Hello.
I use on my Galaxy S2 Copilot version 8.2 . Everything seems to work fine, except of the text input (for streets, cities etc).
When using Samsung Keypad it is impossible to add the correct text.
With XT9 or without it, the characters i press are being added twice in the input field.
So when i try to start a city like "London" , getting the "L" is impossible. Pressing three times on the keypad (in portrait style), i see on the screen "Jkl" . Same goes with XT9.
While on landscape things works better though. I have problems with the predictive text there, but at least i can type each character at a time.
Is there any kind of setting that i am missing ?

I recently flashed my SPV E650 with a HTC rom (HTC_Vox_ARA_1.27.415.4_4.1.13.47_02.98.90.exe) and almost everything's peachier than it previously was with the ancient Orange ROM which was full of awful bugs. I have one minor problem however, I cannot input text! When I try to input text (browser, text message, contact name) via both the numeric keypad or the qwerty keyboard I just this oblong character, like a square O basically. I've seen this character before but only in code ie when you open a non text file in a text editor, a JPEG for example. I can get numbers just fine, both from the numeric pad from the keyboard, and I can get characters such as !,.& etc (I need to hold the function key to get these) from the qwerty, but alas no letters at all.
Can anyone help me resolve this issue?
While writing SMS, push and hold "*" button, and choose "ABC" mode or change language.
Aha! You are a star, thank you intensely. The input was in Arabic, the old regional settings trick at work has back fired on me, stupid boy! Thanks again matrix
I have the problem that one of the three Danish letters is placed at the beginning of the word it is in. The other two Danish characters work fine. Maybe these Danish characters don't display right everywhere, so all through this text let's pretend it is the 'o' that doesn't work.
A sentence like 'Looking forward to solving the problem.'
becomes: 'ooLking ofrward ot oslving the oprblem.'
Not exactly expedient for meaningful communication, right!
The flow of it, letter by letter, while writing is this:
In Danish "blot" means "blue".
When tapping "bl" the two letters are displayed in the black bar and in the application.
When tapping the "o" the black bar displays "bl" and the application "o".
When tapping the "t" the black bar displays "blt" and the application "oblt". "blt" is hightlighted/selected in the application, the "o" is not.
I tried with English and Danish regional settings: Doesn't make a difference.
I would like to try it without that black bar - but I can't turn it off. I turned off all "writting help" in Settings/Input/Keyboard/Word Completion but it didn't make it go away. I really don't know what the black bar is for, cause it does not complete or suggest any words (not in Danish and not in English). Tapping the "x" on the bar only brings out a "Add My Word" label. Since I don't know what to call this black bar, please see attachment. If anybody can tell me what it is called or what it is for, I'd be glad - hard to surf for issues relating to it when I don't know what it is called :-(
Clearly, there's a bug somewhere. But I can't tell if it is in Microsoft software or in HTC software.
Facts are:
O/S: English Windows Mobile 6 Professional CE OS 5.2.1623 (build 18129.0.4.5)
ROM: 1.25.405.1 WWE (date 12/11/07)
Radio version: 1.58-21-23
Protocol version: 25.65.30.04H
What I'm trying to figure out is who has the bug?
I reported to Microsoft, who said it was a localization thing. On the HTC homepage it was not possible to select HTC Cruise P3650 in the list, but I reported to HTC anyhow, making clear in the description that it is a Cruise and so far they have only responded by asking customer info of which they had the major part from the entry on the homepage already, seems like they're just stalling me.
I want to pursue the problem to have it solved but I have to pursue it the right place.
Can anybody make out who has the bug?
If it's the keyboard, I guess it's Microsoft, right?
If it's the black bar, is it HTC?
Late breaking news
Ok, so I'm talking to myself ... but who knows - if someone else experience something like or is equally confused about input settings, perhaps this might help them, too.
I have tried to find out more about the "black bar" and come to realize these "late breaking news":
Options/Settings relating to the Keyboard (Keyboard/Word Completion tab) has no effect on anything.
The black bar is related to the Touch Keyboard and appears even if the Touch keyboard is not the selected input method and even if word completion (and all other "typing assistance" functions) is turned off for the Touch Keyboard.
