[Q] Tmobile SGS2 with lcd density change versus qHD? - HTC Sensation

I have read many threads abouth qhd versus superamoled etc...
Im just wondering because many people mention that a big plus of the qHD is you could see more of lets say the browser.
This obviously makes sense because the bigger resolution. I notice this for example in the xda app when it first opens you see more of the rows available to click on.
I used to have an hd2 and changed lcd density and also saw more rows.
So my question is if I changed the lcd density on the SGS2 to make it lets say have the exact same rows in the xda app. (Lets pretend the sgs2 is 4.3 not 4.5)
I do realize the quality should technically favor the qHD but now that they show the same amount of broswer or xda app for example, is the difference that obvious to our eyes at normal viewing distance?????
This could already be proven with the regular international sgs2 so Im curious if anyone's tried it maybe?
Thanks

I'm no videophile but you're half correct. YES indeed you could fit more on the sgs2 screen by using lcd density, but how that's going to look all jammed in there like that is another story.
What i mean is, with the two different screen types, there are pixel count differences. an example is, a user with an htc evo, uses "200" on lcd density to get it to look around my resolution (htc sensation). but will it LOOK as crisp, smooth, and natural at that resolution? NO WAY.

Yes that what I meant. I know u COULD show as much by changing density but if its even slightly noticeable ill pass. I was thinking maybe our eyes wouldn't notice it lol
Like a we wouldn't notice 1080p versus 720p on a 4 inch scteen type of deal. I wasn't sure though cause obviously were not talking that kinda resolution.
Thanks for the reply. I think ill just stick with the sensation I have. I love it. Im just always wanting to try the new thing even though I'd prolly be back with what I started. The sensation.
The resolution was the big thing for me..

Nexus S Old Vs New : SAMOLED VS SLCD

All the newer Nexus S that will be launched won't have the Super Amoled Display like most of ours, will the new displays be better than ours? Or will the original Nexus S reign supreme?

That is a matter of personal preference. The media will say that Super AMOLED is 10 times as good, and most other people will say that too, but Super Clear LCD has it's advantages.
I suggest you read through the Nexus S i9023 Super Clear LCD thread, and see what you think is better!

hi
where can i find this thread?
You can find my thread here. It contains A LOT of comparison pictures, videos and opinions about the two different screens.
Succes!

Anyone coming from the LG optimus. 2x?

Is there anyone who can directly compare the performance of the 2x vs the sensation?
They seem about the same. But a hands on report would rock. Thanks in advance.

forget the numbers thats posted...look at how the video performs, i think the sensation is lagging behind both the g2x and the gs2
While I can't give a hands-on report on this matter: The Sensations much higher resolution will undoubtedly put a much higher strain on the phones processing hardware. I really can't believe it is going to be all that noticeable in day-to-day use, though.
What I did notice all the time on my Galaxy S2 were things like small text that was badly readable on websites due to the phones low resolution (of course, double-tap will solve that problem - but, still).

well thats a bummer...what good is a high resolution screen when the phone is struggling to play a video or a game at a faster rate?

The second game bench they run shows the Sensation ahead. They end the vid before any scores show, but the GS2 is last. Odd.
To be clear, I've written benchmarks for other systems, so I know how finicky they can be. I really only care about the daily use of the phone.
(Also a bit funny they label the HTC as the Incredible at the beginning)

Explaination needed

Somebody please explain why every single thread i read people is talking about the sgs2 like its a god send or something ,is it really better than the phone we got in the states or its just one of those i want what i can't have type of deals. From what i read its not that earth shattering.

people compare the sensation to sgs2 because these are the currently top 2 phones out right now. Right out of the box, the sgs2's UI is smoother, and it has a very nice screen with wonderful color contrast. It's also very thin; 1gb ram instead of 768?ram) And then there's the debate in which people argue whether SGS2's processor is better than the sensation's.
Really, you are not missing out much, unless you want the SGS2's screen really bad. Overall, there's not much significant difference between the two devices and it all depends on your preference (which processor you want, qHD vs super amoled plus, which UI). I think most people prefer the SGS2 just because of the screen and the "faster" processor it has, but I think until the sensation is unlocked and loaded with a stock gingerbread, we can't say.
but personally, I would go for the SGS2 for the screen and the thinness, but I'm on t-mobile and I don't want to drop $700 for a phone.
Thx seems like it just hype , its like comparing a labo and a ferreri. Really don't matter which one you got cause there both good just in different ways.

HD?

Okay. So me and my mother are switching to AT&T soon, from Sprint. The skyrocket is the phone I'm going to go with, however I'm trying to figure out whether I should get the Skyrocket or use an old phone to hold me over until the skyrocket HD comes out? Yeah I know the only difference will be price and of course screen resolution but I don't want to get stuck for 2 years with 800x480 pixels when in a year we'll probably see like 3480x2140. Lol I'm wondering though, will the skyrocket HD have a decent amount of development? All I need is of course cm7/9 and or MIUI. I was also wondering, will it use the same roms and themes as the original Skyrocket since its the same phone just with a higher resolution screen? If that's the case I'm going to just wait for the HD. Which I'll probably do anyways. Just wanted to ask these questions. Thanks guys.

there are these 3 letters that everyone NOT on TMo/Sprint like:
L
T
E
The original poster already said he was conflicted on whether to get the Og or the HD because he didn't want to be left behind with an obsulete version. I say get the HD, my phone having the latest features helped me pick the skyrocket. I knew I would never be happy with a phone knowing LTE was out.

