USB and headphones socket has a nice cover, which stops fluff and other pocket stuff getting in the holes
Well worth the 17.99 from play.com, just wish I bought it first, as I've spent money on other cases!

Some people say that otterbox feels like it will fall off the device. And also is the screen well protected, raised from the table if resting on the screen. What is the material like, is it slippery and is it easy to scrach. Are there any problems that you noticed, and do you think that otterbox commuter case is worth its money ?
Thanks
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
The case will not fall off! It is raised at the edges so will offer protection if you lay it face down. The plastic feels fine, not dropped it yet though. Worth the money? Definitely cheaper than replacing the phone, although I'm sure it cost a lot less than 17.99 to make!
I would definitely buy another commuter case for my next phone

I got the otterbox case as soon as it came out and the plastic hard case has broken near the bottom above the charger/headphone flap. Anyone else had this problem? keen to buy try case-mate this time around. Otterbox's whole ordering system was such a pain
I have the commuter case and I quite like it. I feel much better about carrying my beloved phone around with it on. I don't think it makes the phone bulky. Actually I think it improves the way the phone feels in your hand ALOT. You really notice it when you write in landscape mode. It fits much better into your hands and it makes a better writing experience.
The outer plastic layer feels very tough, and I think it will be hard to make a visible scratch on. The silicone layer inside wraps around the phone nicely and does the job with protecting the screen when you put it screen down/drop it screen down... BUT the silicone wrapping feels a bit thin, and the one at the bottom of the phone is a pain in the ass. It will definitly fall off in the end. It's very loose and my finger keeps lifting it up when I swipe my finger into it...
SO I baught a Case-Mate tough case. I havent received it yet so I can't say much about it, but it looks badass.
I have CM Pop - he like scratches...
is there anyone that has both the otterbox commuter and the case-mate pop so he could tell me which one makes the device bigger. and also i wanted to ask if otterbox commuter is the same thing as case-mate tough -same size.. tnx
I saw comparison Pics of the commuter and the Pop and the Pop Case makes the DHD a lot bigger! It looks nice but I don´t want a bulky smartphone so yesterday I ordered the Otterbox Commuter.( and the Defender..which actually makes the phone bulky but I want to see how the screenprotector works )

my recommendation is case-mate barely there .. it has no bulk , but is low on protection.. you get screen protector with it ..
my friend's phone drop with case-mate barely there , it landed on concrete and not a scratch.
I love the otterbox commuter! Makes the device feel better when holding it. There's no way in hell that this case will fall off if you drop the phone
the pop case is better imo, snug fit and a nice color scheme!
Dont buy cheep china cases they colored your phone
I have an Otterbox Defender, that turns the phone into a real monster of mobile communication. It's very big and heavy, so it's not suitable for all people. But if you use your Phone for outdoor activities, there's no better case.

I also can recommend the Case Mate barely there. The screen protector is very good.
Barely there is a very nice one. I've used it for quite a while, but now i prefer my htc kickstand case with leather finish. Looks great, slightly thicker and heavier than barely there.
O and why stick a piece of plastic on a screen that doesnt need protection in the first place

Otterbox. They have great customer service too
I'm using body glove on both my desire z and on sensation.
It's amazing on desire but sucks on sensation...
Never used an otterbox, but never heard any complain either.
I got the body glove because it was way cheaper...
I've had both, and the Otterbox gets my vote. The Body Glove looked nice, but it did not last long at all. I guess you get what you pay for. I still have my Otterbox and it's going strong after 5 months of use. The only downsides are that Otterbox tends to add a lot of bulk to an already not-so-slim phone. The walls of this thing are THICK, so at least the bulk has a purpose in protecting the heck outta your G2. Another downside is the back part of the Otterbox is slick, so if you're not careful, your phone may slip out of your hand like a brick until you get used to it. Plus I like the raised power button and volume rocker, along with protectors over the 3.5mm jack and charging/USB port. Otterbox all the way.
If between the two, otter box.
If between all, g1 slip sock case

I was disappointed when my Otterbox broke after only about 3 months, but all I did was send them an E-mail saying what happened and they sent me a new one with no cost to me.
can you post links for the cases?
I ended up getting the otterbox and i'm lovin' it.

Fishbone case on amazon ftw!
It's all personal preference, but I had the otterbox and didn't like it. The outside is all plastic, makes it slide more and less comfortable to hold. After trying a couple I finally decided I liked the tmobile gel case the best. It's like the otterbox turned inside out, there's a hard rubber on the outside with a rigid plastic frame inside. It actually makes the volume and power buttons easier to use, and covers better than the body glove case you're thinking of. Plus it's cheaper than the otterbox.

