do you really need that? its not nuclear physics to keep your kernel zips in your sd storage and to boot into recovery to flash whichever one you want to use at the time.

I'm more or less looking for something to backup my stock kernel. Can't seem to find one as a flashable zip

Flash image by joeykrim or kernel manager on the market if you are really that lazy. You can also flash kernels with rom manager. There is nothing to backup a kernel as the data doesn't change. All you need is a zimage of the stock kernel.

you can flash a stock rom for the kernel, or just pull out it out of the stock rom. then flash with fastboot/adb/terminal emulator.

How to backup kernel

Other than doing a complete Nandroid backup, is there anyway to backup just my current kernel prior to flashing a new kernel? SGS KERNEL FLASHER doesn't work on the Skyrocket, and i'd like to backup my stock kernel in case I need to reflash it later.

We have the stock kernel posted up in the dev section so you can always download it

The one I saw was the tar flashable via odin... was hoping i could keep it on the phone and reflash as a CWM zip or how SGS KERNEL FLASHER restores... does that exist or even possible?

In your signature it says that your phone is an Xperia X8 so i recommend you use the right forum to ask questions as they are both very different phones.
Anyway, Odin is a program on windows that allows you to flash a ROM on Samsung mobiles (only).
Certain kernels can be flashed through CWM i think. Check on the G3Mod Kernel thread for more information.
CWM can be installed without a PC i think but you need a few files that you have to message 'Mumbozver' for since he is the person who made CWM work on the Samsung Galaxy 3. Then you will be able to flash a kernel using the update.zip method and if you flash a G3Mod kernel, then you will be able to use Multiboot to boot up a custom ROM.
All the information will be on the G3mod thread, first page so go there to start off and message mumbozver for the CWM files.

Yes, message a user named 'Mumbozver' for the files and also the instructions on how to install it.

Try to use a pc for about 10min. Just flash via odin one packagr. Lots of samsung phones use odin to flash roms and kernels. Kernels csn be flashed thru cwm in the .zip format

I don t think there is any other way. You need a PC so that you can flash G3Mod kernel. It has CWM recovery built in. Or you need to flash some ROM which has built in recovery.

Wouldn't recommend ICS as it is only the first test build and not much is working right now.

[Q] Gingerbread Recovery

I have Gingerbread on mine. Is there a custom recovery and roms for this yet or do i have to wait? If there is i cannot find them and that is why i am asking.
Did you not look in the dev section? They have been there for a couple months.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
where have you been looking. All are in the dev section. Flash the kernel by Bhundven (Beta 2c) not Beta 3, then flash AOSP Style, then flash the Beta 2c kernel again, this time you can do it from CWM.
You will be on the latest version of GB (and Greatest) I created the rom, LOL!
all of the recoveries i have found are from froyo or do not work on my phone because of not being signed properly?
Do you have a sgs4g? If so flash a modded kernel through Odin and you will have cwm recovery.

i tried. The instructions on the page do not match with any of the options within Heimdall.
Just use Odin to flash a Dr honk kernel then in cwm flash the kernel then whatever rom you want

[Q] innovation HD 7.0 question!!!

this rom requires that i need to convert file system to ext4 for best performance....so how to do that ???....and may it lose all my data ????....sorry for my bad english...
Download sgs kernel flasher from the market, use it to flash the community kernel v8. That will give you ext4 partitions. Then use CWM to install the ROM. your contents on both sd cards will be safe but emails and wireless passwords will be deleted, and all your apps.

You don't have to do anything. The kernel already made the changes for you.

You need to flash the kernel modules, you don't mess with the kernel at all. It'll brick the phone.
