[REF][SCRIPTS] Android Optimization Tips - i9003 (UPDATED 10/19/2011) - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Introduction
I've made a Definite Guide on Android thread for i9000 that focuses on a few optimizations/scripts I've picked up over the months I've spent on XDA. I truly enjoyed sharing my knowledge with the i9000 community and since the tips/guide/scripts can also be applied here (save some exceptions that I would list down below),I would like to share this with the Captivate community too.
Exceptions
Take note that the guide is primarily for i9000 units. There are a few differences I can note here that you should be aware of:
1. The guide points out some kernels/ROMs that are for i9000. Hence the phones you are using may have different ROMs/kernels that may or may not correlate with the one in the guide.
2. The guide also mentions some apps/tweaks that are particularly alien to your unit and you may have never encountered it in your use of your phone or in XDA. Please ignore them for now, I'll make an effort to make the guide compatible in the future (with feedback from you guys of course )
3. Journaling scripts that are attached like the JournalingOn.zip and Acid Tweaks - Removed Useless Stuff and 00remount may not work well with your unit or it may completely brick it. I don't know this, but if you can post your mount partition configuration, I am willing to make the scripts work for you. You only have to type "mount" on your Terminal Emulator and provide the output to me, and I'll provide the rest. Zach's script however, have high compatibility towards a lot of phones, and thus can be used for your unit. Take note that there is a slight risk that it won't work well. If it doesn't, please post your problems here, and I'll try to fix it. Hence, it's best that you make a nandroid backup before attempting to use any tweaks here.
3. I've compiled a guide on a few notable tweaks in XDA here: LINK. If you would like me to evaluate scripts/tweaks/anything that you do not understand due to their terms being alien to you, I'll be glad to explain it here
Guide
You can refer to the guide here:

Thanks...but there are similar compilations already there!

thanks for the detailed review

Thanks for the link
It's a custom kernel based on CF-root. However, what is your intention of posting the link for my attention? Would you like me to explain the tweaks that was included?

The cf-root is included
- acid tweaks
- reviewed 00tweaks file
Sorry,i not read your post clearly..and maybe the tweaks by you is not included..
but ALL our I9003 tweak was already included in cf-root so far..
Just read the post in the link i given..All tweak is there already..

If you can add more tweaks to make i9003 better then it is GREAT!!

I would need to flash the kernel to get the 00tweaks and acidtweaks out. It's cool if all the tweaks are included
I appreciate the efforts of devs out there collating tweaks into their devices. My guide would explain some of the tweaks out there so that you can know what's going on with each line of the tweaks as well as the risks (if any) that are involved in it. Hence, reading it is very well encouraged
I have a request though. Can you attach the init.d scripts included in the kernel? I can't exactly flash the kernel as I don't have the device.
Thanks!

Thanks mate... You have done a great job of explaining those complex tweaks in your guide. Will definitely go through the guide and would like to take your help in understanding them.. Its a great effort and your gesture towards I9003 community appreciated.

As amazing as this reference is, There are still tweaks that we are aware/unaware of that cause issues towards our phone. Like acid and zach's aren't fully compatible with our phone. In a sense they are, but they cause great instability with the system. There hasn't been a stable RAMScript yet since Darky's vs Juwe's tends to screw with the system one way or another.

Yes, hence I would like to know how it reacts to your phone. Zach's tweaks are mostly Linux centric, hence should work well for all phones including CM7.
If it doesn't work or cause instabilities, I would like to troubleshoot the issue for you and make it work

Made some pretty big changes to the guide.
Please refer to it when you have the time!

[CWM][SCRIPTS][TWEAKS] ThunderBolt! v2.3.2 - 12/31/11 [Governor Tweaks Again!]

