[Q] Customizing Evo Shift for friend - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I recently installed Fasty 2.5 on my Captivate using odin and rooted it using super one click. A friend of mine wants to know if i could install a custom rom on his EVO shift 4g.
Can someone please point me in the right direction.
I would like to find a rom that saves battery and is faster than the stock rom for EVO shift 4g.
Also I would like to know if I can use Super One Click to root my friend's evo permanently.
Do I install the custom rom using odin? Or is odin a captivate only program?
Thank you for helping me. I am a little stuck and don't want to ruin his phone!
Also, I need a stock rom for the evo shift incase I screw up and need to go back to stock. USB jigs work for Evo shift's right? Thank you. Hope this all made sense

No you can't use Super One Click to Perm root your friends EVO Shift. First question is what is it currently on 2.2 , or 2.3 ? The methods for Perm Root vary for each. If the phone is currently on 2.3 you can use the method on THIS thread or THIS thread. If it's on 2.2 you can use the Win32 Tool]GUI Root with Check and Recovery or follow the instructions HERE . As for Roms there are many choices, all a matter of preferance. You could try MikShifted G v1.6 or Supreme Sense v5 , both have great battery life. Also, here is the 2.2 RUU back to stock unrooted 2.2. Hope that answers your questions

Thank you so much! this was very helpful. I'd give you a million thanks if I could XD I'm not sure if my friend is on 2.2 or 2.3 yet that is why I left that out of the question. Thank you for all the links!

Because you do not use punctuation it's not clear what the purpose if this thread is. A sentence or a question?

I would also really like to see a custom ROM for this abandoned phone. I know it was underpowered from day one and with moto dooming it to stay on 2.1 forever has made this a big avoid phone - but the little thing just looks funky and it'd be good to see it keep going
Also want a custom rom for Flipout (2.2 is enought) to my wife´s phone, to be able to use apps like Google Music !

What have you tried? There's:
1. Stock straight from the RUU but with proper rooting in PD98IMG format:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16118438#post16118438
2. Stock rooted deodexed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192372
3. InspirePhacopida (lightly themed with CRT animation):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193244
4. RumRunner (more heavily themed but still essential stock):

5. probably other's I couldn't find from a quick browse of the dev forums.
Please explain in detail what is not working or what you expect that you're not getting.

[Q] Need Opinions

Ok Guys.......here comes a Noob question....
To start off with I am familiar with rooting & flashing my Epic 4G.
But my wife has an Evo Shift & I'm not familiar with the ROM's out for the Shift.
Since the GB update rolled out her phone has been lacking & a little buggy.
She complained about the launcher redrawing, checked it & she is almost out of memory (internal) with very few apps installed.
My question is: I'm looking for your opinions on a good stable ROM with the bloat removed to free up space. She liked the phone better with Froyo so that could be an option.
Thanks in advance.
You could try Supreme sense 8.0 its a hybrid rom of 2.1 and 3.0 sense its very smooth and stable ive been running it for a month now no random reboots or nothing only bloatware is sprint hotspot and thats all.
this article might help install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201233
Closes to froyo is the mikshift rom expect its gingerbread and from what i've read has no problems and is closes to stock
She's probably used to Sense and would complain but if you really want to free up memory then I'd suggest an AOSP ROM like CM7. Or she might like MIUI.

If you want something that is very close to stock. You can try MikShift v1.1, it's Froyo 2.2 . Or if you prefer 2.3 Gingerbread, MikShifted G v1.76. Both are Stable, Smooth, and very quick. Even on the stock Kernel, without Overclocking.
supreme sense 8 or cm7 nightly.

New to rooting with this phone

I have rooted 3 phones prior to this one. I have it all set up and running Refuse 1.7. I have seen that there are a good load of roms available for the infuse 4g. Many of them say 2.3.5, etc. Is that the android version needed by the phone before installing the rom? I am on 2.2.1 and am worried about installing any other rom, than one which has froyo in the name leaving me with only 3 choices. Any help would be appreciated I want to try a miui rom or something else from here but am worried that since I have 2.2.1 when I install one that has 2.3 in its name I will brick.

No bro, the " 2.3.5" or "2.3.6" its that ROMs Android version, not the one needed to install it, still you do need a modified recovery to easily install a custom rom. I would personally recomend this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088
as a good guide for new guys trying to install custom roms since the instructions are very detailed and hardly would give you trouble. After installing that rom you would have gathered the necessary knowledge to choose your next rom like MIUI or CM7 or another samsung Infuse rom or Samsung port to Infuse.

[Q] ROM suggestions please

A friend of mine just got a droid 2 global and wants to install a custom rom that is very stable and fast, with no bloat. I personally am a sprint user with an EVO 4G, so looking through the development section is a little greek to me. He just rooted, and intalled CWM Recovery using something called bootstrap.. not sure what that is, but he seems to be rooted fine and can boot into CWM just fine. He a few states away so I am helping him by telephone.
Can anyone suggest a good rom to install. I don't think he is looking for a MIUI type ROM as this is his first android phone and wants the real feel of the android OS. Maybe a good ROM/Kernel combo would be great. Thanks!
There are a few floating around in the Dev section..
