I'm rooted with undead's ROM, modaco's 4.0.0.9, and I've deleted the media room app which is the only way to get into music and fm radio outside of a widget or home screen shortcut. If I delete the htcsetup apk file and do a factory reset so-to-speak I get the music and fm radio shortcuts back in my app drawer but the weather app will NEVER show my location, other apps do though, but I don't want to keep it like this since I would imagine other built in things probably aren't working from not going through the initial htcsetup after a factory reset.
With all that being said, how do I simply get the music and fm radio icons to show up in my app drawer? I've gone through the htcsetup wizard as im supposed to which ends up removing or calling something to remove these 2 apps.
For some reason the icons don't show up in the app drawer when you use the stock launcher.
I use GO launcher EX, the MT4GS has enough power to really get some use out of it and turn on all the fun animations and such.
As soon as I switch launchers, the icons are in my drawer.
I think, if I remember right, that other launchers show the icons too, like ADW and such, but the only one I use anymore is GO so I am not sure.
This was something that aggravated me, I don't like or use widgets and media room was gone from my phone a long, long time ago.
I like the HTC stock music app, I think it's really well done.
Not exactly all the info you were looking for, but it's a step on the path.
I haven't really got a handle on the sense skin yet. So i can't answer that. I'm still learning.

Xshortcuts to create any icon(even hidden apps) on the desk. You can uninstall media room and access music with this free app fyi.
Well any app can be made a shortcut on the homescreen/desktop.
What I noticed though which is quite interesting is that if you delete the htcsetup.apk or something like that from the system/app folder and then format data and cache, which is essentially a factory reset, the fm radio and music shortcuts show back up in the drawer. Probably what's happening is that this initial setup wizard hides these 2 apps to encourage the use of the media room app. My only concern is how would I make sure things such as weather will work if I don't go through the initial setup wizard?

So I just signed up here after getting a G2X. I have been into Android for about a year. I started out with the Cliq XT which I actually loved, then got the Defy which I hate to see go, and now am on the G2X [the first superphone to really impress me since it can actually do something my Defy couldn't]
I am very happy with my G2X. I don't get the fuss over screen bleeding as phone displays have come such a long way from my first cell phone, the Panasonic GD55. I also have not had ONE reboot. My battery life is between 4 to 6 hours and I'm pretty much browsing the web ALL day.
but lately, I've wondered, am I wrong? dumb? blind?
I only use three home screens. The main one has just 4 small icons: camera, messaging, browser, and navigation. Then to the right home screen just the weather widget, and to the left screen, the android power bar widget. and after that, nothing else, nothing.
Is there something I'm missing? or am I right in not loading up the screens and just hitting the menus if I need something? I realize, for example, the google search widget would work for me, but I don't see the point of having it on the screen when I can just press browser and it opens to a blank google window I don't facebook much, but I can just open the app drawer, click the facebook button, and it's all right there.
So am I just crazy? or is my approach more common and popular than I think?
On another note, I'm missing some things from my defy. I was able to install the connected music player apk to use instead of the horrible stock one, but I'm missing my airplane mode button and timer built into my clock/alarm app.
but still...I feel weird..they added homescreens to make it 7..so people obviously love them and need them..and yet if I really wanted to I could put EVERYTHING I use on one.
Its your phone best used how you see fit. I have on extra page filled with a few apps I use since I've gotten into rooting my phone and playing around with things the devs help and teach me on. But I do the same I go to the app menu if I wanna use something too.