pikachu01 said:
News
Updated ThunderBolt! to v2.3.2 with governor tweaks and bugfixes.
Introduction
ThunderBolt! is a script package by me, pikachu01 that combines a few notable tweaks shamelessly modified to the max as well as hacks and scripts that I came up on my own(and added tonnes of things over the months of development and testing). Without further delay, please read the rest of the OP
Features
Zach's modified system_tweak (I/O Sched, Readahead, VM, TCP, 3G, BFS/CFS tweaks)
Zach's modified screenstate_scaling script - VM Scaling
Darky's Zipalign script that actually works (modified it a bit to get it actually working. It was broken as is before this.)
Patched libsqlite that disables the need to fsync. Extremely fast database writes.
app_process from Fugutweaks and system_server from Honeycomb 3.2
Quasi-charged! - Only using Supercharger's script but with ThunderBolt!'s own LMK/ADJ/OOM. Supercharger Update9 RC3.2.
zipalign binary
sqlite3 binary
remount script - Included in /sdcard/bolt_scripts/
sqlite_optimize script - Included in /sdcard/bolt_scripts/
Benefits
Better performance, better battery life through Linux kernel tweaks catered for Android OS and flash memory.
Better battery life and performance through usage of screenstate_scaling whereby it switches governors/thresholds/VM depending on your screen state.
Better performance and battery life for database writes as fsync is not utilized anymore.
Better network throughput from TCP tweaks and 3G tweaks
Less RAM usage through zipalign. I found that market apps like Viber and PlantsVsZombies aren't zipaligned. Oh and Swype too. Surprised? Me too.
Reduced /dbdata, /data, /sdcard usage of *.db files and faster database access through defragmentization of sqlite db files (a lot of apps use Database to store data like Swype dictionaries, Game saves etc)
Faster disk access through remount script (noatime, disable barrier etc)
Less lags through Quasi-charger, with mutltasking (e.g. NFS shift + Opera mobile with 5 tabs fully opened and no lags)
Requirements
Android Gingerbread 2.3.x
At least 2MB free on /system (Delete unused ringtones or useless apps like Aldiko/Allshare etc).
Root
Kernel that supports init.d
Ext4 lagfix if you want to use the remount script
Downloads and changelogs are in the:
Original ThunderBolt! thread
Any support for Galaxy S SLC must be placed here rather than the original thread.
A few Galaxy SLC owners kindly asked me to post here so that the goodness of ThunderBolt! is shared to the masses.
Note: Some addons are device specific (labelled with i9000 for example). You can try using it, but it is not guaranteed to work. Something like 3G for i9000 should ring some bells as i9000 supports a lower speed compared to Galaxy SL.

as-is and already tested and confirmed working? or needs to be modified to work on our phone?
after spending some times reading the original thread...
the first post I still can understand how it works.
There are many files attached in the first post, those with "restore" is to revert back to original if you already tweaks it. But none of them is for i9003.
the files "ThunderBolt-CWM v2.3.2.zip" is the main files for thunderbolt tweaks. Flashing instructions already included in the first post.
So, the second post...stuck at half way reading...confuse and confuse...
basically doesn't understand what will each script doing...
Why post a thread like this thats has been copied from the original op.you can just post the link..this could lead the adventurerous mind of sl user as per script is diffrent depending on the phone..copy pasting is a not good manner as the op did a hard job on making it..

Rohan has given all cedits to original developer so no problem in posting thread. I just want to ask that which files we should use or we have to modify as per our phone??? Also what is meaning of addon??? Rohan I think u should describe OP just a little bit.

nice work....actually I'm also making a kernel like this for purumod btw, where is the source?
HERE'S THE INFO
Downloading Sources
1. Download Samsung Source from https://opensource.samsung.com/
2. If you download from https://opensource.samsung.com/ then you will not have the initramfs.
3. To get stock initramfs, you need to extract it from one of the stock kernel(I will explain it later).
have you thought about helping with the kernel 3.0 project?

Not necessary, because those features are only included in the "initramfs" folder...but if he start to add features that are included in the "Kernel", then the source is required.
What about the features he is planning to add? I guess I bunched them together
@ jason
check the post 3 for the sources
am using ecliar sources for the ecliar
actually i incorporated all the changelog of moikop's kernel in my version 1.0
but ecliar is buggy... so i got plenty of errors while compiling
so, i just want to build a base kernel and add the features gradually... this will be the best choice of work with minimal errors
@ stubbirn donkey
check the first post
there u will find features to be added
in my kernel., i will try to add a recovery which will be new and simple
if u hav any ideas ., share here.. i will try to add those features

Those errors suppose to appear while compiling. It seems like it is still much better to build kernels in Froyo...anyways, thanks for the reply, and also, you should add Voodoo Sound v10 in your kernel! here is a clean commit I made : https://github.com/JPurungrit/PuruKernel-G3/commit/c7bf85a4f8d83204c792fb8411407ce07958219f Try it in Eclair! I wonder why this post hasnt gotten more attention than this. Ive been looking for a truly english MIUI port and was willing to settle for GB or CM7 but youve done it in ICS and CM9! and on IPlasm's Phonerty ROM which is my daily ROM right now. WOW! Kudos man. Im currently downloading, I'll test and let you know how it goes. I know you said youre not a dev but if you can succesfully pull of this port, im sure theres a lot more you can do. Id like to encourage you to develop this further. thanks a lot!
Edit: I forgot to mention its MIUI v4!!! lol. I cant wait.

