[Q] Kink Aardschok is gone! - General Questions and Answers

Today 10/1/11, I go to listen to my favorite streaming radio station and find out it's been shut down. I recall some others on here listening to that station and wonder if there's other stations out there similar to Kink Aardschok. It was the best metal and hard rock station I've ever heard, anywhere.
Coodaddy

I joined this forum just to let you know that you're not the only one missing this radio station!
Aardschok became my second choice alias - and I'm not even dutch haha
The website is gone too, I'm hoping that they are going under some sort of maintenance or merger.. or something and that this epic radio station will be brought back to life!
Loved the registration video haha

Hey guys,
i was disappointed, too... but:
The kink djs found a new home at pinguinradio.nl . (Sorry for not linking the URL, but i am not allowed)
I am listening for 5 minutes now and they don't play metal at the moment. Hopefully, they will set up another stream.
As an alternative, there may be rockantenne.de/webplayer/?playchannel=heavy-metal . It's not as good as kink aardschok, but it's ok
EDIT: I found that pinguinradio.nl will start with their full program on January, 1st. So maybe then, there will be a metal stream again.
See spitsnieuws.nl/archives/entertainment/2011/09/kink-fm-djs-beginnen-pinguin-radio (if you understand Dutch)

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

really really sad that for sure
chronixradio.com would be a good alternative
but i hope too that pinguinradio start with a metal programm

Yeahhhh!

Noobie alert!!!

Hi all,
Thought I should start with a quick intro before making any other posts. Came accross this forum trying to get my XDA Exec (o2 std) to work with my Nokia 610 carkit. I knew nothing about BTsap and figured the carkit was just a big old headset.
Great search function! So far I have done the following...
Tried out Helmi_c AKU 3.5 1.3 rom, nice but then realised that I could flash it to crossbow so installed Jwrightmcps 2.02.02 WWE. Now everything works nicely (sort of, but I'll put feedback in the appropriate threads!)
Also installed the skype beta, vbar22, pbar and played around with the registry to get the data connection disconect options / changing the BT ID of the phone (to a phone not a PDA).
With the search function I managed to fix the mess I made after deleting the settings folder from the start menu and find the bar software from above.
Thanks to everyone who has made the software I've tried, answered other questions in the forums (which helped me indirectly) and put together the how to sections (3 ROM flashes and I haven't bricked my phone so I'm happy!)
Any other newbies out there, my advice would be to use the search function, read alot (i spent most of a bank holiday weekend searching and testing) and don't just dive straight in with questions like "I dwn lded xyz, now my fone is broked, PLZ HELP!!!!!" You will get much more from a SEARCH, and using correct grammar! (all capitals intended!)
Regards
Steve
I think we should have a 'best first post ever' award, this guy wins for sure
Nice going, keep it up

You know there are many type of people in the world, the good, the bad & the ugly, or the smart, the stupid & the idiot.
Guess this is the good & smart person.
@Steve_C
Guess you do not use Video Call. Video Call is not working well in all current WM6 Cooked ROMs. So the best ROM around with Video Call is still Helmi Aku3.5 v1.3.
@Midget
Sounds like you, you sure that is not you. Ha Ha Ha... just kidding

I guess even at my age (54) one can be naive ... I thought that most people "help themselves", then ask for help when they had exhausted that option! I.e. look for answers before asking for them!!!!
I am very pleased that the approach of "seeking and ye shall find" has been approriately recognised!!!!

lmao.. i find this video so funny... first of all... all car alarm are encryped code radio not IR... if it was IR then that means that any one with a programmable house remote control could open your car... LOL
that guy probly has someone behind the camera with a set of back ups pushing the button for him...
but i am quite curious if it really does work though... i have seen a lot of """impossible"" things being done here so there is no doubt in my mind that some way or some how it is possible.
could anyone confirm?
I have tried the phone trick where you call someone push the button then it will unlcook the car and it works semi well. Takes a while for the car to receive it.

I don't have time to watch the video right now...but on the theoretical side.
It could be possible. The first generation Renault Laguna & Rover 800 series used IR central locking. I know as I've had these cars and what fun it was trying to get into the blooming things on cold mornings when frost on the windows blocked the line of sight for the IR beam, and the door locks were frozen!
My old Ipaq had Consumer IR, which meant with programs like Vito Remote it was possible to program it to work TV's, VCR's etc, so with the right software...
Now any modern radio controlled central locking or car alarm system is basically a radio receiver working on a rotating frequency. The keyfob has a mini trnsmitter in it, syncronised to issued the unlock or disarm command on a certain frequency. So it could be possible to program any transmitter to do the same job, but I don't see this being a big threat due to the millions of possible combinations!
This is what I was talking about, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_z4zX3BBHw&feature=related. I think that video is fake but I did it and it worked I was at school and my friend was at home sick and he left his car at school so I told him this we tried this and it worked.

Agreed its amusing but it is definitely way OT for the Kaiser forum, especially as we don't even have an IR port on the Kaiser
Renault Megane from 1996 can be opened with Wizard and remote program learned from the original key.
However it works for some time only. You can't open with the learned code after some time (eg. the next day).