My Skyrocket is better than the SGS2 for AT&T (i777) I had previously: equivalent UI/app speed, much faster data, bigger screen, equivalent battery life.
What was your point?
By the time HD skyrocket hits retail the SGS 3 should be coming out.

Development between the Skyrocket and HD will likely see a huge amount of overlap. Adapting ROMs from one to the other will likely require little more than a recompile. So in that regard, ultimately the two models are good for us, brings more people into the fold.
So don't worry about the HD getting neglected. If that's your concern, wait it out.
You might also want to consider the regular Galaxy S II. All it's missing is LTE, and it's cheaper, available right now, already has ICS, and the Exynos is generally considered to be the more powerful chip (although the difference isn't that huge, they're both very speedy phones).

In Korea or whatever. We never get that stuff until 6 months later.
Even if you get the HD another phone that's better will probably come out. Besides isn't the battery life going to be worse on HD than on the OG rocket?

my advice is to wait for the HD and see how it compares performance, battery wise etc and then make a decision. Not sure the snapdragon or any processor can handle almost 3X more pixels with ease.

It doesn't really work that way. The HD Super AMOLED screen isn't going to use more just because of its resolution. Super AMOLED Plus in our phones demonstrated much lower power consumption, despite a huge increase in subpixel resolution compared to the Super AMOLED panels in the first Galaxy S.
I mean the screen may or may not be a greater power draw. I haven't seen any comparisons. But I wouldn't assume it is just because it's HD resolution.

This is a legit concern. Not that the chip can't handle it; It's at the very least better equipped to do so than the OMAP in the Galaxy Nexus. But there's surely a performance hit to be taken by running at a much higher resolution.
The Galaxy S II LTE WIMAX came out here in Japan recently with the HD resolution. The screen is slightly bigger than the LTE/Skyrocket but the AMOLED technology is the same as the previous Galaxy S II.
The screen is very nice, perhaps a little better than the LG Optimus LTE HD (Nitro) in terms of viewing angle and brightness, however it's not the same as the super AMOLED plus in the LTE/Skyrocket which is quite vivid by comparison.
Text on the WIMAX is very readable, and nicer to read than on the LTE, however some people might find it a little too small. I've always been a 1080p guy, but have found myself straining my eyes on small screens these days. A 10.1" tablet would just about be the minimum size for full HD.
The smaller size resolution and screen on the LTE makes panel transition smoother (the Galaxy S II is smoother still), the HD panels of the WIMAX is hefty work for the same processor also used by the LTE, if speed is your priority then I would recommend waiting for the second generation HD phones to come out with much faster processors.
I had a feeling that the HD panels wouldn't be as bright being a first generation type which was why I went for the LTE, it may probably be the last of the 800x480 type but it will be the best it can be.
Anyway and we are still subjected to regular Android changes that may produce more HD based applications, so who knows where this will be heading. It will benefit tablets more because the higher resolution helps, but not sure on mobile phones.
The only reason I would say wait is if the resolution is that big of a deal to you.
Personally I went from the 4" Atrix with a higher resolution to the 4.5" Skyrocket with a lower resolution, so it bugged the ****ing hell out of me (made me feel like an old person phone with the huge ass buttons). It was fixed with the "LCD Resolution" app; I'm now running at 914 x 548 with the Skyrocket and this phone is everything I've ever wanted.
Like others have said, when the Skyrocket is announced there will be other phones that you will want and will just have to wait even longer.

I have the Galaxy Captivate, the AT&T Galaxy S II, and the Skyrocket.
The captivate served me well. Still is kicking ass with ICS on it.
The AT&T Galaxy S II is nice, fast and a good phone.
But I use the skyrocket because it's JUST as fast as the GS II, it's got LTE and a bigger screen (My screen looks fine, great actually).
I had some battery issues with a rom but flashed again and It's been kicking along just fine. 12 hours later , still got 63% battery left.

Wow thanks for the tip on that app, love my phone even more now! Just wish I could fit more apps on the screen now, they seem so spaced out...lol
Ok nevermind about fitting more apps. Tried out ADW Launcher and it works beautifully. Only pita is having to go back to stock resolution to install some things in the market then setting everything up again...

Potentially Updated Specs

I've noticed a few things pop up in various threads about the current\future specs of the One S, after looking on the HTC site another 'change' has caught my eye, not sure if it's correct though.
The one we all seem to know is that it looks like HTC is also going to release the One S with an overclocked (1.7) S3 CPU.
What I've also noticed is that the screen is now also listed as a 720P HD Amoled screen, no mention of Super Amoled (what I have)
Possibly looks like the S3 version will be shipping with the 720P Amoled Screen, be interesting to find out for sure!
Link please!
Higher res screen and older overclocked chip doesnt sound like a good combination but I guess they're trying to make up for the shortage of s4 chips

With this display and processor combo, I can imagine battery life being absolutely terrible. Kind of a bad deal.
Whoever is in charge of HTC's worldwide site needs to be fired. That info (about the 720p screen) is almost certainly incorrect - note that the text right next to it says 960x540 resolution. Also, if they were changing it we would have heard about it by now (like we did with the S3 version, under the "Ville C2" codename - we even got custom Sensation ROMs based on it).
That said, I think a 720p One S would be awesome - think of the pixel density! As long as I could get it with the S4 though...
