[Q] HD2 using MIUI 1.7.8 and no Smilies!!

Hello,
I'm using the newest Version of [10 JUL 11]PATs JW MIUI Sense like v1.7.8 v2 Multilanguage[MAGLDR/cLK]

I'm very pleased with this ROM but since 1.7.8 v1
there are no more Smielies available at the Keyboard during writting a SMS.
Also the old SMS shows no Smilies anymore.
How can I get back the funy Android-Smilies?

did you look at the thread and searched for similiar posts? and is there a big change compared to an older release?
EDIT: there is a v2 of the release. did you try it?

Yes I have searched, but nothing found.
I'm using the V2 and I thought the problem will be solved by the MMS fix.
The App has changed in the ROM. The Style is different to the last one with Smilies in V 1.7.1 V3.
Maybe it will be solved in next release!

This is due to the sense keyboard I believe. Have you tried switching to the android keyboard?
Edit: Nope this didn't work either

I will look into this issue and see what i can do about it. Somehow i think this has to do with the MMS fix that has been added to the 1.7.8 releases or something missing in the language package. Will get back to you

Hi,
yes the battery drain seams to be be higher, as before.
"Mobilifunk-standby" has 25% in my case.
But I think the battery drain is a general problem in all ROMs.
Have you down loaded the "smart keyboard" from market?
Have found this keyboard at market.
Are smilies included???
Sorry, but at home in the evening I have no time for PC stuff,
so I only check my Threads or have I short look during the day.

Yes...its okay, but I used smart keyboard too much cant use another one now
yes...i think its a paid version...u can also change the skin...use an iphone, galaxy, htc or custom skin
One thing is to press the "enter"-button a while...then u can choose some smilies AND u also can write your own smilies like ""^^"" in my case

I have MIUI 1.7.15 and had 1.7.8. Best rom if you looking for no lag, but having issues with 3g network connection and finding the GPS is very slow on it. Two major issues for me.

GPS is fast...in my case...u need to use a-gps works great!
Its just one thing about that rom, that i dont like..its just my battery drain, if i use 3g or 2g...in short: if i need internet without wifi...

thnx for the suggestion, ill try a-gps and see if that helps, other roms i don't have the problem, any Ideas how to get the mobile browser working in 3G? Of all the browser's out there only Firefox for me will work on MIUI 3G without wifi. Earlier versions of MIUI didn't have any network problems on 3g.

Can't use it, because LP Sense UI don't starts the keyboard any more after installation.
The known error message appears: "... unexpected terminated.."
Have to uninstall to be able to write a SMS or other text.

I have tested many keyboards.
Now I'm testing SlideIT.
It is a compromise because it supports smilies, but in SMS they appear not as graphic like before.
I hope this issue will be solved in future.

Google has started to pushing out a new Market update in V.3.4.4. The inspection of your apps operates more quickly than before (apparently).
You can add tips or shortcuts on your home screen. The option is visible "auto-adds shortcuts" on the apk settings. Look the screens

Got this OTA yesterday, obly notcied a difference with the layout slightly different.. i checked and it updated itself.

You can update by this download or trying by OTA.
It's a same apk.
If you download it, just install like an update. It's easier

Constant shutdowns of Sense

Hi,
Is there any way to get a higher priority for sense ? I'm getting irritated by it shutting down all the time (eg. I get an SMS - unlock the phone, read the SMS in the default SMS client, and after that hit HOME and have to wait for sense to startup again). I've checked and I have ~100MB RAM free while the sense is running, so there is space to run some apps.

me too, that is so annoying, can anybody help!

Used to have that all the time too. Then I went with a custom Rom and used pyramid 3d. Never happened again

Why doesn't anyone SEARCH for an answer? I have posted the answer and solution to this question repeatedly...

use a different launcher and bypass the problem altogether.
more then likely you'll like the more custom options offered by other launchers anyway.
only thing you'll lose are some of the Sense widgets but there are good 3rd party replacements for them.
plus you'll free up more ram.
can't wait til ICS. Hopefully HTC fully optimize the Sense UI by then and we won't experience all the lag and things... not to mention the customization options offered in ICS... kind of likes what we got in Go/ADW/ect.

There's something in the build.prop you can change to keep it locked in the memory. Not sure what it is though.

I tried going through all the ics related topics here but couldnt really find an extensive hands-on review of the update. So if you could post what changes the new update brings, its pro's/ cons, how smooth or laggy it feels etc.
Would appreciate it.

Hmm... I think there is no single review for it, but here and there, people have posted a lot about it.
No signs of it in India yet.... The wait is killing...

All i could gather from the topics is that the update has a lot of bugs. Heck im not even sure if this update was only meant for elevate members. The only thing i care about is sense 3.6 should not be resource heavy and ics should use the hardware of the sensation to its full extent. I love sense but 3.0 is a powerhog and im forced to use go launcher.

