How to backup kernel - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Other than doing a complete Nandroid backup, is there anyway to backup just my current kernel prior to flashing a new kernel? SGS KERNEL FLASHER doesn't work on the Skyrocket, and i'd like to backup my stock kernel in case I need to reflash it later.

[MODEM][Odin + CWM] KJ2 Modem [2011-10-11]

I am not responsible if you brick your phone.
This is ONLY the modem, not a full ROM.
I take no credit for this, I only extracted the modem.bin from the KJ2 ROM leak and made it into an Odin and CWM package.
Here is the new KJ2 modem in Odin and CWM flashable form. Simply flash with Odin (in the PDA slot), or use the CWM package. Enjoy!

Nw only if we can get a CWM flashable for KI3. I'm at work a lot and can't install Odin here so the CWM flashables are great...... THANKS!!!

Thank you for making a CWM flashable.

Odin drhonks kj1 kernel to root it then you can flash the cwm kj6 Rom

Your answer was in your post...get Dr. Honk's KJ1 kernel and flash it over with ODIN.
Also, this question seems a better fit for the Q&A forum than the dev forum.
I thought I knew about flashing and stuff till i had to flash a kernel... I don't know how! LOL I tried but ended bricking my phone.
Should I put the kernel zipped .tar file in pda or extract the zimage and put it were in odin? I have looked through forums but couldn't find a kernel flashing guide. Thanks!
And oh yes, this thread should go on Q&A. Consider yourself trolled.
Sseeaarrcchhhhhh.
Seriously. Search.
Also.. this should be in Q & A since it nothing to so with development and everything to do with failing to search and making people answer the same stupid question for the 99999 time.
Grr.

In your signature it says that your phone is an Xperia X8 so i recommend you use the right forum to ask questions as they are both very different phones.
Anyway, Odin is a program on windows that allows you to flash a ROM on Samsung mobiles (only).
Certain kernels can be flashed through CWM i think. Check on the G3Mod Kernel thread for more information.
CWM can be installed without a PC i think but you need a few files that you have to message 'Mumbozver' for since he is the person who made CWM work on the Samsung Galaxy 3. Then you will be able to flash a kernel using the update.zip method and if you flash a G3Mod kernel, then you will be able to use Multiboot to boot up a custom ROM.
All the information will be on the G3mod thread, first page so go there to start off and message mumbozver for the CWM files.

Try to use a pc for about 10min. Just flash via odin one packagr. Lots of samsung phones use odin to flash roms and kernels. Kernels csn be flashed thru cwm in the .zip format

I don t think there is any other way. You need a PC so that you can flash G3Mod kernel. It has CWM recovery built in. Or you need to flash some ROM which has built in recovery.

[Q] Gingerbread Recovery

I have Gingerbread on mine. Is there a custom recovery and roms for this yet or do i have to wait? If there is i cannot find them and that is why i am asking.
Did you not look in the dev section? They have been there for a couple months.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
where have you been looking. All are in the dev section. Flash the kernel by Bhundven (Beta 2c) not Beta 3, then flash AOSP Style, then flash the Beta 2c kernel again, this time you can do it from CWM.
You will be on the latest version of GB (and Greatest) I created the rom, LOL!
all of the recoveries i have found are from froyo or do not work on my phone because of not being signed properly?
Do you have a sgs4g? If so flash a modded kernel through Odin and you will have cwm recovery.

i tried. The instructions on the page do not match with any of the options within Heimdall.
Just use Odin to flash a Dr honk kernel then in cwm flash the kernel then whatever rom you want

[Q] CWM

Hi!
This weekend, I reverted back to stock Rogers rom. I have the stock kernel that came with it as well. Although stock, I am still rooted but without CWM and Voodoo (stock kernel).
I was just wondering if I use SGS Kernel flasher from the market, will I be able to flash a new kernel (Infused) so I can have CWM and Voodoo? Or will I brick my phone?
Phone is running 2.3.3 UXKG3 stock from Rogers.
Thanks!

Also, would I need to replace 3e with the modded one or will it be part of the Kernel flashing?

In order for sgs kernel flasher to work, you first need to root the phone.
instead of rooting, you can flash the GB infusion kernel..gtg, bedwa or entropy-all based on Rogers, to get cwm. You need to do this on download mode via Odin or heimdall.
You can use the heimdall in my second post on the uclb3 thread
I am rooted already. I just need CWM.
PS I tried using SGS Kernel flasher to flash the kernel listed on the "How to root Rogers Infuse" by GTG, but it said "Invalid zimage file" so I wasn't able to flash it.

Also, will Entropy's Daily Driver kernel also provide me with a CWM if I flash it via SGS Kernel flasher?