Turning on Word Completion in Options/XT9 Settings for the Touch Keyboard also affects typing with the Keyboard.
Thus, turning on Word Completion for the Touch Keyboard and using the Keyboard as input method, word completion actually works and it is possible to add words - even words containing the two (out of three) Danish characters that work.
So, word completion as such works (allthough it seems that the settings and effects of these settings are kind of mixed up and criss-crossing between the various input methods) but the one Danish character still does not work - it is still placed at the beginning of the word it is in, as described in the first post.
Keyboard bug narrowed down
Entering Options for input sets Touch Keyboard back to XT9 - no matter whether it is the active input method or not and no matter whether any changes is made in the Options tabs.
Settings on the Options/Word Completion tab have no effects - no matter whether HTC Keyboard is set to XT9 or abc.
Setting the Touch Keyboard to abc disables the black word completion bar for both the Touch Keyboard and the Keyboard - also if Word Completion is selected on the Options/Word Completion tab.
With Touch Keyboard set to abc, and thus no word completion, the third Danish letter works without problems on the Keyboard.
With Touch Keyboard set to XT9 typing the third Danish letter does not work on the Keyboard.
Typing with the Keyboard while the Touch Keyboard is set to abc (third letter working) adds words with the third letter to the dictionary. Turning the XT9 on the Touch Keyboard back on and using the Keyboard, 'Word Completion' and 'Next Word Prediction' works also for words containing the third Danish letter saved in the dictionary while Touch Keyboard was set to abc.
In other words, it is not the letter as such, but the typing of the letter with XT9 activated, that is the problem.
However, I would like to stress that it is completely impossible to work-around the bug by entering all words in all occurrences with the third Danish letter in the dictionary - there are too many and it would make cleaning up the dictionary impossible.
I think I have now narrowed down the error as much as I possibly could, hoping it will be easy for HTC to correct it so that the letter works with word completion - not least since two out three Danish letters are already working well.
Facts on the Touch Keyboard: Touch Keyboard for Pocket PC Version 1.0 (Build 29567)
I have mailed the findings to HTC, hoping for a speedy answer and patch.
Am I the only one, who thinks the functionality-mix between the keyboard is confusing?
Is it possible to disable that black bar?
I have found that the keyboard is hard to trouble shoot. That is all I can say.. lol.
Black bar
Yes, it is possible to disable the black bar: Select the Touch Keyboard and tap the XT9 button so it becomes 'abc'.
Now the black bar is gone - also for the standard keyboard.
The XT9/Touch Keyboard has been programmed so it interfers with other keyboards, for instance it is not possible to select 'word completion' for the standard keyboard without having XT9 turned on on the Touch Keyboard.
I'd say HTC made quite a mess of it.
Just curious: have you tried TouchPal keyboard? I had a previous touch device that only had the simple keyboard, so I started using that and I like it so much that I haven't bothered to even try the new HTC keyboards.
I'm not sure if it would solve your problem, but it may be worth a try.
(you'd have to pay for the dutch version, but it sounds like it would be money well spent )

No, I haven't tried TouchPal keyboard.
I also had a previous device which came with just the ordinary keyboard (which worked fine, by the way). I installed HTC Touch Phone Pad International on it to also have a more sms-friendly keyboard. This also worked fine. The functionality of the two keyboards were seperate back then.
But my current phone came pre-installed with HTC Touch Keyboard - it does not even appear in Options/Remove Programs (probably also for the best, cause I have this nagging feeling it would spoil more than "itself" if it were uninstalled since it is so mixed up with the functionality of other keyboards).
So, with a total of five preinstalled keyboards, I don't feel like getting any more ;-) and while HTC is looking into the problem I think I'll leave the phone as is until they find a solution at least.
But thanks for the tip!
Found this cause I was having same problem...passing it along
To fix the Word Completion function on my Sprint HTC Touch Pro. It turns out the problem has to do with the installation of the new Full QWERTY keyboard that came with the ROM upgrade. My Word Completion was not working in Block Recognizer, the original Keyboard or the Letter Recognizer UNTIL I did this simple fix.. Here is how to do it:
* After confirming that you have the box checked for "Suggest words when entering text" in the Word Completion tab found in Settings>Input.