Sorry, this my first rom and have some bugs. You can call to your devices to test when boot success. No one care about this rom and if you like this, i will sent you the last rom i've fixed bug by pm. Can't post link because not enough 10 posts.
i appreciate the quick response. will test soon and let you know. in the mean time, you could add a few screenshots and change the title of the thread to to include more info about the ROM like the base ROM. also, make ur reccomendations for the LK to use and any process you'd reccomend during the flash process in the first post. maybe that'll grab some more attention from passers-by in the forums and pull some of the big names like Munjeni in. I'm quite sure there is a demand for a ROM like this seeing as HD Mini ROMs are in short supply.
Great work again man.

Dstar000, I think I've realized what the problem is: this thread is located in the wrong forum. Its in "HD Mini General" when it should be in "HD Mini Android Development". I'm sure the Admins can help you move it there. Once that happens, this ROM'll get the recognition it deserves.

Thank you, as you see, I'm not enough posts to post on develope forum. Are you test my rom? If possible, can you post some screen shot? Hope you like it.
so, after numerous flashes and reflashes, i think i've got my bootloader sorted out finally and MIUI v4 is running! :good:
So far, I'm loving it. I was having problems with Phonerty (my Play Store wasnt working and i couldnt sync) but its all sorted out and my phoen feels brand new. and then of courese there's the beauty of MIUI, it almost looks like a new screen.
The OS is fast and responsive. I seem to have noticed a graphic bug already though: the gallery seems to spill out of the screen where it says "explore storage card" at the bottom of the screen. I'll post screenshots very soon as well as the results of my testing
Thanks again dstar000, and great work!
Screenshots
Ok, here are the screenshots. I also sent a message to the Moderator of the Android Dev forum on your behalf and I hope he'll move this thread over soon.
Bug Report
1. Capacitive buttons backlight don't work
2. Gallery layout is mixed up
3. Still some Chinese menus deep in the interface
4. Other known issues from Phonerty ROM
Still worth it though!
PS - dstar000, the thread has been moved. Congrats.
dstar000, You're going to have to get your post count up to 10 before you can post in here, but this thread belongs in the dev section, so I had to move it, even if you don't have the post count.

CPU is running on 800mHZ isn't this to much?
How could i lower the cpu mhz?
Again thank you for this rom
Workarounds
To resolve the grahical issues with the Gallery, install Gallery ICS from Play Store and set it as the default image viewer.
To apply themes, create the folder data/system/themes. You will need root access to do this so either use a root level file manager or
Download terminal emulator from the market and write:
su
cd data/system
mkdir theme
(Press "enter" after each command)

Try starting the music player again right after it crashes, if that doesn't work, try a third party music player. If that works, try flashing the ROM again. I noticed I had a lot of FCs after my first flash but less after I reflashed.
To control the CPU, search for a CPU throttle in the Play Store. I personally use CPU Tuner but some may find it too complicated.

I'm not a developer and my Eng is too bad. I followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1499411.
You can feel Miui v4 on hd mini.
Link has been updated. Recommend use LK 27-May munjeni
Rom bug: - all bugs of Phonerty rom.
- graphics bug on gallery.
- can't change themes.
Big thanks to Munjeni, Ipaslm for Cm9 on photon and ELdaArk for test this rom.
I will edit this post soon. Now not have free time, sorry.

Hi, may ask you which miui rom you used for porting to photon... I just want to make one for desire c ? Thanks...
Very nice rom !
However, i managed to encouter some problem.
First, i don't know why, but this rom can't give me access to superuser/root permission.
Then some apps began to be quite buggy, with lots of graphical issue whenever a new window in the prog had to pop up.
And last, i had a "black screen" default (which needed batery removal and all that to reboot), just after i had a received a sms.

I encountered all of those bugs as well. I think its because MIUI handles permissions in a slightly different way from non-MIUI ROMs. I had the black screen twice in one day but havent had it since. I know it happens a lot less or not at all in 2G mode. I think it goes back to Munjeni's Phonerty ROM which is the base for this port. I'll look through that thread to see if there are any solutions.

Not (Munjeni's Phonerty ROM!).. "it's two difficult ROMs"
Munjeni's ROM name for htc mini is simply CM9 4.0.4 htc mini. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625638
but Phonerty is mine (iPlasm), I name it that [Photon+Liberty=?] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756672
simply different we can say Phonerty is a Liberty ROM (a copy of htc aria) with munjeni's drives.
but munjeni's ROM like a native htc mini (Photon), but it's also taken on Liberty for Android.