You're not an idiot lol I myself have a pretty much bare set up haven't really customized anything due to the fact that I've been bouncing from rom to rom. Plus the wonderful thing about android is that you can pretty much do what you please. If you're only using 3 pages I'd suggest you use Launcherpro or ADW (or whichever launcher you prefer) and have only 3 pages up so you're not left with all these blank pages. I used to just use 1 page back on my MT4g Bottom line is you're not an idiot
I know exactly what you are saying. I've got launcher pro and have the dock all customized with 15 icons in 3 docks. Some camera apps and different markets and the usual messaging and stuff.
Now I'm like...why do I need anything in my home screens? I've got my vacation days left widget on the home screen and the launcher pro contacts widget on another. That's it.
But then I downloaded three icon packs and see myself customizing the screens more. There sure are a lot of cool choices. If I do that the dock choices become redundant.
I just don't use most of the apps in the drawer enough to put them on a home screen. Only a select few.
Having a blast playing around though.
Instead of having all my apps on one page, I'm thinking of giving the pages themes, like games, tools, camera, messaging etc.
I also like to keep one home screen blank so the wallpaper, living or not, is highlighted.
i also have 3 screens
I also have just 3 screens.
I use LauncherPro + QuickDesk + SwipePad
Screen #1 just has 9 icons for each of my fave Google apps: Browser, Calendar, Market, Latitude, Maps, Navigation, Talk, Voice and YouTube.
Screen #2 has minimum of 2 icons: Shortcut > Direct Message > My Wife
The second icon is either my ToDoList for the day or a ShoppingList.
I use ColorNote.
Screen #3 is for my widgets.
Battery Monitor Widget, Catch Notes Widget, Pure Calendar Widget.
----- ----- ----- ----- -----
I really love the scrolling dockbar in LauncherPro. I use just two dockbars for a combined quick access to a possible 10 apps + 10 gestures.
I also use SwipePad for quick access to 12 more apps, and also QuickDesk for additional quick access to s'more apps & shortcuts
Using the Hidden Apps feature of LauncherPro, I hide most of my apps in the app drawer.
I access everything else from the capacitive touch Search button.
I run simple as well. However adw ex utilizes both cores for instant function.
Buy adw ex. Open settings/Profiles and select FAST SETTING.
it will be like nothing you've had before.
I call it Instant.
I don't even use any animations at this point.
Its more impressive not to even need any then to watch one.
It will impress you.

Has anyone else run into issues with Springpad on their Infuse? I cannot get my notes to go to my homescreen and the widgets wont show up in the widget menu. I reinstalled it yesterday and got the widgets to reappear in the widget menu, but when I shut my phone off last night and turned it back on this morning, the widget transformed into a problem, and the Springpad widgets no longer show up in the widget menu. Anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? Or just have a better replacement?
I use Springpad but do not use the widgets. So I tested it by adding the list view widget and the small one, rebooted and the widgets remain. I am using a custom ROM (Infused) so not sure if that has anything to do with it. If you are looking for a replacement, try Evernote.
There is an easy fix for that. I had the same problem with pandora widget, it would always disapper from widget list after the reboot. Go into settings, applications, manage applications then move the app to phone and reboot. It will never disappear after that.

I am using a custom ROM as well (Refuse 1.6). It could be something with that ROM I suppose; I haven't tried any others for long enough to get to using Springpad.

Yep, that'll do. I had not even thought they were being automatically placed there; don't remember ever setting this. Just noticed that all of my apps are being installed to sd card. I'll check around for how to change it. Thanks!
Edit: Springpad was not among those stored on the SD card, turns out. Widget is working again though. It must have been something else.
I tried searching the forums and found nothing...
Like a lot of others, i dont like most of the applications that come bundled on my phone and like to get rid of most of them. I cant seem to figure out what .apk file to remove to get rid of the "Kidzone" application. Any ideas?
If any root-level file explorer works, download Absolute System from the Market. It's about two bucks but it's worth it. You can use it to remove any bloatware from your device.

Not in this case. We do not have S-OFF.
Freezing the apps with titanium backup lasts between reboots, luckily. Won't remove them completely but they will be prevented from running or showing in the app drawer.
Only problem is I'm having trouble finding the package names of a couple bloatware apps, namely kidzone, highlight, friend stream and t-mobile mall. If anyone could find the names of those packages it would be great. I'll look up the names of the apps I did find in a little while and post them for you.

I cant figure out what process is Kidzone either, but i think the T-Mobile mall was called "AppPack" (MallLite-4.0.92.apk)

also tried removing the app pack, and it does not remove "kidzone"
Kidzone appears to basically be a locked down version of the home screen that only lets you turn on Youtube, Internet, Bejeweled, and T-Mobile TV from that screen. It requires you to setup a password for the lock screen. It appears to be built into sense. It's not really an application. Mostly a replacement lock screen. There's nothing "kid" about it honestly.