* Open up a new email or text message.
* Go to the bottom of the screen and change your letter input method to Full QWERTY (using the down arrow next to the "pencil", "keyboard" , etc. icon).
* In the bottom left hand corner of this Full QWERTY keyboard, just to the right of CAPS/shift button, is a button to toggle between T9 and ABC.
* Click the button and make sure that T9 appears below ABC. Apparently the opposite appears as a default setting.
* Switch back to Block Recognizer, Keyboard or Letter Recognizer and Word Completion should be active for you!
when using the keyboard this is not working . . .
Doesn't work for me either
I can't even get T9 to work with the full QWERTY keyboard...
If you install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2914474&postcount=8
Then you can get the old fashion word completion back on your Touch pro BUT it only works for the regular keyboards (not the new Touch Pro or Compact QWERTY Keyboard) Happy tappy would work with this. You need yo soft reset after installing this.
It will put you back on the old format with the old dictionary and auto complete and auto correct...but no more pretty keyboard...
What about auto complete with the harware keyboard
Still doesn't work with the hardware keyboard, any ideas?
Found the fix here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=425405
Word Completion
Same problem here, not getting word completion when typing, even though I have it turned on. I would like a fix for this.
Does anyone have word completion working?
James
word completion
was anyone able to find a fix? i have the fuze and my word completion is turned on but not working.
It does work for the physical keyboard but you still need the onscreen keyboard set to either Happy Tapping or the standard windows keyboard. it cannot be set to Full QWERTY. Also, a soft reset is required since the dictionaries go into the ROM on resets...
Whats goin on
Whats going on man!!!
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this stupid problem
I have word completion working on inputs all except the full qwerty and compact.
It works when you backspace after a few letters???
Please help someone
I seem to have an opposite problem with word completion. When I type in an email or sms, the word suggestion forces me to use its word. The change gets made automatically. Usually the word replaced is not what I wanted. I have tried unchecking the word suggestion/correction and made similar choices in Advanced Config. How can I stop this forced word replacement? Is there a registry hack that would stop this for good?
it is not working , any solutions

Same problem with me.
Is there a way to map a button (prefer the PPT button) so that when you push it, the onscreen keyboard appears?
Thanks!
Not too sure ...
AFAIK, the keyboard can only popup when the OS recognises you are in an environment where text input is allowed by the foreground application.
If that is the case, then a crude way of doing this would be to write a mortscript to "click" the screen at the coordinates where the keyboard icon is. This script could then be linked to one of the many keyboard mappers available (Have a look at AE Button Plus at http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php). This is crude however - I realise the position of the keyboard icon can vary from the middle to the rhs of the screen depending on application.
Why not just use the real keyboard ?

The reason is that I'm trying to get Windows 95 to run on my Fuze - and I got everything working except that I need to hit the F12 key. For that I installed VGA_Keyboard which has that - but the issue I'm having is figuring out how to get the keyboard to popup so I can actually hit the damn F12 key...hahaha...so close.....yet so far away...grrrrr
W95? Wow, that's interesting!
Sounds like the keyboard will be a w95 thing rather than a ppc thing? If so, is it not a w95 soft keyboard you need? Anyway, sorry, don't think I can help :-(
Hi: I just bought a used HTC AT&T Fuze. It works pretty well but there seems to be something whacky with the external keyboard. When I press the FN key, instead of allowing me to type numbers and symbols, it simply turns the caps lock on. It seems like the keyboard is functioning like a full QWERTY PC keyboard instead of a custom one for the phone. For example, when I type along the top row, instead of it typing the various symbols across the top of the keyboard, it types the numbers 1, 2, 3... When I use the CAPS lock, it inputs a TAB - which is exactly where the tab key is on a regular keyboard. (BTW, the FN key is exactly where the CAPS lock key is on a regular keyboard...) Anybody have any ideas what might be going on? I've tried a hard reset twice now - with no success.
SOLVED: Just updated the firmware and all is working perfectly now.
Thanks,
Dave
