[Q] Reusing phone - General Questions and Answers

I will soon have an adroid smartphone that will no longer have a simm card with at&t. If it is a supported phone, can I download cm7 etc and still use it with SIP?

Is it possible to use an 8020 or 8100 as a music player without SIM card?

I have two phones that aren't in use, one 8020 and one 8100. I would like to have them as pure music players, but when I try, I always get to the screen with "Missing on invalid SIM card" and can't seem to get rid of that. Is there a way get around that?
Solved it myself! Putting in a SIM-card, going to Flight mode, turning off the cellphone and starring it again without a SIM-card worked!

A few questions please: 3G in AT&T, business phones and syncing WiMo data to Android

A few questions please: 3G in AT&T, business phones and syncing WiMo data to Android
My years-old Tilt finally broke so I need to get a new phone ASAP. I really like HTC phones but my main concern is keeping my data synced online (Google Calendar) and with my computer (Thunderbird+Lighting) because I use my phone mainly for business purposes. The Tilt is WinMo but I was thinking of getting an Android, the problem is that I don't know if I'd be able to sync my WinMo data (WinMo My phone) with an Android phone. Also, I'd like to have 3G even if I get a non-AT&T phone. So my questions are:
1. How do I know if a non-AT&T phone will work on 3G in AT&T?
2. Can Android phones open and edit Office files?
3. Can I sync my data (contacts, Google calendar, sms, etc.) from WinMo to an Android phone?
Thanks.
Edit: The phone is kaput, the screen is all white and a replacing the screen didn't solve this. Windows Mobile Device Center shows an error when I connect the phone to the computer.

1. If it's not an ATT Phone, it won't support ATT 3G. However, if the specifications state that it was made to support ATT's 3G than it will suppot it. Very simple stuff....
2. Yes.
3. Don't know.

[Q] Android Search n Rescue!

Hi im an N1 user and would like to ask if there is any app on the market which will help me with search and rescue of my phone.
It must be compatible with all versions of android (my sister is still having to work with 1.6 on the Tattoo!)
It must provide a facility wherein a background process will run and detect that a new SIM card has been inserted send the new SIM pin number (or better still the actual tel no of the sim inserted) to a predesignated number via SMS. This way, the GPS being on/off or the wifi/gprs/3G activity is not a requirement.
Probably the only workaround would be if the thief is smart enough to reinstall the entire OS on the phone before putting in the new SIM. (then i guess im just screwed!)
looking forward to the experts input here at xda.
Thanks.

Use Marketplace and Windows Live signin without SIM card

Hey folks-
I just got a new phone and wanted to give my old Samsung Focus Flash to my girlfriend so she could play games on it. It won't have a SIM card in it, and won't be on the network in any way. Is this possible via wifi? It looks like it won't let me sign into Windows live account (and therefore won't let me use the Marketplace) without the SIM card in it.
You can login to your WinLiveID account only by WiFi connecting and without sim card and you can use Maket Place.
That's what I'm trying to say, I CANNOT login to windows live id or use the Marketplace without the SIM card. It won't let me.
Turns out you must have a Sim card in. the phone for the initial setup on windows phone. Once that's done, then the marketplace and such work just fine without the Sim card. A royal pain, but atty least it works now.

No, I have done it many times without a sim after a flash, no need for a sim.
When you boot the device up, just accept the terms & conditions and when sign in with live id comes click later. When the phone boots to start screen connect to wifi and enter your live id and enter marketplace. Make sure though in the beginning that you enter correct date/time info as there is no sim and network where the sim could get it automatically. If you have incorrect date/time live will not accept your login.
Lol, you guys aren't getting it. Whatever your own experiences have been, my experience was emphatically that it did not work. I HAD to have the sim card in in order to do the initial setup on Windows Live. Yes, I had a good wifi network, yes I passed on the setup on the first bootup and tried later. Still no dice. Once I had the sim card in, it signed in no trouble. I then took the card out and the phone works on wifi without any trouble.
Well are you sure your time settings werent wrong, and when you popped in your sim card, it automatically got time and date from network.
If you have wrong time and/or date it will not let you log in to your Live account.
Because lol you are not getting it, log in works without sim card I have done this 100 times.

Transfer phonebook from old to new phone

I am trying to find way to transfer all contacts from OLD phone ( sgh - e530)... and still nothing.dozen of apps/ windows software, virtual machine.
I have new phone - Nokia Lumia 720,but i cant transfer all my phones (about 150 contacts ) .
First i've tried Samsung PC Studio,Samsung PC Studio II 2.0.And i manage to copy all 150 to SIM card + a single file with all contacts on my desktop ,but is .ESB file and cant find way how to use it....Then i put the sim on my HTC Desire c ,but unfortunately i cant send those sim contacts via bluetooth to my new Nokia, because before 2 weeks i install custom ROM, so i cant access the sim.
Also i've tried Samsung PC Studio 3, Samsung PC Studio 7 ,but the phone is not supported The last one is installed on virtual machine (vmware workstation)
So, i need some software that supports SGH e530 ,or some kind of bluetooth access, or idk what...simply i cant imagine what else to do ....
PS : i cant put that SIM on nokia ,because Nokia supports OnlY Micro SIM,
Try going to your carrier and ask them to transfer your contacts over from your old phone to your new. Most will be able to.
As mentioned above I believe that your carrier will have a tool that you can just place the sim cards into and it will transfer them. We had one at work, and AFAIK you can also purchase them for not too much, however if it's a one off job, it seems pretty frivolous..

The best way for Microsoft phones is to use outlook. Most phones (the pc software) have a connector to this program.