OTTERBOX! I love mine.
I got this one from Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0045EI356/ref=oh_o00_s00_i00_details
It's like a rubberized plastic so it has a rugged feel to it and it grips really well. Only complaint is that you don't have as much space around the trackpad so you can't use it as easily. Not bad for 3 bucks though.
Bought an otterbox awhile ago. The quality is quite nice, but you'll have to be careful if you're removing it from your phone, already got quite big cracks v.v
I've got the Otterbox and saved my DZ twice now when I dropped it
otterbox really looks nice
I'm upgrading to an Inspire soon and I was wondering if I should get a silicone case or a plastic case. I didn't have a case on my Aria (which I'm using right now) and the screen is shattered so I decided to buy a case. So which case is better? Which can protect the phone better and which one would you prefer (as Inspire users) looks better? Thanks

It does add some bulk. That's why I like the commuter. It doesn't have as much protection, but it also doesn't have too much bulk. It kind of meets in the middle.

i highly recommend anything made by otterbox, everything they have gives great protection to your phone, believe me, ive dropped my phone too many times and so far nothing bad or drastic has occured.
Been using the Platinum series from best buy since the phone was released. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same as the surface combo by Seidio. Dropped it a couple of times, no damage. Screen is covered by the holster.
I personally use the qmadix case that i got from my work, and its been great coupled with my invisi-shield screen protector.
Case mate pop I have the commuter, but prefer the case mate pop
Seidio CONVERT Combo for HTC Inspire 4G
Its makes the phone huge but i drive alot and I made a clip holder in truck to use navi and music. It has 3 Layers plus the clip. I payed $50 and now it like $35 at bestbuy.
I need a really thin case. What do you guys recommend?
Posted with my model confused HTC Inspire via XDA premium.
Otterbox Defender all the way is my choice. Does make phone a little bulky but as clumsy as I am I dropped it already 3 times and as pricey as this phone is I dont care about outside looks I care about protection for it.
Otterbox all the way. I have the commuter and my first one got a crack From a nasty drop I sent one email to them and they responded immediately and within a day they had gotten me a replacement case shipped out. They have some of the best customer care I've ever seen, not to mention the case most definitely has saved my phone on a number of occasions.
Sent through the power of Cthulhu!
Otterbox commuter case is good, not too big either. The defender has more protection but it is big and bulky.
A TPU case is what I use.
The platinum case from bestbuy is only 29.99 and it does not hinder the GPS signal strength. Cases that cover the area between the flash and speaker weaken GPS signal cause the GPS radio is placed there.

I am using Moshi cover case for Inspire 4 g which is very useful. It was made for HD7 but it fits with inspire.
I use an Otterbox Defender and it saved my phone once after a drop. They are a bit more money, however you can get a decent price on Amazon. Had a speck when I first bought the phone. It broke 3 weeks later just putting it in and out of my pocket.

I'm using the Seidio Surface case for mine and I do like it. I've had a few drops onto hardwood floor and concrete slab in the garage and it has protected it great so far. However, with the price of the otterbox down from what I remember seeing it back when I first got my phone it might be well worth it to get that one, as it's not much more than the Seidio now.
Otter box defender...hands down. My Co worker's husband was so impressed with mine, he had me order him one for his Vivid.
Bought it from newegg hellafied cheaper than the otterbox site.
Sent using rabid badgers and two tin cans.
Wow these new otterbox cases are way better then the old ones. The plastic isnt flimsy anymore and it fits it perfectly on the One S. I've spoken on it and used speaker phone and it doesn't make it harder to hear or be heard. A deff good buy and on amazon or ebay its only $35
I was wondering if anyone has seen any accessories that can fit to the otterbox defender case? Before I had my HTC HD2 and I had a car mount that fits the otterbox case perfectly.
I'm getting mine tomorrow. Does it come with a screen protector? Cause I like my InvisibleShield HD screen protector and want to keep using it.

I prefer my Skinomi TechSkin because it is the same thing but cheaper. I've used the Zagg products before, but wasn't impressed enough to get a replacement when my keys stretched it in my pocket and ruined it. I do love my TechSkin, however.
Got my defender today..Not that impressed with the built in screen protector. It seems to bubble and give you a tactical feel to it.
otterbox defender vs commuter
I'm thinking about buying this case but im not to sure.
For you guys that already have it i've got some questions.
This is for the defender:
How much weight does it add?
Since it has a screen protector I don't need to keep my old one on do i?
Does it have a non belt clip piece? (flat back)
For the commuter:
Sounds like this one doesn't fit correctly any feed back?
^^ No, OB Commuter Case fits well. Had one on my One S for a few weeks and been happy with it.

I like my Otterbox defender very much. Makes the phone a bit bulky but protection should be good. The only thing I recommend is to throw away the built in screen protector as it makes the readability of the screen really bad. I replaced it with a normal clear screen protector and now I am satisfied.

