[Q] Cappy Replacement - General Questions and Answers

I have decided that it is time to upgrade from my beat up Cappy. I pose this question, Is Samsung still the best phone around or should I perhaps look at another maker? I gotta stay Android. And I gotta be able to unlock and rom it. Does anyone feel like giving me a suggestion? I am on AT&T so I need the 850/1900 combo

[Q] Which phone to buy?

Okay, so I'm eligible for an upgrade from T-Mobile tomorrow, and can choose any phone I want, and I am wondering which one would be best for me. Obviously, I'm looking for some sort of smartphone but I'm wondering what you guys think. With my last purchase, I found out how quickly I got outdated (yeah, G1) without root. So, what do you guys think?
(I've had my eyes on the G2 for a while. Opinions on it?)

Goodbye my sweet DHD

Well after a few torrid months of appalling service, I have been allowed to get out of my contract with Vodafone 21 months early with no penalty (!)
They just couldn't provide a service for me that worked, so after multiple complaints and even the TIO, I was able to port out to a new provider, the only thing that is a problem is they wanted the DHD back, they tried to tell me they were being gracious and offered me it for $500, I declined.
So... I have also had to jump hardware camps and I now have a Samsung Galaxy S I9000
The reason to tell you this?
The way you do things on it is TOTALLY WEIRD compared to the DHD, so far if I even fart it goes into a boot loop
I know it will be a week or so before I get my head round it, but to all you 'users' that keep asking obvious questions and think the DHD/HTC method is hard...
Try the bloody SGS
I'll keep looking in as I loved my DHD with LeeDrOiD, more in the hope he decides to do a ROM for the SGS....
Out of the frying pan, into the fire.
Do you miss the screen real estate that you had before?
jumping ship from htc for better phone is like flying out of tibet for a higher mountain

Totally agree. Samsung makes good hardware. They just suck with software. Again, this is all just personal preference. I don't like Touchwiz (looks too iPhone-y and toyish) and I don't like that they take so long to roll out updates (or none, here in the US).

Lol I hatred it too; that's why I installed acustom rom on it.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon
You should of just bought it, I payed $850NZD for mine about 4-5 weeks ago and I wouldn't trade it for any other phone. LeeDroid rom is sure awesome!

Yeah, I do.
Taking some time to get used to it, but once you grasp the basics, plenty to play with ;-)
Cheers people for reading.
Phone companies must not work the same when buying contract phones I guess as it does here in the States...So question for anyone in the UK, even if you cancel your contract halfway through a 2 year agreement, do you still have to give back the phone?
Meh, I sold a Vibrant for one and the vibrant is the worst of the galaxy S line... just trade... craigslist it...

I think we might have one Samsung fan on the whole forum. I have a Samsung Epic 4G. Best hardware available (second only to the Atrix, now) and have 2.1 Eclair. Why can't the most capable single core line of phones get a f***ing upgrade??
F*** Samsung.
Enjoy your new phone dode , that ok you should hold back : )

[Q] How Upgrading Works?

This is going to seem like the stupidest question EVAR to most people but when you upgrade your phone do you have to return the old one if you got it on-contract from your carrier?
I've always just bought a new one so i don't know how upgrading works.

i dont know how conadian compies work like rodgers but with sprint at least u dont have to trade in your phone. u can if u want and they will give u credit for the upgrade.
Verizon is the same way...you keep your old phone.
Thanks for the Answer, I hope it's the same as in the US if I get a SGSii or the Next Nexus or whatever I don't want to give back my Cappy.

[Q] stay with this phone or exchange?

hi everyone,
i have a quick question, i just upgraded my phone to the nexus s from sprint, they give me 13 days to return if i wanted to do that, the main reason i got this phone was for the NFC chip to be able to use google wallet, however i got it and i can't even use it becasue the prepaid card from google wallet is not working i called them and they say that the system is down and it wouln't go back on for about 2 weaks.
My question is do you guys think i should stay with this phone or i should bring it back and exchange to the galaxy s2 epic 4g?
thanks for all of your input on this.

I'd prefer a Nexus phone over anything. An unlockable bootloader if you want to flash your own ROM's and the fastest OTA's if you want to stay stock.
The only phone worth exchanging it for is the Galaxy Nexus, in my opinion. But I don't really see the need yet. The Nexus S is a great phone, even though the specs may be less astonishing than many new phones.

You could take it back and wait on Sprints GN

i heard that its going to be a will before that come out
I think the Nexus is definitely worth keeping. It's a great size, and there is still a massive amount of developing being done. Keep it ... you won't regret it.
Gs2 will be upgraded ics soon
If you have enough money, the answer is gs2
Stick with it!

thanks everybody for the replays
When I first got my NS4G I got bored of it quick. I was used to HTC Sense. I have almost traded it and/or sold it many times, but when it gets down to it I CANNOT part with this phone. The Nexus is one of the greatest phones. Pure Google, no Sprint or Samsung bloatware. I have learned so much with this phone.

[Q] best verizon phone

hey folks,
xda has been great. I have used info found to root and flash three different devises.
now I'm looking to up grade with Verizon. I'm grandfathered in on good rates. So, I come to the folks who know with this question, what phone would you all recommend?
I want to root and from as soon as it comes in, leave the Verizon junk in the trash bin and gain control before they lock me out of my own phone.
thanks in advance,
Donald Norman
I'm obviously biased, since I have a Nexus, but right now, that's the direction I would recommend. The Galaxy S3 sounds great, really, and it probably will be. But you know that updates for the Nexus will be fast and you know the development will keep going until you'd want a new phone. Might be the same for GS3, just don't know yet. The couple of complaints people have had about the Nexus have generally been fixed or can be tweaked with ROMs or, in the case of the camera, are personal preference. I do quick point and shoot with my phone, not expecting DSLR quality, and I have great results for my expectations.
Hope that helps a little.

You should totally get the Samsung Nexus, I mean they already have a way to root it, the update to ICS, and etc.