I second that request!
I made a thread in "themes and apps" about cleaning up bloat - still no luck on kidzone though.
I am fiddling around with dumping sense now, that will probably do it. I'll post back here if I can figure out how to make kidzone go away.
Meantime - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16739548#post16739548
okay - sorry to post after myself but I got rid of kidzone.
First, I restored a CWM backup I made right after root/busybox installation.
So, my phone state is fresh S-OFF/Root with SU & busybox installed.
It may be important to note that I did a factory reset to my phone just before S-OFF/Root & had a freshly formatted MicroSD card.
I then installed ADW Launcher from the Market, and hit my "home" key. Selected "Use Default" and chose ADW Launcher.
Now my phone defaults to ADW as it's launcher.
I then installed "Absolute System" from the Market, and used it to remove "HTC Sense"
Closed out Absolute System, then scrolled between all 5 ADW desktop screens, powered down the phone, then powered up again. (*NOTE fastboot = off)
Booted fine, was able to ditch sense without issue, and KIDZONE IS GONE!
As always, make sure to do a fresh system backup before messing with anything like this, but Kidzone is linked to sense, and replacing sense with another launcher will remove it.
HTC Sense was the only app removed from the phone, and I haven't checked everything to make sure it works yet, but no HTC crash report to send, and no force close issues. (yet - to be determined)
I've been itching to ditch sense since I got the phone, and this was my first quick test at it. Works good so far.
Edit to add:
Checked the "personalize" option at the top of the "settings" list. This just brings you back to the main desktop, doesn't throw an error.
I knew this one thing would be messed up somehow after ditching sense, but the fact that it doesn't make a problem and just closes the menu is fine by me.
I'll spend the rest of the day testing out my phone without sense to see how it runs. I'll post back how it went tomorrow.
Edit - 11/01/2011:
When I said "without sense" I meant without the sense launcher. I expanded on and clarified that in another thread (that app thread) but never cleared it up here.
To fully remove sense is one heck of a project, and will take much more then just switching your launcher.
This is great info - but with this last method - can you still use the stock/factory camera app? Is the camera fully functional, it might not be a big deal to some but would be cool to retain full factory camera functionality.
Wow, feels like going back in time -
Yep, stock camera app works fine.
It's tied to sense, and there is no true AOSP ROM out there yet, so pretty much no matter what you do you should keep stock camera functionality.
Actually, keeping the stock camera functionality/app is the main reason why there is no AOSP ROM yet, it's been generally decided that losing that would be...undesirable.
Kidzone is part of Rosie.apk, which is the Sense launcher. You lose it once you switch to another launcher (adw, go, etc...) and uninstall rosie.apk

I've gotten so many apps the only way to keep track of them all is to have them sorted alphabetically... except its an incredible pain to manually maintain that. Any way to get them autosorted?
Download Go launcher and in App drawer press menu, sorting, then Choose whatever u like!
Sent from my S+
or download Apex launcher, if you running 4.0.4
Will these conflict with MIUI?
I suppose I should clarify.. I don't particularly care to replace the MIUI launcher (which is what I have, and quite prefer to other 'drawer' based launchers), I just want to get my icons automagically sorted.
After installing Soundhound, does anyone have the issue where there is no icon in the app menu/drawer? Thanks.
There is something massively wrong with sense 4.0 Plenty of apps are missing icons including Tunein Radio, mirror and others...
I dont know what you guys are talksng about. I updated soundhound today and the icon is still there.
I have never ever had s problem with icons disappearing on sense 4.0

Same here, although I can access soundhound and tunein from the music app...
Never had this issue.
My Soundhound Icon is here sitting on my apps menu.
Just wondering... Do you have your apps menu to show All apps?
Mine is still there, however the girlfriends is having that issue...
*Edit1* Did some digging, there are more apps having this same issue. Mounted to the computer and found some files in .android_secure, turns out it's the missing ones. Funny thing happened while I was typing this out, HTC actually called me regarding another issue I have been dealing with and I informed them of this issue as well. He tested and saw what we see. He'll be getting back to me tomorrow on both issues. I'll update once I know more.
*Edit2* Uninstall soundhound, and reinstall from the market. This will automatically create a new icon on your home screen, but it still won't show up in the app drawer. Good temp fix. Also, using the built-in google search widget you can find your installed apps that don't show up, including Tune In Radio, which I have never seen in the app drawer.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
Same issue here. The icon for tunein radio disappeared out of the blue from the home screen and the list of all installed apps. The only way to get to it is through "settings- apps- all".
*Update*
HTC Called me back last night. They are still running tests and will be working on this all week. They plan on contacting me back by/on Friday evening. They are also testing the calender notification issues.
Wow- please keep us updated. Thanks!