I've got both now too, I ordered the Defender and they sent a Commuter by mistake, said keep it and we'll refund since we don't have the right one. Just got the Defender from another seller.
Build quality on both is really excellent, it took me a couple of minutes to work out how to get the Defender apart to get the phone in, it's that well put together.
The screen protectors on both leave a lot to be desired though, the one on the Commuter is good but leaves the top of the glass bare, the one built in to the Defender is just awful, it works fine but makes the screen very grainy.
My phones are subject to lots of bumps and knocks at work and good all round protection, especially for the screen when not in use, is important. The Defender with the addition of a decent screen protector fits the bill perfectly.
I got Commuter for mine, quite happy with it, but have to agree with the screen protector tho just doesn't cover all the screen so I left it off but in the 3 months I've had this case I've put it through a beating with no damage to my phone

otterbox defender vs commuter
i would go with the defender because what i see on the website it has a belt clip which the commuter doesn't have
Bit annoyed today, the retaining clip on my Otterbox holster snapped off while I was taking the phone out of it.
I'll get a chance to see how good Otterbox after sales service is.
I have a pink/grey commuter case from otterbox. I have loved otterbox since my first case years ago. I may be off here but it seems to me they're getting a little shotty quality wise. My rubber seems to turn brown and attract every piece of dirt within a mile of it and now, I have just found, the pink has bled into the white on my phone and stained it. Is this the phone or the case being substandard here? I do love otterbox but I'm thinking its time to move on. What case can I look to for the same protection and reliability? What's the best/worst phone case in your opinion?

I'm a big fan of the Spigen Slim Armor and Spigen Neo Hybrid cases for this phone. High quality, fits like a GLOVE, not bulky at all, look great, and don't have the big lips like the otterbox that make dragging down the notification panel a hassle. Check out their site but buy from amazon, I think you can get the slim armor on amazon for less than 15 bucks at the moment.
I use an otterbox commuter for my s4 and it doesnt interfere with notifications panel at all.(that happens in the s2 commuter case)
Dunno about other colors but my black is holding up pretty good to daily abuse.

Just got a gift from a friend, Otterbox Commuter for S4, everything looks fine but the cutout for charging below the case seems not so accurate.
After the disaster which is the S3 Otterbox Defender, I have refused to recommend any Otterbox product to anyone. (the silicon would just keep stretching out of shape)
My GF's S3 Commuter fared slightly better with none of the silicone issues but the plastic shell cracked the first time she dropped the phone...
Fast forward to today... we're both using S4s and couldn't be happier with our Ballistic SG Maxxes. Truly a marvelous case which takes impacts and drops like a champ! The design of the S4 version is a little skimpy up top though but so far so [email protected]
I work in construction so I have a Defender on my s4. Holding up great so far. Thinking about picking up another smaller case for weekends.

Spigen Slim Armor
I have been using the Otterbox Commuter cases over the last year and have been really happy with them. However I recently got the Blue Spigen Slim Armor and it is really impressive how it fits, quality of construction, buttons are easy to push, fits perfect and looks are better than anything I have seen thus far. Plus it matches my Grabber Blue Mustang GT. hahaha Really impressed with it.:good: So far it is the best case I have had on any phone in the last 10 years.
I really like my green commuter. It fits well and looks pretty cool. The construction of the case seems very tight; on some past otterboxes, it's seemed a bit "stretchy" and not as formfitting right out of the box, but this one is very nicely done. My only gripe was the charger cutout was too small, but a kitchen knife and some diligence solved that problem rather quickly.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda app-developers app
I had a similar problem with the charging port on my marine/dark blue commuter case. I didn't want to carve up the case, so I just ground the plug down a little with my dremel tool. I figured if I screwed it up I could always get another OEM charger. So far it works fine. I ground down to metal, but a quick check with Galaxy Charging Current shows that my charge values are unaffected. Is this a common problem with the Otterbox Commuter?
My first thought was that I got a fake one, but the box had the hologram sticker on top, website on back, sku sticker on bottom. The silicone lining seems firm and tight with no sagging. Most of the fake vs real videos on youtube stressed the cheap and floppy silicone lining in the fake Otterboxes. Mine seems fairly stiff and fits well.
I was originally eyeing off the commuter cases but after reading the whole screen cracking thread, I went with the defender. This is possibly the best case I've ever had on a smartphone. The plastic inside shell is fairly sturdy which I love because I carry my phone in my pocket all the time and I was worried about having torsion dmg.
P.S: I'm also looking at getting the neon blue spigen slim armor but I'm still not convinced on the sturdiness yet. I so do not want to have to go through samsung warranty for anything. ~_~