IMHO the update is very good. It improves a lot the overall performances and it is a pleasure to use the Sensation (I repeat overall...) as it has never been.
I've only found one really annoying bug: the default browser doesn't load directly a link from another app (eg. twitter), but it needs a second tap because the first one opens up the last visited page. So you need to exit fromthe broser and re-tap the desired link.
This becomes very annoying when you need to use google search...first try: latest visited page; exit browser + second try: search results.
This one and the few spelling mistakes here and there in some menus could have been the reason of the pre-release to the elevate members, to have them reported, then fix them and finally release a bug free update, but now that we know this is the final release I think these are ridiculous bugs.
I can only think they released the update even with these few errors because of the competition with samsung to be the first to give ICS to the customers...again: riduculous!
I hope they are aware of this and release a fix soon enough...

So the default browser is trouble free but not so when visiting links from another app. Shouldnt bother me much. Though it is dissapointing to see htc make such mistakes, seems they didn't focus too much on testing. Im pretty sure itll be atleast a month before we see the update in india, hopefully all the bugs would be sorted by then.

my htc cmes in india coz i have cid htc-038. but i live in philippines.. when the update comes in india i can get it also.. im thinking to root my phone using tacoroot.. but ill wait until the end of the month..

ICS update Sensation - HTC I'm dissapointed

First of all those you think official ICS update is awesome can close this thread for those who are interested to know why it SUCKS and how HTC really blew it read below
Almost 1 month ago when the update was available on Elevate XDA and non XDA members found some annoying bugs and notified HTC. However, nothing was fixed and this half baked update was pushed to the devices...
1. Music app is completely f***ed up! Not only its slow as hell to change tracks its UI became useless. If you look at overall design scheme it seems like big buttons at the bottom (just like in GB) are available almost everywhere (main menu, email client, personalize selection area) but not here WHY? because this app wasn't finished.
2. Native widgets are not updated, if you check the version some of them still show 3.0 build numbers. Again they didn't optimize them. Music widget flashes each time you change the homescreen, calendar's agenda view is not updated, it refreshes each time you flip home screen
3. Camera app doesn't close properly. if you enabled auto-brightness and opened/closed the camera it still keeps highest brightness level (only fix is to lock/unlock the device)
4. Stupid spelling mistakes such as develop option , Last OTA update fixed all spelling errors expect this one
5. Lock screen wallpapers doesn't change when you set a custom one, ringtones dont play properly. UPDATE: After you manually set your ringtones this problem is fixed
Overall I'm really sad that they did this, I really thought HTC genuinely cares about quality and its customers.
When Sense 4.0 ROMs become stable and rock solid I'm going to flash my device and never expect something from HTC again

While i agree there are a few bugs in ICS that need sorting, overall ICS on the Sensation is much better than Gingerbread.
No doudt HTC will sort out the bugs with a few small updates in the coming months.

@Pikabat, you’ve got a UK phone haven’t you? So you’ll only just have updated? Have you really given it enough time to give that sort of judgement? Besides the issue you’ve given aren’t life threatening are they? They sound like niggles. Apart from those issues does the phone run more smoothly? More responsive?

I have not updated to ICS the official way, but I think I have (thanks to mike1986) what who updated waiting until the very end of march has.
I want to say that I am a little bit disappointed too, because of the "beta release" to the elevate members that became the final release to everyone even if it has some bugs.
But I didn't notice all the bugs you are mentioning and you didn't talk about a very annoying one I really hate...the browser.
These are the bugs I actually have:
1. there are stupid spelling mistakes in italian too, but the music player, widgets and lockscreen wallpapers work well;
2. Sometimes the autobrightess when you exit the camera app stays to the maximum (same thing happened with GB);
3. the most annoying one...the browser not opening links from other apps, but opening the last visited page at the first tap instead, forcing you to exit and re-tap the link to have finally it loaded (a flashable zip by liamsstears fixed this).
4. Multitouch switches touches between two fingers when one stays on the screen and the other taps somewhere else.
So, after the browser fix and SebastianFM kernel that fixes the multitouch, I can say I have a really nice, fast and stable ICS with Sense 3.6 on my Sensation, thanks to HTC releasing it and to developers on xda fixing the embarrassing bugs HTC left in.

Do a hard reset, works wonders to allowing the OTA to 'take' so to speak. Not had any of the issues you've experienced (except the glaring spelling mistakes, but HTC are already aware of them)

What updates..don't think there be any..HTC has a habit oaf this new phones comes pit the forget about the old ones. Guess its time to forget HTC.

How come I don't see any of these spelling mistakes you people talk about? I mean I can't find "aerplane", where is it? And "Personal storage" is properly capitalized also.. I can only find "Develop option", but to be honest I'm not too sure that this really is a mistake, though english is not my native language. And widgets are fine too, including camera, no other issues also.
Is it possible that there were two OTA updates? One that was unfinished and was released by mistake, and the other one is 'final'?

I installed mine ICS through the official OTA way, followed it up with a hard reset and the only problems i share with you are the spelling mistakes....may it be worth doing one of these to see if it clears it up?

What do you call blinking? The artist name updating?

Yes, but that's minor compared to the delay that happens every time you skip a track. I can hear an odd sound similar to the one that you hear when you unplug headphones. I dont know how else I can explain that one

It is the same. How is this possible? Maybe HTC hasn't marked the beta version as beta before the leak so that there exist two different OTAs but with the same naming? I mean it would not be too surprising, after all, the unfinished final version wasn't supposed to be released at all.

The OTA is not beta, it's just a few spelling mistakes in certain locales - they'll sort it out eventually