Sirius XM App coming to Android

I searched but didn't see anything on this. Excuse me if I missed it but I just caught the head line while looking at some stock info and figured some here would find the news welcome.
http://www.marketwatch.com/story/si...d-smartphones-2010-04-23?reflink=MW_news_stmp
sounds good but i wonder how much space this app will take up? i know i tried to use IGO and that app took up way too much storage space for my tastes.
I had Sirius for 2 years, before and after they merged with XM Radio. The radio I had was awesome as I could record songs that were playing, save mp3's to it and carry it in my pocket like an mp3 player. However, their content sucked. I heard songs from bands I never heard of and alot of them sucked. I did hear some that were good that I don't hear on the radio, but time after time it was horrible.
And even though the app is free, it looks like you still have to pay for there service.
yeah, that app is coming, but it really chaps me that they they charge extra for the service to use this. IMO they are complete idiots for not giving it to customers already pay for their service. I have xm in both of my cars, but I really think slacker is better, I doubt I'll renew next time it rolls around because slacker is free on my phone or least some version of it is.
Hey, this is pretty good news. I had Sirius in my car and it's so good to be able to choose the content you want to hear... saves so much time. I've discovered so much new music that I haven't heard before. Best of all, there are no ads!
My wife has sirius in her car, but i will not be using this app because it looks as though you have to pay extra for the online service. Pandora works for me!
I'll stick with slacker/pandora/last.fm/iheartradio/imusic tao
Yeah, I'll probably stick with Padora unless i can get that one show. What's that guys name...
I've been using Pandora for quite a bit now and find that the same songs keep popping up for the same station! I wish it didn't replay songs that were already played before... that is, without thumbing down on all the songs. That's the only gripe that I have about it.
Looks like it's for the nexus one or droid...
If they had howard 100 and howard 101, I would be all over this!

Hoo hoo! I invented Android, Robin
Not sure what content will actually make it on the app but I'm figuring that if you are a paying sub you might try logging in via the website once the new flash player is released it would probably work.

I find it welcome news. I have a subscription to XM and own stocks in SiriusXM. All I can say is...it's about time.
This is a good thing for Android users, but I wont buy it. I will stick to Slacker, at least Slacker has explicit contents

New OS possible?

Hello everybody,
First of all, this is my very first post on this amazing forum. I read the rules and I hope this is the right place...
Currently I am researching possibilities for a large scale mobile device project. I can’t really go into the specific details, but I am sure most of you would be interested. You might even want to follow me on Twitter (OMdeGraaf) for a couple of months and find yourself pretty amazed by the stuff I have to share.
The problem is that I don’t know it all. I can’t study every detail by myself and therefore I am interested in what some dedicated people here can tell me about well… let’s say writing an OS for a phone and I am not talking about a customized Android OS but a completely new one.
Thanks in advance, and I am looking forward to get to know some people on XDA and share some thoughts
Matt
So if i get this right, you're researching the options on how to develop a new OS, and you can't tell anything yet, and you don't have the know-how? Also, It seems that you're twitter account is just new. Taking that on account, with your first tweet, i actually don't trust this story. you handle new thing such as twitter like a n00b.
Also, last but not least, You have a distinct Dutch Name, but you live in the USA? Not saying that's wrong, but it's another thing that just doesn't feel right...
And there is one further thing:
Welcome to XDA-Forums!

Hi,
Welcome to Xda,
i think to make a new os you might need to make a new phone to fit its requirements unless it's like android or windows mobile or a mix
also it would take a lot of hard of hard work and time (few years maybe to create complete new os)
All the best
P.S: if you do make a new os we will all be very pleased and happy to test!
Sounds like another vaporware-to-collect-donations project.

Sorry, once you've been on the internetz long enough, you turn cynical, sour, and into an old fart.
He has nothing to show, has been extremely vague, clearly just joined XDA just to tell us this, and his twitter account is new.....but go ahead. Feel free to believe that he has "something amazing to show" and that he's really a good person deep down inside.

I had the same feeling. And just staying on-topic about being long on the internetz; Don't you mean interwebz?
Thanks for the warm welcome. And I understand that people question my goal here. But I can assure you that I am not looking for funding or donations. But there are a couple of things I can say;
First of all I am Dutch (liked the match against Denmark today! twee-nul) and yes, I am new to Twitter
Second is that I can't really go into details is because the project is still in the very early stage. The company backing me up (ie financing) isn't ready yet to go public with it. But I can start doing some research and I believe XDA is the right place.
Zac.Santer mentioned that a new phone is probably required. That is good to know, consider how good people are at hacking phones these days I wasn't sure about that. Tomorrow morning there is another meeting and I think a good subject would be 'Android or a huge investment'
would this be a linux kernel based os or a whole new kernel/os?
Lawl. The reason why everything is so hushed is simply because there is nothing there.
You're full of it OP.
I strongly advise any dev of XDA to be extremely careful with OP. He's definitely not here to build a new OS, I'll tell you that right now.

Well, the Unix like kernels have a good track record and would save time. And since Linux has a great trackrecord, including mobile devices, I guess that would be a good option. C++ is a great language, though I prefer JAVA.
What would you advice?

Well, the final goal is a Smartphone that is cheap and for the masses. The problem these days with Smartphones is that you pay for the research development. The material itself may be worth $40 So what we are trying to achieve is to reduce costs on every part down the line of development. How we are going to achieve this is... complicated
i see the problem. I can help out
Next is dutch, much easier to tell so(we won't be criticizing you guys in dutch so you don't understand, XDA is great)

you know that if you decide do make your os in an object orientated language its needs a monolithic kernel?!?
A good idea that would be actually doable without massive R&D funding and teams of developers would be to create an OS based off of the Debian ARM kernel. No need to reinvent the wheel.
I'm thinking of some kind of Maemo/MeeGo type familiar linux functionality with a slicker, more polished UI.

This is already being achieved... Qualcomm's Brew OS is set to be just what you said. An affordable smartphone, cheap for the masses. The HTC Smart for example (Only Brew phone I know of) is very affordable because the hardware is not as advanced. Qualcomm is trying to make brew the go-to OS for affordablilty for smartphones.