[GAPPS][2012-10-18] Lightweight version of Google Apps for Jelly Bean

As we all know, a lot a people has been talking about the size race regarding the combination of an Android 4.1+ and Google Apps packages.
My attempt on this is to provide an up-to-date, lightweight package for original Google Apps, being a standard for our community, so all the Jelly Bean based roms can link to this thread.
NOTE FOR DEVELOPERS / PUBLISHERS
If you intend to mention this package in your ROM post, please do it as a link to this thread, for the sake of the information provided here and community dynamics.
[size=+1]Download[/size]
[highlight]Please DO NOT create mirrors for the link below. If you have problems downloading, report it through a post and someone may try to help.[/highlight]
Code:
http://www.mediafire.com/?9llkj6399epw5kz
[size=+1]Changelog[/size]
I may not provide changelogs, since all I am doing is re-packaging an already existent package, which changes are described at RootzWiki: http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps#20121011.
Anything about my own process on this will be listed below, at "Important Notes".
[size=+1]Important notes[/size]
Applications and libraries related to hardware we don't have or can't handle [yet?], such as voice input and front camera, were removed.
I DID NOT touch any of the internal files; they remain original and completely tested.
[size=+1]Bugs[/size]
Since all the contents of the package are original files from Google, I do not expect them to fail. If so, it's not up to me.
But I do expect problems regarding the packaging, although I have experienced none so far. Please report any problems you find with useful information. I will just ignore/report posts like "it doesn't work" or any generic message like this.
Changelog? Apps removed?

I did not provide a packaging changelog and I don't think it'd ever be useful, since changes are described at RootzWiki: http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps#20121011.
I will insert this link on the original post, thanks.
About the removed apps, it's just like I said in the first note in "Important Notes". If a lot of people ask me to list the exact files I did not include in my package, I will think about doing it or just suggest the user do run a diff on both packages' zipinfo. Since this is a development thread, users interacting here might be comfortable with such easy operation.
Doesn't belong to original development... more like themes and apps or a "lightweight gapps for ICS/JB" sticky (if a mod wants)

Are you sure it doesn't belong to original development?
Anyway, I may be ending this project, since I'll have a huge lack of time and Rashed is also working on a lightweight version of gapps (which was updated today). This thread will be closed, if so.

I don't think that you're the one to say that. Since this is his own work it should be here like the other original things. To the developer: please continue your work because you're doing a damn good job an please don't take comments like him serious.

"Don't take a ~3000 post user serious, but take a ~150 dead serious." (lol I'm like 15 posts so obviously you can ignore me hahaha)
I think this isn't developing, so it belongs to Apps, however that doesn't mean this thread is irrelevant or bad (actually I think stripping gapps to only the needed ones is a great idea)
If I was to flash JB GAPPS, these will be. Thanks!

Thank you very much for belittling my work with your high knowledge and skills, but no, I don't need such participation.
If you don't think my work is useful/valuable enough, please just do not express yourself. Other threads may need your help, instead.
I will not go into an unnecessary discussion and this is my last speech about this. I will ignore future posts not related to the thread focus or just ask a mod to close this.
Thanks for understanding.

[AROMA][USER-CHOICE]OTX - Bloatware Remover

After a lot of struggle, here I present you my project (codename: OTX) that helps the user to remove the apps easily using aroma!!
I found that there are some limitations in the aroma installer which made it difficult for me!
First of all, I know you would say that this script has been already made and you will try to report it to moderators that I am repeating but no one has made an aroma flashable installer in any of the xda thread and nothing has been made like this for any of the devices. Even though it is present, it is not user choosable. It just deletes blocks of applications and can sometimes be even without your notice.
Changelogs:
Added aroma
Added busybox
User choice on removing apps
Overcame aroma scripts limitation
Only deletable apps are shown to maintain stability
Download Links:
OTX: http://www.mediafire.com/download/799ix1k85ay9lb9/signed_OTX_BLOAT.zip
CWM: http://d-h.st/nLL
Report me if the links are dead!!
Installation Instructions:
Make sure your device is rooted and binaries are up to date.
Download signed_OTX_BLOAT.zip and ClockWorkMod provided.
Copy it in the root of the sd card.
Now reboot and access recovery mode.
Now flash ClockWorkMod and mount everything.
Now select "install zip from sd card" and click signed_OTX_BLOAT.zip and install it.
You are asked to select the files to be deleted in 11 checkbox selectable pages because of the limitation of aroma script.
If you don't want to delete anything in a particular page, just click next and proceed.
After uninstalling, reboot your device.
I have tested it in my device and I am proud to say that it works as per my expectations. Its stable but currently need testers for this tool.
Tested on:
Baseband Version: DDLK1
Kernel: Hells Fusion
This is my first project. So kindly test it and report the bugsconfused: if any) !!
This is the base version. New addons will be made soon!
[Q] In what way it is different from old script??
[A] The user have to modify the lines of the script so as to remove the apps that he/she don't like and it takes too much time to type one by one. But if you use my script, it will be a lot easier and saves time.
Note for developers: You can port this to any device but make sure you include my credits :good:

Yeah! I agree with you sir!
I think this as a small project but literally, it consumed a lot of time on analysing what must be done to remove limitations on aroma!
So only not added poll! Will add it now!
And thanks for reviewing!
